Does float work differently in Firefox than in IE?

I have some small div's that line up correctly in IE, I used
float left. But in Firefox the first line is good, but when they
carry over to the second line the div's float to the right and
don't fill up the line. Can this be fixed?

Here is my CSS and html from my page. On my page I have more
if the "gallery" div's and I just want them to flow on the page.
Any suggestions?
#main {
width:96%;
margin-left:2%;
margin-right:2%;
margin-top:1%;
margin-bottom:1%;
#gallery {
float:left;
margin-left:1%;
margin-right:1%;
text-align:center;
color:#CCC;

• Buttons work differently in IE than in Firefox.

I'm stumped on what is causing my buttons to act funny in IE.  Everything looks/works rad in Firefox.  Can someone please end my misery and shed some light on what I'm doing wrong?
Go to this link in IE and in Firefox and hover over the buttons near the top. http://ohanapaddle.com/blog/
In IE they have this little underline thingy going on and I don't know where it's coming from.
Thanks for all your help!

Just found the answer:
By default, images align their bottom edgeswith the baseline of the text. That gray space you're seeing is thespace below the baseline, used by decenders like q, p, y, etc. (Thefact that you have no text is irrelevant - space for descenders isstill reserved.)
You can get rid of it like this:
a img {  /* You might want to make this rule more specific! */
        vertical-align: bottom;
See That mysterious gap under images for a full discussion of this.

• Does the Math.Random() work differently in Firefox and Safari??

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with a problem I'm
running into using the math.random(). I'm using Flash CS3 and
created a very simple script to select random frames in a simple
movie. It works as expected in the CS3 environment and in Safari
but it doesn't work correctly in Firefox or in the DotNetNuke
module I am using. Here is the code:
i = Math.ceil(Math.random() * 3);
gotoAndPlay("Image"+i);
I would appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks for following up with me. Yes. When I test the movie
its works fine in Safari but not in Firefox and I don't have a clue
as to why. I hope that you can shed some light on this for me.
Thanks.

• "back" button does not work correctly in Firefox 4. I have downgraded because of this.

Our intranet has a page (1) from which user generates a list of links to other items (page2). Follow one of these links to page (3). Press "back" - returns to page (1) not page (2). Works ok in Firefox 3.6.17.

• WMP plug-in does not working on Mozilla Firefox 4.0 on Win 7 as it was working on 3.6

on Mozilla Firefox 3.6 the above mentioned plug in was working on Windows 7. After updating to Mozilla Firefox 4.0 the plug-in does not working so i cannot hear some web radio stations e.g. www.melodia.gr

I solved this by turning off tamper protection in NAV 2010. The Firefox immedately updated. I understand virus scanners/anti spyware program like spybot and SpySweeper can interfere with updates. Also Comodo AV. It seems to me that nything that protects over all system setting is worth looking at.
I am not an expert. Do not forget to turn back on anything turned off to allow update

• Adobe acrobat add ons does not work with latest firefox

I have been using firefox because of my adobe acrobat add ons.. I alwasy convert pages to adobe pdf using my acrobat. It works with firefox 4.0 but it does not work anymore with latest firefox.
Can you help me with this?

Maybe if you read about privacy, policy and sharing of data you'd change your mind. But it was reported that it appeared to work if you used something like the "Add-ons Compatibility Reporter".
You can force 5.0 "compatibility" with the "Add-on Compatibility Reporter" extension, or with extensions.checkCompatibility using about:addons.

• Isqlplus with full connection description does not work in netscape/firefox

http://machine/isqlplus?userid="user/pass@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)(PORT=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=xxx)(SRVR=DEDICATED)))"
This works in IE, but fails in netscape and firefox with: SP2-0874: URL argument is missing a keyword
It looks like a URL encoding issue. Has anyone seen this and if so have you found a solution?

Thanks for the try, but that didn't help. Actually, without the full connection description it works in both browsers, i.e.
http://machine/isqlplus?userid=user/pass@servicename
does work in both. isqlplus under firefox appears to not like the encoding as:
http://machine/isqlplus?userid="user/pass@servicename"
this does not work under firefox. But with a full connect string it appears I need the quotes as without nether works.

• Why does my flash image viewer look different in firefox than in IE...

So I have created a horizontal spry bar that overlaps a flash image viewer slide show. When i load the page in IE everything works fine, but as soon as you open it in firefox it works improperly...you can hit refresh in firefox and sometimes it resizes the image I don't understand how that is possible....if you have any input it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

You need to be aware of the limitations of the various browsers and make sure you use web-safe fonts and colors.....
http://www.iwebformusicians.com/WebMusic/FontsandColors.html
Do a Command A on all your pages in iWeb to make sure that objects/text boxes are not touching or overlapping.
Firefox has problems with displaying drop shadows/frames etc.
To get help with specific issues you would need to tell us the URL of our site.

• History does not work correctly in Firefox when setting base tag?

It looks like there's a bug in history.js that makes Firefox work incorrectly with History when the <base> tag is set in the HTML that runs the Flex object.
We are not using the Flex-generated HTML, because of the way our application is built and one of the things that is different in the HTML that we run the Flex object in is the presence of the <base> tag.
The <base> tag is set in our case to http://www.ufxbank.com/fr, and the full URL of the page with Flex is http://www.ufxbank.com/fr/trading.aspx.
What happens is that the function setDefaultURL in history.js in its "if (browser.firefox || browser.opera)" part makes a call to "window.location.replace" with the value of "#", which in our case replaces the location to "http://www.ufxbank.com/fr/#", which brings a different page in the browser.
I had to replace the code in history.js to be "var newloc = window.location + "?#" + def;" instead of the original "var newloc = "#" + def;".
Does anyone has a better solution?
Is it a bug in the template that should be fixed?

When you say delete the index, I think you mean delete the
TOC?
This is a known problem with Firefox. You have books with
links to topics. If you remove those and have the required topic
immediately below the book, the problem will go away.

• Two finger scrolling does not work ONLY on Firefox

This just started today, suddenly my two finger scrolling doesn't work but only when I'm in Firefox, offline and on Safari and Chrome it's fine. Restarting Firefox only fixes it for a few minutes, then it stops working again. All of the suggestions I've found that I've tried haven't worked, please if anyone could help and also break it down fairly easily, I'd really appreciate it.

Does this happen in Safe Mode?
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
:
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
</blockquote>
The same issue happens on Firefox 35.0 running in safe mode, Mavericks 10.9.5, both with Magic Mouse and normal standard mouse...
It's unbeliaveble this issue is going on since more than one year ago, I can find people complaining about it since December 2013!
Oh, one more thing: I don't have a two finger swipe configuration, I have single finger swipe, so the actual problem is about scrolling the page in itself (considering I've tested it with a normal standard mouse as well....).

• Index does not work correctly in Firefox

I use WebHelp in Robohelp and had created my Index with the
index wizard. I recently had complaints about wrong topics opening
when using the index. This does not happen with content. I have not
looked closer at search to see if it is happening here.
When I went back to troubleshoot, I discovered that all the
links were correct. Further investigation showed that the problem
was only happening in Firefox not in IE. The problem also did not
occur all the time. I then realized that it was isolated to topics
within books or secondary level topics. The first time that you
click on a link that is a sublevel in your TOC it would go to the
main topic (book level). The breadcrumb only shows that level. But
the next time you would click on a link it would go one level
further (topic page level). So, if you clicked on the link twice,
the first time it would go to the level above and the second time
it would go to the correct level. (First click breadcrumb AA>BB
and the second click AA>BB>CC. The first click should take it
to the second example, not the first.) This only happens in Firfox.
I am viewing it in Firefox 3.0.1. Is there a work around for this?
I do not know how to correct it. The only solution I have is to
eliminate the index altogether which would not be fun since I also
have a custom created skin that includes the index that would need
to be redesigned.

• I am a web designer and I updated to firefox 19 and now my popups on my site does not work only in firefox 19. what has changed in firefox browser?

I have a popup banner and also popup links that I have for sign-in or request info on my site using JavaScript, It always worked fine until I updated to Firefox 19. On other browsers there are no issues.

If you use specific JavaScript libraries then make sure to use the latest versions.

• ScopeBox, does it work? More accurate than FCP scopes?

In the absence of real video scopes, how accurate is this? Or should I just stick to FCP scopes, which I know are not accurate....

So ScopeBox, better than FCP? I won't even launch Color, alas I cannot connect a broadcast monitor ...
I actually installed it, and after adjusting the color bars evaluated the footage... Is this how it works?
I export a movie from FCP then open it up with ScopeBox and evaluate what adjustments it needs, then make any necesary adjustments in FCP, then rinse and repeat?

• Font on Facebook looks different on Firefox than IE?

On IE, the font looks clearer, darker and smoother but on Firefox it looks bigger, fader and rigid. Why?
I previously fixed this problem by tweaking the about:config on Firefox. Changed the value of
gfx.font_rendering.cleartype_params.rendering_mode to 0.
But now it doesn't work anymore. I am using Windows 8 OS.
