Do you monitor your employee PC activities?

We don't monitor anything here. But the reason for that is we are a start-up company full of Engineers and like-minded people with best practices in mind.
Other companies though we would use a combination of live monitoring (VNC) and we would keep track of user browsing history with various free utilities.
Really though, if you have your securities and things configured properly network side, you really don't have to worry about monitoring.  Restrict what you don't want people using/surfing and then you don't need to really worry about actively monitoring individual end users so much as just making sure your configuration is still good from time to time.

This was spurred from another discussion concerning monitoring software (http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1042244-employee-monitoring-software) which dovetailed into monitoring employees and how you do it.
I'm of the camp that sometimes you need a break beyond the standard lunch to refocus on a project or your workload, and that taking to social media, reading blogs, checking personal e-mail can be a way to do that. I mean, people take smoke breaks or grab coffee, why can't I check Reddit?
How do you feel about this? Do you monitor your employees online activities? Are your more lax or more strict when it comes to those behaviors?

  • How do you monitor your systems?

I'd like to be able to monitor my Ironport systems to be able to see
    * SMTP up/down on each interface
    * active recipient queue size
    * CPU/RAM/Disk use (as a %)
    * number of connections in last 5 minutes
    * ...In fact some of the data from the system status and system overview screens in the GUI.
But I don't want to manually log in to the GUI/CLI to manually check this.
I was hoping the SNMP interface would expose these counters then I can easily bolt the Ironports into my existing monitor system, set some thresholds and get alerted when something might be wrong.
Do you have automatic monitoring of the systems?
How have you set it up?
Right now all I have in place is checking via ping and that the SMTP port is open on the exposed interfaces. No monitoring of the system counters.

Corey, are your company using Hypersoft for mail tracking and reporting for the complete mailflow from IronPort-Internal Mail system-users mailboxes? We are using HyperSoft Omni Analyser for internal mailtracking and reporting (our e-mail system is based on Lotus Domino).
It would be great to have a solution that covers the complete mailflow. I have had a lot of phonecalls the last week with our salesrep from HyperSoft to find out what HyperSoft can offer. The salesrep seems to have a tight connection with HyperSoft development here in Europe and the IronPort add-on to their existing reporting sw is still under development and they need input for what functions and features we customers need. The MFC mail tracking is great, the reports are ok but IronPort has no soulution for monitoring system status.
I told Hypersoft that it would be nice to have a one tool for mail tracking, reporting and system status monitoring. I have sent HyperSoft mail logs from our IronPort for mail tracking and reporting and the demo reports look promising. In order to get systems status HyperSoft could either use the status logs for historical reports or use the XML pages provided (like ironportip/xml/status) or both.
Are there other interfaces IronPort provides in order to get system status, except for snmp? I look forward to feedback/ideas
    Thanks /Micke

  • How do you get your tv to act as a monitor using apple tv?

Can you get your television to act as a monitor using Apple TV?

I presume you mean you want to view your computer screen on your TV by going through the Apple TV. Right now you can't do that but the next version of Mac OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, will allow Mac computers to mirror their computer screen on a TV connected to Apple TV.

  • The Correct Space Between You And Your Monitors

Something that always crossed my mind was the space between your monitors and where you are seated. How far exactly are you supposed to be positioned from your speakers in order to read and hear correctly. Most producers would comment that people produce in all types of environments, headphone close rang monitors, far range monitors. But what exactly is the ideal space between you and your speakers? To look into this issued even more closely each speaker is designed differently, there for you cannot look at them all equal as far as performance is concerned.
How far are you away from your speakers?

dude it depends what you want
I got mine at about 1-meter to 1.5-meters at my home studio
at the big studio i've got two pairs of monitors in there and they both 1.5 meters
other people will go as far as 3-meters, in your case get abit closer as you said before that your room is not acoustically treated there for sitting too far away will give you a mix of 50% of the speakers and 50% of the room
but you need 80% of the speakers and 20% of the room
ps: don't just leave this topic alone and start another one, because its annoying when people don't if you've been help or not and they keep trying to help you
and people also don't know if you are reading your post or your just using it as an amusement forum just for fun on your lunch breaks
so please reply back and let people know if they've helped

  • Who do the majority of you use to monitor your 3 credit scores? I am talking about a real FICO score

I am so confused about all of the monitoring services out there, I feel like all of it is a scam. Experian uses a different score than anyone else, Equifax and Transunion use a different scoring system. i was going to go with MYfico howvever online reviews of this company being hard to cancel , locking you into a nonrefundale contract etc; I have no idea who is a legit monitoring service or not. I actually called MyFico and the rep said there were never any specials and that the price is a solid $29.99 per month on a CC. Who do you guys use to monitor your credit and why? Thanks

I'm currently using myFICO and creditchecktotal, but will probably be dropping my subscription to myFICO and just buying reports here periodically. MyFico has the advantage of providing a wide range of different scores(the specialty ones for mortgage, auto, etc...) *when you pull a full report*(they're not updated when changes are detected) as well as just your general FICO 8 score(which is updated when changes are detected). Also their monitoring/alerts covers all 3 bureaus where CCT's monitoring/alerts only covers Experian(although you can pull the other two a few times a month at no extra cost, it just isn't going to check them automatically and send alerts for them). CCT has the advantage of a cleaner interface and cleaner report printouts(IMO they're cleaner and look much nicer, but I'm sure someone out there might prefer myFico's). They're also half the cost if you use the previous mentioned suggestion of signing up for the trial and then use the automated system to cancel and take them up on the offer it will give you.

  • Is this really the response that you want your customer support to give.

Sorry for the lenght of the original email but I had quite a few issues that have happen. I just wanted a second source saying that this canned response is the actual response that Best Buy wants to stand behind before I either go up the ladder to make sure that the upper management are wanting to let go of business for what I consider not that hard of a fix on Best Buy's side. So far no one that I've talked to or chatted with or have received an email from seems to have actually listened/read what the problems I've had are. The best I've received so far appears to be a quick glance and canned response. I feel this response was in poor taste considering the issue that I described about the website itself and the issue I was trying to deal with in looking at product on the website.
There wasn't even a mention that John, the employee that actually tried to help would get any kind of attention for doing his job in an environment of no one else wanting to do theirs. The way all of this is coming off to me is that this is how Best Buy actually wants to do business. Is this the case?

    Original Message Follows: ------------------------
On April 24, 2015 between the hours of 6:00 - 7:30 PM my wife and I went into your store located at 6455 N Decatur Blvd
Las Vegas, NV 89131 store number 1421. This was the absolute worst customer experience I have received in quite a long time. I am an elite plus member and spend thousands of dollars at best buy every year.
Upon entering this store we noticed that the displays looked even smaller than they have over recent months. We went in looking for two simple items. One was a HDTV antenna and the other a 3d blu ray movie that was a new release. I asked one associate if they had the items in the store and he looked up the movie for me and said that they had four copies of it and pointed me in the direction of where it should reside. He also told me to ask about the antenna at the appropriate department.
Upon, going to the area where the movies are kept we became confused, and disappointed as the rhyme and reason behind the sorting of new releases of blu ray, 3d, dvd, tv, etc all seem to make no sense. The store used to have all new releases in one big area where you would find it if it was released fairly new on whatever format it was sold in the new release section. Not any longer. Now the areas are small and the top tabs have things like favorite 3d releases/TV shows right now/Dvd's on sale all next to each other that make no sense. Why are the sections so small and why are they so convoluted? I couldn't find what I was looking for and since it was a new release and could find the blu ray version and the dvd version I was surely just missing it. Apparently I wasn't the only one.
We went looking for someone to assist us. There was no one to be found in that department. So we wandered around the store for a while looking for help and looking at product. We made it from the far back corner of the store all the way to the registers in the front of the store without coming across a single person who worked as an associate. We came across the direct TV rep, and a solar panel rep who were more than willing to sell everyone that walked by their products, which doesn't look well since they are doing their job but making it more obvious that the actual store is lacking in the customer service department.
After we made it all the way back to the front of the store I asked the same associate who couldn't quite help me all the way to speak to the store manager. We didn't get to the store manager because he was off, which is fine. We did however get to talk to an assistant who's name is John. He tried everything he could to help. He was on top of his game and had excellent customer service skills. It wasn't enough however as his computer said they had the 3d blu ray I was looking for in stock, four of them, and after leaving us in the area where we could talk to the associate who specialized in the area about HD antennas he looked for about twenty minutes and couldn't find the product either. During this twenty minutes the associate that was supposed to help us was wondering around the store I guess helping another customer, at least I'm hoping as she didn't state that was what she was doing but just kept saying that she would be with us in a minute. During this time my wife and I had talked to two more customers who were in the same boat as us. A lovely woman who was prepared to buy a TV and Blu Ray player on the spot and just couldn't decide which model of player would work for her. She was waiting even longer than my wife and I.
Upon John's return I had to ask him what was going on in the store, and he couldn't give an answer. I understand that employees cannot talk about the store policies and the politics and staffing and such but I wanted to make sure that he knew that my experience was that there wasn't that many customers in the store and that there didn't in my opinion seem to be a huge lack of employees at that moment. John tried to make up my experience by offering me the product I was looking for in a different format and that they would order it in the format that I was looking for and letting me exchange it at no cost because of the hassle I went through. This is exactly what I would have expected and he did a great job. Absolutely everything and everyone else in that store fell short of every expectation.  I did not take him up on his offer but thanked him for doing a great job.
Upon coming home and trying to send this email through the website. On a few different occasions I was met with an error that my message did not get through. That was the extent of the message and there was no support given on what to do next nor was there any information on where to send an email. It did give the toll free best buy number but not what numbers to choose to get to the correct department.
Then on Friday May 8th, I was looking to purchase a monitor larger than 70" and proceeded to look on bestbuy.com for said monitors. When looking to see what my closest store had in stock I decided it would be easier to call the store to find out what they did have in store rather than clicking each individual monitor and checking if it was available in my chosen store. The first store I called was 1044 and I was helped in a timely manner. They said they carried only one monitor that was 70" or above in store. Then I called store 358 twice. The first time I called the phone rang for about a minute and then I was placed on store hold without a greeting or a can you please hold. I just heard the sound of someone picking up the phone and then store music. I was then on hold for over ten minutes before I decided to call back. When I called back this time the phone just rang until it went busy. I then decided to call store 542 where I was greeted within thirty seconds. I asked them what they had in stock and was transferred. The person I was transferred to did not give me their name I asked them what they had over 70" and they weren't sure there was just silence for a lot longer than there should have been so I asked if there was an easier way to find out what was available on the best buy website in store. She explained that I could click the product and see if it was available at the certain store and I explained that I wanted to be able to look at several products at once like all the monitors that were over 70" and see if they were available in my closest stores. She kept explaining it to me in the way I was already doing it and I kept trying to explain that I already did that and was looking to try to do more than one product at a time. She then told me that she didn't have time for this and that I should just go to amazon or something.
So based off of my last in store experience. The lack of any help I can find on your website for situations like this and because of the utter disrespect shown to me over the phone I not only purchased my monitor through amazon.com based on her suggestions but I will not be doing any business with best buy either in store or online again. Not only have you lost the thousands that I spend there on a yearly basis but you are also now out the thousands of dollars that I spend there on a yearly basis for my company.
Except for John in store and the phone experience with 1044 I am beside myself in the complete downhill slope that best buy has taken.

    Hello marikcraven,
Welcome to the forum and thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us, not only surrounding your store and online experience, but your feedback regarding the response you received. It certainly seems that we’ve let you down on multiple levels.
It is discouraging to hear that you, your wife, and John were unable to locate the 3D Blu-ray movie you desired, although our system indicated we had a few available. While I’m delighted to hear you were satisfied with John’s effort, it is disheartening to hear the rest of the staff left you so underwhelmed, and ultimately it doesn’t sound like you left with your antenna either. I am truly sorry for any frustration or dismay this visit may have caused. I’m glad that you ensured you brought up your concerns surrounding the lack of assistance with John.
In regards to your experience with BestBuy.com, it is strange that you encountered trouble when sending your message. Although, it seems that you were finally able to send the message, I am sorry for any frustration it may have caused you. I’m sure your frustration only heightened once you spent the time dealing with the error only to receive a response you found unsatisfactory.
As far as searching for inventory on BestBuy.com, sadly there isn’t a method to look at inventory for an individual store unless you are checking out the store’s clearance or open-box items. This would mean you would have to go through each item and check out it’s availability in your area. Typically this is a much more satisfying experience if you are able to narrow your search down to a few that you are truly interested in. With that said, I understand that this may not always be the best method. I apologize if you found this to be more of a hassle than you anticipated when you began your search for a 70” monitor, and if you had trouble contacting the individual stores regarding your inventory inquiries.
In the end, it’s clear we failed to delight you in store, online, and with our ability to address your concerns, and this resulted in you making a purchase elsewhere. I am terribly sorry that this has been your experience, as it is not indicative of the experience we strive to provide our customers. I truly hope that in the future you will feel confident enough to give us a chance to provide you with a better experience than the one you’ve described.
If you should have any questions, please let us know!
    Respectfully,

  • I have been really messed up and defrauded by your employee. I have the email proof through this site, besides witness's.

I have a record of my email and post regarding my problems with Internet Explorer 11, with my Windows 7, not working and connecting to other sites not nearly working as well as Int. Explorer 10. I was just told by support since I didn't have a case number,
I had no proof. My email account in Microsoft is the same as with Verizon. So, I have proof on this site. Now, after I posted my complaint reg. Int. 11 not working nearly as well with my Windows 7. An employee from Microsoft took control of my computer for
the 2nd time without notice. I was SO VERY clear about wanting to go back from Int.Ex. 11 to Int.Ex.10. An employee actually restored by computer without me asking from 10 back to 11, after I had some issues with hackers. As stated in my emails to you, Int.
Exp. 11 never seemed to be very compatible in working with the add-ons and communicating to other sites. The guy who took over my laptop without permission, I thought was helping, ignored everything I asked for. I worked through the night and for about 10
hours with him. I had to make 16 backup/restore disks, per him doing all the actions through Homegroup. I didn't even know u could take over my computer controls without permission. He made changes after changes, while I mostly kept my hands off the keys throughout
the night and the day yest. I was just putting in disk after disk when it would pop out and he had the notice keep popping up, when he wanted me to change disks. I have not slept or ate for two days, cuz I kept working through hardcore stress. I didn't even
follow what changes he was making cuz it was going to fast with things popping up everywhere. I would just have to ender Adminstrator ID and enter a few items. I did not make an alteration, cuz I did not want to mess it up. He completely ignored my email/post
about consistently wanting to go from Int. Exp. 11 back to 10. I was so ill and tired, that I could barely keep up. After working with him, by just inserting disks mostly, I sent an email at the end to Microsoft saying that I don't think his repairs would
work. This due to many issues, but mainly still not getting the add-ons for my different drivers. I had Google Chrome, Bing and the Int. Exp. 11 I wanted reversed, cuz he still could not get all the add-ons to work, with red checks over them and saying disabled,
as long with other issues. I just kept having to put in my Adminstrator  passwords and he used my guest access as well, which I never use. I was so frustrated. NOT NEARLY AS UPSET AS A FEW-FIVE HOURS AGO, when I found it was worse than ever and the main
thing I complained about and asked for, Int. 11 going back to 10, did not happen at all. There was just Int. Exp. 11 and he even took off my Google Chrome. I had no idea that my computer could also look different with different users. Icons being larger and
in different places. It upset me horribly because I am ill cuz the stress I have been under and have not even ate since this began. I have proof via emails and also spent 10 hours following his lead. I had no idea, when I turned my laptop back on, it was NOT
ONLY NOT WORKING CORRECTLY, BUT HE KEPT Int. Exp. 11 and never made the change. There were so many pages up, I could not see what he was doing. It took me 16 disks to just copy all the stuff in the drive. I also used tried to use the small cards, when the
disks went way too fast. Now, my laptop is worse than even, with things saved all over my files, where I have no idea of what is what. He typed in the names to these backup files and I was too sick to keep up at all. I was so exhausted and sick at the end,
I was just glad he was done. Like I said, I sent an email while he was still working on the issues, to you saying that it does not look good at all and would probably not work. He closed the approx. 20 windows that were open quickly, when the last disk backed
up all the changes. I was feeling so horrible, I  had to just shut the laptop off and pray. Then, after resting for hours, I turn it on to find NO Int. Exp. 10 and still Int. Exp. 10. Many of the add-ons issues and a bunch of other things were worse than
even. I called in for help, he was pretty rude, cuz I was/am exhausted, sick & upset. My laptop is arranged differently and also does not function correctly. I could have just uninstalled 11 and installed 10, like I asked about in my email. My files even
said Int. Exp. 11 going to Int. Exp. 10. He ignored me and also left my computer way worse in other ways, with software uninstalled and items rearranged.  The guy who I spoke to a little while ago said I had no proof I even worked with him. Not only do
I have records of what was sent, I had people swing by and they saw what was going on. I was complaining to them how exhausted/sick I felt for being up so long w/o food, while feeling helpless. The guy I just spoke with gave me case #1278021415. My email sent
you guys while he still controlled my computer is through Microsoft. So, I am certainly not some crazy guy. I actually have been able to fix issues by hackers, etc., worse than this before. Now, my computer is way jacked, I need to work in a bit, and am so
sick over this. Plus, I will probably have to hire someone to reverse all this horrible damage done. I cant believe even the computer looked different under my Admin. name & guest name. So many issues that I did not have and he did not even listen to what
I wanted to change. I could have swithed 11 to 10, but I wanted to know the effect it would have on Windows 7 and docs, if any? I believe he worked on it so long, cuz he felt bad for going into my laptop the day before, without any notice, and restoring my
computer back from Int. Exp. 10 back to 11. He was trying to help, but I did not even ask for any at that time. Now, my computer is jacked, I don't really trust all the backups disk/files, cuz so many. I could tell he knew what was saved where though. He did
it all. I just was assisting, watching and trying to keep up with copying the info and putting in disks. Now, I am stuck with a messed up laptop and your tech wanted money from me, after your guy messed up my laptop bad, crazy things changed in 2 different
settings/names and I have been not able to eat or sleep now for two days cuz of this. Then, your guy questioned if I was telling the truth. I have lots of property and am successful. I just didn't feel I should pay a company for unauthorizingly changing and
breaking my stuff, while making me stressed and ill. I have 2-3 techs that handle issues, if I don't feel like dealing with them, but I actually know what to do on computers pretty well when not sick and rushed. I am no tech, but certainly no idiot. Its not
hard to see things were not going well with red warnings all over the place and saying add-ons were disabled with big red marks over them. I am sure your tech knew, that is why he closed it so fast. Why did he not even try to change what I asked in my email??
He completely ignored me and now I am ill and have a laptop way worse. Suppose to do some work in a bit, but I am so exhausted, hungry and back issues from all this typing leaning over (had X-rays a few weeks ago). I don't know what to do at this point off
exhaustion and also being questioned if I was making it up or something. I have witnesses and the email. My headed on email that I sent through Microsoft is I want to go from Int. Exp. 11 to Int. Expl. 10, cuz the add-ons don't work as well and I get booted
way more easily, or cant even reach other sites. I know it can be restored again, but it had issues before that I spend time and money fixing. I feel take advantage off and now blackmailed cuz your employee insisted that I pay for him just looking at the mess,
your other employee created. Just makes me more sick. I could trust Int. Exp. 11 to work and now I feel no trust and much deception by your company. I will probably be sick for days and I know my back is out again and I am cramping cuz no food and ALL stress.
I had an employee over watching me deal with all this happening, not friends, etc..  I saw he was using Homegroup and took down a few things. I knew it wasn't going well, but was in no shape to argue. Are you guys doing to do anything about this, or put
the blame on me for trusting your employees. I just asked a couple questions and complained. I never said anything about hacking into my computer and messing my life up. This just is not right at all. A laptop is a pretty cheap fix for me, but I did just pay
a guy over $200 to get things working well again cuz of hackers utilizing all the negative aspects about going onto some sites. I cant believe this happened. I cant believe this came from a large company, which I thought I could trust. Again, I have the email
I sent while he was stick backing up the changes. It took hours, literally for all those darn disks. What will you guys do about this, cuz I am too sick to do anything for a bit. I was in the hospital just a couple weeks ago, cuz of stress and issues of this
sort. Its so wrong!!  I want to give my info on here, but I am sure you will have it. The guy even said I didn't need to put my email address, I believe, or was it name, but I put it on my email sent anyway. I never lie!!  I look forward to your
response, C. York   Also, the email address I use is for Verizon and I would prefer if u just sent it there or both places. I don't even want to look at this thing for a while, but my anxiety over this will probably force me to. I wish I could put
in a phone number. Maybe I can somewhere, cuz I would like to know what you are thinking about all this. I know I got wronged, but I wish I knew who exactly. Like in my 2 email, while he was working, I saw "Hagan", I believe in response to a first
post. I responded and asked question after reading it. I noticed when I went to post in public a bit ago, that I had never done that before. Just sent email direct, especially the 2nd, in which I have confirmation from your company. Again, last guy gave me
case #1278021415. I thought I could trust your employee, so I did not get a bunch of info from him. I hope u know who was working on it, since he was when I emailed you. If you don't get my info somehow, please email me here, so we can communicate. I might
post this a few places or keep it to post. I am so upset and shocked. Thank you!  C. York

What I wound up doing was installing the newest of the newest versions of firefox (it's at 5.0 or something now, I think). That just made all the plugins, add-ons, and extensions I wanted to get rid of obsolete and it auto-removed them on its own.
I do really appreciate you taking the time out to try and offer some solutions though. Thank you very much for your effort!

    Things i had to set manually;
    1) Keyboard layout, because it defaults to US
    2) Two mouse keys don't work had to manually set, Emulate3Buttons defaults on (wanted it off)
    3) "VideoOverlay" is off by default (or is not auto detected)
    3) needed to set DPI to 96
    4) needed to set color to 24 (defaulted to 8?)
apart from that, the auto detection is vastly improving IMO.
The main premise behind this, is to debate the auto detection capabilities of hardware by xorg.

Man, all I run is dwm, but i'm still so afraid to edit anything here. Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can prune this baby?
By the way this is a laptop with an ATI card.

  • Can you convert your desktop site plan into the phone & tablet version w/o re-creating the pages?

Can you convert your desktop site plan into the phone & tablet version without re-creating the landing pages? This seems too extensive to have to re-design each page?

    Cwsnell,
On your nav bar there is a shorcut to other pages.
The most effecient way I have found to do this from the phone layout,
click on the page icon shown above
type in the name of the page (and select the desktop version as indicated by the icon of the monitor)
select all on that page (CTRL A / Command A) and copy (CTRL C / Command C)
revert back to the phone layout page and paste (CTRL V / Command V)
then resize, delete what you dont need, make any other edits and your done!
There is not a way to copy a page entirely over.  The mobile version should have less information and less imagery to enable fast load times.

  • How do you monitor backup progress

How can you monitor the progress of a backup? I use timemachine and an external drive  to do my backups on my 09 Macbook pro. I want to be able to see the amount of files transferred and time remaining or any other pertinent info. Not just a spinning wheel.

I don't know, I use bootable clones myself and it shows me the progress of the backup and updating of files.
However I can point you to this guy who is the local TM guru
    All about Time Machine
If you want to learn more about all sorts of backups to diversify your restore options (TM can fail to restore properly), including bootable clones etc. then read my UT here on the subject.
Most commonly used backup methods explained
I personally don't use TimeMachine, preferring the more advanced bootable clone options.

  • How do "you" monitor event logs in SCOM 2012? Need opinions.

Fairly new to SCOM. Do you monitor all event logs? Just warnings and critical? How do you filter out things you don't want to see?
Looking for opinions here not just a "how-to".
    Thanks,

Steps in creating a Event based Alerting Rule.
    1. Open the Operations Manager Console.
    2. Go to Authoring.
    3. Under Authoring - Management Pack Objects - Select Rules
    4. Right click on Rules and select - Create a new rule
    5. Select Alert Generating Rules - Event Based - NT Event Log (Alert)
    6. On the same screen select your destination management pack and click Next
    7. Give a name to your Rule and optionally give it a Description.
    8. Rule Category can be anything you like.
    9. Select the Rule Target as the class of your choice, normally it can be Windows Computer.
    10. Make sure the Rule is Enabled and select Next.
    11. Select the Event log name from where event will be monitored and click Next.  (for example Application or System
    or Security)
    12. Build the Expression to filter the events with the below details:
         a. Parameter Name = Event ID, Operator = Equals and Value = (any event id of your choice)
         b. Parameter Name = Event Source, Operator = Equals and Value = (any source of your choice) (you
may delete this filter if you want)
         c. Click on Insert button at Top and it will put the cursor at Parameter Name, click square button
with 3 dots [...] and it will popup another screen.
         d. In that box, select the 3rd radio button named 'Use parameter name not specified above' and there
manually type 'EventDescription' (without quotes) and click OK.
         e. Then come back to filter screen, now here you will see Parameter Name = EventDescription, and
for Operator select Contains and then for Value you can type any word you want to key on from the Event description.
    13. After building the desired Expression, click Next.
    14. Configure Alerts as you like and click the Create button.
To get the Alerting event details. Go to Start menu and in Run window type eventvwr.
And put the details on the wizard as per the below screenshot.

  • Monitor my kid's activities on the internet

I need to download a program that can help me monitor my kid's activities on the internet, is there a safe way to do it? I have a Mac mini with the latest os

Google "keystroke logger Mac OS X". You'll see several options, I didn't see any right away that were completely free, but some have a trial or limited free version.
    I found:
    http://download.cnet.com/Elite-Keylogger/3000-2162_4-75974769.html
    http://download.cnet.com/Perfect-Keylogger-Lite/3000-2092_4-75813111.html
    http://download.cnet.com/Refog-Mac-Keylogger/3000-2162_4-75543697.html
    and
    http://foliovision.com/2010/01/keyloggers-mac-os-x
has some recommendations that are probably better than mine.
Oh, and if you're kids are like mine on Facebook, get ready for some MASSIVE logs of their activity. If only they'd put that kind of effort into homework.

  • Who got this brilliant idea when you want to pick up a contact to first cross the group and then click end ? Did you hire an employee  from Microsoft ? Apple MUST remain SIMPLE to use !!!

Who got this brilliant idea and change thing that way :  when you want to pick up a contact on your iphone, you first have to cross the group and then click end ? Did you hire an employee from Microsoft ? Apple MUST remain SIMPLE to use !!!

Claudius, either you didn't read my post, or you jumped to conclusions. I had a skype account that was created using a microsoft account (NOT THE ACCOUNT I AM USING NOW). PURE MICROSOFT ACCOUNT NO OTHER ACCOUNT LINKING.I had to change the primary mail of that account.I was told "no can do" by skype support.I found that if I went to account settings and clicked on the link on the line below the one that said "MICROSOFT etc" (labeled something along the lines of "TV or Device") I got the opportunity to set the password of the "live:username" account (WHICH YOU COINCIDENTALLY HAVE TO DO IF YOU WANT TO USE SMART TVs ETC).Once that was done, I COULD SUCCESSFULLY DO WHAT SKYPE SUPPORT SAID WAS IMPOSSIBLE- I could change the primary mail address. once that was done, and NOT BEFORE, I linked the account to a facebook account as well, just to be sure I have more than one way to access the skype account. What caused you to get the impression that I was writing something else? furthermore this sentence - "The solution you described in your initial message isn't actually once since all the time you were operating on different account that weren't actually linked" does not make sense, I think you mis-edited it.and I need to point out that you are incorrect. I WAS NOT OPERATING ON DIFFERENT ACCOUNTS I WAS OPERATING ON ONE SKYPE ACCOUNT, THAT WAS CREATED USING A MICROSOFT ACCOUNT just like you say you recommend. I still don't know how you can misread my initial entry like that.  If you have a better solution to my initial problem - changing the primary mail of a skype account created throuth either a microsoft account or a facebook account, Please write a sticky to explain how to do it, and please inform skype support that Yes it can be done, and this is the way it is done. So far my "lucky shot" seems to be the only way to do it.

  • How you handle your signatures

What are you doing with your signatures which fire and are false positives? Are you using event action filters or are you disabling the signature? In some cases I see where disabling that signature would be fine. Like if you have a DNS box which is patched and not susceptible to a exploit being noticed by IPS - Since your system is patched and no other boxes are susceptible to the exploit then it seems only logical to disable the signature, yes? But event action filters come into place for signatures like sig-3030 which, in most cases, should only fire when the source is from outside your network. Just want to make sure Im on the right track. Anyone know of a good site which discusses IPS best practice, administration and policy?
Also how many of ya'll monitor your internal network?
    Thanks

When I'm troubleshooting a new alert I usually enable 'log pair packets' so I can put more context around the alert itself. Although they get correlated in MARS I use CSM to tune the sensors and signatures. I'll cross-launch to IDM to pull down the packet captures, saving them with somewhat descriptive names in case I need to revisit them later. I also use a great netflow reporting engine (mazu networks) to see where else the suspect PC has been going, and then use online tools like dnsstuff.com, spamhaus DROP lists, Dshield, to see if the IP address is on any block lists. This tool (as well as Arbor Networks, Lancope, etc) also do their own non-signature-based network behavior analysis, and sometimes (not always) something with correlate here too.
After I get enough information I try to tune the actions on the sensor itself. Sometimes you have to fall back on a MARS drop rule, just to screen out false positives or handle special cases, but I think its better to keep the alert from occuring in the first place. Having too many filters gets ugly fast.
You should also be leveraging Cisco's Intellishield service ; each IPS sig subscription gives you (free) access to detailed information on the IPS sigs and the vulnerabilities that prompted the sig in the first place. Great service. I've been able to disable a bunch of sigs using this alone.
    Good luck.
