Documents with individual permissions reinheriting permissions after check in

I have a folder within a SharePoint 2010 document library, with several excel spreadsheets within it.  The excel spreadsheets all have individual permissions on them.  Check-out is inforced on the library.  A user then checks-out their
spreadsheet, amends it and checks it back in.  The spreadsheet then loses it individual permissions and reinherits the permissions from the folder above.  Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening?  As we need to keep the individual
permissions.

looks strange. let us know some more details.
1. check the workflow if any associated
2. Check the is that document library created based on custom template
3. Upload a document to the library and break the permission. now check-out--> do some modification to the document--> save it-> check-in the document. Now check whether the permission remains or reinherited from parent
4. check if ant event receiver associated with content type if custom content type used.
Hope this will help you

  • Still having problems with insufficeint permissions - after clean install

    I'm seeing this on multiple friends' computers, and now have it on mine.
    An auto update fails with the error of insufficient permissions.  (I can't find how to post a screen shot of it.)
    I read through several discussions, and ran the manual uninstaller, then checked for the files as denoted on the FAQ, and tried to run the installer after downloading it and still cannot get Flash Player installed due to insufficient permissions writing the files.
    I am on Windows 7 64 bit(current patch level), IE(9.0.14), and have d/l the latest Adobe Flash Installer.
    I know that at least 1 of my friends is on Windows 7 32 bit, IE, and whatever the latest Adobe Flash update is trying to install.
    I am running on an Administer account while trying this.
    When I was first asked for help I checked and know that my friend's account was Administration as well.  Last month I reran the flash installation file and used the "Run as Administrator" option from an administration account and the installed worked.  That did not fix the issue this time.  As stated above I have it on my system now and some other friends have it on theirs as well.
    How can I fix the issue?  How can I make sure it doesn't come back when the next auto audate takes place?
    Edit addition:
    An auto update kicked off and it failed too.  Here is the log at this point:

  • Assemble Documents with READ_ONLY permissions set

    Greetings,
    We receive a boatload of documents from different sources, and have to package them together.  Adobe Assembler service seemed the obvious choice, but we've run into one problem in particular.
    Many of the documents we receive have Read Only security that is password protected.  When I try to run those through Assembler, it fails and I receive the error message further below in the logs.
    Notice, it says Package operation failed due to permissions for PDF document "0"
    We don't have access to these passwords and never will, so what can I do??  Do I have to use a third-party tool to package documents that have read-only permissions?  Because previously we were able to package these just fine with a third party PDF Creator.  We don't plan to modify anything in the document... just need to package a bunch of them together.  Any suggestions??
    Any suggestions or advice is much appreciated,
    Thanks!!
    GS

    Thanks Kathy for the reply.
    I did find this and try it out, although our end-users are expecting a single flat PDF with all of the content because that is what they have always been given.  Until Assembler, we never even knew that this wasn't desired behavior because every other 3rd party product out there makes this so simple.
    I totally understand the concept and reasons why Adobe is doing this, but at the same time - I feel like it makes the Adobe Assembler inferior to the 3rd party applications in this respect because they can all do this.  It would be really nice if this could be reconsidered at least for creating a PDF out of documents that you have no intention of modifying.  The document is not password protected to open (it simply has a password on DOC_MODIFY, so it can be read by anyone but not modified without a password). Anyone could take and copy the read-only content out of the document to assemble into another doc however they wanted anyway, unless they use the Adobe Assembler service...

  • 10.5.6: Problems with disk permissions after Time Machine restore

    HELP!
    This is the second time this is happening to me-- I restored my 10.5.6 system fully from a Time Machine backup, and now the disk permissions, as far as I can tell, are completely screwed up.
    I have not turned off my system since the restore, for fear that it won't start up again (as was the case the last time I did this). When I try to repair disk permissions in the Disk Utility app, I get the error message "The underlying task reported failure on exit."
    Generally, the system does not have access to certain folders (most, if not all of them, actually).
    For example, Safari can't use plugins.
    I'm not asking why this is happening, I just want to know what I should do to avoid having to reinstall 10.5.5, update it to 10.5.6, and put all of my files back, because all my settings would be deleted if I chose that option.
    I'm not going to turn off my computer until I fix this, because I know it will never startup--
    again.
    DUN DUN DUN...
    So please help me, and thank you kindly,
    SeanDaBomb

    SeanDaBomb wrote:
    I repaired permissions, updated prebindings, cleaned user caches and cleaned archived logs almost every single day before I restored my system. I was trying out this theme changer for Leopard that was unable to undo its (ugly) work. I think the problem might be that I restored the system from my 10.5.5 install disk (yes, in the Utilities menu, the Restore From Backup option).
    Using a 10.5.5 install disc doesn't matter, as you didn't actually load anything from it, just used it's installer to do the restore from TM.
    So you selected a previous backup, from before all the trouble started, right?
    My backup drive's condition is alright, so I doubt that I restored corrupted files.
    Everything now on your system came from your TM drive.
    I'd suggest booting from your Leopard Install disk, and using it's copy of Disk Utility to do a +Repair Disk+ on your internal HD, then a +Repair Permissions.+

  • Firefox will not open for other users on a shared computer with individual accounts one day after installing Firefox

    On a computer that is shared with multiple users(3),two of the users cannot open Firefox,only one user can. It shows the blue circle (Windows 7) but it disappears and does not open. Task Manager shows its running,but after closing,it won't open. Are there settings to adjust in Windows,or on Internet Options?
    I am running Windows 7 Ultimate with SP1 installed.

    Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
    '''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
    #Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
    #After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
    #Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    #*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    #*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
    #Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    ##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    ##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
    Please report back to see if this helped you!

    result = sAILayer->CountLayers(&count);

    AILayerHandle lyr = NULL;
    result = sAILayer->GetNthLayer(i, &lyr);
    if (lyr)
       result = sAIArtSet->LayerArtSet(layer, fArtSet);
      result = sAIArtSet->CountArtSet(fArtSet,&artCount);
      for (long j=0; j < artCount; j++)

        sAIArt->GetArtName(artHandle,name,&boolname);
        sAIUIDUtils->GetArtUID(artHandle,true,&artUID);
    If there is some other way of achieving by using art set please help me.

  • DU differs over permissions after using Macjanitor

    Thanks Sig and others for help. I do prefer to run a non-automated maintenance program like MacJanitor because I shut down the computer at the end of the day (it's also only 144 kb). If it isn't doing any harm I'd prefer to keep using it, even if it differs with DU permissions. I've copied part of the thread which contains my unanswered question which seems to have gotten lost amid the responses to Jorge's posting (and now buried by a flurry of newer postings) . I've copied the relevant part of the thread here.
    Also are there any other, perhaps more up to date programs, which can be run manually? Thanks.

    I recently started using Macjanitor ("run all tasks"). When I've done this - several times now - and then run Permissions Repair, I get:
    Permissions differ on ./private/var/log/secure.log, should be -rw------- , they are -rw-r-----
    Owner and group corrected on ./private/var/log/secure.log
    Permissions corrected on ./private/var/log/secure.log
    Is Macjanitor creating a problem? DU restores the correct permissions afterward. Should I stop running Macjanitor? (I like to use it because it is non-automated). Thanks for help.

    Yes that's perfectly normal and is what should happen. MacJanitor runs the cron scripts manually. You get the same result if you let your Mac run Friday night into Saturday. No problem.

    Thanks for quick reply.
    So, does that mean I shouldn't bother repairing permissions with DU after using Macjanitor?"

    So, does that mean I shouldn't bother repairing permissions with DU after using Macjanitor?"
    Yes, you needn't bother repairing permissions after using MacJanitor. But I still recommend using something different. If you must do this manually (I really don't see a reason why) then use one of the more current utilities such as TinkerTool System, Onyx, CockTail, etc.
    Although what happens with MacJanitor is innocuous, it's one of those items that shows that MacJanitor needs some revision, but the program seems to have long been abandoned by its author. I used it for a while, but by the time Tiger appeared it was completely unreliable on my systems, so I stopped using it. Since then I use Macaroni (shareware) but if it's $9.00 price tag is too high PseudoAnacron is freeware. Either completely automates the process by checking if the scripts have been run since the last time the computer was shut down. If not then they run the appropriate script. This assures the maintenance is performed whether your computer is turned off or left on. The choice is yours. I prefer not having to remember to run maintenance scripts.

    Hello again.
    I'm still having problems with this. I made
    a simple servlet that reads from and writes
    to text file. The reading part work fine on my
    computer, but the writing doesn't, not even
    an exception is thrown if the file exists that
    I'm trying to write to. If I try to create a new
    file I'll get an exception about file permissions.
    I also asked a friend of mine to try this same
    servlet on his windows computer and it works
    as it should.
    Here's the code
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class ReadServlet extends HttpServlet
         public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException
              String s = "";
              PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
              String docroot = getServletContext().getRealPath( "/" );
              out.println("docroot: "+docroot);
              File file = new File(docroot+"test.txt");
              if(file.exists())
                   s = readFile(file);
                   out.println(s);
              else
                   out.println("file not found");
                   //file.createNewFile();                    // causes exception
                   //out.println("new file created.");
              writeFile(file, "written by servlet");
              out.println("Now look in the file "+file.getPath());
              out.println("and see if it contains text 'written by servlet'");
         public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException
              doPost(request, response);
         private String readFile(File file)
              FileInputStream fis = null;
              BufferedInputStream bis = null;
              DataInputStream dis = null;
              String s = "";
              try
                   fis = new FileInputStream(file);
                   bis = new BufferedInputStream(fis);
                   dis = new DataInputStream(bis);
                   s = dis.readLine();
                   fis.close();
                   bis.close();
                   dis.close();
              catch(Exception e)
                   e.printStackTrace();
              return s;
         private void writeFile(File file, String s)
              FileOutputStream fos = null;
              BufferedOutputStream bos = null;
              DataOutputStream dos = null;
              try
                   fos = new FileOutputStream(file);
                   bos = new BufferedOutputStream(fos);
                   dos = new DataOutputStream(bos);
                   dos.writeChars(s);
                   fos.flush();
                   bos.flush();
                   dos.flush();
                   fos.close();
                   bos.close();
                   dos.close();
              catch(Exception e)
                   e.printStackTrace();
    }And if someone wants to test this servlet I can
    give a war package.
    Any advices?

  • [solved] findutils - problem with file permissions

    Hey,
    I tried running makepkg -c for an updated PKGBUILD of a package I maintain in the AUR (gretl), and it seemed fine but then hit:
    ==> Tidying install...
    -> Purging other files...
    -> Compressing man and info pages...
    -> Stripping debugging symbols from binaries and libraries...
    -> Removing libtool .la files...
    -> Removing empty directories...
    find: invalid predicate `-delete'
    I'd had some other strange errors with find over the past few weeks or so (my last -Syu was after this month's catalyst driver came out with support for the current kernel) but had shrugged them off. This error made me decide to try reinstalling findutils, and it gave the error:
    error: cannot remove file 'usr/bin/find': Operation not permitted
    a bit stupidly, I tried pacman -Rd then -S findutils, and now I get
    error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
    findutils: /usr/bin/find exists in filesystem
    Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
    missing dependency for ca-certificates : findutils
    missing dependency for initscripts : findutils
    missing dependency for mkinitcpio : findutils
    missing dependency for texinfo : findutils
    ls -als /usr/bin | grep find     gives:
    12 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 10636 Mar 25 16:24 deepfind
    64 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 59200 May 9 01:58 efinder
    64 -rwxr-xr-x 1 500 500 59536 Jun 16 14:49 find
    and rm, mv, chmod, chown etc on /usr/bin/find as root, and from livecd, all also come back with "Operation not permitted".
    find seems to work fine for a few simple uses I've just tried.. but the last time I ran makepkg -c without the error was before the last system upgrade, so I'm guessing find didn't upgrade properly then due to whatever is wrong with the permissions, leading to the other errors.
    Anyway, I guess the question is, can I do anything to get rid of /usr/bin/find and reinstall findutils? don't mind so much about missing dependencies as I tend not to upgrade that often, but find not doing what it should is a bit of a pain.

    mm I tried all that, and no luck. though trying adduser 500 did give me a helpful reminder that usernames can't start with numbers...
    anyway, it's not a huge deal atm, and I can always clean reinstall the / partition if things really break. Thanks all the same.
    PS:
    huh, just had a thought - I remember how I used to get annoyed how mounting partitions using ext2ifs in windows didn't respect permissions properly. and now I almost wish I had a windows partition / that this wasn't a laptop hard drive...

  • Firefox allows Java Applet with elevated permissions

    I ended up with a virus on Friday when I selected "View" on an HTML attachment from the GMail web interface. The attachment started up java and proceeded to install the malware "Desktop Security 2010" and make changes to my system startup. I'm wondering how this happened and how to prevent it. My java security settings (Java Control Panel->Security->Certificates->Trusted Certificates) only lists Akamai Technologies and JavaFX as trusted certificates. Shouldn't that mean that I get prompted if any one else signs an applet that tries to run outside the sandbox? What else do I need to do to make sure that NO java applets run with elevated permissions?
    I've disabled java via an add-in in the meantime, but what do I need to do to secure my browser properly?
    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice
    == I selected "view" on a virus-infected email attachment in gmail

    Хорошо. Am now able to enter Cyrillic font into my applet. HOWEVER, another issue remains: After pressing enter to process input, new window opens as expected with correct information displaying in window EXCEPT for drop-down menu bar that should display in green square of open window. http://www.lesbaileyev.com/Project/RFvstem.html I will open another suport question for this new development.

  • Protection Domains with static permissions are improperly constructed

    I'm pretty new to the java security model, but this doesn't look right. It seems as though ProtectionDomains with static permissions have symantically different functionality than those that are constructed with the "variant" constructor(CodeSource, PermissionCollection, ClassLoader, Principal[]). The documentation enforces this idea "The only permissions granted to this domain are the ones specified; the current Policy will not be consulted". Why then are the ProtectionDomains reconstructed improperly in combine(ProtectionDomain[], ProtectionDomain[]) method of the javax.security.auth.SubjectDomainCombiner? The wrong constructor is being called.
    The reason the SubjectDomainCombiner is reconstructing these improperly is because it ownly uses the second form of the ProtectionDomain constructor. In my case the SubjectDomainCombiner is reconstructing a ProtectionDomain that was constructed with the first form. Basically this means that the staticPermissions variable in my ProtectionDomain changes from true to false. Then when it's time to call the implies(Permission) method it consults the current policy instead of ONLY using static permissions.
    This is causing havic with my custom classloader because I don't want the security manager checking the current Policy for permissions. I only want the ProtectionDomain's static permissions. Bug 4687166 also deals with combiners improperly constructing ProtectionDomains, but it is NOT a duplicate.
    Now this means I'm going to have to extend the Policy class to get around this problem. Something isn't right, if it's me, please let me know.

    interesting - if i follow what you're saying, you expect SubjectDomainCombiner to inspect the input ProtectionDomains. if one was constructed with "static" permissions, do you expect SubjectDomainCombiner to create a new ProtectionDomain with the additional Principal info, while retaining the static permissions?
    or do you expect SubjectDomainCombiner to just leave that ProtectionDomain alone - in particular, do not update it with Principal info since it won't affect the permissions granted to that domain anyways?
    either is an interesting change to contemplate, and is a technical possibility for SubjectDomainCombiner (since it is J2SE code). however, to come up with a true solution available to any custom DomainCombiner would probably require public API changes to ProtectionDomain.
