Double Float Margin Bug "error"
I did a browser compatibility check on one of the pages that
I am building and got this error.............
"Line 112, Double Float Margin Bug 'error'
When a margin is applied to a floated box on the same side as
the direction of the float, the margin is doubled. This bug only
affects the first float in a row of one or more floats.
Affects: Internet Explorer 6.0
Likelihood: Very Likely"
I have many thumbnails for a gallery page in their own divs,
within the content div, and they are floated in there.
When I viewed solutions, they suggested:
"When a margin is applied to a floated box on the same side
as the direction the box is floated AND the floated box is the
first one inside its containing box, the margin is doubled. (In
other words, a left-floated box with margin-left set to move it
away from its containing box will be twice as far away from the
left edge of the containing box as intended.)
SOLUTION
Specify display: inline; for the affected float.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
This bug only reproduces when the floated element's margin
extends in the same direction as the float itself, and is between
the float and the container box's inside edge. Subsequent floats
with similar margins won't reproduce this bug- just the first float
in any row of floated elements."
Does anyone have any solutions, suggestions as how to fix
this? I will attach my code. And if anyone has a better solution as
to laying my thumbnail divs in another div container, please say
so. The reason I am putting them in separate divs is because that
is what someone suggested to use them with Lightbox2. He said they
needed some kind of special CSS to enable some of the functions and
they (the thumbnails) were easier to style if they were in their
own separate divs. I'm open for any suggestions.
Thanks!
Just add "display:inline" to the styling like this:
.image {
background-color: #121922;
height: 100px;
width: 100px;
float: left;
margin: 20px;
display: inline;
}

Help! Expand Box, Doubled Float Margin Bug & Float Drop Problem
Hi,
My website has a title problem in line 159, 161 and 164, and I couldn't fiugre out why since my design view is TOTALL messed up in dreamweaver. However, by using google chrome broswer, webpage is still displaying fine, but not IE or firefox.. I was wondering if someone can help me take a look and give me some feedback how to fix the issue....thank you very much,

it seems that ur using the package "org.javabluetooth.stack.BluetoothStack" in WTK1.0 or 2.0 which does not support floating point. The above package uses float data type. You can download the new version of WTK (2.1) which supports floating points. -
How to convert value from exp. value to double/float???
Hi all,
I am fetching values from database, which is of type double / float.
eg. values will be like -22,777,548 will be stored in database.
NOw if i use
float a= rs.getFloat(1);
out.println("a="+a);
I get output as a= -2.2777548E7
I want to remove "E" from out put value and display as it was given in DB.
How to solve this problem?
Please Help!
Regards
AshviniWhat do you mean - 'how does it work' ? All format classes (MessageFormat, DecimalFormat , SimpleDateFormat etc) are used to convert data from one form to other. Go through the java.text.* api. They work based on some pattern searches, pattern matches etc - dont know in detail :)
As for the other things, thanks :)
cheers,

Floating Point Arithmatic Error
Hi,
I know actionscript represents numbers and double precision
floating point values. I'm having a problem where double arithmatic
in actionscript doesn't match the results of the same double
arithmatic in C++ / C#.
EXAMPLE:
In C++ / C#:
double x, y, x1, y1;
x = 209.4;
y = 148.8;
x1 = 203.0;
y1 = 145.0;
double ddx = x - x1;
double ddy = y - y1;
RESULT
ddx: 6.4000000000000057
ddy: 3.8000000000000114
In Flash ActionScipt 2:
var x, y, x1, y1;
x = 209.4;
y = 148.8;
x1 = 203.0;
y1 = 145.0;
var ddx = x - x1;
var ddy = y - y1;
RESULT
ddx: 6.39999999999992
ddy: 3.80000000000024
After researching Flash / Actionscript "var" stores numerical
values as doubles ( 8 bytes ) just like doubles are stored in C++ /
C# ( 8 bytes ). Why would there be a difference between the results
of ddx and ddy? Are there different implementations of double
floating point math? If so, Is there a way I can mimic the Flash /
Actionscript version in C++ / C#?
Any help would be great!
Thanks!Hmmm, so you're saying the actual binary representation is
the same but they're just displayed differently? -
Is There Any Way to check/test if there is a bug/error in JRE???
Hi
I was wondering if there is a way to check/test if there is bugs/errors in JRE ??
can somebody tell me ??
Thanks.Hi
I was wondering if there is a way to check/test if
there is bugs/errors in JRE ??
can somebody tell me ??
Thanks.I would trust that the JRE is basically bug free (it is never completely bug free, or there wouldn't be minor update versions).
If it has bugs, what kind of programming code would you think would find them, when the buggy VM would be running that code, possibly incorrectly due to the bug in the first place?
Your question is a bit backwards. If you're going to worry about VM bugs, then you'd better be a whole lot more worried about the OS too. -
Bug Error but can't find what's wrong
I have a bug error next to on of my pages. I can't for the life of me find what's wrong. I have gone over every image in the page and they are all, I believe, linked the same as in the other pages but still - the bug won't shoo . When I preview, then things get really wacky. I thought I was on top of it and made some updates and then refreshed my site. Go see - www.juliakuskin.com. If you click on Children and then click on Landscape or Lifestyle, it stays on children... Please help?
-JuliaNate,
I ended up creating a whole new page last night, linking it and posting it. The site now works but I will keep your emails in my file in case I get into this again. Thanks for your help.

ps - do you think it's a good idea to make the switch over to dreamweaver? -

Double - Float casting or Why isn't there float sqrt?
Is there any reason why not to include float sqrt? I'm pretty pissed since, it is just... well plain stupid. I hope it can be added, not to mention that casting takes away performance, not much, but I have to do a lot of casting since I'm doing 3d grahpics... Anyone know any solluions? Is there any point going the hard way and implementing own sqrt for float?
WHY WHY WHY, OH WHY.
Something is rotten in the state of java.The absence of Math.sqrt(float) and float versions of other relevant methods is apparently becuase early versions of the Java compiler could not distinguish overloaded methods which only differed in double/float parameters. The current compilers do not have this problem and it has been proposed that the extra methods should be added but I don't know when this might happen.
In any case how sure are you that casting between double and float is causing any significant performance problem? This cast is NOT particularly expensive (casting to 'int' from float or double is usually much more expensive).
What processor are you using --- as far as I know Intel processors do not give any speed benefit from doing sqrt on float instead of double. I believe that many RISC processors do benefit from using float where possible. -
Double/float/BigDecimal
Hi all
What is the major difference between
double, float, BigDecimal inorder to use for
the accurate results in currency calculations.
Thanks in advance.double and float are basically the same, other than double is twice as large. They are not accurate. I belive that (you can test this yourself) if you:
<code>
double d = .001 + .001 + .001 + .001;
System.out.println(d == 0);
</code>
you get true. at least something similar to above shows this.
BigDecimal is incredibly large and it is accurate. -
Hello,
Please, see this code:
public static void main(String[] args)
double[] arr=new double[]{3279.87d,-986.09d,-2293.78d};
double d=0;
double h=0;
for(int i=0;i<arr.length;i++)
double x=arr;
System.out.println(x);
if(x>0)
d+=x;
else
h-=x;
System.out.println("d = "+d);
System.out.println("h = "+h);
System.out.println("d-h= "+(d-h));
System.out.println("d==h= "+(d==h));
"d" and "h" must be equal.
However, it prints:
3279.87
-986.09
-2293.78
d = 3279.87
h = 3279.8700000000003
d-h= -4.547473508864641E-13
d==h= false
Is this a bug?
Using strictfp produces the same output.
JDK: 1.4.2_03 (linux) and 1.5.0 (linux)Is this a bug? Using strictfp produces the same output.No, you just don't understand how floating point numbers work:
What Every Computer Scientist Should Know About Floating Point Numbers
Your own data is telling you that the difference between d and h is 1e-13, which is NOT zero. Since that's the case, how could d == h be true? Why don't you believe the evidence you have in front of you?
Anyone who works with floating point numbers would know that you don't check equality like that. You compare the absolute value of the difference to a small error value. -
Java Double calculations produce greater error than C++?
I wrote PLU (A=PLU) decomposition program in Java to solve Ax=B. A, P,L and U are square arrays. x and B are vectors. The error was great for large matrices.My instructor suggested me to use C++. So, I wrote the same thing in C++. The error is much less now. The code is almost identical. I thought that both languages use the same IEEE standard.
Is it possible that java handles double calculations worse than C++ does?tmirzoev wrote:
matrix A and B are known. So, after my program computes x, I do Ax-B. Ideally, Ax-B=0. But that never happens because of the errors in floating point calculations. The problem that in Java that error Ax-b is much greater than in C++.Okay, but how do you know that Ax-b is greater in Java? Show your Java code and your C++ code. -

I'm not sure if that extension has been upgraded for sql developer 4. Extensions written for previous versions won't work in sql developer 4 - they need to be modified to support the OSGI framework.
Leave the thread open until one of the sql developer team members can answer this.
Here is the note from the sql developer exchange home page
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/extensions-083825.html
Special Note Regarding Extensions Developed Prior to SQL Developer
v4.0:
With the new release of SQL
Developer 4.0, an extension that was written for a previous version of SQL
Developer will no longer work. SQL Developer is built on the JDeveloper
Framework. We have updated the framework to be current with the JDeveloper 12c
release. With JDeveloper 11gR2, they switched to an OSGI framework. The JDeveloper team has published instructions for updating your extensions to be compatible with
the new framework and SQL Developer v4.0.
The Check for Updates interface
has been updated to hide any 3rd party extensions to avoid confusion with
extensions not loading. Once you have updated your extension for version 4 and
beyond, let us know, and we'll update the system to make it available again. For
questions regarding the process of going from the old to new framework, we have
started a dedicated
thread on the Forums. You can also email the Product Manager, Jeff Smith, to
setup a call with one of our developers for additional assistance.
As that note says if that extension is NOT for version 4 it shouldn't show up on the list of updates. -
BUG - Error when deploying to 10.1.3 AS Preview 4 on Linux
I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3 EA on a Windows machine and am deploying to Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3 Preview 4 on a Linux box. I'm deploying an ADF Struts web project that is having troubles displaying my sceens. When I try to view any one of my JSPs, I get this error:
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.adf.share.http.ServletADFContext.setVariableResolver(Ljava/lang/Object;)V

Using a java decompiler, I've been able to locate the method setVariableResolver() in the ADFContext class which ServletADFContext.java extends. This can be found in the adfshare.jar. So I have no idea why the server can't find this method when I know it exists. I thought maybe I had an old adfshare.jar and so I replaced it everywhere I found it on the app server with the jar file that comes with JDev 10.1.3 EA. But this proved to be a dead end, as well as everything else I've tried. I've even tried reinstalling the app server. Has anyone else installed App Server 10.1.3 Preview 4 on a Linux box? Is there some qwerk that you found to get it working?
Additionally I have created a very simple project with nothing but a JSP and it works. So I'm led to believe that there is some ADF JAR file that is not quite right. My ADF Struts web project worked using the same app server on Windows 2003. However I ran into a different problem with that: BUG - Connection pooling with 10g 10.1.3 Preview 4 App Server
So we have decided to make the move to Linux but I can't get past this error. I have updated the ADF Runtime Libraries and I've swapped out the JDK and JRE with 1.5. Any help would be greatly appreciated.The adfshare.jar does not get included with my app. I've checked my WAR file and this JAR is not found there. I'm completely stumped at this point. Have you had success using Oracle App Server 10.1.3 Preview 4 on Linux?
I have made some progress narrowing down where the error occurs. When I add data bindings to a JSP, the following code gets added to my web.xml:
<filter>
<filter-name>ADFBindingFilter</filter-name>
<filter-class>oracle.adf.model.servlet.ADFBindingFilter</filter-class>
<init-param>
<param-name>encoding</param-name>
<param-value>windows-1252</param-value>
</init-param>
</filter>
<filter-mapping>
<filter-name>ADFBindingFilter</filter-name>
<url-pattern>*.jsp</url-pattern>
</filter-mapping>
<filter-mapping>
<filter-name>ADFBindingFilter</filter-name>
<url-pattern>*.jspx</url-pattern>
</filter-mapping>
<filter-mapping>
<filter-name>ADFBindingFilter</filter-name>
<servlet-name>action</servlet-name>
</filter-mapping>
If I delete this code out of my web.xml file, that error message goes away. The ADFBindingFilter class is also included in the error stacktrace. So I'm thinking that this class is the culprit. I'm convinced this is a BUG with Oracle ADF and Linux.
Another idea perhaps is that the error occurs because I'm developing in JDeveloper on Windows and then deploying to an app server on Linux. My embedded server on Windows runs my app just fine. I have the same OS setup for JDev 10.1.2 and the app server 10.1.2 and I have no problems with that. But I really don't want to have to go back to 10.1.2. -

Am i doing something wrong or is it really a bug.When you get such error, that's both: you made a mistake (and at least you get a generally helpful message about it) but the compiler is bugging out and crashing...
