Downloads resuming

Hey,
i have to do a downloader-type application, and I was
thinking about doing it in Adobe AIR. But, I have one big question.
My app will be downloading files like 1-5 gb of size. Is it
possible to pouse/resume downloads in AIR?
Peter

Study the flash.net.URLRequestHeader documentation and the
HTTP spec. I think you want to send the Content-Range header on
resuming a download.
To stop a download in progress, call close() on your
URLLoader. I haven't tested whether this will keep the file, or if
it deletes it for you.

  • Does Servlets support downloading resuming

    Hi Everyone,
In my project, I am using servlets for downloading .exe files from an application. Here I am using servlets to open the required file and stream its contents to the response object.
Now, I want to give my users the ease of downloading big files of 91 MB in parts. Since one cannot downloading such a big file in ine shot as there may be network failures etc.,. I have installed download manager in my machine. But I can download only a part of the software. I am not able to resume from the part where I stopped last session.
Can any one suggest how can we write servlets to support download resuming.

Errata: the servlet has to set the "Content-Range" field, whereas the client seems to use "Range" and (maybe) "If-Range". See the following for definitions and examples:

  • Mac App Store Download Resume

    Hello
I'm using Mac App Store on Lion, But there is a problem with download resume. After every system restart I can't resume my previous downloads and I have to download them from the beginning, I also checked and I have no AppStore directory at this path ~/Library/Application Support/ I'm wondering if anyone have a solution for this issue.
    Regars

You won't find any App Store system files in  ~/Library/Support but you are on the right track.
Installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo) reinstalls the App Store for you. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.7.4
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed then try the App Store.
If that doesn't help, quit the App Store.
Now open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
    Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Now here:
    ~/Library/Preferences
    Click Go
Move these files from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    com.apple.appstore.plist
    com.apple.storeagent.pllist
    Now here:
    ~/Library/Cookies
    Click Go
Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
Empty the Trash, try the App Store.

  • Downloads resume from zero, not where they left off

I know this is a tired question, but it STILL HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY APPLE. Why do interrupted downloads start back at zero instead of picking up where they left off? Is this too difficult of a bug for the iTunes engineers to deal with? Being overseas in a country with very slow internet connections, this is the most irritating issue I've ever dealt with. It's almost impossible to download podcasts because they always get interrupted somehow, then I have to start from scratch every time. Thinking it's time to consider ditching Mac + iTunes for something more reliable....
Will someone from Apple please explain why downloads do not resume correctly?

I am having the same problems, and this is driving to distraction, if the internet line for a second runs to zero MB per sec, I get kicked off the download and have to start from the beginning. There must be a way to start where the download stopped.

  • How do I copy and paste a downloaded resume into/onto a job application in a potential employers website?

How do I copy and paste a resume from my downloads into/onto a job application on a potential employer's website?

Not knowing the format/design of the employer's website, it's difficult to know.
Why not send your resume via regular mail or email. Just fill out the application the way the employer wants you to.

  • Download resume not working

Resently I have been trying to download 10.4.3. I have a dialup so set it to run at night. It gets part way through and the internet connection fails. When I try resume the next day it start all over again. I tried this with "Firefox with the same result. I tried manually stopping the download with X button and it works 2 or 3 times and then doesn't work. Always doesn't work when connections fails.
    I am using 10.4.2

I've had the same problem. I am also on dial up and big downloads (over 50MB) can be trying because of connection failure.
There use to be an "x" interruption button in the download progress bubble of the Panther version of Software Updater. It was quite effective in pausing and resuming downloads - even after long time spans. I think that was done away with in the Tiger upgrade because it's not there anymore.
Found the interruption "x" in Safari>Window>Downloads to be pretty iffy. Sometimes can save the download address in Safari to the desktop and it will work as an iterruption device.
However, in trying the last Update to Version 10.4.3 I could not get the above two methods to work. Always had to start over if the download was interrupted.
I commiserate with your frustration here in dial-up purgatory!
    Suggestions anyone?

  • Download resume does not work

I quit iTune when the only one download file was halfway, and iTune friendly informed me that it would resume my download the next time I open the application. I was satisfied by its nice service and left confidently.
But the next time I came back, iTune said nothing about my last unfinished download. I checked for available downloads, and it told me all purchases had been downloaded. Besides, the Downloads item which was expected on the left column was not there. There was a stub of the file under my playlists, but it showed nothing in content view when I clicked it, so it was just an evidence that I'd really tried to download it.
In case that the problem is file specific, it is the url of the file I tried to download: http://deimos3.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/Browse/cmu.edu.1335050999.014994149 29.1493684442?i=1430096218
Does anyone have any idea about this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

Since what you're trying to get is from iTunes U and hence carries no charge, have you tried just downloading it again from the start?
Note that, if you are in China as your profile indicates, there have been numerous and repeated problems with people accessing the iTunes Store from China as the government there sometimes blocks access to the iTunes Store (among many other web sites around the world) or otherwise may tinker with Internet access. So there may be little or nothing you (or Apple) can do.

  • Inability to RESUME download in ffox - how can you see if server supports resume e.g. any of the filehosts

hi: i have been trying to dl from filepost (file size 260) and occasionally it stops at 240.
i tried the answer in support to "dummy resume:"
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/672203?esab=a&as=aaq
    it did not work.
how can i test if the site allows resume?
or do i need to test for a specific file on that filehost allows resume?
    thankyou

    Hi Cor-el
I found Opera. Opera browser does not compare to firefox greatness. Nor does their support help forums.
But Opera does have RESUME button on their download window.
The trick with opera, is to open the download manager in a new window, and make it look like Firefox great add-on DownloadManager Tweak.
then it looks the same, so you know what your doing
AND it has a download / RESUME button
    fyi:
    > I tested Opera Download on all the failed ones (trying the tricky rename workaround) '''Opera RESUMED in all 9 test cases.'''
    > and where i could not get firefox to resume, not once in all 9 test cases.
so my conclusion is the workaround is not very good. And it had nothing to do with the server i was downloaiding from (in these 9 test cases)
perhaps..... in a future version: - firefox can also have the wonderful resume button, and the add-on Download Manager TWEAK, can also have the RESUME download button.

  • Mountain lion download doesn't resume from where it left after an error occur

I'm trying to download mountain lion but the download doesn't resume from where it stopped when I encounter a drop in my Internet connection/get disconnected. Also I face that after this sequence of events: Internet error occur > surprisingly download resume from where it left > pause the download > resume the download after a few hours. My questions are: how can I solve this issue ? Does the downloaded file/app get corrupted when the download encounters an error which is actually making it restart the whole download? It's really frustrating, I've been downloading for the last couple of days and the downloads restarts even after downloading over one gigabyte. P.s: my Mac meets with the hardware and software requirements for downloading mountain lion.

Does the downloaded file/app get corrupted
A slow internet connection for huge files like Mountain LIon (4.34 GB), can time out before the file is completely downloaded.
Try this...  from the App Store menu bar top of your screen click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads.
Something to keep in mind if you need to repair the startup disk or reinstall OS X.
"Reinstalling OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion via OS X Recovery requires broadband access to the Internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the Internet from Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation."
From here >   OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery
So if it's possible, contact your ISP to see if you can upgrade to a faster connection.

    Hi Dave_warr,
I would suggest restarting the iPad and see if the download resumes.

  • Cannot download TV episodes "stopped (err = 9006)"

I can't download 4 episodes of 19 from a season pass I purchased. I have no firewall, virus-protection, or web-acceleration software installed beyond what OSX provides.
    I have tried:
    (1) Checking for Available Downloads repeatedly.
    (2) Clearing the "~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Downloads" folder repeatedly.
    (3) Downloading from my iMac and my Macbook Pro (each with it's own user account).
    (4) Creating a new, test user account.
    (4) Downloading from two different physical locations.
Nothing works. Apple Support insists: "this error is caused by limits set by your ISP. It tends to occur with files that are over 2GB in size. It isn't based on the file being SD or HD but the total overall size of the file.
I do realize you have mentioned that you have contacted your ISP and they said there is no limit set on your downloading and that you have also tried downloading from two different locations.
Unfortunately, there is not something that I can do on this end to make these files download so I can just refer you to your ISP again to consult about this issue."
I made 2 separate calls to my ISP. They claim, and my experience suggests, there's no limits and according to speetest.net my bandwidth is fine. Furthermore, the files I can't download range from 300 - 800 MB.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

This may be a little late to be suggesting anything for this but I ran into the same problem just this morning while downloading a TV episode. I am running OS X 10.9.5 and iTunes 12.1.0.50 .
Tried all the usual things such as re-starting iTunes and re-booting my MBP with no resolution. Checked some threads that suggested running using an Ethernet cable connection rather than Wifi or turning Wifi off. Tried both and still no resolution...the error 9006 continued. Checked some other threads on this and saw that someone suggested the Firewall could be involved.
So I checked my Firewall and found the OS X Firewall was indeed turned on as per System Preferences for Security & Privacy. Before trying by turning the Firewalll off, I clicked on the lock and entered the password to get Admin privileges This allowed me to click on Firewall Options where I got the window listing the apps in which incoming connections were allowed. I noticed that iTunes had two lines in this list while the other 4 apps in the list had only one. I deleted the second line for iTunes thinking that the first line would be the oldest one.
With Wifi turned off and connected via an Ethernet cable, I tried the download again and it worked. I paused the download and turned Wifi back on. The download resumed OK. I paused the download again and disconnected the Ethernet cable. The download resumed again normally.
Don't know why there would have been two lines for iTunes in that list I saw but deleting the second line seemed to resolved my 9006 error. I see this is a very old thread but thought I'd add my comments anyway.

  • Movie won't finish downloading and won't go away!

My daughter started a download of a movie and was planning on renting it for a single showing. The movie has never finished downloading and everytime my ITunes syncs up when I start the computer, the downloading resumes and then I get an error message. I really don't want this movie anymore and I have tried to delete it, but it always seems to come back. How do I kill it once and for all.

Try reset your iPad. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo.
