Document Encryption

My company need to encrypt all the files on the server. This is due to client (government) requirements that we have to meet, as we hold personal data.
I've looked at software like PGP Desktop and TrueCrypt, but they don't seem to offer much for network users. Has anyone dealt with this issue in the past, and if so, what did you do?
Many thanks.

Hi, You as the Administrator cannot Password yourself - if you Right Click on a Folder/Icon then go to Get Info on the lower section you can decide who has permissions..
If your documents are really CONFIDENTIAL! I would put them onto a flashdrive (can be purchase with a secure login) www.ironkey.com ~~ Or you can use iDisk, password protected..L

  • Java SSF for Digital Signatures and Document Encryption

    Hello,
    I have read in "SAP Help - Java Development Manual" that there is a Java SSF library for Digital Signatures and Document Encryption API.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/4f/65c3b32107964996a56e4165077e24/frameset.htm
    I am trying to develop an example application in NWDS using Interfaces/classes (ISsfData, SsfDataXml...), but NWDS does not find this classes in any library.
    I have searched for Javadocs in NWDS plugins directory and this classes and interfaces should be in JAR com.sap.security.api.jar, but they aren't there.
    Our WAS version is: NW04s WAS 7.0 SP11 and he have downloaded Java Crypto Library (IAIK) and also SAP XML Toolkit.
    Does anyone know how to find or obtain this library?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Opening a document encrypted in Microsoft Word

    I am in a job where I need to be able to easily send and open documents that have been encrypted, but most of my colleagues use Word to create to create their documents. I've figured out how to encrypt a pages document and send it, but I still can't figure out how to open a document that was created and encrypted in Word. When I try to open it, I get a message that says "The Word document is password protected and can't be imported" but doesn't give me an opportunity to enter the password. Any clues as to how I can access these encrypted files?

    OpenOffice. NeoOffice. There may be others.
    (I take this from memory, as I'm on Windows right now. There may be some restrictions with versions of Word encryption. Or perhaps you can only save to encrypted documents but not open. Well, we can try it out.)

  • How can I find all documents encrypted by a certain application?

    I don't think Spotlight can help with this, so I am trying to use the ordinary Command-F(ind).
    I know there's a parameter option "Created by [application]" but that doesn't work, even though the Info window shows the Kind as this application.
    The specifics:
    Under System 9, I encrypted a lot of files (personal correspondence, mainly) using Sentinel 2.2. In other words, I used Sentinel to require a password to open those files.
    Now I can't open them, because that program doesn't work with Sys X.
    I could open them in Sys 9 and then resave them without the encryption. But I need to find them all.
    (I want to handle them all now, rather than over the next few decades when one might pop up now and then. I won't have Sys 9 forever.)
    I can't find any perameter option to use (in Find) that will locate these files. I have a suspicion that maybe the reason searching on the creator application doesn't work is because Sentinel didn't technically create the documents, it only encrypted existing documents—although in the Info window, Sentinel is shown as the Kind. If it's any help, also shown in the Info window is the version: "Sentinel 2.2, © 1987-89 Supermac Technology."
    Sentinel put it's own icon on all the locked files.
    Seems like it should be easy to do a search to find all these files, but I can't figure out how.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Larry

    You should be able to do it, but first you'll need to get a unique piece of metadata for the files, and then you'll need to use the Raw Query format in the Find window. I have a handy little utility written by a cyber-friend I keep in the Dock for getting the metadata entries for a file, and I think there are other free ones on VersionTracker, but you can also use Terminal to get the relevant entries. Thus I have some old Excel files. To locate all of them, I would do this:
    1. Open Terminal (it is in your Utilities folder) and type
    mdls
    and a space. Then drag and drop one of your files into the Terminal window and hit the Return key. The result will look something like this:
    NoobiX:~ francine$ mdls /Volumes/Data/BackUp/8600drives/FastMac/Documents/Finances/Finances1995
    /Volumes/Data/BackUp/8600drives/FastMac/Documents/Finances/Finances1995
    kMDItemAttributeChangeDate = 2007-08-01 12:15:22 -0700
    kMDItemContentCreationDate = 1996-03-13 01:27:46 -0800
    kMDItemContentModificationDate = 1996-03-13 02:08:03 -0800
    kMDItemContentType = "com.microsoft.excel.xls"
    kMDItemContentTypeTree = ("com.microsoft.excel.xls", "public.data", "public.item")
    kMDItemDisplayName = "Finances1995"
    kMDItemFSContentChangeDate = 1996-03-13 02:08:03 -0800
    kMDItemFSCreationDate = 1996-03-13 01:27:46 -0800
    kMDItemFSCreatorCode = 1480803660
    kMDItemFSFinderFlags = 256
    kMDItemFSInvisible = 0
    kMDItemFSIsExtensionHidden = 0
    kMDItemFSLabel = 0
    kMDItemFSName = "Finances1995"
    kMDItemFSNodeCount = 0
    kMDItemFSOwnerGroupID = 501
    kMDItemFSOwnerUserID = 501
    kMDItemFSSize = 6954
    kMDItemFSTypeCode = 1481397044
    kMDItemID = 58528
    kMDItemKind = "Microsoft Excel 4.0 worksheet"
    kMDItemLastUsedDate = 2007-08-01 12:15:22 -0700
    kMDItemUsedDates = (1996-03-13 02:08:03 -0800, 2007-07-31 17:00:00 -0700)
    2. Since I want to find all the old Excel files, I chose the line
    kMDItemKind = "Microsoft Excel 4.0 worksheet"
    You can just drag to select that line with the Mouse, then select copy.
    3. In the Find window criterion drop down menu, select Other, then scroll down to Raw Query, select it, and then paste the kMDItemKind line you copied into the open field. That should do it.

  • Document Encryption in Acrobat Standard 6

    I would like to use an encryption/password on some documents. Please advise if it exists in this version.

    It exists, but I am not sure if you can do it in Std or if Pro is required. To find out, simply open the desired PDF and use ctrl-D to bring up the document properties. Look for the security tab.

  • SharePoint data / document encryption options: experiences and recommendations

    Hi,
    I'm evaluating the options to implement an encryption of the data / documents that are saved in SharePoint (2013).
    The important requirement is that SharePoint administrators (farm admins) are not able to access the data / documents, so the encryption / security can be managed independently by a different team. This is because the SharePoint infrastructure is managed by
    a service provider and data / documents should only be accessible by our company not the service provider.
    Does anybody have experience with this and can recommend tools / services for this?
    One option I’m evaluating is the CORISECIO Gateway Server. Does anybody have experience with this?
    Thanks and best regards

    Hi,
    You can refer the Cipherpoint Eclipse for SharePoint which meets your requirement.
    Please refer to the link for complete details.
    Cipherpoint Eclipse
    Cipherpoint team had demo with us recently, they showed how encryption and decryption handles with SharePoint 2013.  Their product even support Office 365 for SharePoint.  I really liked the product. You can also request for the demo with them.
    Please mark it answered, if your problem resolved.

  • How Encrypt a File Using Key?

    Hi Guys,
    Here is my problem. I have to create a bank's document encrypted to send to a legacy system. ( Using a KEY to validate the roll process)
    I'm thinking to use two scenarios:
    1 - Generate the file via ABAP and sent it to a folder in a server to be consuming - SAP ERP.
    2 - Generate the file via ABAP, sent it to PI encrypt it via Java Mapping and sent it to a server.
    ABAP
    First question.
    There is a way to generate this file using SHA1 using a Key as parameter?
    (CALCULATE_HASH_FOR_CHAR)
    Second one.
    How can I decrypt this file to test?
    Third.
    There is others ways to encrypt a file via SAP ERP? UTF-8 and BASE32 are not encrypt codes. They are encoding code.
    PI
    First
    There is a library or other way to encrypt a file without implement a Java Mapping?
    Tnks.

    > There is a way to generate this file using SHA1 using a Key as parameter?
    Why don't you simple search the forum with "SHA1" term, you'd get the answer in an instant
    > How can I decrypt this file to test?
    > There is others ways to encrypt a file via SAP ERP? UTF-8 and BASE32 are not encrypt codes. They are encoding code.
    What encryption do you need?
    > But I would like to know if are these methods algorithms as DES, AES, RSA... or others ?
    Couldn't you say it at the beginning!
    By simply looking at CL_HARD_WIRED_ENCRYPTOR methods, we see that the encryption mechanism is very simple (I'm not expert so I can't tell what it is), I wouldn't rely on it...
    I recommend you to read [Note 662340 - SSF Encryption Using the SAPCryptolib|http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/662340]. There are also some documentation, security guides on sap library and sap marketplace.

  • Securing pdf document with digital signatures

    I have a pdf document that has digital signatures. We need to secure it so no one who has input their digital signature can go back in later, delete their signature and then 're-sign' it. But I get an error message telling me I can't secure the document because it has digital signatures.
    Is there any way to secure the document so only I can secure/unsecure it after digital signatures have been input?
    Thanks!

    You don't need to use document encryption to lock the PDF file. You can set the signature field properties to mark all fields as read-only at signature creation. Try this:
    Select the Tools > Toolbars > Advanced Editing menu item
    Click the Select Object tool on the Advanced editing toolbar (it's the arrow icon)
    Right mouse click on the signature field and select Properties from the pop-up menu
    Select the Signed tab on the Digital Signature Properties dialog
    Select the Mark as read-only radio button and All fields from the corresponding drop-down list
    Click the Close button on the Digital Signature Properties dialog
    Select the File > Save As menu item and save a copy (in other words, leave the original copy as is in case you find you locked yourself out of the document, that way you'll have a fall-back recovery option)
    Good luck,
    Steve

  • How can I allow visitors to my website to search within pdf documents created with Acrobat?

    I honestly had no idea where to place this question. If I should move it to another forum area please just let me know. I have about 200-300 pdf documents on my website and people are able to search by the title of the file but not for items in the body of the document. Is there a way that is possible?

    Are the documents encrypted? If they are not, the common search engines (Google, etc) will normally index all the text in a PDF, the same as if it was a regular Web page. They don't index non-text media within a PDF (images, attachments, etc.) nor will they handle PDF Portfolios.

  • Encrypted excel file will not open

    I am tyring to open an excel file from NEEC.  It is an energy compliance form used to evaluate energy usage in buildings.  It opens easily in excel, without mention of encryption.  But when I try opening in numbers all i get is the error message, "document encrypted and can't be opened"
    Anyone passed this hurdle before?

    Hi
    I can not comment specifically on NEEC, but:
    I too have Excel files that are password protected to open and modify.
    When I transfer this file from a PC (or a Mac) to another Mac, it does not open when i click on it, and gives the same message in this thread about encryption.
    I solved it by going to Finder
    Highlight/Select (don't double-click) the document in Finder
    Go to "file" on finder menu bar
    Go to "get info" on the drop-down list
    Click on "open with"
    Change the default from "Numbers" to "Microsoft Excel"
    Click on your document
    And you are away
    You will of course have to have the relevant passwords
    And I suspect, you can save back to Numbers
    I hope this is useful to you
    Thanks
    Joe

  • Encrypting SharePoint list

    I looked at transparent data encryption to encrypt the entire content database that I want to encrypt, but my version of SQL Server 2008 is Standard, not Enterprise or DC.
    At this point, it looks like it would be best for me to upgrade the database server to 2012 and use TDE vs some of the other options I've seen for encrypting the data in SharePoint. I really only need to encrypt a few lists/libraries that store PII. The
    documents get emailed around via workflow but I need them to be encrypted unless an authorized user is accessing them, for example.

  • Data encryption within Azure website storing in Azure database

    I am wondering what the best way to encrypt/decrypt my documents (which will be stored within my database) while at rest. My web app will allow user to upload document and share them with other people so they can download them.
    I want the encryption keys/intial vectors to be generated from code so there is no user input. Here is my current thought which is a hybrid of AES/RSA.
    Create a new table called keys within my database which will look like the following...
    ID | Key | Vector
    then when a document is uploaded the Key/Vector is generated and used to encrypt the document and then the document is saved into the document table returning the document ID, which will be stored within the new table in the ID field along with the key and
    vector.
    Then i somehow need to protect the keys as anyone who grabs my database will have access to all the doucments still as the keys are there!
    So i was thinking i would upload a private certificate into Azure storage and store the public certificate inside my web app so before the key/vector is saved my application will encrypt them with the public certificate.
    Then when a user downloads a document, the app will connect to my Azure storage account and grab the private key, it will grab the row from key table associated with the document id they are trying to download and then it will use the private key to decrypt
    the key/vector then it will use the key/vector to decrypt the document.
    Does this seem the best way forward for how to do it, am i way off, or is there a security hole within this solution?

    All your keys are still the same so long as you use one cert to do the work. (and they're all still in one place).  If the app downloads the private key, well - the app and anyone in the middle has the key to figure out the rest and decrypt all the
    data.  You'll  struggle to make good security just by adding levels of effort or middle steps like that.
    What you're doing is kind of like storing the key to your house in your car, and the car's key is in the car's door lock.  You've just added a single step to get inside your home.
    If I have your DB, I probably have your code, which means I know how to do the rest, and since everything is public, so is the resultant data.
    What I'd do is have Azure Storage holding the encrypted data, and a key share table.  Use the DB as an index if you feel you need, but it's cheaper to go with just storage.
    Each app would create, have, and hold privately, an AES private key. The app would somehow initially upload the public key for the user to the key share table via your service.
    When user A wanted to send to user B, they would get B's public key from the key share.  The App would encrypt A's Document and only then send the encrypted data to B's 'mailbox'. Later, B would come along and see a file was waiting.  They'd download
    the encrypted data and then decrypt it with their private key which has never left their app/device/wherever.
    Think about making every private key 'private' to the entity owning it.  Don't ever store/share/transmit a private key where any public entity can get it.  That's the only way it'll work.
    To make things even harder, you can do things to the data before document encryption, (and after) but never mess with the one golden rule of AES:
    Keep "private" private, private!
    Darin R.
