Downloading Video from a Canon Digtal Video Camcorder FS100 - flash camera

I just purchased a Canon FS100 Digital Flash Camera from Best Buy. However, there is no software available that I can find to download the movies to my G4 and then edit and view them. I'm currently running a G4 Model Name: Power Mac G4
Model Identifier: PowerMac3,6
Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
Processor Speed: 1 GHz
Number Of CPUs: 1
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
Memory: 512 MB
Running Mac OS X 10.5.5 (9F33)
software. I cannot use iMovie because my computer is too old. Is there any software available that I can use for this camcorder. the box said that there was no software for the Mac OS system. However, the tech said that you can use this camera on a Mac.
Thanks

Hello, Dave
Have you taken a tape shot on the GL-1 and used the
Sony camera to capture the footage via firewire? Do
the vertical stripes show up when shooting 4:3?
Yes, I have done that and yes, the vertical stripes still appear. The vertical stripes appear both in 4:3 and 16:9 footage.
If the vertical lines don't show up on your NTSC
preview monitor, I wouldn't worry about it. They are
probably outside of the safe area and won't affect
its viewability much.
You are probably right, Dave, it's quite possible that the vertical stripes are outside of the safe area in 4:3. However, I am new to 16:9. Is this the case also in 16:9? I am talking about maybe 20 or 30 pixels wide black bands on either side of the frame.
If you are capturing the video via analog from the
canon into some type of DV bridge, These vertical
bands are normal and represent horizontal sync
characteristics.
No, I am capturing the video directly through Firewire.
Canon does several tings in anunique way that differs
from what a person would expect. You may have
stumbled onto one of Canon's quirks.
I think you are right about that too. I emailed Canon technical support a little Quicktime movie containing two shots, one from the GL-1 and one from the Sony, but I haven't heard back from them yet...
Hope this helps. Post back.
Regards,
Dave F

  • How do I export video from a Canon Optura 30 camcorder to my iMac/ iMovies? I've tried a Firewire cable but imovies doesn't seem to recognise the camcorder.

I've been trying to export video from my Canon Optura 30 camcorder to imovies with a firewire lead, however nothing happens and imovies doesn't semm to reconise the camcorder. Can anyone help please?

Here is a compatibility chart for iMovie:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html?lang=en_US
I did not see yours; however, as long as it has firewire, it should work. Did you read the instructions in both your camcorder manual and in iMovie on the steps needed?
If you can't get it to work after following the steps, what format does it record in? Is it on a memory card? If so, it'd be easy: just use a USB card reader, plug it in and import your footage that way.

  • Capturing AVCHD video from a Canon VIXIA HG21 camcorder to FCE 4.01

Video captured at the highest resolution MXP i60 seems to stutter after importing to FCE 4.01. I know that playback on a computer monitor will show these signs but after burning with iDVD and played on a TV set, it still is jerky when panning a moving image.
I've read most of the posts concerning this. I have read that FCE will only accept 29.97 frame rates in several posts and other posts show "i60 presets support both 60i and 29.97 frame rates".
I read where I should reset my FCE preferences but I don't seem to have any. I looked in Library Preferences and could not find a "com.apple.finalcutexpress.plist" or the "final Cut Express User Data" folder.
Sure could use some help from those who use that camcorder and FCE.

I also shoot and edit with the HG21 but haven't experienced any such problems. Do your sequence settings match your clip settings in every regard? You definitely shot in 60i and not 30p? Did you fully render your sequence before exporting?
I've found there's a lot of interlacing when panning quickly, but it hasn't been jerky for me. Does it appear this way on the camera too? It may have been that you did not pan smoothly enough (such as with a good tripod).

  • How do I extract video from my Canon Vixia HF M30 to my ipad2?

I'm having a difficult time trying to extract video from my canon HF m30 camcorder to my iPad2. Tried sd card and direct USB connect. Also downloaded iMovie but that didn't help either. Are these 2 compatible? Help please

    Copied from this link.
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format.
I believe your camcorder records video in AVCHD format. If so, you will need to import the video with your computer and use a conversion utility to convert the video into a compatible format for transfer to your iPad.

No you won't, iMovie 6 will continue to work, and having two or more versions of iMovie should not be a problem.

  • Canon S95 powershot HD video quality VS canon vixea M300 camcorder

    Hi all,
I shot some video with my Powershot S95, and imported to iMovie via iPhoto. I also imported a similar video sequence (bright light, portrait, white background) from a canon vixea m200 camcorder, and the quality of the still cameras video is WAY better than the camcorder. BEtter color and much clearer/sharper. Any reason why this would be the case? Does the still camera have a much better lens? Is it something to do with how iMovie is converting the format, if it is converting it? should i get rid of my video camera and shoot my videos with this or a better still camera? Or is there something I may not be doing correctly. The HD camcorder resolution is supposed to be better than the still camera. I have a week to return the camcorder if it's no good. Is anyone else using this kind of camera and getting good results?
    thank you so much!
    Josh

Final Cut will likely provide a minimal quality boost (as it uses a higher quality codec for importing AVCHD), but beyond that I don't think you'd find it worth your money. What specifically about your imported video looks "not as clear"? Remember that your camcorder screen is always going to look like a higher resolution than your computer due to it's size.
Also bear in mind that in order to properly burn HD content to a disc, you will need a Blu-ray burner and software that will burn it (Toast 10, for example). It is possible to burn small amounts of HD content on a normal DVD, but whether or not you can do this without purchasing Toast (or something more expensive like Final Cut Studio), I can't say.

i tried to get the installation disc for the camcorder but mac wont' recognize it becaue it is windows based i guess.
i just bought the camcorder a few months ago and when my computer crashed thought i'm finally getting a mac...it's been a costly venture which has resulted in more frustration than before my pc.
now the things i want to use with my mac that i thought would be even simpler...are not even useable...
    help

That camera shoots H.264 in an .avi wrapper.
You will have to transfer the files via the Finder.
Get a free copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert them to QuickTime .mov using the H.264 codec if you are presumably editing in iMovie.
Note that your list of video codecs won't look like mine as I have Final Cut Pro, but H.264 is definitely an option for you.

  • Importing Video from a Canon 7D

Has anyone tried importing video from a Canon 7D in Aperture 3? My videos don't show up at all in the Import dialog.

Figured it out myself actually... If I switch the "RAW+JPEG Pairs" parameter to Import "Both Separate Masters" it works fine. If it's set to RAW only, it doesn't seem to see the Video files.

  • How do I import video from my canon vixia hv40 into imovie?

How do I import video from my canon vixia hv 40 into imovie?

First decide which editing program you intend to use; iMovie, FCE, FCP, Adobe Premier, etc. Read the user's manual or Help files for your chosen application to determine the steps needed: the procedure will vary somewhat from application to application.
Next, with the camera and the computer off, connect the Firewire cable to both units, then power up. Set the camera to VTR (play) mode. Open your editing program and follow the instructions provided in the Help files for capturing DV footage from tape.
Do NOT expect the camera to mount on your desktop as if it were a hard drive or optical disc.

  • Can't Import video from my Canon Z25

Hello experts, thanks if you read this! I'm new to iMovie HD, and I just bought a 4 to 6 firewire to try and import some of my video from my Canon Z25. But of course iMovie won't recognize it (no camera attached).
Is there anything to be done, or is my camera simply incompatible?
    Thank you!!!!
    --Brian S.

Hi -- thanks for all the responses so far, everyone!
First of all, my camera is a Canon ZR25MC. I didn't get the model number right the first time.
Second, I still can't get iMovieHD to recognize it. I've done everything -- sut everything down and start up again, reset the clock on my camera, check to see if it's listed in Apple System profiler. Nothing changes. I dunno -- maybe my firewire connector is bad -- but it's brand new, from Apple.
Any suggestions? Maybe I'll call Canon.
    Thank you!
