Doubt in clone()

Hi..
I have a doubt in clone()
Iam having an error : clone() has protected access in java.lang.Object
class lang_methods implements Cloneable
public static  void main(String arg[]) throws CloneNotSupportedException
Object abt_eq=new lang_methods();  //1
lang_methods abt_clone=(lang_methods)abt_eq.clone();
}}In line 1 if i replace Object with lang_methods ,then iam not having the error.
Can anyone pls explain me whts the reason for such error...
Thnx.
mysha.

lang_methods is a horrible class name. Please follow the standard. For example, LangMethods would be an acceptable name.
You cannot access the protected clone method of Object. When you use a reference of the same type as your class implementation, however, you are automatically granted access to methods and fields from private through to public. You would NOT be able to achieve this through the main method in any OTHER class.

  • Doubt using clone

    Hi
when the Object class implements the clone(), why is that we need to explicitly extend the Cloneable intetface when the method is already implemented.

The reason is that the clone() method is protected, so you cannot simply call your superclass's clone method. You have to create your own and declare that you implement Cloneable. The reason is that the super class's clone method may not (and in fact, probably is not) suitable for your class. So in their infinite wisdom, the creators of Java make you implement your own clone method.

  • Does Leopard record your Mac's serial number anywhere (logs, etc)?

I recently sold an old Mac, but would like to pull up its serial number. It occurred to me that I have a full clone of the hard drive.
Would the OS have recorded the boot-device's serial number anywhere? I breezed through the log files, but couldn't find anything.
    Any ideas?

If you bought that old Mac, new, you may have other options
for getting the product's serial number from an old email or
other receipt from sales, service, AppleCare or other source.
Products bought online from Apple's store generate an email
receipt and also paperwork from the transaction should have
    the serial number.
A clone of the software on an external hard disk drive should
not have recorded the information from the original computer
since that would've been supported by the Mac's Firmware.
That data is not normally in the hard disk drive; though it is
available to System Profiler, probably on demand when run.
Someone technical may be able to substantiate the path
the computer takes to display the information stored in
    firmware when the software displays this during inquiry;
and IF any hidden data may have survived the cloning,
where it may be found. I doubt a clone would have the data.
If that were available in the clone, so would the firmware version.
As that is generally in the same location the serial number would
be saved. A clone can boot an identical hardware version of a
computer it was made from, and it "knows" to show the current
serial number and technical data from the new host, in Profiler.
So, that data is probably as distant from the Clone as the Mac.
You may be able to contact the new owner and ask, for your
records (having transferred ownership & responsibility) to get
the serial number and reaffirm the date of transfer, too. - You
should have made out a bill of sale including the SN just in case
the computer became a hotbed of illegal yet traceable activity!
Lucky you, if that were so, it'd likely be traced via internet, first.
    {Just kind of kidding, there.}
Or check with the place you bought the computer from to see
if they may have a record of the transaction or have better ideas.
Apple sales support & AppleCare would be likely, if new to you.
My newer computers had email receipts and paperwork in boxes.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Hardware doubts when i clone a database

    dear all
i want clone my database in manual way (Note:458450.1) but my question is:
Can i clone a DB if my hardware server destiny have less performance than the production server ???
    Here are my facts:
    source:
    - HP 64 BITS
    - 4 GB RAM
    - RHEL AS VERSION 5 - 64 bits
    - oracle 10g r2
    destiny:
    - hp 32 bits
    - 1GB RAM
    - rhel as version 4 - 32 BITS.
    - ORACLE 10G R2
If this is possible i must to change what parameters aboot MEMORY in SPFILE.ORA?
    Thanks and apologize my english,
    cesar.

    Yes. You can do that.
Just follow the steps given in Note:458450.1 to clone the DB to new box.
also check the metalink Note:62290.1 -- Changing between 32-bit and 64-bit Word Sizes as the source and destination boxes wordsize is different.
"The on-disk format for database data, redo, and undo is identical for the 32-bit and 64-bit installations of Oracle”
The only internal structural differences between the 32-bit and 64-bit oracle installations are the following:
    · The compiled format of PL/SQL is different.
    · The storage format of user-defined types (object types, REFs, varrays, and nested tables) is based on the release of Oracle that created the database.
    · The existing storage format will be converted to the correct format transparently when necessary.
    so...
    1. copy all the control , redo , datafiles , init.ora files to destination box
    2. Start the DB in upgrade mode
    SQL>Startup Upgrade
    3. Run @$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlirp.sql to recompile all the pl/sql objects
    4. Check the validity of the packages and recompile If invalid.
example: select owner, object_name, object_type from dba_objects Where status <> 'VALID'
    5. restart the DB.
Hope this helps. Let me know if any questions.

  • Creating a clone of MBP for future transfer to new Mac

    Hi
Using CCC and a 1TB external drive, I have just created a full version clone of my current 13" MBP 1TB (it boots okay, apps work fine, Parallels works fine, so all looks good).  My purpose is that I want to give the MBP to a good friend and buy a new MBP at Christmas.
That being the case, will I be able to use Setup Assistant to transfer all my apps, files and settings to the new Mac from the clone on my HD?  Is a bootable clone the best way to go to get my old apps and settings on the new system?
I'm not overly worried about files since I use Dropbox for data but I don't really want to have to reinstall all the applications and re-create my environment if I can help it.
Or would it be better to create a Time Machine backup to the external HD?  Can you use Time Machine in conjunction with Setup Assistant for this kind of thing?
    Thanks a lot
    Andrew

The logical way to import all your files, apps and settings is to use Setup Assitant (not Migration Assistant) on the first boot of the new system. I don't recall whether a cloned image works with Setup Assistant , but a Time Machine backup will certainly work without a doubt. Within Setup Assistent, you chose and old Mac, its TM Backup, or a PC, and connect to it. I wonder if connecting to a clone image will be seen as another Mac. I have my doubts. But if someone here has actually done it, then there you go.

  • Using Clone tool in Photoshop CS causes F9 to randomly activate

I'm not sure if this is a Photoshop problem or an OSX problem. I have posted on the Adobe site, but there was only one response and that didn't tell me much. And then I thought: it might actually be an OSX problem.
When using the clone tool in Photoshop CS, after an hour or so, under circumstances that I have not been able to replicate, PS starts to activate F9 on a continuing basis. Sometimes only once (all open windows appear separated); sometimes twice in quick succession; sometimes three or four times. The effect is exactly the same as pressing F9 1, 2, 3 or 4 times every couple of minutes.
I get around the problem by shutting all other windows (then the PS window I'm working in doesn't get changed - I just click on it to bring it back if it has been F9ed); or if the F9s get too annoying I shut down PS and start again.
Is this activation of F9 likely to be:
    * a PS bug (somehow it is activating F9)?; or
    * an OSX bug (PS does something and OSX triggers F9)?
I have not had the problem occur anytime except cloning in PS. I doubt it has anything to do with Expose (as the PS poster thought) because I do not use Expose.
The problem appears to me to be almost random. It might be in my particular setup, but I suspect that PS and/or OSX are going slightly haywire in a very esoteric way under certain vague circumstances. How's that for a non-specific description of the behaviour

This is an issue seen from time to time with Photoshop.  The Photoshop team has said they're going to take another look at it, over on the Photoshop bugfix / feature request forum (http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/_adobe_community_help_keeps_popping_ open).
Not everyone sees this, so take heart, it can work well.
One source of random corruption seen with Photoshop can be from buggy display drivers.  OpenGL implementations in display drivers are changing to this very minute.
You can try disabling OpenGL Drawing  for a while, do some editing and watch to see if it still happens.  You'd do this via Edit - Preference - Performance, and remember to restart Photoshop after making the change and before testing.
Or you can visit the web site of the maker of your video card and download/install their latest drivers.  I recommend this, no matter what else you do.

  • Help with BBOD!  Can't seem to get to the bottom of it.  Have tried SMC reset, PRAM reset, reinstall of Mavericks, Carbon copy clone, checked my CPU, Memory is 500GB and I'm only using 250GB thereabouts.

    Here's what I've tried;
    SMC reset
    Pram reset
Looked at activity monitor - mostly seems OK aside from a kernel task taking up memory (approx 460MB) but CPU is around 96% idle.
Fan seems to be running constantly - heats up noticeably when I close the MBP
Despite a re-install of Mavericks, MBP is running frustratingly slow.  Just typing is enough to bring on the beach ball.
Have backed up everything, reinstalled from a clone, checked through Apple Hardware test and carried out a Verify Disk Permission - nothing was reported, erased the drive and set up again - problem still stands.
Memory is running at 3.43 GB without anything really running bar Safari.
A little loath to install SMC fan control without knowing what's wrong.
    Checked software updates.
Can anyone tell me what the matter is?  Does this have a fix?
Have been reading up various posts but to no avail so have resorted to posting myself.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
    Many, many thanks
    Roque

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Clone old 10.8.2 from MacBook Pro to new i7 iMac 27inch OK to do?

My question is, is there anything special about the 10.8 installation that will come with my new i7 27 inch iMac that would make it a bad idea for me to simply clone my current 10.8.2 system from my 5 year old MacBook Pro 1,3 to the new iMac when it arrives?
As in does OS X 10.8 know what type of Mac it's getting installed on and thus installs different graphics/hardware drivers?
I want to clone directly from my old MacBook Pro because I have SO MUCH software on there that works perfectly as-is, would take hours and hours to install and update from scratch again, not to mention some software I know for a fact will give me heachaches when I need to re-authorize it on the new machine but would work perfectly if I were to just Carbon Copy clone it all.
I know how to re-activate the driver for the USB superdrive I'm getting with the iMac.
    But is there anything else?
Oh and the iMac is coming with the 3TB fusion drive.
Please only respond to this if you know any of the answers from direct experience and not assumptions.
    Thanks I appreciate your time.

I doubt it. Although the iMac may be running 10.8.2 it is more then likely a Special Build for the newest hardware in the iMac. Apple does that with ever New Mac they come out with.
So if you cloned your 10.8.2 version of Mt Lion from a Macbook Pro the iMac may not boot as that copy would not have the correct drivers for the iMac.
The only way to get the version that ships on new Macs is to use the Internet Recovery system. The is setup to give you the correct version for the New Mac you are using.

  • Export/import to clone database -- please advise

    Hi All,
Need help especially from exports that are strong in export/import.
can someone advise me how to use export/import to clone a database?
I know how to clone database using cold backup and hot backup.
But wish to know the full steps in using export/import to do cloning.
I'm going to do a full export on my "TEST" database, drop the database, create a database and import using the full export.
After doing a full database export, full=y. What are the steps to follow. Have a few doubts about it.
    1) export the database (full=y)
    2) drop the database
    3) re-create the database, will be using the same name "TEST".
    4) create the users (IDs created by DBA, eg: schemas), tablespace and datafiles. --> import doesn't do it right?
    5) do a full import (full=y). In this step, will i encounter any problems? As in understand that all the oracle-owned objects (example SYSTEM, SYS, AUX) are already in the newly created database, will import full=y cause any problems?
    6) do i have to re-create the roles, SYNONYMS and grant role, sys, obj privileges to IDs not created by oracle. (example schema owner)
in short i would like to know what EXPORT will export and not export
what IMPORT will import and not import.
    Please advise.

    Hi zetabouy,
thanks for ur input, definately helpful for me.
just to confirm. am i right to say that only a full database level (full=y) export/import will export/import out roles as well as public synonyms? because i have tried also exporting a user from the database, and imported that user into a different database, but public synonyms and roles were not imported.
    one more question:
For example we are going to do port data from production to uat database using export and import for only the schema.
After exporting from production with such syntax (owner=OWNER01),
is is better to drop all objects beloging to the schema owner in UAT before importing it (touser=OWNER01, ignore=y) using the production dumpfile?
I'm asking this question as I'm afraid that if we did not drop all the pl/sql objects in UAT database, the updated procedures/fuctions/triggers exported from the production database will not get imported to the UAT database as UAT database have the same procedures/fuctions/triggers names (but not updated code) .
will profiles be exported and imported too duing full database level exp/imp?
    please kindly advise.
    thanks

  • Clone Stamp and Healin Brush not Working

I am also having problems with this healing brush and clone stamp tool
I am running Windows 7 (64 bit on a powerful computer with 6 Gb Ram and pleanty of HDD space.)
I am using a wired mouse and do not have a tablet connected.
I have duplicated the Background as a backgound copy ab\nd mad the backgound invisible ther backgound copy layer is selected and is made visible.
Clicking on the either tool, I move the cursor to the source area I wish to clone from and [Alt]-Click. I then try to love the cursor to the destination area, the part I want to cover up with material from the source area.
What happens is the entire image moves showing as I move the mouse, revealing an other image below that does not move.
Either I do not understand what these tools are supposed to do, (I doubt that because I have used this tool several times in PSE 6 without problems.) or there is something terribly wrong with the program.
I underststand, fronm reading the forums that the same problem exists in CS4.
I have checked for updates but the only update that I have not downloaded and installed is support for Raw files from newer cameras.
PS The files I am working on are originally JPGs and have not been converted from any other file type.
Below is a screen shot illustrating the offset image.
Thanks for any help you may offer.
BTW Does Adobe support this program? I can only find help this kind of help in the forums.

    Hi,
This looks like you have the overlay feature turned on for the tool. When you select the clone or healing brush, look up in the options bar and select the icon for more options. Uncheck the box that says "Overlay".  I am not sure if each one is independently set in Elements or if a check mark turning on or off overlay effects both tools as it does with Photoshop.
I don't have a copy of Elements that includes this feature but on the option bar the icon that you need to click is located below where it says "sign in" in the editor...to the right of where it says "all layers"---square icon.
Edit: See Post #1 in which Barbara has a screen shot showing where to look in Elements to turn on/off the screen overlay feature.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/738288
Edit: I see while I was increasing my neighbor's herd of cows...MTSTUNER has posted another screenshot of the options panel. I'll leave this up anyway just in case you also have CS4.
This is a screen shot of The clone source palette settings that control the overlay in Photoshop CS3.  I'll include this screenshot of where to look in Photoshop just in case you also have CS4 since you mentioned looking through the Photoshop forum for the answer.  In Photoshop, this feature can be turned on/off in the clone source palette. The check mark will effect both clone stamp and healing brush...they share the current setting.
I actually forgot that this feature also effected the healing brush as well as the clone stamp. Want to guess how I keep mine set? LOL.
To be fair, I guess looking at this image I could see with a low opacity setting how it could be useful if I wanted to increase this herd of cows.

  • Doubt in pass of connection by parameter

I have a technical doubt about pass of parameters. I have a method to which I pass as parameter a connection with database like 'public void ejecutarSelect (Connection with, String selec)'. The connection comes opened to the method, and it only executes the select. The connection is closed out of the method.
Here my doubt comes. In java all parameter passed to a method is for value, I mean, to the beginning of the method is created a copy of the variables passed by parameter and at the end of the method it destroys them. But in case of the connection, does the method copy the pointer to the connection or really it clon the connection with database? I am interested becuase I want to know if I would be leaving connections open.
    Thanks.

Java passes all parameters by value. Parameters hold primitive types and Object references (not Objects). In your case the Object reference is being passed by value but that in effect causes the Object (Connection in your case) to be passed by reference.

i have a doubt regarding cloning between 2 servers
if i have oracle database 10g installed on a server and i wish to create a clone of the same database in some other server.
is it necessary that the oracle database 10g must be installed on the target system.
kindly provide me the steps for creating clone database in a separate server

    i have one more doubt
if i take closed db backup of source instance and put it in the taget instance wat about the already existing datafiles in the target oracle instance If you take closed backup of source instance and want to restore it on another instance, there shouldn't be any datafile on the another instance. I mean any datafile of the database which you clone
can i restore the backedup datafiles from source instance to the target instance datafile location.is it the right procedure.wat about the already existing datafliles, logfiles and controlfiles in the target instanceSure you can. And you can rename and relocate that datafiles to another location at the target instance. There shouldn't be any datafile, controlfile and redo log file at the target instance
    is it a right procedure.
i need to clone the source database and put it in the target instance and clone it.
wat about the existing datafiles, controlfiles and logfiles in the target instance. You're asking the same question third time :) I'd suggest you to install only Oracle Software to the target instance and clone the source database to the target server using DUPLICATE DATABASE command of RMAN

    Hi All,
The clone is ready now it is prepared using cold backup from PROD. I have some doubts ,after making clone as I did .The doubt is if I am taking backup for PROD on daily basis using export full command, My clone is prepared on example 01 OCT and I need to restore on 10 OCT from recent backup(example 9th OCT) on clone instance. On this point what I have to perform to restore using import command?
Do after full importing on clone database will be exactly same as it is as PROD?
Example In Prod there are created new tablespace, new user etc on this point do I have to create new tablespace, new user on clone instance first then import ?
If nothing is created on PROD after making clone then no need to perform anything just full import on clone instance and it will be same as PROD?
    Thanks

  • Working off a clone on an old machine?

I have a G5 iMac running 10.4.8 and clone my entire internal hard drive to an external Firewire drive. I am working on a project with a friend who has an older (Sunflower) iMac and is running 10.2, Jaguar. We want to get together to collaberate on our project but I want to work off of the original files I have on my computer. She does not have all of the application I have and that we use for the project, including a newer version of iLife. Here is my question.
Can I take my external hard drive which has a current clone, to my friend's house, plug it into the Firewire port on her older iMac and boot to the external drive so it is like I am working on my machine? Would there be any issues with drivers, screen resolution, etc? I know my printers would not work but that is not an issue at the mement.
    Any thoughts?
    David

While it is extremely doubtful that her machine would boot, even if she has a firewire port on her machine, as long as you can connect the drive you can have her create you an account and copy your own ~/Library folder into this new account. You would then be able to run many of your applications off the firewire drive. Some of them may also require some files from your /Library folder, most likely things in /Library/Application Support (copy these over too). You should be able to get most things to work. And of course you can access your files off the firewire drive.

  • Apps 11i clone RAC to Non RAC

    Hi hussein,
I have 4 node 11i applications with PCP and Load balancer. Now we have a requirement to clone it to single node.
    OS     = Linux 4.6
    Apps   = 11.5.10.2
    *Node details:*
    database:
    Database RAC1 = 10.2.0.4
    Database RAC2 = 10.2.0.4
    Shared db        = ocfs2
    Application:
Apps01 = Form, web, admin, conc
Apps02 = Form, web, admin, concI referred tech notes:
Certified RAC Scenarios for E-Business Suite Cloning [ID 783188.1]
From this tech note it seems this scenario is not certified with rapidclone.
*Cloning Oracle Applications Release 11i with Rapid Clone [ID 230672.1]*
*Manually Cloning Oracle Applications Release 11i with 10g or 11g RAC [ID 760637.1]*
For database I will use rman backup and use duplicate command to clone it. Now i have doubt for application tier.
I performed so many multi-node to single-node clones with split configurartion (form, web, admin - node1) and (conc , db -node2), in this situation i used adpreclone.pl merge appsTier on node1 and adpreclone.pl merge appl_top on node two.
Now I am confused how to do it. As all services exists on both nodes.
Do i need to run merge appsTier on both nodes? or merge appsTier on one node and merge app_top on other? or no need to run merge appsTier? confused :(
    Any pointers on this appreciated.
Thanks for your support as always :)

    Hi Hussein,
    Many thanks for tech note.
I performed so many multi-node to single-node clones with split configurartion (form, web, admin - node1) and (conc , db -node2), in this situation i used adpreclone.pl merge appsTier on node1 and adpreclone.pl merge appl_top on node two.So same on node 1 i need to run preclone with merge appsTier and node two just merge appl_top right. As per the tech note.
    thanks,
