Does Prompts Hit Cache

Hi,
I found an interesting (at least for me) case regarding OBIEE Prompts.
Earlier: We were using a dimension let’s say : Department in our RPD and hence dashboards. Later due to SCD type2 and other backend problems we had to create a new Table and then Dimension called Department_T2 in RPD and we replaced Department with Department_T2 in all our reports and prompts.
But, we could not DELETE or REMOVE (old) Department from RPD (BMM and Presentation) because some reports (beyond our control) were using them so we just kept it and did not use it.
In each dimensions (Department and Department_T2) we have a column "Account Name". Name(s) in all the 3 layers of RPD is same but of course backend table and column is completely different.
Now, our reports were showing correct data. Let’s say there is a "Account Name" : XYZ. I can see it in my reports when I leave the MultiSelect Prompt blank (means 'All').
BUT, surprisingly I cannot See XYZ in MultiSelect Prompt 'Choices Returned’, when I try to use prompt to apply filters.
I checked the result 'Choices Returned' they were coming from OLD Department."Account Name" dimension column where XYZ is not there. Now, I checked Prompt Fx its Department_T2."Account Name" so everything was right.
Then I tried running same RPD on a different/test server, there prompts displayed correct 'Choices Returned', so apparently there was some issue with cache and not with RPD. So I tried Call SAPurgeAllCache(); in "Issue SQL" option.
After that I could see correct results in my main server reports.
My question is:
How do prompts behave in terms of cache. I did the changes at least 2 week ago then how come prompts where fetching data from old table and not new.
Also I think it’s misleading because I guess when we talk or read about obiee cache we talk in terms of querys fired to fetch data in reports. Doesn’t a prompt should follow or use same cache. I above case clearly prompts were using some sort of different cache then query/reports as data was correct in reports.
If possible please try in explaining “Prompt’s Cache” management
Thanks

Ηello,
Yes i faced the same issue, but slightly different. I have created a prompt from a table lets say x on cloumn x1.
now I used to do a multiselect first time it pull the data from server. Now i have constrain something in table. so i Put the where clause condition in LTS. after that when i tested the same prompt it shows the same result, because it was hitting cache. Then I delted cache from my dev envt and tried again and it shows the correct result. So according to me it hit the cache.

  • Does the Browser cach the jnlp-file?

I have a problem, I think with the browser's caching. As I modify the *.jnlp-File, the old version is loaded, not the new one!
Or is the old version cached by the webStart-Caching-Mechanism?
To update the jnlp-file, sometimes it is helpful to clear the Clients webStart cache.
    Is that correct?
    regards,
    ulli

The browser does in fact cache the jnlp and it can be a real problem. If there is no expiration on the JNLP then the browser may load it from cache instead of going to your web server on the next access. This means you may have modified your JNLP on the server for a new release, but users can start your application WITHOUT GETTING THE LATEST JNLP!
You can solve this problem by serving the JNLP file from your own servlet (or other HTTP serving technique) and setting the expire header. Setting it to 0 does the right thing.
Do NOT however, set "Pragma", "no-cache". no-cache stops the browser from writing the JNLP to the file system...this in turn causes a problem when Web Start tries to find the jnlp file after the browser starts Web Start....the jnlp file is not there.
Note that the JnlpDowloadServlet provided by Sun in the Web Start developers kit does NOT expire the JNLP file...you must fix this code yourself if you want it to work correcly. Sun was supposed to make this source code available but I can't find it anywhere. We used a de-compiler to de-compile the code, fix it and re-jar it.

  • What exactly does clearing your cache do?

There seems to be a bit of uncertainity going on in Yahoo answers as to whether clearing your flash player cache makes you lose everything in your games..(levels, items, etc.) Someone says they click on "delete all sites" (on the global settings manager) and it makes their games run more smoothly. Somebody else says it will delete ALL info in EVERY game you are playing. Why would anybody want to do that? Does clearing your cache make any game run faster?

    Hi,
I don't think that clearing the player's cache will have any noticeable impact on game performance, but I might be wrong. Anyhow, clearing the cache does in fact delete all game info that was stored locally. This might not mean, however, that you will automatically loose all your game stats as these might be saved on the server. It all depends on the game developer, but I'd say that all games that require some sort of login will store the game information online and there's a number of reasons to do that, cache clearing being just one of them. For casual games that don't require a login, it's pretty sure that all game info is stored locally and will be deleted by clearing the cache.
    Hope this helps.
    Best,
    Rui

  • Does Media Player cache http streams locally?

    Hi,
I am developing a secure video playback system. I am planning to load encrypted data, decrypt it and present it from a http server. This would be read by the media player using http progressive download. The security is lost if the media player stores the stream locally. Any help on finding out where the media player might store data if it does? If I use rtsp, will it solve the problem?
    Regards,
    Arun

On my Linux system, I played a JavaFX program designed to read media from http. Then I used the command line to print a list of all file descriptors in use. None of the file descriptors being used by the JavaFX program looked caching related, but I am honestly not sure whether or not it does in fact cache.
Since the documentation doesn't say anything, whether or not it caches and how it does so may very well be OS specific. As such, figuring out whether there even IS a problem, let alone how to solve it would be very tricky.
Even if it does cache, you'll still be about as safe as it gets. The vast majority of the population won't have a clue how to steal your video.
As for hackers, they probably have better things to do with their time and there isn't much you can do to stop them (short of not placing the film online in the first place of course!). Even if a hacker can't find a video cache, they could still decompile your program to figure out where the media is being downloaded, which would make the caching issue irrelevant. And even if you made it difficult to read the URL from a decompiler, there is nothing you can do to prevent them from just filming the screen.

  • Does the portal cache worksets?

    Hello,
    I have a simple question (I think )
Does EP 6 cache portions of the content on the server?
For example, I change the name of a visible workset in ESS, yet the change doesn't show up in the user browser.
I have an uneasy sense that I'm doing something wrong, but I can't quite see what (I checked Delta connections, ESS entries, ...).
If cached, is there a way to refresh cached content without restarting J2EE?
    Thank you.

    Hi Colleen Harmon,
This problem which you are facing has been described as:
Suppose you have created a role & workset in English language (portal language is selected as English). After sometime, you need to change the Name/desc of the workset. But while changing it happens that your portal language is selected as English (US) or something else but not the Original language in which the object was build. So when u change the Name of Workset, it happens that the language properties file of default & english does not gets changed and only the english (US) file gets changed. So if you check the Wrorkset name in its default craeted language, it will show the old name and if you change the Portal Language to Eng (US), it will show the new name.
This problem is actually mentioned as a feature by SAP and not problem.
We have seen this every times in our developement for worksets & roles. This is not applicable for iViews and pages.
So to make sure that this feature does not bugs you, make sure that every developer in your team has set their default portal language as English.
To solve your existing problems (features), you will have to Language Transport them..
Hope this helps you in finding the exact reason for your problem

    Hi,
May be this exit is not called for your scenario or the condition to trigger that exit may not have met.
Just activate your SQL Trace and then run MIRO. Just check in the tace log whether your exit is called. Else you may use another one.

  • How does the hit counter work?

    hi
a while ago i made a web site with a hit counter on it
i wrote the hit counter using php and a flat text file to store the number of hits
i experienced a number of problems
    1. if someone visited the site more than once, the hit counter would go up each time they visited. this is not really desired as i really only want to know how many unique hits i get
    2. web bots and web crawlers would also make the counter go up
does the hit counter that iweb generates suffer from this problem?
how does it work - from total hits or only unique hits?
does anyone know it web crawlers effect the counter?
    thanks!

It is a hit counter and will register even when you visit the website.
I found this annoying, so I ditched the iWeb hit counter and went to Bravenet and downloaded a visit counter instead. You can customise your design and can have a visit counter instead of a hit counter and you can also set it to ignore your own hits - so if you want to visit your site to see how it looks it won't register your hit. The hit counter will register each time and for every page, whereas a visit counter will just register the visit to the first page and then thats it. If you use Bravenet it will give you stats too.
I am sure you can get hit counters and visit counters from lots of other sources though.

  • How does apple TV cache content, + use with imac

I am thinking about buying an apple TV, but have some questions
-does the Apple TV only stream content in real time, or can it store content e.g If I want to watch a film with the family, can I download the full film to the apple tv in advance, or does it just stream in real time, with a buffer? I am slightly concerned about internet issues interrupting a film.
-If I have an Itunes rental film on an Imac, I understand the Apple TV will stream it. Wont the film be the wrong size if its on the Imac e.g formatted for the Imac, but not a 720P TV? Will there be some loss of quality?

Yes, the ATV2 only streams. It has an 8gb cache that stores the film as you watch it but you cannot use it as a hard-drive.
I believe you can rent HD movies on the computer, albeit a more limited selection. Even so you won't have any format issues.

The variable DISABLE_CACHE_HIT is used to enable or disable Oracle BI Server result cache hits and not the presentation server cache. So the behavior seems to be correct. You can manage the presentation server cache settings in hte instanceconfig.xml file. Refer to the documentation below to understand the parameters you can configure: ( http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/bi.1111/e10541/querycaching.htm#i1218900 )

  • Bridge update does not fix caching problems.

    Dear Adobe,
The 5.0.1.23 update for Bridge CS6 does NOT fix the problem of constantly re-caching layered TIF files.
I originaly reported the problem here on May 16, 2012.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1007560
At that time I also submitted a bug report via photoshop.com, and received an e-mail response from Adobe support confirming the problem had been replicated in their lab and promising a fix in the next update.
I've since tracked several other reports of this bug and related cache problems.
I assume that, at best, we will have to wait another 6 months or more for the next update. How can I assure this bug will be addressed?

Thank you for this bit of information. Maybe it means I can stop the deactivations/uninstall/reinstall/reactivate cycle to try yet another solution. And hopefully, this will stop the re-caching problem with other than tif files.

  • What does the "Only cache local content" box do under Caching Server?

Just upgraded to Mavericks server, but I don;t understand what the "Only cache local content option" does? Does that mean it caches content on an on-demand basis, or dowloads all availavle updates?

I suppose it's hidden in the Key 'PeerFilterRanges'
When PeerFilterRanges is boolean true, the caching server does the same as the above but uses the ListenRanges rather than the PeerFilterRanges value.

  • In preferences what does "Override automatic cache management" mean and do?

I was wondering what "Override automatic cache management" means and does.

Firefox normally manages the size of it's cache, and can cache more or less information depending on various factors.
Checking this option allows you to specify the maximum size of the Firefox cache, in MB.
There isn't usually any need to enable this option.

  • Does the Cisco Cache Engine Work with the Cisco Local Director ?

I need to know if it is possible and how to use cisco local director to redirect traffic to the cache engine in reverse proxy configuration and transparent proxy configuration.

In directed mode, the client browsers are configured to point to a proxy to a virtual IP address on the Local Director. I know the Local Director does not support a real server that does not have a virtual address defined so it can't transparently forward like the CSS.
