Documentation on shownone in jbo:InputSelect

I'm using Oracle JDeveloper 9.0.3 and the documentation does not seem to include "shownone" for the jbo:InputSelect tag.
I want to use "shownone" to provide a default selection like "please make a selection" or something.
Here is the code:
<jbo:InputSelect
multiple="false"
datasource="ds"
dataitem="Id"
shownone="true" >
</jbo:InputSelect>
Thanks,
Stephen

Here is the documentation on inputSelect
http://download.oracle.com/otn_hosted_doc/jdeveloper/905/working_with_jsp_adfbc/f1_jsp_jbo_tags/f1_editorjboinputselect.html
The showNone option only allows you to display "None" label for a null value. It does not let you customize it.

    How can I use <jbo:InputSelect for a char type filed?
    I have two tables. One is room (primary key is room(type is char)), another table is responsibility (foreign ker is room(type is char)). Both tables have same length for room column.
    There is a problem:
    If I use (in the "DataEditComponent.jsp" file)
    <jbo:InputSelect multiple="false" datasource="dsEdit" displaydatasource="roomData" displaydataitem="ROOM" displayvaluedataitem="ROOM" ></jbo:InputSelect>
    to get the room input for responsibility from combobox(Datasource roomData is from room table). In the form the room field cannot bind the data in combobox, alway select the first item. And if I select one item and click the update button.There is an error message:
    Error Message: JBO-27010: Attribute set with value H409 for Room in Responsibility has invalid precision/scale
    I found If I changed the field type from char to varchar2 in database also change the entity objects, it works well. I wonder if there are any diffrence using <jbo:InputSelect tag in char and varchar2 type. How can I use <jbo:InputSelect for a char type filed as i don't want to change my datatype in database at this stage.
    I try this in JDeveloper 9.03, 9.034, 9.04. The result is the same.

    If I were in your shoes, here's how I would do it:
    <%-- Assuming you have dsRoom and dsResponsibility --%>
    <%-- Select is an HTML tag --%>
    <select name="ROOM" size="1">
    <% char roomID =""; // Init your character var
    // Open a rowsetIterator to get the records and add them to the LOV
    <jbo:RowsetIterate datasource="dsResponsibility" changecurrentrow="true" >
    <% roomID = (char)dsResponsibility.getRowSet().getCurrentRow().getAttribute("ROOM"); // Grab the char value
    // add the value to the LOV
    %>
    <option value="<%=roomID%>"><%=roomID%></option>
    </jbo:RowsetIterate>
    </select>
    If you are using this as part of an edit page you may want to utilize the "selected" option of the <option> tag. In one instance I am doing this on an edit page because the use may open an existing record. If I don't account for it, then it will change the DB to contain the first value from the list! You can do a simple check like:
    //Set the current record's char
    char curRecord = (char)rowEdit.getAttribute("ROOM");
    // inside the iterate:
    if (curRecord == roomID) {
    <option value="<%=roomID%>" selected><%=roomID%></option>
    } else {
    <option value="<%=roomID%>" ><%=roomID%></option>
    Hope that helps!

    This is why you should never change default JHeadstart templates. If you want to customize behavior, then create a custom template, by copying the content of the jheadstart template/.jspx files and making the necessary changes in the custom template.

  • BC4J with Struts using EditAction's create method.

    Hi,
    I am using BC4J with struts and using the EditAction and UpdateAction classes provided by BC4J.
    When i want to create a new row in the database the documentation asks me to call EditAction's create() method and then UpdateAction's execute() method to do it. But even when i just call UpdateAction's execute() method I am able to create a new row. So WHY should I call EditAction's create() method ?????

    EditAction's create() method is something you would call in the action before rendering the empty form for the user to fill in.
    It creates a row, and then marks the row as having STATUS_INITIALIZED using the Row.setNewRowState(Row.STATUS_INITIALIZED) call.
    By setting the row to STATUS_INITIALIZED, this makes BC4J "forget" that it's a new row that needs to be inserted. In effect, it makes that new row a throwaway row used only for the purpose of rendering the blank form. An important reason you would want to do things this way is to pickup entity-level default values in the attributes of the new row.
    For example, in the toy store demo, why is it that when you register as a new user the "Country" poplist defaults to "United States" ? (it's not the first entry in the list).
    The answer is that, since the EditAction (or in this case my custom subclass of that) creates the blank row, the fact that the "toystore.model.businessobjects.Account" entity object declares that its Country attribute has a default value of "US" makes the blank row created in the "toystore.model.dataaccess.Accounts" view object have a default value of "US", and that default value in the blank row causes the <jbo:InputSelect> tag that renders the poplist to mark the corresponding "United States" option in the list as currently selected (as it's the display string associated in the poplist with the value "US").

  • How do I create linked LOVs in a JSP

    We are attempting to create a list of values (LOV) for a group of categories on a jsp page. We would like the LOV to be populated with the category names. Next to the category LOV we would like to have a link “get subcategories” that when clicked would return to the same jsp page, set the value of the LOV to the category selected, and populate a second LOV with sub-category names for the selected category.
    We have created an sql-only View Object (VO) for the categories and linked it to an sql-only VO for the subcategories (in a master-detail relationship) and added the VOs to an app module. We have tested the link between the two VOs with successful results.
    We would like to know how to create a linked pair of LOVs on a jsp page. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Les,
    If I understand correctly, you can do this fairly simply.
    First create datasources:
    <jbo:DataSource name="dsCategories" ...
    <jbo:DataSource name="dsSubCategories" ...
    <% // add a where clause to SubCategories based on the parameter "CategoryNumber"
    String categoryNumber = params.getParameter("CategoryNumber");
    // Make sure to default to something if the parameter is null or you'll get an error
    if (categoryNumber == null)
    categoryNumber = "1";
    dsSubCategories.getRowSet().setWhereClauseParam(0, categoryNumber);
    // execute the query on dsSubCategories to ensure that the where clause reflects on this page
    dsSubCategories.getRowSet().executeQuery();
    Create a form with your drop down lists.
    1. I would create a <form> that posts to the same page.
    2. Add a <jbo:FormEvent> tag with a custom event name like "getSubcategories".
    3. Create a LOV that isn't connected to the database:
    <jbo:InputSelect multiple="false" displaydatasource="dsCategories" displaydataitem="CategoryName" displayvaluedataitem="CategoryNumber" ></jbo:InputSelect>
    4. Create a second LOV that also isn't connected to a datasource. It would look like this:
    <jbo:InputSelect multiple="false" displaydatasource="dsSubCategories" displaydataitem="SubCategoryName" displayvaluedataitem="SubCategoryNumber" ></jbo:InputSelect>
    5. Add a submit button
    That should work. Some things to note:
    1. This probably won't track your previously selected options. I don't know if you can do that with this interface.
    2. I'd add some javascript to postback when a new list item is selected.
    Based on these points I would code the select list by hand like this:
    <select name="CategoryNumber" size="1" onchange="this.form.submit()">
    <% String curCatNumber="";
    String CatNumber = params.getParameter("CategoryNumber");
    if (CatNumber == null)
    CatNumber = "1";
    <jbo:RowsetIterate datasource="dsCategories" >
    <jbo:Row id="rowCategory" datasource="dsCategories" action="active" >
    <% curCatNumber = ((oracle.jbo.domain.Number)rowCategory.getAttribute("Category")).toString();%>
    <option value="<%=curParlimentId%>"
    <% if (CatNumber.equals(curCatNumber)) { %>selected<% } %>>
    <jbo:ShowValue datasource="dsCategories" dataitem="CategoryName" ></jbo:ShowValue>
    </option>
    </jbo:Row>
    </jbo:RowsetIterate>
    </select>
    The second would be similar.
    Hope this answered your question!

  • Help! Using "Create" action in insert jsp page vs in submission page.

    This is regarding creating a new record using data TAGS:
    I'm in a dilemma as to whether I should use the data source tag <jbo:Row id="myrow" datasource="iss_vo1" action="Create">
    in my first jsp page ( which accepts input from a user) or in the 2nd jsp page (which does the actual commit).
    If I actually create the view record n the first page itself then I get into all kinds of problems if the user decides against saving the record and backs out.[because there is a null hanging record out there]
    But if I don't use it, then I am unable to use my LOVs in the html form.
    Can anyone help me resolve this issue?
    Currently I have used the data source tag

But what if the user does not click on the save BUTTON and instead click on the "back" tab. This is where all the problem occurs. How do I get rid of this problem?
    If I try to just use an HTML form without creating a record in this page then how will I use the LOVs?

    I can't actually see any LOV's on your first page so I am not completely sure that I understand your situation. However if you are talking about using the InputSelectLOV datatag, there is no reason why you cannot use that within a html form, without having to create a record in the RowSet.
    The Insert page is by default created without any datasources - just a standard HTML form. The form is submitted and the InsertSubmit page reads the values from the request object, matches the parameter names with your VO attribute names and does your create.
    Your LOV data will be coming from another table so doing a Row tag Create on your Insert page won't make any difference to it. Have I misunderstood something here? I have used LOV's on my Insert pages and I definitely have not created a row in the Rowset anywhere but the Submit pages.
    There is a problem on both Edit and Insert pages whereby if there are no rows in the table for which you have a datasource defined you can get problems, but it doesn't sound as though that is your problem. Maybe I need some more information from you?

  • Invalid arguments in call for an Application Module

    We are writing a web-app which has two packages in our BC4J project, each with an Application Module. One of these app modules contains business components for objects owned by the user ILOGNET and the other for objects owned by the user EAGLE. We are allowing users to logon and connect to the database as themselves by specifying username and password dynamically as attributes of each instance of both application modules.
    The problem we are having is that for a particular JSP sometimes when we deploy, we get an "invalid arguments in call" error. Other times, it doesn't seem to be a problem. The user I am testing with has Oracle roles that have privileges to view all the necessary objects. I'm just not sure why it seems to be temperamental like this. Does anyone have any ideas ? The code for the problem JSP is shown below.

    Regards,
    Joe Mellors

    I'd forgotten all about this until now when it just happened again. Seems strange that it works fine a lot of the time. It only seems to happen with one of the two Application Module's in the project.
    Here is the call stack. I'd appreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    HI Experts
    I am using given bellow code to Edit Employee data. i dont know how to update this data and go back to Brose Form and want also place ReSet Button
    i know i can easily do that using DataEdit Tag but using DataEdit Tag i am not been able to customize data entry
    The Code is

    </td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td>Hire Date</td>
    <td><jbo:InputDate datasource="EmpData" dataitem="Hiredate" formname="emp_form" readonly="true" ></jbo:InputDate>
    </td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td>Salary</td>
    <td><jbo:InputText datasource="EmpData" dataitem="Sal" maxlength="5" readonly="false" ></jbo:InputText>
    </td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td>Department</td>
    <td><jbo:InputSelectLOV datasource="EmpData" dataitem="Deptno" displaydatasource="DeptData" displaydataitem="Dname" displayvaluedataitem="Deptno" formname="emp_form" ></jbo:InputSelectLOV>
    </td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </form>
    // i use this but its not working
    <uix:submitButton id="Update" formName="emp_form" destination="EmpBrowse.jsp" name="Update" text="Update" />
    <uix:resetButton id="ReSet" formName="emp_form" name="ReSet" />
    <jbo:ReleasePageResources />
    </body>

    See this thread for customizing the layout of a DataEdit component:
    Working with DataEdit Tag
    The DataEdit is intended to render all fields in the datasource on the screen. If you only want one field you can simply open a form tag, add an input field, add submit buttons (html submit buttons) and close the form tag. If you add a DataHandler to the page it will even do the DML for you.

  • New UIX  Developer Help

    I've got a quick question I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere else so here goes:
    I've been tasked by my company to do some JSP development for a simple application (accessing a DB, printing reports, etc). They'd like it done in UIX because of the preformatted feel. Since I'm relatively new to this technology I've been using the wizards and hacking the pages as needed.
    So far so good. But on one of the editing pages (i.e. where you add/modify records) I'd like to not use the default input renderer (&lt;bc4juix:InputRender...&gt;) that the wizard provides (which produces a textbox) and use a combo box instead. The problem is if i use &lt;jbo:InputSelect...&gt; the combo box is kicked out of the UIX layout and defaults to the upper lefthand corner of the screen. Also, if i use &lt;uix:choice...&gt; I can't figure out how to map the values to the column in the table i'm using.
    I know this probably has a simple answer to it, but I'd appreciate help on either figuring out how to get jbo:InputSelect to fall into the UIX page layout or how to map the information in uix:choice to the database. Any other suggestions would be helpful
    If this doesn't make sense, let me know. Also can anyone suggest some good resources (either on the 'net or bookwise) for JSP and/or UIX development?
    Thanks in advance.

    Not sure how to customize the <bc4juix:InputRender> JSP tag, but you can find more information about many UIX topics in the UIX Developers Guide in the JDeveloper Help system.

    Kind Regards.

  • View Cache, Timeout=Never

    We have quite a few search forms, each with a bunch of combo boxes. The combo boxes are fed by lookup tables whose rows change VERY seldomly (is that a word?). We'd like to use <jbo:InputSelect...> to populate these, but would like it to load the values from the database only once - by the first person who hits it. On subsequent hits, it should just populate from the View Cache. For the few times that we change lookup values, we could manually call voObject.clearCache() so the values would load again.
    I know how to write this manually by varying the instructions in Online Help's "Populating a View Object with Static Data". But I'm lazy. Instead, I want to set some setting, or write a very small amount of override code in the ViewObjectImpl class that will accomplish the same thing. Ideas y'all?

    Please see the javadoc for oracle.jbo.http.SharedSessionCookieImpl and oracle.jbo.http.SharedSessionCookieFactory.
    These classes may be used to access a shared ApplicationModule which caches the shared, read mostly data. The
    javadoc contains instructions for using them. Use is transparent with the exception of having
    to declare the jbo.ampool.sessioncookiefactoryclass Configuration parameter for the shared ApplicationModule.
    If iterator state is required during a request It may be necessary to synchronize the threads (though the jbo:InputSelect
    tag does not look like it does require iterator state). If necessary, you can synchronize on the SessionCookie lock
    itself which you can acquire a reference to via SessionCookieImpl.getSyncLock(). In 9.0.3 you will be able to use
    the locking mode when acquiring an ApplicationModule to provide asynchronous thread access to a shared
    ApplicationModule (oracle.jbo.common.ampool.SessionCookie.useApplicationModule(true /* lock */)).
    Hope this helps.

  • Date class is missing in docs

    Hi, could anybody give me documentation to the Oracle.jbo.Domain.Date class ?
    Why this is not documented?
    why give this class with the same name than java.util.Date ? it really turns coding hard:
    oracle.jbo.Domain.Date d1 = getMyDate();
    java.util.Date d2 = d1.toDate();
    it's really disgusting.
    null

    There is a bug logged regarding the missing javadoc in JDev 3.1. There was documentation for the Date in JDev 3.0. Apparently we missed it somehow. Below is the javadoc from JDev 3.0. Sorry for the long post, but I hope it helps.
