Downloading legally purchased DVDs to I-Tunes so I can watch on my iPod

I want to download my LEGALLY PURCHASED DVDs to iTunes to watch on my iPod. How do I do this? If I can't do it, then why is it illegal since I purchased the DVD at a store? Thanks!

This is illegal.
It is illegal because our legal system and many around the world have ruled it illegal.

Hello, I recently brought a new mac and I want to download my purchases into my I tunes. When I go to I store puchases the Download button is not live and says downloaded. They are onto my old computer. How do I get it to download again to my new authorised computer. Thank you for helping

Copy them from your old computer. Copy them from the
back up of your old computer.
Are you logged on under the same Apple ID that you used
to make the purchses? What are you trying to download?
Not all types of media can be downloaded in all locations.

  • I have an Ipod classic sync'd to a PC. The PC is no longer working. I purchased a new MacBook pro. How can I sync the Ipod to the new Macbook pro

I have an Ipod classic sync'd to a PC. The PC is no longer working. I purchased a new MacBook pro. How can I sync the Ipod to the new Macbook pro

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the Mac as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your Mac first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Downloading commercially purchased DVD's to iTunes

I have some commercially purchased DVD's that I want to download in either iTunes or onto my iMac intel mid 2010. I would like to be able to download them and sync them to my Verizon iPhone 4. Any suggestions on how to do this?

I am going to assume that you mean DVD movies you bought at a store? If that is the case, I want to say that legally you can not copy them. They have Copy Protections built into the disc that prevents you from making backups or copying them to another device. They do sell movies that have 'digital copies' available that you can use on your iPhone etc, but that is dependent on the movie. Now there are ways around it which I wont say as I do not want to violate apple's TOS, however I would google it and look for programs that can copy dvd's to iphones and itunes, etc. Be aware that you are looking at several gigabytes of information per movie.

  • Why do we have to pay to upgrade, just to download the latest version of I-Tunes, when u can do it free on a P.C

Why is it we have to go to the trouble of paying for and upgrading the OS version, i currently have 10.4.11, just to download the latest I-Tunes onto my Mac. We have a P.C running I-Tunes and we can download the latest version without the "upgrade". Our I-phones/I-Touches work on the P.C without a problem.

Surprisingly enough... I think this is the first time I've seen that question asked.  Apple regularly makes significant changes to the underlying code in their OS when they release new versions.  This sometimes breaks compatibility with earlier versions of software/applications.  This helps to keep the operating system lean and avoids the performance issues which can build up over time with attempting to maintain compatibility with older versions of software.  Microsoft cannot make significant changes to thier underlying code as they need to maintain backwards compatability for quite a few years (mostly to support the vast majority of businesses that run on the Windows platform).  Apple needs to regularly update iTunes in order to address new features/hardware, but it also updates it to be compatible with newer versions of the OS (nearly every update to OS X comes with an update to iTunes).  Unfortunately, sometimes the latest version may no longer be compatible with older versions of the OS.

  • After a total windows re install , i re installed i tunes now i can't connect my ipod to i tunes

after i had to re-install my computer windows 7, i had to re-install i-tunes, but now i can't get my ipod to connect to i-tunes

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect OK before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings, yes a gain
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Export a purchased Dvd to I-Tunes for Apple TV

I have a dvd that I purchased that I would like to download to my itunes account. The service hot line says I need the digital version which is only available on newer dvds. My question is there a way to download to itunes or is there a third party software download that will enable me to. Thanks

I understand what you're asking. What you own is the piece of plastic that is the DVD and certain rights. What you were not sold was the right to copy the DVD. The doctrine of Fair Use was pretty much gutted in the U.S. by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). The DCMA is the law that makes it illegal to break the encryption on the DVD. What you intend to do with the copy you make is irrelevant to the legal question.
In short, it's illegal to copy a commercial DVD in the U.S. and against the rules for us to discuss how to do that here.
    Sorry.

  • I have a ton of movies, TV shows "downloaded" on my iPad...specifically so I can watch when flying.  Everything now has that stupid iCloud icon next to it and i can't watch them...on a plane or at home...what the ****?

Downloaded movies and TV shows onto iPad to watch while traveling.  Everything now has iCloud icon next to it.  Can't play anything???

The download symbol indicates they aren't downloaded to you iPad.  If you don't want to see the ones with the download symbol go to Settings>iTunes & App Store and turn Videos off under Show All.

  • I am having trouble downloading a purchased movie from ITunes Help

I am having trouble downloading a purchased movie from I tunes It keeps telling me there is an error and to tap and try again but all fails Help

I agree. I don't rely on iCloud as a backup, that is what I have my portable hard drive for. Its 500 GB so I can hold my entire iTunes library several times over on it. I have all my movies on my hard drive, but somehow "The Mist" got deleted off of my hard drive, so I figured "Well, the option to redownload an already purchased movie is available through iCloud, I'll just do that!"
And permissions and download availability have nothing to do with it, the movie's still there, it still allows me to redownload it. The only problem is when I click download, I get that message.
And nobody else uses my computer, but I do have multiple accounts authorized on it. Even still though, I am attepmpting to download it through the account I purchased it under. :/

  • HT201272 Difficult to Download Past Purchases on iPhone 5.

I have an older Macbook that can't go up to 10.6 and therefore won't download iTunes 10.7 - making it impossible to sync my iPhone.  This is really not cool.
Therefore, I started downloading directly to the iPhone - but it's really difficult (there is, purposely, no "download all purchases" option).
On iPhone 5, you can see past purchases by Artist only, not by album.  This makes compilation albums (soundtracks, classical, any album with multiple artists) a rain pain to download.
Is there a fix coming for that?  I'd like to look at purchases based on ALBUM, and then elect to download the ALBUM.

    Hello BW1968,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • HT201272 I have OS 3.1.3 how do I go about Downloading past purchases from the App Store

I have OS 3.1.3 how do I go about Downloading past purchases from the App Store?

You can download the current versions of the apps from the store e.g. via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading. But you may find that the current versions require higher iOS versions than you have on your iPod - in which case have you not got copies of the older versions of those apps on your computer's iTunes or on a backup ?

  • Downloadable file on DVD menu?

My client would like to include his powerpoint presentation to be downloadable from the DVD menu of his video. Can this be done...or can I only put a link to a website that recipients can click on if viewing the DVD from their computer..where, in turn, the file coule be downloaded from.

It's possible, but to do so you need to use DVD@ccess or eDVD or Intellidisc.
With @ccess you simply use a button to go to a new menu and embed the url for the file into that menu. As your viewer arrives at the menu then the link is activated and if there is a viewer for the file it will launch over the top of your DVD player app and play back the show.
However, it is notoriously flaky on PCs - it may not even work at all... on Macs it is more reliable, but folks still find issues with it.
It's probably better to stick to using some text on a menu to let people know that the file is there for them to access manually.
