Does iMessage work over 3G?

I believe iMessage works only on wi-fi between iOS5 devices, with both sides needing to be on a wi-fi network. Recently, I have sent and received texts when I know I have not been on wi-fi, but on my 3g Verizon network. The other side may or may not have been on wi-fi. The thing is: Both the sent and recieved messages show the blue color theme vs. the green as for regular texts.
Does iMessage REQUIRE 2-way wi-fi?
Are there situiations where iMessage will work over the cellular network?
If wi-fi IS rquired, why do I see the blue balloons?

It isn't fully clear to me whether or not NSU works through a proxy server. Some users say it does, others say it doesn't. I think NSU would only work through a proxy if the following conditions are met:
The proxy allows connection to the website where the Nokia service Updater gets its updates
The proxy allows such connection to take place over FTP (Active)
The proxy doesn't use "old" information for the Nokia site, even though that is fairly recent. The thing is, Proxies can sometimes interfere with connections to the NSU server. These interferences as well as the chance that they occur, need to be minimised. NSU seems to be using the settings for your default browser with regard to proxy severs, so if at all possible, try to temporarily bypass the proxy if connections to the Nokia domain are required. To achieve this, create a rule that bypasses the proxy for *.nokia.com on all protocols (HTTP, FTP, HTTPS and Secure FTP).
I cannot deny that Nokia Software Updater does sometimes work over proxy, although reports on this differ each time...

iMessage does work worldwide. As long as all users have an iPhone and add their email address on Messages, then it will function for free. Note that if your friend does not have iMessage, it will cost SMS/MMS charges by the carrier in World Traveler prices.

Yes, EAX supports 2 speakers. EAX is an extension to DirectSound3D, and basically uses reverberation to model the sound of a room. Thus, EAX is an easy way to say this room sounds like a stone-walled church in general. DS3D models the specific room, and computes from the various sound sources what happens at the observer's position. Then it attempts to compute what would happen at each observer's eardrum, and what the available speakers need to do to cause that. 2-speaker EAX is 3D, not 2D like "surround sound" really is, but it seems easier to place sound behind you if a speaker is there. How well 3D positional audio works varies among people.

Nokia 5800 - mfe does not work over wifi

Folks,
Am trying to use MFE to sync google calendar.
I 've created a profile and it works perfectly when I synch over WAP.
But the costs pinch me, so I tried synch'in over wi-fi, but this fails all the time with the error "unable to connect to server. Verify your connection settings and try again"
I have changed the connection profile to Internet. It just doesnt want to work over wifi.
please help!

I already have the default destination to internet.But it still doesnt give me the pop-up which asks me to choose the internet connection.
But under Settings>>Connectivity>>Destinations>>Internet, I have 2 access points.
Pri#1 - Vodafone Mobile connect
Pri#2 - my wi-fi access point.
Does this make any diff? Should I try flipping the priorities?

what can you tell me about using iphone 3Gs phones?
my wife and my mother both have these phones.
They are iOS 6.1.x
and messages is the GREEN app for regular SMS
I wish to help my mother and wife to use the iMessage service.
Like you said above I set them each up with an APPLE ID
But, I have not been able to teach the or download any iMessage app because that I think is for later phones.
Is this correct?

If not how can I work with the MESSAGES app and not use the CELLULAR SMS *(currently with us is AT&T ala carte which is like owning a payphone ....not good)

Iphone Carrier Disconnected - imessage works over wifi for 30 mins

My older Iphone 4 is now carrier disconnected, yet my imessage works to other ios users / I can send receive after a power cycle on imessage for 30 mins, after that any further attempts to txt are treated as SMS and of course fail, since thier is no carrier (3G etc)
Of course this iphone is connected on wifi as a means of networking (IP) must be established for imessage to work.
any ideas in Settings/messaging I still have my old phone number (greyed out) and unable to change and of course my apple recognized email account.

I have only ever found the iMessages to be sent when connected to WiFi
I will state though that I have a Pay as you Go contract and do not have Data On (on either of my iPhones)
On the Mac I would use the Sign Out button and then shut the App down, before restarting the app and Adding back the Apple ID.

No. It only works over WiFi.

Yes. Country doesn't matter, either for iMessages or Facetime. So long as you have a good Wi-Fi connection and the owner of the connection doesn't do any unusual site blocking, it should work just fine.

If it's an iPad 2 or later, then yes. Enable Airplay mirroring & Keynote will automatically play the presentation on the AppleTV

HT1688 iMessage does not work over At&T number

I am experiencing issues with iMessage. I turned off the feature on and off. My data is working properly, and I also tried working with ATT to get this working. Although I was successful sending myself xan iMesssage using my me.com email address.
Is anyone else having this issue with their iPhones?

We are having problems with iMessage both on iPhone and iPad. iPhone trying to send as text even to an email address, and in iPad the messages aren't being delivered. This was not happening earlier today. I was successfully iMessaging with someone several hours ago who I can no longer reach. I think there may be some system inconsistencies or outages going on here and there over the last few days, I don't know. So many people are reporting this problem.

.. can't get away with using data allowances. Usage is really negligible.
Before sending what you think is an iMessage, look out for the following:
1. Open Messaging or the iphone's app for SMS.
2. Start new message / new conversation.
3. In the To: key in your contact name/number.
4. If your SMS input field says "Text Message" (grayed out), then you will be sending a text message (SMS).
If the SMS input field says "iMessage", then be confident that the other person has its iMessage enabled and therefore you WILL be sending iMessage over.
5. Send message. Watch for blue bubble
Note: Both you and the other person must have iMessage enabled (Settings > Messages > iMessage = ON)
