Does Mail work on 10.4.11?

I'm trying to setup Mail on an eMac (PPC) runing 10.4.11. The setup seemed to work fine. I could send a message TO this account, but I could not compose and send messages FROM the account. It's a MobileMe account. Does Mail still work on PPC Macs running 10.4.11?

Most MobileMe features work with Tiger, but you must be running the latest version (currently version 10.4.11) and MobileMe features will still appear as .Mac. I did what you've told me, new account and manually copied my files from Time Machine. I had lots of permissions problems, but at the end, almost everything is in order... It seems it had to be with some of the Apple Preferences, but I can't be sure, as most of them were dumped to the trash can.
I still don't have my Mail Rules back, unfortunately, although I did goggled some. It is a pity, as I had around 30 or 40 of them, getting my mail in order to each of its mailboxes, but it is a small price as the rest doesn't show the before syntoms.

Mail 4.5 Message Encryption Does Not Work per Articles

Apple's various articles and help files on how to send encrypted mail do not work for my currently installed Mail 4.5 on my 10.6.8 OS;
"An Encrypt (closed lock) icon appears next to the Signed icon if you have a personal certificate for a recipient in your keychain; the icon indicates the message will be encrypted when you send it." This DOES NOT WORK.
I followed instructions to create certificates with Keychain Access on both sending and receiving MacBooks, imported each others certificates and set them to trust always per Apple instruction. But Mail 4.5 DOES NOT allow me to send an encrypted email message from an email address with a certificate in KeyChain Access to an email address in KayChain Access; the lock remains grayed out.
I'd appreciate some help (and it would be nice if the Apple articles were corrected also).

When I had this problem originally, I called Apple support. Their solution was to remove all the 'interesting' files from the Library/Mail folder (including the V2 folder and its files) and import all the mailboxes manually. This would have worked but taken an eternity (>50 mailboxes, >100,000 messages), plus recreating rules, etc.
So I started experimenting. The critical files that made Mail not start up correctly were the SmartMailboxes plists (SmartMailboxes.plist, VersionedSmartMailboxes.plist). I deleted them (and their backups) and Mail started up OK. I put them back, Mail failed to start up. (Tried all that after Mail had transitioned all the old mail to V2 but hadn't successfully started up.)
So I cleared my Mail folder, reinstalled it from backup, removed SmartMailbox plists, and started up Mail. Imported everything just fine (except the old MailTags plugin of course), started up normally. Very Happy now.

Paldeng, thanks for the suggestion. I've done all that. I can connect to the server, but apparently they are not recognizing my ID and password. I can use the server program if I don't go through Mail (using the same ID and password). My mother in another state with another provider has had the same email issue, as also my husband on his laptop who uses the same internet connection I do. His worked fine until we had it repaired at the Apple store and all the original programs reloaded (with the required updates, I assume). We can receive email in Mail, we just cannot send.
I contacted my service provider, and we went over my connections. They said it was not their problem and connected me with Apple, resulting in a charge to me because my warranty is long expired. Apple swears it is not their problem, it is the provider, so here I sit. My son was able to fix my Mom's Mail (she's 97) and got my husband's working also, until mine went out, by tweaking connection descriptions and ports remotely. The thing is, we had not messed with any of those settings, so what changed? I just did not want to bother my son again, as he has many other demands on his time.
Since this fiasco with the Mail v4.6 update, I'm wondering if something else was updated that works well with Lion and Mountain Lion, but does not work well with Snow Leopard and Leopard. I think the problem I had with the Mail update was that my Mail program had been renamed to Mail (original), and therefore was not being recognized by the update. Perhaps they had another tweak in there somewhere that is affecting outgoing mail connections?

In OS Yosemite the search function in Mail, Finder, Spotlight… does not work. Messages or documents with the search criteria are there and one could find them manually, but the search function fails to find them. Following advice from Apple Support (728965377):
1. I applied an Apple protocol for adware removal (Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac); I had none, because I had formally utilized a similar protocol that I had found in Internet, actually an app that implemented automatically Apple's adware removal protocol.
2. I rebuild the post boxes in Mail (Mail (Yosemite): Reconstruir buzones); It took a while but it functioned properly
3. I re-install the System (OS X Yosemite: Reinstalar OS X); It took about 4 hours but there was no problem whatsoever with the installation.
Afterwards I searched for messages in Mail, and documents in Finder and Spotlight, without any difficulty. The search function in all of them was working properly. But the next time that I needed to search messages or documents, an hour later or so, the problem reappear and a couple of new issues occurred:
1. in app RagTime 6.5.2 (Build 1821), www.ragtime.de, the menu bar disappears (it is invisible), when one performs certain operations, e. g., calculating a value with a formula, whether it is in a spreadsheet or some other component (text, drawing, etc.). After touching with the cursor the menu bar is visible again.
2. after reading an e-mail in Mail or copying an address, this is seeing as a floating object in the finder and over every application. There is no logical way to get rid of the floating object and neither copying or deleting or cutting it. It is not a big issue but nonetheless bothersome.
3. In Mail, messages with Flag or in VIP contacts cannot be seen in the appropriate folders, only in the Incoming mail folder, together with other messages. It seems to me, this issue is part of same search function problem.
4. The preview function within Mail does not show the attached documents to a message, whether it is in the IN, OUT or Draft boxes.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try again to re-index Spotlight. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Yeah this was my first time connecting my phone to the computer since I went to iOS 5.0 and iCloud, so I wasn't familiar with the fact that it did not automatically create a backup on iTunes during the Sync process. Should have right-clicked on the phone device and did a manual backup.
But still, after restoring the backup from iCloud, I don't understand why data from certain apps got hosed (anything before October 2011, which was my last iTunes backup), while other apps' data appears to be fully intact.

Mail does not work properly with gmail

Hi everyone. I am a very recent switcher and the switching process was great and extremely easy, but there has only been one problem that I can't seem to solve. Getting Gmail to work with Apple Mail. I followed all the steps on gmail's website on, how to set up gmail for POP, and how to configure Apple Mail to work with gmail, but I still can't get it to download all my emails. It only downloads some old emails, marks them all as unread, and then doesn't act like I have any other emails(which I do). Under system preferences, I have the account type labeled as POP, the incoming mail server set to pop.gmail.com, my username and password set, and the smtp box set to smtp.gmail.com. Under server settings I have the server port at 587, the ssl box checked and the outgoing mail server as stmp.gmail, like I said before. Under the advanced tab of the accounts section of apple mail preferences, I have the account enable box checked, the include when automatically checking for new mail box checked, and down at the bottom, I have the port set at 995 with the ssl box checked. In gmail, under my forwarding and POP settings, I have it set, under the POP download section to: Enable POP for all mail(even mail that's already been downloaded). Also, the status is set to "POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since 10/13/05(which was when i first got my gmail account). Like I said before, Apple Mail at first starting downloading all the mail in my gmail account and then stopped after about 1000 to 2000 messages which only got it to about mid-2006 or earlier. Yes, I've run software update recently, too. Does anyone know why it would not dowload the rest of my mail? All help is very greaty appreciated. Thanks.

I just put my gmail account in Apple Mail and it works fine - even transferring my old gmail messages. Maybe your problem is STORAGE - see this from Mail Help:

Sending by mail an Invoice with VF02 does not work

Hi guys,
When using VF02 to send by mail an invoce form, the functional consultant is in trouble since it does not work. I am ABAP consultant, and before starting to debug the huge amount of lines of code behind this transaction, I think there might be a more straight solution. When setting the invoice number and entering this transaction, we accessed Goto->Header->Output. The output table to enter our fields appears. Here we set ZXXX as output type and External send like the Medium. When I press enter, the line is automatically filled with the rest of fields. Then we go to Further Data and choose the Send Immediatelly (when saving the application) option. Get back and press Save button. After it, a message "Please enter a communication strategy" is shown and the SD consultant told me that the correct option is MAIL (in fact, this option is part of the F4 help, with "email" as descriptive text) in the Communication strategy field. She told me it should be all to send a mail with the invoice. We did not fill the Logical destination nor checked "Print immediatelly" or "Release after output" checkboxes since they are not useful in this case. So when finally Save button is pressed, a message appears: " ", and then a dialog box appears with the following message: " Express document "Update was terminated" received from author "GILBERTO PARGA"". The mail received in my inbox is only a error message with title "Update was terminated" and the content is the following:

The system is SAP ECC 6.0. Note that the message indicates no output device was defined, but since we are using email instead of print output, it does not matter. I have filled the field with the same result. I have read from Internet it could be a configuration trouble (the SD consultant checked it before, according herself) or even a Basis issue. Anyway, do you know the possible causes and possible solutions (like OSS Notes) for this trouble? The print output works fine, by the way. Thank you all for your help.

If you maintain method EXTERNAL SEND then in communication method you have to specify Communication strategy as CS01(Internet/letter)
If you maintain method simple mail then in communication method you have to maintain RECIPIENT and RECIPIENT TYPE
Also check the number range assignment for billing type for error "Update was terminated"
you might be assigned numbers which are already consumed.

Why does mail stop working when it has worked fine for years?

OK, thank you. I use apple for e-mail. I have an @me address and I have long subscribed to mobile me, which has recently become icloud. Yesterday the @me mail account appeared to stop recognizing my e-mail password for my primary mail account on my two imacs but not on my ipad. The most recent e-mail I have received on my imacs is 7:16am yesterday, but I know from my ipad that I have received numerous e-mails since then. I have other mail accounts, including one for the school where I teach. I am receiving e-mail on the school account ok.
I made no changes to my password or otherwise for my primary mail account any time recently. I also still have my @mac address.
Generally, I do not understand icloud. I do not understand how to sync information across computers.
When I go to preferences in mail and I click and accounts and account information, I do not understand anything that I see there. When I try to re-type my password, there seems to be no way to save it except to switch to another mail account. I know from past experience that if I attempt to fix whatever might be wrong with mail I do not know what I am doing.
Any information would be helpful. Thank you.
