Does STARTTLS make an email 100% secure?

Get an email certificate from someone like Comodo, it can be used to verify an email hasn't been modified and if both parties have the correct keys it can be used for encryption.

STARTTLS does not ensure a message can only be read by the intended recipient. It secures the SMTP session from one server to another.  There is no way to guarantee that STARTTLS will used once the message has left your server.  Also STARTTLS does not actually protect the message itself so even if the message is transferred via STARTTLS the message still is not protected on the recipients mail server.  If you want to ensure the message can only be read by the intended recipient you'll need to use some form of end to end encryption such as SMIME, PGP, or a third party service such as Virtru.

  • On my iPad, my outgoing email regularly replies that the email was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying.  WHat does that mean and how do I make the email go anyway?

on my iPad, my outgoing mail regularly replies that the email was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying. What does that mean and how can I make the emails go out?

    Try this.
Check your username and password in the outgoing mail server setting. Fill it in even of it says that it's optional.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>choose the email account>account name, tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email username and password and see if that works for you.

  • Does it make sense to mark an email messages that are in junk mail folder as junk

    Hello,
I see that some of email messages that are in my junk mail folder are in different color and marked as junk. However, some emails in the folder are not marked as junk. Most of these unmarked emails are put there because of my rules. The question is: does it make sense to mark these messages (in junk email folder) as spam/junk manualy? Will email spam detection engine learn somethig from it?

If the messages are really junk, then mark them as junk.  That will help Mail detect similar messages as junk, even if your rules miss them.
If the messages are not junk, but you have set rules to junk them for some other reason, don't mark them as junk.  If you do mark them, you may start missing other messages.

I have lost my passwrod for Itunes account. I do not remember answer to security questions, choosing email reset instructions does not come to email my account (checked Spam folder already). My teenage daughter setup information and cannot find it.
    What can I do.

As I stated before, cannot access reset password without the answer to security questions and email is not showing up.
If all you can offer is "contact support" or add a link to reset password, please do not bother with a reply.
Was hoping someone could read the entire problem and offer something besides the obvious "contact support" which is totally useless without security question answers or email reset instructions which, as stated, are not coming to my email address.

  • GW2012 move: Does it make sense to move users to a new PO?

Moving from GW8 on OES-NW to GW2012 on OES11: Does it make sense to create new post office and move users?
We have a medium size GroupWise 8 system with a single post office holding less than 600 user accounts, 128 resources and 77 distribution lists.
Due to politics we also have a non-GroupWise external domain that contains a non-GroupWise external post office with a large number of "users".
The post office is on the primary domain.
3 secondary domains hold a GWIA and two web access agents.
I've never been real clear where the external stuff exists...
One of the web access gateways resides on an OES11 server.
The other webaccess agent and the GWIA are on OES-NW servers.
    All reside in NSS volumes.
Given the lack support for NSS volumes on Linux servers by most backup applications (including mine), I've pretty much determined that it makes sense to move my GW system to EXT3 volumes.
Even if I change backup software and stick with NSS, and even though all my data is stored on SAN arrays, from what I've read on the forums and from Danita's books, it's preferable to copy your GW system files to a new NSS volume, as opposed to just re-attaching the OES-NW LUN to the new OES11 server.
Point being, whatever I do will involve copying the entire system via dbcopy and at some point, will also involve shutting down the existing domain and PO for the last phase of the copying process.
So..., I'm contemplating the following scenario:
Create a new OES11 server with EXT3 volumes sufficient for holding my GroupWise system.
Create new GroupWise 8 domain on the server.
Promote the new domain to primary and upgrade this new domain to GroupWise 2012.
Once the new domain is upgraded, create new GW2012 post office on new server/primary domain and migrate the users, resources and distribution lists to the new post office.
In the past I've had an additional post office and had migrated a about 20-25 users to that post office.
It wasn't a terrible process, and fortunately, I didn't run into any problems with the migration of those users.
When I re-consolidated my system, moving them back was also problem free
    On the pro side:
    No downtime of entire system
    Relatively simple
Any issues in the migration process would be user-specific and would not effect the entire system.
    On the con side:
Process could take far longer, since you can't move a lot of users simultaneously.
In addition, we have a small group of users with anywhere from 40,000 to 80,000 email in their account, so I'd have to factor that into haw many users I migrate at one time.
The chance of running into a stalled migration, for whatever reason, is probably much higher than running into a problem with moving the domain and PO via dbcopy.
The unknown factors for me and my level of experience:
It's been a while since I've had multiple post offices, so I don't recall what changes the users might see with regard to distribution lists, web access or external email.

Is there any reason you think that warrants to do so?
If the system is performing normally I'd opt to stick to upgrading the current setup as is.
I'm also curious, are you intending to upgrade to 2014 after the 2012 upgrade?

Ok, that setup makes the upgrade easier. As you will start the upgrade with the primary holding the PO's... the PO's can be upgraded right after or during the domain upgrade (depending on if the MTA and POA are running on the same server).
That means you don't have to think about upgraded webaccess/GWIA connectivity issues with a lower PO version.
The external stuff are simply configurations found in the existing GroupWise domain databases. Or do you mean where those connected systems actually run?

    All reside in NSS volumes.
And the primary Domain and PO are also still on NetWare (version 6.5 SP8 I presume), correct?

Which backup application is that? With GroupWise op Linux not much NSS support is needed IMO.... as long as the files get backed up properly other metadata (rights, ownerships, etc) is irrelevant.
As for EXT3 vs NSS, when dealing with OES I always choose NSS. But that's me.
Another option could be to use XFS instead of ext3. That does perform much better, but has to be noted that it is more prone to file corruption in unexpected power loss situations.
With ext3, watch out for the scheduled filesystem check cycles at boot, that is one thing I really dislike about ext3 as disabling that check completely is not recommended and it means at least once a year the system will take an extensive amount of time to complete a (re)boot due to the check running on the ext3 filesystem. That usually pops up on you when you are not counting on it and "just quickly" want to reboot the server in a patching routine or other.

Yes, it's always good if you can start with a clean volume when transitioning from NetWare to OES.
Depending on how long you can afford to have the system down during upgrade, you can also choose the route of moving the NetWare LUN to the new OES server. Adding a second new LUN to the OES server with the needed size and initializing it with a new NSS volume and then just simply do a volume to volume copy using the cp of rsync command. As it's on the same server that can go quite quickly within an acceptable maintenance window to complete all move/upgrade steps.

Sure, though you don't necessarily have to use dbcopy... depending on what you are planning to do. An offline copy won't require it for example.
How much data are we talking about (in GB's)?

If you really want to move users.... sure. I'd again opt for upgrading the existing system.
Also, it's a good rule to have the PO's running the same GroupWise version and patchlevel before commencing user moves. Moves between PO's with a different GroupWise version can lead to issues.

If you would want to move users, for whatever reason, I'd opt to first upgrade to the latest version first, then move. There have been many enhancements and bugfixes made in the move procedure over these last couple of years.

I prefer a system upgrade over moving users. The process of moving when dealing with 100+ users, requires more effort and there are always things that need attention for a portion of the users. Also things like mobile devices can require some extra attention after having moved an account for example.
True, problems during a system upgrade can potentially affect all users. That is a factor. From the many upgrades I've done that's rarely really been an issue and problems encountered during an upgrade did not cause too much delay. Just make sure you always have a good full backup handy so you can reverse the upgrade if ever needed.

If by this you are referring to user moves and address book visibility between PO's, that should not be different to what users are seeing now. At least, the default is that within a GroupWise system all is visible throughout the system. If you have specifically set GroupWise objects to Postoffice visibility... then that would be something to check.
    Cheers,
    Willem

    Hello,
I'm a customer that wanted to bring to your attention the lack of customer service I've received from the Best Buy store at your Tri-County location, here in Ohio.  On the 14th of November, I walked in the store to buy an open box electric stove that was advertised on your website.  Your website clearly stated that one was in stock at the Tri-County location.  I called the store and spoke to a representative prior to my arrival at the store to confirm that this information was accurate and the rep simply told me yes it was, if it says it one the website then to go off of that.
So I went to the store to purchase the stove and was unable to find it.  I had several associates help me look for it and nobody could find it and the managers determined that it wasn't in stock.  Since it was a Best Buy mistake, the manager offered to give me the new version of the stove for the same price, which saved me a little money.  As I'm patiently waiting for the final word from one of the managers, I start looking around for other things I may possibly want to buy and I come across an open box french door refrigerator, so I decide to purchase that as well.  Nothing was wrong with it, except for a couple scratches.   Keep in mind that this is nearly a couple weeks before thanksgiving, where I had nearly 30 attendants.  I just bought a dishwasher and microwave from lowes and wanted to have my complete appliance set on display just in time for Thanksgiving.
When the items arrived at my home, a couple days before Thanksgiving, I was relieved that I received them on time.  For the most part, the delivery crew was acceptable, except for the fact that they broke a light switch on the wall as they were trying to move the refrigerator in it's place.  They told me about it and I told them that that was okay and that I was just happy that I received my appliances.  As anyone else would do, I waited for the fridge to get cold before I put the food back in and when it came time to do so, I noticed that the middle flap between both french doors was broke.  It's a bit deceiving because if you just look at it you can't really tell, but after opening and closing it a couple times, you could easily tell that it was broken.  So I called Best Buy that same day and told them of the problem.  I asked them if they had that part at the store, so I could just come in and get the replacement.  Note, that on the appliance defect report this was not listed, so I'm assuming it was damaged during delivery or was overlooked.  I mentioned this to the manager.  He said, that the item had to be special ordered, so as disappointed as I was that my fridge would not be fully operational for thanksgiving, I said it was okay and he told me that he would call me once it came in.  To give you a better idea of what my family is experiencing, we don't use the left door on the fridge.
2 weeks go by and I still haven't received a call, so I decide to call and check in for an update.  An associate tells me that the item just came in yesterday and that he would call me back in a few minutes to schedule a repair.  I don't receive a call that day, so I call best buy back a few days later.  Again, I speak to the same associate and he tells me that the item never came in and that the manager was just going to give me a new fridge instead. So I call your corporate office and speak with an associate and he says that he will get to the bottom of it and help me set up the delivery.
Well on the day of the delivery, which was a Saturday, I was told that it would be dropped off sometime between 3 and 5 in the evening, or something in that timeframe.  What do I do?  I empty out my fridge and clear a path for the delivery personnel.  It being a Saturday, I had plans and I haven't received a call from anybody.  So around half past 5, I start putting the items back in the fridge, as well as move the furniture back in place.  Keep in mind, this is no easy task.  I have a 4 bedroom home and a family of 5, so yes, I have a lot of furniture and a fully stocked fridge.  This probably took at least 2 hours to get everything cleared and to put it back in place when I found out they were not showing up.
I then get a call at 15 till 6 from the delivery crew telling me that they were on there way. Surprised and irate that they are now calling me, I have to refuse the delivery because we we didn't have time to wait around since we already had plans for the night.  I get another call from a Best Buy associate trying to reschedule and I told them that I've had enough of their dealings and that I would let corporate handle it and through corporate I would see that a proper delivery would then be scheduled.
Well this morning I saw on my phone that I have several missed calls, as early as 6 in the morning from Best Buy delivery stating that I am suppose to recieve my fridge in the morning and I was there 2nd stop.  I call the guy and tell him that I was unaware of the delivery and that I would give you guys a call today to schedule the appointment.  I intend to call you after I send this email regarding that.
So in all, I've probably been on the phone with Best Buy personnel at least 10 times and several hours.  I spoke to several associates, including 3 different managers, 3 different delivery crews, and a rep from your corporate office once.  I think it's safe to say that this has been a total nightmare and saving a couple hundred dollars does not make up for it.  I wanted to reach out to you because as an educated consumer, who also happens to be an elite Best Buy member, I can firmly say that because of this "Nightmare" I will not be buying any more appliances from your store and you would be lucky if I bought anything else from the store.  You do have some pretty good deals on games and movies though, so I may continue to do that.
Please take this information and utilize it accordingly, obviously, this is not how business should be ran and I know this isn't the first time something like this has happened.  The exact same thing happend to my friend a few years back from a different store.

    Hello penningtonj,
While it's great to hear that you seem to have received new inbox units at open box prices due to your experiences, it certainly sounds like the delivery portion of the experience could have been vastly better for you.
I'm glad to hear that the oven is working well for you, and I'm truly sorry to hear of the difficulties you've experienced with the open box refrigerator. Our open box items should be thoroughly inspected and marked accordingly for its condition or any missing parts or accessories. It is disheartening to hear that a damaged part may have gone unnoticed. With that said, it's awesome that the store has offered to replace it.
We strive to ensure our deliveries are seamless and hassle-free. Given you have a sizable family, I know emptying a refrigerator is no easy task, as I grew up in family of a similar size, and should the refrigerator have to be emptied for any reason, it was a bit chaotic! It is regrettable to hear that the delivery team was late, and that they failed to contact you sooner to let you know of their delay. Furthermore, it is strange that you may not have been aware of (and thus completely unprepared for) the rescheduled delivery. I can understand how this would be concerning, and further aggravating.
I sincerely apologize for the continued hassle you've experienced with purchasing these appliances. With that said, it appears that you are currently scheduled for delivery on 1/28/15. You should receive a phone call the night before to provide you with a time frame of when to expect them. If you should have any questions or concerns, please feel welcome to reach out to me!
    Respectfully,

  • I have Firefox 5 now, in the admin section of my web site when I edit a change in the data it does not make the change on my data file. There was no problem in my previous version.

How can I return to a previous version that did not have problem? On Safari on my lap top Mac, I do not have this problem. We tried this on another Windows computer with a 3.5 or 3.6 Firefox version and there was no problem.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site. Note: this is likely to log you out, so finish up whatever you are working on first.
    1. Clear Firefox's Cache
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"
    2. If needed, delete the site's cookies here
While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
Some sites appear to be incompatible with Firefox 5. The difficulty is tracking down the problem. To see whether it is caused by the new stricter HTML parser in Firefox 4+, you can turn that off. Please save any unfinished work first.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''html5''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click '''html5.parser.enable''' to toggle it to false (it should turn bold).
Then return to the problem page, reload and try again. Does that make any difference?
Here's the process to roll back if needed:
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
    Close Firefox 5.
You could install Firefox 3.6 over it (many have reported success) or you could uninstall Firefox first. If you uninstall, do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.

  • Lightroom does NOT make use of new/fast hardwares!

For those who are considering a new computer here's my experience....
Lightroom 4 does NOT make full use of new/fast CPUs / SSDs!
I’ve been frustrated with Lightroom speed since launch and held on to my “old” Xeon work station for two years…. I recently invested in the latest Intel CPU and IO technology and I'm very disappointed how Lightroom 4 does not make use of it. It's most noticeably sluggish from one photo to the next during editing. This may seem small but when I edits hundreds of images everyday it really slow me down.
See my system specs at very bottom of this post. I don't think there's a bottle neck in performance! I love my new setup and it's a pleasure to use the OS. BUT I'm so disapointed everytime I load up Lightroom. (My typical Lightroom edits are 600-900 sRAW images - I edit down my photos in Photo Mechanic 5! It's just too slow in Lightroom)
Lightroom still take time to load each image when advance from one image to the next (During editing). Isn’t smart enough to cache 100 images in advance let say. (1:1 previews as been created!)
Won’t make use of more than 8GB ram. No matter how big the RAW working set is.
Very slow switching from one working module to another
Lightroom Jpeg export won’t make use of more than 25% of new Intel Xeon E5 series dual processors processing power 12 cores. 6-9 cores are literally taking a nap during export!
I’ve tried everything found in Adobe suggestion link below:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/optimize-performance-lightroom.html
    * I definately tried 1:1 render preview and all of the other jazz found in link directly above!
    * Running all latest firmwares and updates
I hope the next version of Lightroom will actually make use of good hardware instead of adding on more features. We desperately need a snappy/responsive Lightroom for sake of productivity! I'm not here to put down Adobe. I'm a big fan of Adobe and Intel and have been using them for 15 years.
    My Setup:
    Dell Workstation T7600
    Dual Xeon E5-2630 2.5GHz (12 Cores Total)
    64GB 1600Mhz RAM
OCZ RevoDrive 3X2 - 1500MB/s (Boot / Camera Raw Cache)
4 Intel 520 Series SSD in RAID0 with dedicated 1GB Cache SAS/SATA PCIe 3.0 controller (Working RAW files)
Nvidia GTX680 - 4GB VRAM (I know this made for 3D but it has PCIe 3.0 connectivity - Quadro 4000 PCIe 2.0 wasn't any better)
    Drobo-S 2GBx5 (Strictly Storage)
Windows 7 Ultimate (Bare minimum! Just Adobe CS6 suite and Microsoft Office 2010)

Can you copy this to the Feature Request forum so we can vote on it please?  http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family  And then post the link here so we can find it.  It'll get my vote.
There are a couple of others you might like to vote on too, such as using the embedded preview for editing down.  http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom_capability_to_display_embe dded_preview
In terms of workarounds for now, if you haven't tried the 4.2RC yet, you might find the module switching a bit faster.  And for better use of your exports processing power, try splitting your export into 3 or 4 and running them concurrently (i.e. set the first going, and immediately set the second going, etc.) as that'll make better use of the extra cores if your hard drives are able to keep up with them.

  • Does Lightroom make Bridge obsolete?

I'm new to Lightroom, and really like the simplicity of Bridge.  I find Lightroom very confusing and with duplicate features of Photoshop.  I particularly find the "catalog" feature very confusing.  Bridge is very intuitive and the Explorer metaphor works like one would expect.  I can manage my images perfectly, with no confusion.  I like the combination of Bridge, ACR, and Photoshop CS5.  Why would I need Lightroom?  PS: I don't need "tethering" feature of LR.  One more question:  I wonder if in the future Adobe will get rid of Bridge (because it's free) and make people buy LR.  ???

I like the simplicity of Bridge, and how everything I do with files (managing folders, deleting/moving files, etc) works exactly like in Windows Explorer.  However, once I understand LR, and the way I can catalog images and search images, I may find that I use both--Bridge for truly managing the images and folders, and LR for cataloging images for rapid search.  I plan on giving LR the benefit of the doubt and working with it before categorically rejecting it.

LR might be confusing at first, particularly if one doesn't that LR is not a browser-type program but a data base program. It's data base being the catalog.LR is far superior than Bridge for image management. You willbe able to apreciate this only after you have dived deep into LR. But, Bridge still remains useful just because it's a browser based program. It will display everything that is on the hard drive - as far as image files are concerned, whereas LR displays only what has been imported. Also, Bridge displays image files that are not supported in LR. But after 5 years of working with LR I have to say, it's a fantastic program (despite some flaws) and I could not do the work I'm doing without LR. WW

As Roger said, iCloud does not support external POP accounts.
However, you can configure your Max to directly receive your Yahoo! email by following these instructions:

Note that this works (for me) without a Yahoo Plus! account - and make sure that you scroll down to the comment at the end of the article which has all of the correct settings in one place.
    Cheers,

Apple does not recognize my answers to security questions. Now what?

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then see if the instructions on this user tip helps you get them reset : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4551
