Does Jit for Solaris works for linux?
Can i used JIT for Solaris under Linux platform? what are the implications and any problems that i can encounter. I need to know abt what kinda problems that could be encountered since the project will be used as a prototype for the main project.
OR is there a JIT for linux supported by SUN? i think i saw a link somewhere in java.sun.com that gave me the option of downloading JIT for linux but it said "Sun doesn't support it" beside it, so i didnt download it
thanks
we are using Linux 7.2 and Java 1.4OK, then you're using the HotSpot virtual machine.
How do I explain this as simply as possible? HotSpot has a "built-in JIT", in that it does not interpret the byte codes directly, but does so after translating snippets of byte code into native code. I.e. the VM IS the JIT.
There's no separate JIT you can use to "speed up HotSpot". And anyway, a JIT doesn't "compile" the code in any permanent way - it has to do the translation statically each time the program is loaded.
However, you do have a point - there have been several reports of a slowdown between JDK 1.3.1 and 1.4.0. 1.4.1 hasn't improved much. I'm waiting for 1.4.2.
Things you can try in the meantime:
* Download the full JDK, and use the "java -server" option to use the server VM. If you're running a server-type application (i.e. not a GUI), this might improve things.
* Profile the application using any of the available Java profiling tools (do a Google search - there are free and commercial profilers).
There are a thousand possible reasons why your application is slow - anything from excessive memory allocation to excessive locking to poorly chosen algorithms. A profiler may help you narrow things down a little.

Does Satellite A660-16M works with Linux?
I will buy Toshiba A660 16M, but i can't find information about working with linux. Does Toshiba A660 16M works with Linux?
I will use arch on it, but this is not important.
Sorry for my bad English, I am from Poland.Hi
You can install any software operating system.
The notebook would functions using Linux, Win2k, Win XP Vista Win 7 and others
But the question is; would you be able to find the Linux drivers for A660 16M.
Answer; No, Linux drivers are not listed on the Toshiba pages but since most drivers are a part of the Linux distribution, no special drivers are needed
However, if you would need any drivers for example; LAN, Wlan or graphic card then I would recommend searching on support pages of the chip manufacture.

Does labview for linux support 3D graphs?

No, the 3D graph in LabVIEW is an Active X control and therefore a
Widnows only feature. If the graphics are not to complicated you may try
to look into drawing your own 3D graphs into a picture control which
would work on any LabVIEW platform. Other than that you would have to
rely on external packages to do 3D graphics under Linux.

Sound in PDFs not playing - suse - latest Reader for linux (7.0.9?)
I have a pdf that has sound files incorporated into it somehow and I can't get them to play. I am using the latest available adobe reader for linux and I have suse linux, I forget what version but not too old. When I click on the link for the sound, absolutely nothing happens. I know it does work because it works at work on Vista. I am not sure whether there are actual sound files in there or if they are links to files on the internet. I suspect maybe they are links because it also will not work in windows XP with Reader 8 on a computer not connected to the internet. However, I have been able to find no information on this, so I don't have a clue.
Is sound in pdfs a Reader 8 only feature? Does it just not work in Linux? Is there any way to be able to listen to those audio clips? So you mean there is a release coming out that will solve my problem? Does anyone know when?
(The only thing I've found is stuff written in December last year saying they will release Reader 8 for linux/Unix soon. Soon has been and gone since then ;) ) -
I am looking for a driver PCI-6602 for LINUX. Does it exists?
Hello;
NI doesn't have drivers for DAQ devices and Linux, however, there is a Company that does drivers for Linux and our DAQ boards, named Comedi.
Comedi's link to their website is:

LabVIEW for Linux and hardware registers
Hi all,
I'm considering using LabVIEW for Linux in an upcoming project based around
PC/104. As the only way to communicate to the PC/104 module inputs is via
hardware addressing, I need to know whether it is possible to directly
address hardware in LabVIEW for Linux. If not can you suggest a way of doing
this? Also does LabVIEW for Linux and say RedHat make for a more stable
system than LabVIEW for Windows and Windows 2000/XP?
Thanks in advance.

Shane Broadbent

I know that you can address hardware in Labview for Linux: I do it with an NI6071e,k 6602 and 6503. I don't know specifically about the PC/104, but I imagine it can also be done.
Generally you can talk to the hardware registers using code interface nodes (CINs) in Labview. In the CIN you just use a 'write()' command. I don't think there's anything more to it than that. Creating the CINs is no trouble at all.
Don't know about stability of Labview with Linux compared to windows, all though others tell me stability is pretty much the same.
hope this helps and good luck! -

Does Oracle 8i for Linux include Oracle Enterprise Manager?

NO, it will not work. You cannot even install since the installer
for Solaris is a Solaris binary and some windows exe also does
not work. I guess somebody has to write a better bootstrap proggy
first...
I wonder why they did it that way...

Solaris 10 for Linux Administrators
I'm trying to decrease the slope of the Solaris 10 learning curve.
I've worked with Linux for many years, and I know it's quirks.
I'm very new to Solaris.
Does there exist a good resource written from the perspective of a Linux administrator who wants to learn to properly administer Solaris?Go to docs.sun.com
You will get lot of reading material. Both os are very similar , so you should not have any problem when you first work with solaris.
Caution : Dont assume all commands and switches will work on Solaris if it works on Linux. I spend hours to make cvs web working on Solaris. But it works with very less effort on red hat linux.
Best Luck.

FormsCentral PDFs not working for Linux and Unix users
I recently created a PDF (using Indesign > Acrobat IX Pro > Formscentral [AFC]) that includes radio buttons, form fields, linked videos set to play in the PDF once clicked and (after running through AFC) a submit button.
The form has been distributed and we have already had hundreds of successful responses collected in the AFC site, all is working well there.
One major problem we are having is that we have a lot of Linux/Unix users and the response from them is that they can't activate the videos, the form fields are out of kilter alignmentwise and the submit button does not work. Even when using the proper Adobe Acrobat Reader (v9, for example).
Is the Adobe development team aware of problems such as these for Linux/Unix platforms and is there a suggested fix that they know of?
The link to the actual file is here: http://cms.iopscience.iop.org/alfresco/d/d/workspace/SpacesStore/b5a48eac-8642-11e2-8cf8-e 50acbc9fd86/NJP-Video-Abstracts-Competition-2013.pdf
Thanks in advanceHi Jesse,
can you email me ([email protected]) the original PDF (before you imported it in FormsCentral)? Also, I'm curious about the format of the video in the PDF. Does the video in the PDF worked in Linux/Unix before going through the FormsCentral import/export?
When I look at your PDF on my Red Hat Entrprise Linux 6.0 system with Reader 9.5.4 it does look fine (location of the fields) but the video generate an error (which I'm still investigating). I have not yet try the submit button on your form (as I don't want to submit bad data to you) but I seem to have an issue with the submit button on other PDF forms I generated (when I try to submit from a linux machine). Still investigating that as well.

Labview 7 for Linux on Redhat9,NI example Finder not working.
I have Labview7 for Linux on Redhat9, installed at /usr/local/lv71. "NI example Finder" is not working, the function of browser, search, submit, none is working. When I try to close it, the window looks dead, cannot close it. I will force to close it. What is the problem? Where are the examples?
Another question: the simple help text is working, but the details help is not working. I can open the help file by Mozilla. But I want the help could be linked, like what it is in Windows platform.
ThanksHello
If whenever you type labview at the prompt, LabVIEW 7.1 is launched, it probably means that the paths are setup to launch 7.1 but it doesnt necessarily mean that you do not have LabVIEW 7.0 installed.
If you only installed LabVIEW 7.1 in that computer, it is possible that somebody else had installed LabVIEW 7.0 before.
What I suggest doing is to run the UNINSTALL scripts for both, LabVIEW 7.0 and 7.1, and reinstall LabVIEW 7.1 as root, not as user.
Hope that helps!

Does it exist a JDK 1.4.2 for Linux X86 64bit (not Itanium!!)
Hi Gurus,
I'm installing a NW7.0 on a Linux (x86_64).
As you know a JDK 1.4.2 needs to be in place before running sapinst.
However on SUN website there is no JDK for that type of machine. The itanium version doe snot work and if I installed a X86 (32bit) version I'm having problems with sapinst and requests a 64 version.
What I did is to download the JDK 1.5.0 for Linux x86_64 but I'm afraid that I may have later problems as the documentation just talks about 1.4.2.
How is it possible that the installation guide requests something that does not exist? Most probably I'm missing something.
Any help appreciated and points awarded.
Regards,
Alberto SabateFrank,
Thanks for your response. I have install it now and I'll try it tomorrow starting a new sapinst installation. I have such a headache after 14 hours of Linux that I can do it tonight. I'll get back to this tread tomorrow. Thanks.

Does Active directory support for linux/mac/ubuntu clients?
Hello everyone,
I am pretty new to Active directory and my company has few requirements which he need to achieve by implementing Microsoft Active directory. I tried reading some blogs/documents on google but was not able to get the clear understanding. So would request
you all to please help me in getting the correct answers.
1) Does AD supports linux/mac/ubuntu clients getting authenticated from it?
2) Does AD supports root/non-root privilege login which is like admin/non-admin rights in windows for linux/mac/ubuntu?
3) Does Password policy works well on linux/mac/ubuntu cleints?
4) Does AD support auto-loading application after successful login in linux/mac/ubuntu clients? For eg: Logging into jabber client as soon as user logins IN.
5) Can AD trace and log the authentication information for linux/mac/ubuntu clients?
6) Does AD support rules based login for linux/mac/ubuntu clients?
7) Do we have high availability in AD runing Active-Active?
8) can we push patched/security policies via AD on linux/mac/ubuntu clients?
9) Can we schedule crons for linux/mac/ubuntu clients via AD like we have task schedules set-up in Windows?
10) Can linux/mac/ubuntu cleints be included part of GPO?
11) Auto-backups or auto mapping of shared drives by AD on widnows/linux/mac/ubuntu cleints?
12) Can we capture licenses etc(Server management) thing in AD.
13) Does AD support communication over SSL.
14) Does AD supports SSO authentication for linux/mac/ubuntu clients?
Thanks guys in advance
Regards
SamWhile I cannot speak for mac clients, there is a labour intensive method that allows linux distros to be able to connect to AD in a windows environment. Take a look at
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.12.linux.aspx
for tips. Please note, it was designed with the Fedora/Red Hat Core in mind, but ubuntu distro's will also work, you just need the appropriate packages.
