Does JMS Requires a Application Server ?

Hello,
I came to know that JMS requires JMS Provider and JNDI Provider. I hope we need a Application server to host these providers. Or can i run JMS wihtout using Application Server ?
Thanks n regds
Raghu

You can use JMS independently from an application
server. For example you can have a look at ActiveMQ,
ArjunaMS, Sonic, Fiorano or Switch.MQI am sure Arnaud meant Swift MQ instead of Switch MQ. While your looking you could also consider our own offering, Nirvana. We have just released a new version.See http://www.my-channels.com/ for details.

  • JMS on Sun Application Server 9.0

    Using Netbeans 5.5 Beta and App Server 9.0 (Java EE 5).
    I'm interested in finding a very comprehensive tutorial on how to create a client application that posts and recieves messages from a message service.
    The Sun tutorial online takes me through a bit of confusion without explaining a lot of the basics beforehand. I have an "App Client Module", and I'm not entirely certain as to what that is.
    Is there some way I can just make a Swing application and enable some class in there to send & receive JMS messages on an application server? If so, how? If not, why not?
    When are messages purged from the JMS? Can you set an expiration? Can you write your clients in such a way that the messages are deleted upon receipt? I'm overall very confused and would like to see some better explanations that don't assume any knowledge on my behalf ;)

    So, I guess really what I'm asking then is - where does the integrity come from? Do the clients communicate directly with each other?
    What if I wanted to use MDBs? I'm trying to centralize the messaging process so that it doesn't have to be a direct connection between two programs. They simply have to know the server and any interested applications or beans can just reach in for the information...
    If I may quote:
    "All Message Queue messages travel from a message producer to a message consumer by way of a destination on a message broker. Message delivery is thus a two-stage process: the message is first delivered from the producer to the destination and later from the destination to the consumer. Physical destinations on the broker are created administratively by a Message Queue administrator, using the administration tools described in the Message Queue Administration Guide; the broker provides routing and delivery services for messages sent to such a destination."
    This tutorial still seems to operate on the basis that there is something in between two or more clients exchanging messages - unless I'm misreading.
    Sorry if this is frustrating at all :)

  • Read_image_file command does works on Linux application server

    Hello!
    I have a form with a new_form_instance Trigger I wrote the read_image_file trigger to read a GIF file in an image item.It works fine on windows XP(development machine).I copied the GIF file to the same location where my fmx files are there in Linux application server.I copied and compilied my fmb file in linux application server.No compilation error is there.But when I run form from Linux the form hangs and my read_image_file command is at new form instance Trigger.I have checked the case sensitivity of the file and the permission etc in Linux.In windows Development machine the form runs successfully.What could be the problem.Please help.......
    Jayashree

    For me, attempting the following:
      READ_IMAGE_FILE('bullet_ball_glass_blue.gif', 'GIF', 'IMAGE7');
    gives this error:
      FRM-47109: Cannot locate image file bullet_ball_glass_blue.gif
    Changing my command to:
      READ_IMAGE_FILE('bullet_ball_glass_blue.gif', 'URL', 'IMAGE7');
    loads the image successfully.
    If you truly are not getting an error message (mine appears in the status bar), then perhaps the file is being found, but the image format is not recognized or otherwise incompatible. Test this by loading one of the the images that load successfully into your iconic buttons. If that image loads successfully into your image item, fix the problem GIF image. (Recreate or open & resave with a graphics program, etc.)
    If this does not appear to be the problem, the only things I can think of are for you to confirm that, in formsweb.cfg:
      1. The archive_jini entry includes your image JAR
      2. If imageBase=DocumentBase, change to imageBase=codebase
    The second change may temporarily break your iconic buttons. This can be fixed by updating the buttons' Iconic Filename properties specifying only relative paths found within the JAR. Since my image is stored in the root of my JAR, no path need be specified. Had I placed my image in a subdirectory within my JAR, named images, my call would have to be changed to the following:
      READ_IMAGE_FILE('images/bullet_ball_glass_blue.gif', 'URL', 'IMAGE7');
    I'm not sure whether any of these suggestions will help, but since I had no problems, I suspect it's simply a matter of differing configurations. The two items that I listed are the only two likely differences I could think of.

    help

    Hi Pratap, Sumit,
    I did do the steps afresh now but still teh issue persists,
    1) Download the complete classes/oracle/apps/per folder to my local desktop myclasses/oracle/apps/per in Binary mode.
    2) In Jdeveloper i created a new OAF Workspace and Project and mentioned the default package as oracle.apps.per
    3) In myprojects/oracle/apps/per/selfservice/hierarchy/server i copied only the XML files (VO,View Link) from the server in Binary mode and the PG.xml from the database using the export batch program.
    4) Close and open Jdeveloper and you can see the PG.xml in webui folder and only the view object xml files in server folder. View Links do not show up eventhough they are available in the folder. Even the server.xml file which is available in the folder does not show up in Application Navigator.
    Please let me know if i have missed any step which you had mentioned.
    Thanks, Suresh

  • Jakarta Commons -- File Upload does not work with Application Server

    Hi ALl,
    I tried Jakarta Commons file upload. In the netbeans, I copied the common jar files "commons-io-1.2.jar" and "commons-fileupload-1.1.1.jar" in the
    netbeans-5.5\enterprise3\apache-tomcat-5.5.17\common\lib and set the class paths. It is working correctly when I compile and run from the netbeans. However, when I deployed in Sun Application Server PE 9.0, I am receiving the following errors. In Sun application I copied the above jars files to "C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\jre\lib\ext"..
    I have read in several postings that it does not work this way but could find any solution. Any idea will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi All,
    I solved this few minutes after I posted this question. Thought I should share with everybody, just in case some one else need it.
    I copied these three files in the folder C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\jre\lib\ext
    1. servelet-api.jar
    2. commons-io-1.2.jar
    3. commons-fileupload-1.1.1.jar
    No need to set any class path.
    Thanks

  • JDBC Resource require a Application Server Reboot?

    I am running Sun Application server and using netbeans to access a Postgresql database in a J2EE application.
    When i change the values in a JDBC Resource Connection pool (ether via a deploy deploy from Netbeans or manually on the server), they don't seem to take effect until the server is restarted?
    Is there a way to get these values used by the server wthout a reboot?
    Bryon

    Hi Bryon,
    Which version of App. Server are you using?
    This behaviour was there until App Server v 7.
    I tried setting (changing) the connection pool properties (max pool size, initial pool size, pool-resize quantity) with new version using GUI and able to see the refreshed values using asadmin "get" command.
    Can you specify the properties that you are trying to change?

  • Does BC4J needs an Application Server?

    Is it possible to use BC4J without an Application Server?

    Gabriel:
    If your client is HTML browser, you need an App Server (servlet container).
    If your client is not HTML, e.g., JClient, you can run in the local mode. In that case, you don't need App Server.
    Thanks.

  • Deploying JDeveloper(10.1.3) App to Application server (10.1.2)

    Hi there,
    I am experiencing a problem trying to run an application that I deployed:
    The application was developed in Jdeveloper and it includes the Struts framework.
    The deployment goes through successfully. However, when I try to run the application I get the following error: Cannot find ActionMappings or ActionFormBeans collection.
    In the Application server I see that there is a message stating:

    Does anyone know what I need to do to rectify this problem?

  • How to Intercept Http requests by Application Server plugin ?

    Hi all,
    My requirement of "Application Server plugin/filter" is to intercept all Httprequests coming to an
    Application Server instance (and not webserver), get the related information from the request, do whatever
    i want to do and then forward the request based on the info available in the request header to any webapplication or EAR deployed in the application server.
    I do not want to implement as a Servlet filter in a webapp. which is intrusive to the webapp.
    as we are aware, Servlet Filters can be attached to resources in a Web application and are configured in the web.xml file.
    I have tried out my requirements in Tomcat as follows, it works:
    In Tomcat, Valves are attached to a Tomcat container and are configured using a <Valve> element in the server.xml file.
    We have modified RequestDumperValve Filter ( source available) class extending Valve to intercept Http requests.
    I perform whatever i want to do in this custom Filter and then able to forward to the next valve in the valve chain of Tomcat container. I have Configured this valve in server.xml and it works fine.
    My queries are:
    1. Can i do it the same thing in SunONe application server or other IBM Websphere application server ?
    2. Do the commercial appservers expose their APIs ( e.g. like Valve in Tomcat ) such that i can implement an application server plugin ?
    i.e. Are there any such Filter classes available which will intercept the Http request processing pipleine
    in application server ( precisely, its web container )
    If so, can you pls provide pointers for SunONE application server and IBM Webpshere application server
    3. Is this against J2ee specs ?
    Appreciate if you can provide me any clues, tips, solutions, pointers regarding this problem.
    thanks and regards
    rajesh

    Thanks for the info, vbk.
    Actually we are looking filers not at the servlet level in a web application.
    We are looking ways for the filter to work at web container level across different web applications... That is whatever comes to the application server, should hit at this filter ,then we perform some processing, analysis and then continue for the correspnding web application
    thanks

  • Run Form in HTTPS or SSL mode without installing Application Server

    Hi all,
    I have installed Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Developer suite 10g in my PC (Window XP). Now I want to implement SSL or running forms in HTTPS mode instead HTTP and I don't want to install Application server.
    Any workaround is there to run Forms in HTTPS mode without installing Application server.
    Thanks,
    Omer

    Performance issue? How old is your hardware? I am running OAS 10.1.2.3 on a Server 2003 VM which basically consumes 512MB RAM and ludicrous amounts of CPU/IO.
    In any case: as said if you want to test SSL in a real life scenario then enabling SSL in OC4J is not what you want to do. In production the configuration is completely different, as there you would configure Apache to run your forms via SSL.
    What comes to my mind would be to install Apache 1.3 (this would be the version OAS 10.1.2 uses), configure mod_oc4j there and configure it with SSL. On the other hand this also isn't the configuration you have in production so this also is not exacly what you want.
    If you want to verify if your forms application will run via SSL then most certainly it will run without changing your sources. The only things you might have to change would be if you do HTTP Requests from the database to your application server via utl_http or from the client to the application server via java beans or via the java importer.
    But for tests I'd strongly recommend doing it via an application server installation, and not via developer suite.
    cheers

  • Does clustered MSDTC require Application Server role in Windows 2008 R2?

    I'm reviewing a windows 2008 R2 2-node Active/Passive cluster which has clustered MSDTC and SQL Server.   The strange thing is that Application Server role is not installed. I thought MSDTC requires Application Server role in order to be
    clustered.

    Hi Mark,
    I look into this more and it seems to me the Application Server role (at least for the Distributed Transactions area) is just another way to configure Distributed Transaction Coordinator instead of using the Component Services Administrative Tool.
    Also, the configuration has nothing to do with clustering.   So, MSDTC requires configuration regardless of clustering or not and the configuration can be done through Application Server role and/or Component Services Administrative Tool.
    Is my understanding correct?
    Thanks.

  • Client-cert auth impl in web.xml does not work in Oracle Application Server

    Hi,
    I am new to implementing security features on the web applications.. I have developed a new web service using jdev1012 and deployed in OAS 10.1.2. Its working fine according to the business requirements, but I am in need of implementing client-cert authentication to enable the web service available to only those who have client certificate.
    My server details are:
    Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2)
    Server certificate is in place and SSL mode have been already enabled.. able to access my web service through https://<mydomain.com>/myws/TreqWS as well able to see the WSDL file through https://<mydomain.com>/myws/TreqWS?WSDL.
    I tried to include the following in my web.xml file as part of implementing CLIENT-CERT authentication.
    <security-constraint>
    <display-name>SecurityConstraint</display-name>
    <web-resource-collection>
    <web-resource-name>WSCollection</web-resource-name>
    <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
    </web-resource-collection>
    <user-data-constraint>
    <transport-guarantee>CONFIDENTIAL</transport-guarantee>
    </user-data-constraint>
    </security-constraint>
    <login-config>
    <auth-method>CLIENT-CERT</auth-method>
    <realm-name>WSCollection</realm-name> <!-- am not sure about this realm-name and its purpose -->
    </login-config>
    It is not woking as expected, though I have restarted my oc4j container after including this content to the web.xml file. i.e, I am able to invoke the web service though my sample java client program, though I donot have client certificate/keystore.
    I believe I am missing something..Can anyone help me in this regard to implement CLIENT-CERT authentication successfully?
    Thanks,
    Ms

    to my web.xml. I even restarted the server. I still see doc and xsl in binary.
    Is there some other setting that needs to take place?
    I am using WL6.1 with fixpack 1.
    I can see the doc and excel files in the browser if I don't go through the weblogic
    server. That just confirms it's not my browser.

    If the following doesn't work , can you

  • Application Server Memory Requirements from 4.6C to ECC 6.0

    The projected physical memory increase for the Application servers from 46C to ECC6 appears to between 45% - 66%.  This is based on the delta notes 517085, 752532, 778774 and 901070.  It also appears from a presentation from Christian Oehler called "Transition and Upgrade to SAP ERP" to be the case.
    I cannot find anything in the above referenced SAP notes that indicates where this additional memory is consumed, so I'm concerned SAP is factoring in new functionality and/or JAVA stack in this.  Furthermore we have upgraded our HR system from 46C to ECC6 sometime ago and included JAVA and saw around a 20% memory increase.
    We are doing a strictly technical upgrade and are not turning on new functionality at this point (no JAVA stack), we are also not increasing user population.  Our Test Systems, which have production data volumes do not reflect any growth in this area,  but we are not stressing it with user load.
    Does anyone have an idea of what we could/should see given the nature of our upgrade?  We are preparing for a 25% increase in App server memory, but not for 50% plus.  We are not doing a sizing exercise since this is just a technical upgrade and the GLFU service has yet to start.
    If anyone has any insight into what should be expected or what they have seen for memory requirements from 4.6C to ECC 6.0 Application Server sit would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Mark,
    More memory is required because ECC 6.0 is much more huge system than 4.6C. If you are planning to increase server memory by 25% only, than you can see performance problems if system will be heavyly used. But it depends mainly on number of WP and active users. 25-50% more memory is required if you are not installing J2EE addin afterwards. If you are planning to convert the database to Unicode, than you will need an additional memory....
    It's not easy to say 25% will be enought or 50% is required, but I would suggest to go to 50% at least.
