Does iWeb automatically compress photos for faster loading? Or should I do it first? Thx

Hi everyone, when I look at the large photo in the "white" theme's Welcome template, I wonder when I drag and drop one of my photos in, does iWeb compress the photo for faster loading? Or should I compress them before adding to site?
By "compress" I mean, make photo file size smaller! :)
Thx! :)

In iWeb Preferences you can optimze images on import. But I always scale most of my images to 800 x 600 pixels prior to importing. I do this in Graphic Coverter which also makes the image files smaller by taking unneeded information out of the file, which also reduces the file size.

  • How to compress photo for website

    Hi,
    I have a website, but the loading is quite slow. So I am trying to compress the photos to reduce the loading time. Which method would you recommend to compress my photos so that they still look good but at the same time light in size?
    Thank you

    The standard technic is to save your photos for the web!!!!!

    I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of your question or configuration. If you are looking to automatically transfer or sync your photos between your devices, you may find the following information about iCloud Photo Library helpful:

  • Video Clips.  Embed them or link them for faster loading?

    Hello All,
    Which method is better for iWeb (making the website load faster): I need to show some short video clips on the site I'm building, so should I embed the clips or just have a link that will redirect you to the site the has the clips (a site like Vimeo.com). Or does that make any difference in the loading time>
    Thanks for your help.
    Mike

    I found the problem with the software. You can not use Acrobat Professional 7.0 with FrameMaker 8.0 or you will not be able to properly Distil the PDF and the video will only be an image of the first frame. You are not able to install the Distiller 8.0 add-on that comes with FrameMaker 8.0 with the Acrobat Professional 7.0 installed. The console error received when creating the PDF is:
    "Save as PDF failed to post-process the PDF file for Flash Data: errors were encountered in the PDF file.
    The PDF file should be intact and usable but may not reflow properly. Check that the destination PDF file is not in use or its permissions, then Save as PDF again. If the problem persists, please contact Adobe Technical Support."
    The fix is to remove Acrobat Professional 7.0 permanently and install the FrameMaker add-on or to upgrade to Professional 8.0

  • Can websites be optimized for faster loading?

    I have created a rather comprehensive website for nature, science and the environment in my region. I have tried to make it content rich with both text, links and photos for the broader, general population. I am,however, receiving complaints from about 25% of my subscribers that page load times are long, (sometimes very long) and that loading sometimes stops before continuing. A few of these say that pages won't load completely and one has said it has crashed his browser. Most others (75%) report absolutely no issues what-so-ever.
    The website can be found at: http://web.mac.com/rwolfert/NJNature_Notes_Website/FrontPage.html
    After questioning about 2 dozen readers, I have the feeling it has to do with the following (so far):
    1-browsers…IE is the slowest by far with Safari and Firefox best. Safari renders pages best.
    2-computer memory…I can't prove this yet but this seems a no-brainer. Anything less than 1 GB of memory is really not going to help with complex pages.
    3-processor speed…this too should be obvious…newer machines will handle complex pages better
    4-add-ons like drop shadows and reflections on images
    5-and possibly, too many images on a given page
    So, this leads to some questions about optimizing pages or an entire website.
    1-Does the website have TOO many drop shadows, and/or photos?
    2-Is there a way to optimize photos that have been resized so they are as small as they can be while not losing any screen resolution? I would imagine that when adding photos to a page that will play slideshows, that the images are automatically optimized for the page. But, images that are resized or masked on the page itself, are not. Is the answer here to process each of those kinds of images in iPhoto or Photoshop first, at the exact size? Would I have to set resolution in some way too?
    3-Do I really have to 'dumb down' the site's graphics (drop shadows, etc.) for people with older and slower computers, and the 'wrong' browser?
    Thanks for any help. I would really love to resolve this issue or, at least, give the complaining viewers an answer.
    Rich

    Something else I just thought of.
    If you have other computers available (windows, too), would you please try the website there to see if platform or older vs. new computers make a big difference, different amounts of memory and/or processor speed, as well.
    Note, I removed about 20 drop shadows and photo reflections from the Front Page of the website and I do seem to get about a 20% decrease in load time.
    Thank you very much.

  • Tuning OWB 10g Mappings for fast loading

    Hi,
    What are the various techniques in which I can tune my OWB mappings for optimized performance?
    Is it a good idea to increase my commit frequency from 1000 to say 25,000 to reduce I/O?
    What other parameters could be important to the fast loading of data?
    Thanks & Best Regards,
    Harshad Borgaonkar

    If you say loading, do you mean inserting?
    If so, I gather from the fact that for you the commit frequency is relevant, that you are not using set-based loading, which is the fastest way to load records. Any reason why you don't use set-based loading, or didn't you know that the commit frequency is irrelevant in that case?
    Kind regards,
    Jaap.

  • IPhoto had a auto import folder. does this exist in photos for mac?

    I used image capture to get the photos from my iPhone, so that iPhoto didn't open every time i plugged in. there was an auto import folder in iPhoto which i could dump my photos in, then when i did open iPhoto it would import everything in that folder. is there a folder that will import everything in that folder whenever Photos for Mac is opened?

    What does iPhoto do with photos as they are imported?
    What you tried was a very complicated and unsupported way to import from one iPhoto library to another.
    The safest way would have been either
    to use iPhoto Library Manager to export a new library from the old one
    or to export the original files using iPhoto and to import the exported files.
    But pasting the Masters folder into a temporary "Importing" folder put your photos at risk. The Importing folder is a temporary cache that will be emptied, when an Import has finished.
    It started to get very slow and sluggish, so I decided I would move the photos to a new library on the same drive.
    It would have probably sufficed to repair or to rebuild the library and safe all your edits and albums, instead of migrating the photos to a new library.
    Since you do not have a backup, and your Masters folder got erased, I recommend to stop using the drive with your library immediately and to try data recovery software, for example Disk Drill. It has a free trial mode.

  • IWeb 1.1 does NOT optimize site for faster loading

    I duplicated my iWeb site folder which at the time was 15Mb in size.
    I then updated iWeb to 1.1 and exported my site to a folder without making any changes to my site. I had heard somewhere that I would see a dialogbox asking if I want to update my site for the new improved loading times in iWeb 1.1. Didn't see any of that.
    Well I then looked at the newly exported folder and compared it with the old one. The old, as stated above, is 15Mb in size - the new "optimized" one is 16.3Mb
    How come? Is it once again only .Mac users that will see the full benifit of this update?
    Powerbook G4 1.5 Ghz, 15", 1,5Gb RAM, Radeon 9700 (128 Mb)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    I agree. I have images-as-graphics on all of my pages and in v1.1 they are still huge .png files converted from my original small .jpg files (eg .jpg original 90kb, iWeb converted .png 444kb). After downloading v1.1 I've only managed to get my site to upload once this evening to .Mac (and got the picture error message like everyone else) and now it won't publish at all. I've been experimenting with publishing to a folder and have turned off shadows, reflections, lines etc. The .jpg files are still converting to .png. The only ones that don't are the photo album thumbnails on the template photo page which stay as .jpgs.
    This is horrible. I'm building a little site with iWeb for a friend who is on dial up and it's embarrasing getting him to have to wait twenty minutes everytime he looks at an update.

  • Compressing photos for iWeb

    Ok, is it true that if I drag and drop my photos from iPhoto directly into iWeb they are not compressed at all!!!?? Is this why some of my pages load so slowly? I am about to start a new site and put about 30 photos directly from iPhoto into the first page. If what I said above is true, what is the quickest and most efficient way to compress. Can I do this after I import into iWeb, or possibly in iPhoto before I drag and drop into iWeb?
    Thanks!

    Hello Apnewbie...
    I'm not sure of what the upshot of your post was, but
    definitely do whatever you see fit based on your own
    experiments. I don't use the slideshow function or
    photo pages at all, so I can't really say for sure.
    I've just been hearing a lot about people with
    multi-GIGAbyte sized Domain files with a very large
    delta between Domain and published site folder sizes.
    I'm going out on a limb, but I'm postulating that
    this all has something to do with publishing errors
    or more likely Domain file corruption or increasing
    publishing times.
    This is all just my opinion and what works for me.
    I'm sure that if Apple wanted it this way, they
    would have told everyone to preprocess their images
    and the lot. But drag and drop is the mantra, so be
    it!
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
    James, I know just enough to know that what you and Apnewbie are talking about is serious but not enough to know to do anything about fixing whatever Tom fool thing I've done in the past with my large photos.
    What you said about increased publishing time struck a chime in my head. My publishing time is getting to be very long; I realize that "long" is subjective and that one might expect longer publishing times with more pages to publish, but still, I wonder whether I am not taxing my iWeb system with too-large photos.
    Ok, correction: Now I am taking more care about what I put on my pages, but a lot of photos went onto my pages dead bang huge, I mean, as huge as Montana, and then I whittled them down to my palate On The Page. So now I learn that the Domain file is married to my large photo files and won't let go. Get along little dogies! Aw! 8-(
    I did a Utility > Repair Permissions today and think I had better buy or download one of the two programs that two people here suggested I could use. At this point I do not want to lose my website because I haven't been practicing due diligence. I know that I have people's notes printed out and stuck in my folder, though.
    I also back up my Domain file frequently. The question I always ask myself is: Can I afford to lose the work I've just done? And the answer is the obvious. So I now have about 10 backups. Yes, sometimes I forget about doing it. Usually the times when I work until 4:00 AM and get out of bed again at 8 AM. One time Varkgirl woke up in Florida and told me to go to bed in California.
    So OPTIMIZER was one maintenance thing. Where can I get it? And Peelie suggested another program and then went off on a vacation with his family so I can't ask him.
    I just made a page for a manager of a southern style red white and blue rock group. It was fun! The Newbie had fun!
    OH: I discovered something. While trying to make a horizontal bar totally level on that page I ended up also re-positioning the counter box. I fully expected having to re-tweak the .js page after the Far-too-Long publishing process finished, but when I finally got to the page in Safari, THE MUSIC WAS STILL WORKING! But I believed that any kind of work on a page made it necessary to re-do the html/js file..... so....... although I am not complaining at all..... I am here to say that not always does one have to re-tweak. What happened to break the law of Re-Tweaking?

  • Compressing photos for the web

    I'm new to mac and iPhoto.
    When I bring in photos from my camera into iPhoto,
    their file size is way too big for emailing and the web.
    (over 1mb)
    is it possible to compress and edit photos in iPhoto?
    Or do i have to use another program such as Photoshop?
    thanks

    teresita
    If you're on a MBP then I'm going to guess that you're using iPhoto 6, not v5. (You've posted in the v5 forum).
    Select the pics you want to use and go File -> Export and in the resulting dialogue you have the option to resize the pics, among other options. Then complete the export to the desktop. iPhoto will make a copy of the pics with your changes on the desktop. You can use these for emailing and uploading. After they're used, you can trash them - they are only copies.
    If you're using Apple's Mail for email, you can resize the pics in the Mail window (look at the bottom right of the window. You can also create these emails from within iPhoto if you're using Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora.

  • How does the automatic compilation occur for 2 classes in the same package?

    Hi friends,
    This is my first file Base.java
    package Base;
    class Base {
    protected void amethod() {
    System.out.println("amethod");
    }This is my second file :
    package Class1;
    public class Class1 extends Base {
    public static void main(String argv[]) {
    Base b = new Base();
    b.amethod();
    }However even if I compile only Class1,why do I get the output as "amethod" ? I an not compiling Base class also with this.Do the files get automatically compiled if they are in the same package ?
    Thanks.

    Do the files get automatically compiled if they are in the same package ?No, but if the class you compile depends on another that's not yet been compiled (or for which the source is newer than the .class file), then it will be compiled as well.Like,say If i add a int parameter, amethod(int i),then I will get a error,isn't it ?It actually gives a error.
    Also it will compile automatically only for the first time and any changes made to any file will have to be compiled into latest .class files ?Yes.
    Did compile the files under the above constraints.
    So it is a smooth "run" for the first time,but not after editions to the either files.
    I would appreciate if experts give some feedback on this.
    Thank you.

  • How can I host my full-bleed images (such as browser fill) on a CDN (such as Amazon3) for fast load?

    Hey,
    I was wondering if anyone know how to use a Contenct Delivery Network (such as Amazon S3) to host large images on my Muse site so that they upload faster?
    Thanks

    Yes, you can add web hosted images to your site by clicking Object-> Insert HTML...
    and adding the <img src="" /> tag there:
    However, I do not know that this will increase your loading speed.
    Hope this helps,

  • Terminal command for fast loading of safari pages

    Hi,
    I am relatively new to the mac OS and I had seen a post on setting how soon safari displays a loading page. I guess that was the setting.
    Can someone pls help and let me know if there is anything such setting.
    Thanks
    Aditya

    Hi Aditya,
    Yes, you did the command correctly. I must have set my value in the past which is why it currently works for me. You are seeing an error as it hasn't been set yet.
    Quit Safari then try the second command to set a new value. Start up Safari to see if it feels any snappier to you. You'll need to quit Safari each time before trying to set a new value.
    Also, is such a setting available for the Camino browser?
    Yes, there is. Have a look at this page under the Speed up page rendering section: http://www.caminobrowser.org/support/hiddenprefs/
    Hope that helps.

  • Automatic TO Creation for Inventory loading

    Hi ,
    Is there any way to create Transfer Order for a material document with 561 movement type (With and without Handling Units ) ?
    I believe system doesn't create any TR for intial inventory upload  , is that also correct ?
    Regards
    Sandeep

    Dear Sandeep,
    You can configure to create the transfer requirement or transfer order creation for 561 movments also. under
    customizing path: SPRO --> Logistics Execution --> Warehouse management --> Interfaces --> Inventory Management --> Define Movement Types
    In case you want to do with HU management then there will be delivery gets created instead of material document.
    so naturally you can putaway or pick using the delivery document.
