Does ODSI handle stale database connections?

When a connection becomes stale, does ODSI automatically refresh it? Or is there any setting that needs to be done in console by which the weblogic server renews the connection when it goes stale?
Edited by: user1055961 on Aug 20, 2010 1:28 AM

Beyond stale database connections, there are any number of reason that a query might fail. For this reason, your client application should catch the exception and then determine if it should retry. This will permit any failure that could be recovered to be recovered. For instance, if one of your (clustered) ODSI servers becomes disconnected from the network, or goes down, a retry from the client would result in the query being sent to a different ODSI server.
To answer your question directly - no, ODSI itself does not automatically retry on database or any other failures. Setting the underlying connection pool to "test on reserve" should handle that.

  • Stale Database Connections in Production Environment - Oracle 9.0.4.1

    Every so often we encounter stale database connections in our connection pools. To us, this should not happen, as the connections should be refreshed, if idle, every so often.
    Please see the data-sources entry below for an example connection pool. They are all pretty much the same. We have a retry-interval and inactivity-timeout specified!
    Are we missing something obvious.. Any help at all on this would be much appreciated as this is an ongoing issue in a real-time CRM type application currently running in Production.
    Cheers in advance.

  • Where does Omniportlet  keep it's database connection information?

    Where in the infrastructure database does Omniportlet keep the database connections it asks for when setting up an SQL query? Occasionally we clone our production portal into our development portal and I'd like to programatically change what SID my omniportlet connections are pointing at in Dev.

    I'm looking for the same thing, did you ever get an answer?

    Hi Marcelo,
    Sorry about that, I had a lapse of focus.  You are right that this is unlikely to be a Microsoft problem.  However, it still looks like it is an issue with the ODBC drivers.  Searching google I've found people encountering the same error in Python:
    http://groups.google.com/group/mailing.database.myodbc/browse_thread/thread/635e32bd80aefb88/e4b7659...)
    and more
    http://groups.google.com/group/mailing.database.myodbc/browse_thread/thread/406ef72aab160032/5e9ed45....
    The easiest thing may be to check for this error and try to handle it in LabVIEW (perhaps just clear it and redo the database operation).

  • How does FCP handle 23.98 DV Files?

    Hi All,
    Has anyone Edited using the DV-NTSC 24P (23.98fps) Easy Setup?
    1) How does FCP handle this video connected to a DV Converter Box like the Canopus ADVC-110?
    2) Does it actually play at 23.98fps on a monitor connected to the DV Converter Box?
    3) Does it get converted to 29.97fps somewhere in the process before it gets displayed?
    4) is it displayed at 29.97fps or is it really being displayed at 23.98fps?
    these are things that I am not sure of.
    sorry if I posted this message a couple of times. I didn't know that hitting the "Tab" Button posts the message, I thought it would just function like the Tab in a normal Text editor and indent a line. But here it doesn't.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the feed back. I guess I should fill in the caps a little.
    *DESCRIPTION OF ISSUE:*
    One of our main Clients Disney, is migrating to a Tapeless Workflow based on ProRes HQ 422 @ 23.98fps. From here on out, they will only send us ProRes HQ 422 1920x1080 files @ 23.98fps and they want us to Edit every project we work on for them @ 23.98fps. At the moment, it doesn't sound like they care if we Edit our projects in ProRes HD or some SD format, but the important thing to them is that we edit @ 23.98fps.
    PROBLEM:
    Our facility doesn't have the infrastructure to support 25 machines accessing ProRes HQ 422 files. Our facility was built to support DV NTSC @ 29.97fps and we have been working this way fairly well, for a number of years.
    SOLUTION:
    I am trying to find a way to continue to us our current equipment and satisfy Disney's request to work on all their projects at 23.98fps, starting from 1920x1080 ProRes HQ 422 files @ 23.98fps. So, it was my hope to be able to take the 23.98fps ProRes files and export them to 23.98fps DV NTSC. This way we wouldn't have to reconfigure our entire Facility (which would cost a couple hundred Thousand dollars).
    My approach was to:
    1) Use Media Manager to render a new DV NTSC file at 23.98fps, which it does pretty well for the most part. It keeps the Timecode consistent between the two files (very important), but doesn't allow you to Letterbox the 16x9 video in the 4x3 frame, it just stretches it to fill the entire 4x3 frame (not so good).
    2) Then import the newly created DV NTSC 23.98fps file into a FCP Project based on the DV NTSC 24(p) 23.98fps EASY SETUP. Which works well. No problems there.
    3) Then Play the file in FCP out through a Firewire based Canopus ADVC-110 DV Converter connected to a SD Sony Monitor. This seemed to worked fine also.
    The fact that it plays is great!!!! But, that brings up the question, is it really playing a 23.98fps?
    My understanding of Standard Definition and specifically DV NTSC, is that it can only be displayed at 29.97fps, it doesn't support 23.98fps natively. So the fact that it played when I tested it got me thinking that I may be missing something here and DV NTSC and other SD equipment (like the Sony SD Monitor) can playback/support 23.98fps SD video. But that goes against everything I know up to this point!!!
    Have I been wrong all this time?
    1) Can SD Video and DV NTSC Video be displayed at 23.98fps?
    2) Or is it getting converted to 29.97fps somewhere in the process before it is getting displayed?
    3) If it is getting converted back to 29.97fps, then where is it getting converted, FCP or in the DV Converter Box?
    I am sorry I went a little long on this email, but it is a problem that will have great influence on they way we work for a couple of years to come!!
    Thanks for your input!!

    Hello Pramod,
    >>I have an application in which windows handle count keeps increasing
    If the windows handle(I assume you mean the object handles in Taks Manager bar) keeps increasing, it should means that the project keeps allocating new objects and does not close/dispose them. I notice that you are using ADO.NET API, I am wondering how you
    manage these connections, do you close/dispose the connection immediately after using them? If not, please do it and it is recommended.
    Please check if you call method to close/dispose connections in a finalize method, if so, this is not recommended since in a finalize method, these connections object would still keep alive and does not return to the connection pool, and for new connection
    request, application might increase more connection number to meet the request.
    You could make a test to call GC.Collect() to test if there is a memory leak, if it has, you could check this
    article, or it could be also a handle leak, this
    blog might be helpful for it.

  • When the time of database connection got ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID

    Test failed: Listener refused the connection with the following error:
    ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor

    The error means it is connecting to a server with Oracle on it but it does not know of a database with the SID you have supplied.
    You say "Test failed" - are you talking about the Create Database Connection dialog?
    If so then check the values in the Host Name and SID boxes. If you have a DBA then verify these are the correct values (also check the listener port with him/her, normally 1521).
    Is your SID just a single word or with dots e.g. of the form mydb.mycompany.world? If the latter then try using the Service Name rather than the SID.

  • Unable to open database connection after applicaiton is running for several days.

    Has anyone experienced a similar error to this:
    After about 3 days of use our application starts to report errors opening
    the database connection. By that time we've had thousands of transactions
    happen. Oracle is only showing a few open connections to our iAS host so
    the error seems to indicate the connection pool. I'm configured for 64
    connections (the default). We are using the Oracle native driver on iAS
    SP3, Solaris.
    The iAS ksvradmin monitor gives errors when trying to see how many open
    connections it has (verified bug in SP3), so I can't get any info from iAS
    on the connection pool.
    Thanks in advance,

    iAS6 SP3 and earlier cannot detect dead connections. If connections become
    stale, iAS does not detect this and will hand out these stale connections.
    I don't know enough about your problem, but you can check for this.
    hope this helps,

  • Database connection to MS SQL 2005 (URGENT Help Needed)

    Hi all,
    Does anyone know how to connect my adobe form to MS SQL 2005?
    I have this code:
    try {
         InitialContext initialContext = new InitialContext ();
         DataSource dataSource = (DataSource) initialContext.lookup ("jdbc/MyAlias");
          java.sql.Connection connection = dataSource.getConnection ();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
         // handle exception
    } catch (NamingException e) {
    // handle exception
    Other than these, what else do i need to do inorder to get my database connection up?
    And after my database connection is up, how do i test to check if my database connection is up or not?
    How do i extract the information from the database and put them onto the textfields/dropdownlists on my form?
    Thanks In Advance

    Hi Mel,
    After implementing the codes and modifying them, some of them are underlined, why is this so? =X
    Or are u willing to exchange msn so i could send u the screenshot instead?
    Thanks In Advance
    (Sorry im not that good in this)
    (I shall underline the areas which represents the red underline in my web dynpro)
         //Code for database connection.

  • Infinite loop - A stale JDBC connection was detected in the connection pool

    Hello.
    I have a simple JSP (no servlets) application with a single Fastlane Reader style view object to back it up. I'm deploying my application under OC4J 10g 9.0.4 using BC4J 9.0.3.11.50 (JDev 9.0.3.3) on RHEL 3.0, j2sdk1.4.2_03.
    I run with -Djbo.debugoutput=console
    Every so often, intermittently, and totally unpredictably, I see this on stdout for OC4J:
    03/12/23 07:42:07 [33326] A stale JDBC connection was detected in the connection pool
    03/12/23 07:42:07 [33327] Creating a new pool resource
    03/12/23 07:42:07 [33328] Trying connection/2: url='jdbc:oracle:thin:@somedb:1521:somedbsid' info='{user=someuser, password=somepass, dll=ocijdbc9, protocol=thin}' ...
    This message occurs over and over ultimately resulting in hundreds upon thousands of failed connections to the database. I have to forcibly restart OC4J to stop it.
    The weird thing about it is that it seems to only start doing this on one system (which is our internal deployment site); it works fine under an OC4J running in IDE or on a preproduction machine.
    Has anyone experienced this before - or at the very least, can clue me in on getting BC4J to be a little more verbose on the connection failure?
    Thanks and Happy Holidays,
    Sean
