Creating a clone of MBP for future transfer to new Mac

Hi
Using CCC and a 1TB external drive, I have just created a full version clone of my current 13" MBP 1TB (it boots okay, apps work fine, Parallels works fine, so all looks good). My purpose is that I want to give the MBP to a good friend and buy a new MBP at Christmas.
That being the case, will I be able to use Setup Assistant to transfer all my apps, files and settings to the new Mac from the clone on my HD? Is a bootable clone the best way to go to get my old apps and settings on the new system?
I'm not overly worried about files since I use Dropbox for data but I don't really want to have to reinstall all the applications and re-create my environment if I can help it.
Or would it be better to create a Time Machine backup to the external HD? Can you use Time Machine in conjunction with Setup Assistant for this kind of thing?

The logical way to import all your files, apps and settings is to use Setup Assitant (not Migration Assistant) on the first boot of the new system. I don't recall whether a cloned image works with Setup Assistant , but a Time Machine backup will certainly work without a doubt. Within Setup Assistent, you chose and old Mac, its TM Backup, or a PC, and connect to it. I wonder if connecting to a clone image will be seen as another Mac. I have my doubts. But if someone here has actually done it, then there you go.

There are adapters available that convert micro cards into fullsize ones.
You will also need a USB card reader if you do not have one.

Create a subsequent Goods Movement for a transfer posting

Hi Team,
I have a scenario where the users will create a Good Movement document for transfer posting. The Stock of Material "A" is transferred to stock of Material "B" using the movement types 561 etc. Now the quantity is reduced from unrestricted stock of "A" and posted to "Stock in Transfer/Transit" of "B". The requirement is to create another Goods Movement document immediately after the above transfer posting is completed and use movement type 101 to post the same quantity to unrestricted of "B".
I tried searching for use exits and could not find a relevant one "After Save" for goods movement online transaction. I found the MB_GOODS_MOVEMENT_UPDATE Badi but don't know how to create another goods movement document while in the update task. I'm concerned that if I call a BAPI or BDC inside the update task, it might conflict with the current transaction (transfer posting). Looking for your guidance.

Hi Deepali,
You can use the userexit ' ZXMCBU02 ' to write your own code. This user exit gets triggered for almost all the goods movement transaction.
There is also a very similar BADI which you can use which gets triggered for every goods movement transaction.
I would like to know the BADI feel free to let me know. I think the above user exit should server your purpose.

Moving my project from PC to Mac for future editing on the Mac.

I have created a project on adobe premiere elements 12 on my PC and need to move the project across to my new Mac for future editing. Is this possible and if so how can I do it?

As John Nash points out, project files (project.prel files) created in Premiere Elements Windows will not work in Premiere Elements Mac and vice versa.
Projects taken to completion in the program/operating system in which they are created is the way to go.
If at all practical and depending on the "need to do" feature, you might export the Premiere Elements Windows Timeline to a .mov or .mp4
file and then import that into a new Premiere Elements Mac project. The level of edits in Premiere Elements Mac would dictate the degree of cutting of the Timeline content in order to accomplish the wanted edits in Premiere Elements Mac.

I created a different Apple ID for my Icloud on my new IPhone (said a free email was available or something similar) rather than the other choice offered of using my same existing Apple ID. Now I keep having issues accessing my account and my password isn't working to access Icloud to download Itunes. Can I undo this new account I created and just use my one existing Apple ID? This is my first IPhone and confused with this part of the setup! Thanks.

If you know the answers to your security questions, you should be able to change your password without using email authentication (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HE36). If you don't, you may be out of luck.

Acrobat XI Pro Serial Number Invalid after transfer to new Mac

I recently got the new MacBook Pro OS X 10.9 and when I started up my computer I transferred all of my information over to my new Mac from my old MacBook (2008 version).
I was happy that my Acrobat XI Pro transfered over, but it only transfered as a "trial" software and all previous records of purchasing my sofware in my account at Adobe are now gone. I thought I would be fine because the trial software frequently reminds me that it is a trial, and prompts me for my serial number. I have my serial number from my previous Acrobat saved and entered that number. When I do, this message pops up,
"This serial number is not valid for Acrobat XI Pro. You can either use a valid serial number for Acrobat XI Pro or use this serial number on the appropriate product."
What???
Please help, my trial ends soon and I've run out of options. I can't lose this expensive software!

Adobe does not recommend using any migration software to transfer the software.
Please remove Acrobat and reinstall it and use the serial number to activate it.

Data transfer to new mac from timemachine...

My old macbook (2009 June) model broke. So i am buying a macbook pro. I have all my data in time machine, how can i transfer them to new mac?
Is it also possible to migrate applications like microsoft office which I bought for the other mac to new one? or should I buy a new license?
Can I also migrate settings in Mail program...

Thank you for your response. The new Mac will have all of the system stuff and some of the included software like iLife that I won't want to transfer. What I do want to transfer will be 3rd party software like PhotoShop and other Adobe CS3 items and Quicken, things like that.
My suspicion is that if there were anything in the way of corrupted files that are contributing to this iMac's slow deterioration they would probably be somewhere in the system files and I won't need those on the new iMac.
On one occasion I had to reinstall the system on this iMac and I used Time Machine and the thing I really liked was that my preferences and most settings came over intact, and I want to do that with this transfer. I think I remember having a lot of options as to what to restore and if I'm right the transfer to the new iMac should go well and my fears will have been otiose.

Question: how do I move my entire library PLUS ALL THE ASSOCIATED PLAYLISTS/RATING HISTORY/SKIP HISTORY/PLAYCOUNT HISTORY/etc, WITHOUT CREATING DUPLICATES, to my new mac from my Vista machine?
My situation: Vista machine; meta data saved on my Vista machine hard drive*, but the music files are on an external hard drive.
Solution: ???. (I'm guessing it's as simple as saving the library meta file to a cd, then put the cd in the mac, and double click the file, and then all that library info would be added to iTunes on the mac .... but then how do you then add the music to the mac so that the library finds each song that it's supposed to find, without creating duplicates, while keeping all your rating history, skip history, playcount, playlists, etc???)

File transfer to new mac mini

I have a new mac mini. My old one had an airport card that died, hence the purchase. There are two connecters described in the manual, firewire and another. What is the best way to transfer files given the circumstances? Thanks for any assistance

+1 for firewire.
if you boot the source Mac in target disk mode, it will show up as a regular external firewire drive on the target Mac's desktop.
now you can drag & drop files between the two machines.

We can see thumbnails of horizontal photos but can't see full size photos after data transfer to new mac

We just updated to a new mac from a 7 year old Mac because the logic board died. =The Apple reseller did a data transfer and now we cannot see full size photos on our new screen. We see the thumb nails but when we try to open a photo in the photo section of the library we get a black screen with an exclaimation mark. How do we fix this?

When you first boot your new Mac, it will boot into Setup Assistant. It will walk you through registration and then ask you if you want to migrate. Choose the disk you want to migrate from and choose all settings. No newer apps will be overwritten with older ones. No third party software will be lost. Although you should check compatiblity of apps with ML.

Reinstalling Camera RAW plug-in for CS4 on my new Mac - help!

This is as much a Mac question as a Photoshop question, and I would appreciate any help.
I just got a new Mac, and when I transferred everything from my old computer to the new one, something didn't move over from CS4, such that whenever I opened a TIF file, it would tell me that there was a missing component, which would then force quit the program. So I reinstalled CS4, but when I re-downloaded the Camera RAW plug-in (5.7), my Mac won't let me install it, saying that it only allows downloads from the App store (referring to the .mpkg file). In the security preferences, it says "download anyway," but then it repeats the message. The option to allow all sorts of downloads remains gray, such that I can't even select it.
Any advice would be very much appreciated, either in terms of the Mac or the Photoshop! Thanks!

This should be an automated installer for camera raw 5.7:
Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 5.7 update
The camera raw plugin 5.7 for a manual install should go in:
Mac Hard Drive: Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS4/File Formats
(click on the image below to enlarge)
Be sure to move the old camera raw plugin to the trash before copying the new one to the File Formats folder
Also, install the camera profiles.

Elements 11: missing components during transfer to new mac

I'm trying unsuccessfully to transfer Photoshop Elements 11 from old mac to new one which doesn't have a disc drive, using migration assistant.
When trying to open the editor the following error message is seen:
"some of the application components are missing from the application directory please reinstall the application > ok > a required application library failed to load and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application"
I've tried migrating it 3 times and can't reinstall it on the new mac because it doesn't have a disc drive; I've also tried ringing Adobe UK to no avail and tried live chat but no-one is available. Any help greatfully received, thank you!

thanks again, but what will happen when the trial finishes? I only purchased Elements 11 in January and would obviously prefer to avoid buying a digital download now. Migration assistant should copy across all the components then the problem would be solved!
Is there anyone at Adobe I can contact about this issue please?

IPhoto - Backup failure after transfer to new Mac

I just migrated everything over from my iMac to the new Mac Pro and plugged in the external hard drive I'd been using to back files up using the .Mac utility "Backup." I made no changes to the schedules I'd set up previously. All backup schedules are working except for the iPhoto one. I get a "Backup has failed" message after it works away for a while. Does this imply my iPhoto file is corrupt in some way, or what might be happening here?

Have p.s. elements 10 on windows 7, can I transfer to new MAC?

I am having a ton of problems with my windows based toshiba to the point that i can not use photshop elements 10 on it. Is there a way to download it on my new MAC without having to re purchase it?

It depends on how you bought if. If you got a boxed version originally, you can go here and download the mac version and it should work:
Download Photoshop Elements products | 13, 12, 11, 10
However, if you bought a download version, it probably won't accept your serial number. For one of those mysterious adobe reasons, boxed versions get serial numbers that work on either platform, while downloads only work on one, usually.
