Domain architecture question if using multiple FMW products

Hi,
We are in the initial phases of setting up a WLS/FMW environment to replace our iAS 10.1.2 (forms and reports) and 10.1.3 (j2ee) environments. In addition to bringing over the in-house written applications we will be using the following FMW products - OBIEE, SOA/BPEL, and eventually Forms & Reports. Our question is what would be a good way to architect this environment?
I initially installed WLS and then configured a domain. When I went to install and configure OBIEE 11.1.1.6 it would not let me extend the existing domain, so I created another domain for it. I haven't been able to find any documentation yet that indicated OBIEE must run in it's own domain, but is that what it is trying to tell us by not allowing us to extend an existing domain?
Should we create a separate domain for each of the Oracle FMW products I mentioned above? That would require 3 domains if we were to put our in-house applications in to one of 3, but is that a good or a bad idea?
I see some potential advantages to putting each in it's own domain, but one disadvantage would seem to be that we'd need 3 AdminServers which would also be using resources on the physical server. Would we need 3 node managers if we had 3 separate domains?
I'm hoping someone else out there has had to create an environment similar to ours and may be able to provide some guidance here. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi
1. What you want is totally possible like have a single domain with all the stuff installed for atleast 3 products you mentioned like OBIEE, SOA/BPM, Forms/Reports etc.
2. Lets take few steps back. Domain creation comes in the end. The first thing is installing each of the above products in the same middleware home or different middleware home.
3. For any product from Oracle, Weblogic Server is the basic underlying application server. First you need to install this with the same version of soa/bpm, obiee that you plan to install on top of this. Once WLS is installed. Now install OBIEE on top of this. You can install SOA/BPM also on top of this same WLS. For OBIEE, you may need to first run RCU and have OBIEE shcemas ready. Because OBIEE simple installation will create a ready to use BI Domain also. Anyhow point is now on top of WLS you have 2 products installed like OBIEE and SOA/BPM.
4. Now comes the Domain creation. Use config wizard, and create a domain. At this point, you will see all the options (Project Facets) for both the prouducts. If you choose, all soa/bpm modules and obiee modules, you will get a Single Domain with 1 AdminServer and different managed servers for soa/bpm and obiee. I know for soa/bpm, it creates soa_server1, bam_serve1 and for obiee it may have like bi_server1. If you really plan to have all in one domain, I would prefer create clusters like soa_cluster, bam_cluster, bi_cluster, forms_cluster etc. And in these clusters have corresponding managed servers. Then you can have these serves on same physical machine or across remote different physical machine. Only thing is, on all the machines you should have exact same version of wls and all products installed in the same folder structure.
5. The advantage of having one domain is, you will have one single point of control for all admin stfuff and em stuff to control any product. Also if they interact with each other like soa calling bi reports, this may be little easy from single sign on etc and security configuration etc.
6. But if you do not have any interaction between them, you can have separate installers like WLS+soa and WLS+biee on different machines. Now a days hardware machines are very cheap with best configuration like 16GB 4 cpu workstation you can get for $2k.
I have on my side a single installation with WLS + SOA/BPM + OBIEE (all 11.5). Single RCU DB for all these schemas. Single Domain with all soa/bpm and obiee modules deployed ofcourse with different managed servers and 1 admin server. They are all running fine so far.

    Not as such.
Give the AppleTV units unique names and also enable Airplay password in settings with unique passwords for each teacher.

  • Question about using multiple iPods on the same PC

I've read the FAQs on this subject but I still have a couple of questions about multiple users with separate iPods using the same PC.
I want to use my family's desktop (A new Gateway with Vista, if it matters) for my new iPod Classic, but my father already has an iTunes account on there for his iPod. I know I can create a new user account on the PC and move iTunes to a shared folder so that we can share music, but will this second account be able to purchase music from the iTunes store or am I going to have to switch between Windows User accounts to make purchases and then move new songs into my separate iTunes account via the shared folder? Will it be its own separate iTunes account (separate user name, separate credit card used, etc.) or will it just be a second library that's dependant on the first?
I want to be able to have my own iTunes account, make my own purchases in it, and maybe occasionally share tv shows or something with my father.
If this can't be done, would I be better off just creating new playlists for our two iPods from the same library, or creating a second library on my Father's account?
Also, if I want to access things I've purchased from iTunes on this desktop in iTunes on my notebook, will I be able to?
    I hope that made sense.
Sorry if these seem like silly questions. This will be my first iPod as I'm really excited about the 160gig and want to know if these things are possible.
Thanks in advance for any help

    Hi, Wes.
Congratulations on your new iPod Classic and Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
For no particular reason, let's answer your last question first ...
... if I want to access things I've purchased from iTunes on this desktop in iTunes on my notebook, will I be able to?
The iTunes Store operates on a one download per purchase policy so you will have to copy the purchases from one computer to the other and make sure that you authorize the laptop to play the songs.
As to your first question ...
... will this second account be able to purchase music from the iTunes store or am I going to have to switch between Windows User accounts to make purchases ...
Whatever XP User Account you are logged in to doesn't really matter. What's important is which Apple Account you sign in to ... yours or your Dad's or - if you had my Apple ID and password - The Mimico Kid's for that matter. You can sign in to any Apple Account on any XP User Account. Or any computer for that matter.
Where the XP User Account comes into play is that it will determine where on your computer the purchases are downloaded. Files will be sent to the iTunes Music folder as specified in the iTunes Edit menu > Preferences > Advanced tab > General sub-tab. Default settings will have a different location for each User Account - C:\Documents and Settings\ user name \My Documents\My Music\iTunes - but if you've read this article in the Apple Knowledge Base, you will know you can change the location of the iTunes Music folder in each XP Account to a common location such as C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music\iTunes.
Post back if all this hasn't been as clear as mud and you need anything clarified.

  • Question About using multiple email address w/ IMAP server

With apple mail in the account settings you can put multiple email address separated by a comma. This allows you to select your from address when sending new mail.
I have added this to the iphone mail settings but I dod not have the option to select what address I would like to send from. Is there a way to do this.? Thank you.

No, no chance of specifying a different FROM address unless you use the "Other" shortcut on the iPhone to create the mail account.

  • Question-DAQmx: Using multiple channels on a single device with a trigger

The purpose of the attached VI (Switching_Controller.vi) is to wait for a trigger signal from the input and output a pulse whenever it occurs. However, at the same time I want to output and read a single sample from another input and output channel pair (behavior in Main_Controller.vi). I was planning on doing this in two parallel subvi's but I am running into the common error -50103, "specified resource is reserved". I understand that in order to address this issue I need to compress all output channels and all input channels into just two tasks. However, I am having trouble addressing the issue of the trigger, since I want the second set of inputs and outputs to happen continuously and the trigger forces the task to a certain rate of repetition. Is there any way to run a multichannel task in two parallel subvi's?
Thanks in advance for the insight.

    Hello!
Take a look at the attached screen shot. I wrote a small (and very simple) example that I think you'll be able to modify for your needs. Basically, we can use the start task to avoid getting resources reserved and break the task apart so that we write 1 sample on n channels and then write a waveform on a another channel.
You will notice that I needed to enable the "autostart" function of the DAQmx write for the waveform data by writing a true constant to the vi. This way, the vi will start on its own with a start vi.
    Hope this helps!

  • How to set #HOST# variable used in Chart template using Multiple Domains?

I have a extended question to How can I set #HOST# variable referenced in the Chart template?
In addition to the Proxy layer, we are looking to use multiple sub-domain names into the same Oracle APEX instance (through the one DAD) each mapped to a different application id. Therefore I don't think the solution in the link will work for me - as this embeds a single domain name in the DADS.CONF.
    Two questions:
    - Is it possible to set the "HTTP_HOST" in "dads.conf" using an existing HTTP Header value? - my proxy can pass on the original domain as "HTTP_X_FORWARDED_HOST". So if it was possible to use (say: using whatever form/syntax of parameterisation is available) ?
    >
    PlsqlCGIEnvironmentList HTTP_HOST=%{HTTP_X_FORWARDED_HOST}
    >
If it can then that would work for me. It would be great if modl_plsql handled this out of the box as I understand the "X-FORWARDED" approach is pretty standard in the proxy world including passing on original IP addresses. Hitting an phpinfo() site shows headers
    >
    HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR     192.168.2.100
    HTTP_X_FORWARDED_HOST     dev.mycompany.com:443
    HTTP_X_FORWARDED_SERVER     mycompany.com
    >
    - Alternatively is it possible in APEX environment to set the #HOST# from the HTTP Header "HTTP_X_FORWARDED_HOST" if it exists for all requests?
    Thanks

    Hi Donna,
changing the CGI environment variables HTTP_HOST, REQUEST_PROTOCOL and SERVER_PORT is the correct way how to resolve this, because it appears that your hiding the web server where you have installed mod_plsql or EPG by a different outside facing web server (also called reverse proxy). That's why APEX gets the host name, protocol and port of the internal web server, but should actually get the values of your reverse proxy web server. Can can fix that by changing the following CGI environment variables.
HTTP_HOST should just contain the domain name (no protocol or port). For example: www.oracle.com
REQUEST_PROTOCOL should contain http or https
SERVER_PORT should be the port for https
I don't want to add a new cgi variable called HOST because HOST sounds so generic and it might interfere with something else running in our environment. Or, I don't want to change the plsql cgi environment variable (such as HTTP_HOST) because many developers may use owa_util.get_cgi_env('HTTP_HOST') to get the current server. If the SERVER_PORT is part of the #HOST# then what could I change it to if it needs to be null. If you leave it blank, then the default SERVER_PORT comes from the CGI variables. The value of HTTP_HOST is wrong anyway and points to your internal web server, but I assume your developers actually want to get the host name of your external web server if they use it to generate absolute URLs. That's why I wouldn't bother and set it to the correct host name.

  • Using Multiple Domain Names to Access Our Portal

We operate one domain corp.company.com but all internal intranet web servers get  assigned the address inside.ZZZ. The inside.ZZZ is on our IE exclusion list but company.com is not. Adding company.com seems to be a miserable task so we are looking at adding an alias so our users can access the server at the new inside.ZZZ url. We have DNS pointing the URL to the right server and that seems to be working properly.
Something within the application is redirecting the page to gnwhepdev.corp. company .com (our server’s domain address) after the initial login.  Since *.corp. company .com is not in the exclusion list, it is considered an outside address and rerouted.  We are trying to find some way to pass the alias within the  application itself so that we don’t need *.corp. company .com in the exclusion list and we can point users to the inside.ZZZ url.
Our team researched this issue and found documentation that supported the use of multiple domain names to access a Enterprise Portal.  The documentation that we found is below:
    How To…Configure the J2EE Engine Deployment Descriptor (Version 1.00 – July 2004)
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/d0eb8120-b66c-2910-5795-894f384fc054
Particularly on page 13-15 in the documentation it talks about enabling the portal via multiple domain names (Section 3.7:  Using Multiple Domain Names to Access the Portal).  Also, the documentation says the following:
You must have sever proxy servers, each with a different domain name.  You then activate the filter mechanism and configure it to work with several proxy servers
We have several questions about the possiblities of being able to set this up and whether it would require another server where Web Dispatcher would need to be installed for this configuration to work properly.  Can someone please provide some insight into what needs to be configured and answer the question about the Web Dispatcher?  Also, if Web Dispatcher is required, what steps need to be done to configure?  If Web Dispatcher is not needed, what will we need to do apart from that to set this up for our Enterprise Portal system?

It is but you have to use masking......

  • How to use Multiple Product Hierarchies in Shopping Cart creation

    Dear SRM Experts,
We have an issue in using multiple Product Hierarchies while creating a shopping cart. Need your help to resolve this.
Our SRM system is integrated with 2 ERP back-end systems. In material replication we have created 2 hierarchies for different ERPs and their product categories are stored in respective hierachies.
    Example:
    EBPMATCLAS is for ERP1
    EBPSERVCAT is for ERP2
Now when I create shopping cart, it allows only those products which are part of EBPMATCLAS because of below configuration..
We cant configure multiple hierarchies for purchasing so we are not able to use both Hierarchies simultaneously.
Request you to help with the possible solution to use multiple hierarchies.
    Thanks

    Hi Rajan,
You not need to create 2 hierarchy ID. Inside the R3MATCLASS you can see the reference with both banckends.

  • Using Multiple AD domains with ACS

    Hi,
Is it possible to use multiple domains for authentication with ACS? I need to use AAA to authenticate remote users into a centralised location but the users will be from different domains and I was hoping to use a single applicance to cater for all domains. Can this be achieved using LDAP? I understand that ACS can only be part of one AD domain.....
In essence I am hoping that I will be able to authenticate the user based on their domain\credentials.
    Thanks in advance

I understand that ACS can only join a single AD domain - but can it use LDAP to authenticate users from different AD domains - I don't want to have to established trusts between different domains.

After calling AT&T tech support one more time, and explaining to them that the glitch was on their network, they admitted that the problem was at their tower...
I continued to use the phone on EDGE mode for two more days until the problem was fixed.
I even got a call back from a tech support guy asking me if my phone was working properly....

  • Using Multiple "Personal Domains"

I have several different websites that I have created in my iWeb 08. I currently have all of them published under the same domain file. I have purchased and use 3 different domains www.heavensdooronline.com, www.dalevillechristian.org, and www.jcdcyouth.com that are all re-directed to the corresponding iWeb website that I've created for them. I would like to know if I can use the "personal Domains" and have each of the 3 different websites automatically re-direct without having to "cloak" them so that people don't see a HUGE url, as in the past. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
    Mark

    Mark:
You can only have one site setup via the .Mac's setup option in the iWeb->File->Setup Personal Domain menu option. For the other two you'll need to have domain name forwarding established by the name provider. I think it would be best to separate the three sites into their own domain files.
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want. With each of the three having a separate domain name this will lessen thee chance of anything getting messed up as could happen if all three sites were in the same domain.sites2 file. You might want to do some editing on a site but not publish right away. With separate files you can do that.
Also be sure to keep a frequent backup copy of the domain.sites file(s) by using Varkgirl's Automator application. You can get it Varkgirl's iWeb Tips and Tricks site.

  • Question on using using purchases on multiple ipods

    Hi,
I am pretty new to this forum and cant get my head around some problems. I have been told its possible to purhcase something on an itunes account, but use it on more than one ipod. So for example I buy something on my itunes and sync with my ipod, can my girlfriend plug in her ipod to my itunes to sync that purchase with her ipod. I tried this last night and received a warning that confussed me, something about transferring purchases to her ipod, which I was afraid would wipe them from mine.
I saw this feature on the Itunes site called 'home sharing', not too sure if this is what I should do or not.
Hope the above makes sense and thanks to anybody that can help.

    Yes. This may help:
How to use multiple iPods with one computer
I tried this last night and received a warning that confussed me, something about transferring purchases to her ipod, which I was afraid would wipe them from mine.
Without knowing the exact message, it's difficult to offer advice. But anything to do with your girlfriend's iPod would almost certainly have nothing to do with yours. If you can post the precise error message, we can probably be more informative.
I saw this feature on the Itunes site called 'home sharing', not too sure if this is what I should do or not.
Home Sharing is for copying content from one computer to another. If you're using only a single computer, Home Sharing will be irrelevant.
