DPM 2012 R2 UR2 adds 2003 support but what about 2008?

I see that update rollup 2 is out and it adds support for protecting server 2003 agents but I don't see any mention of server 2008 (not R2). I have a server 2008 SP2 (not R2) machine running Exchange 2007 SP3. Will I be able to backup this
machine's system state and Exchange data with DPM 2012 R2 if I install update rollup 2?

Even without that update I believe you should be able to backup a 2008 non-R2 box already using DPM 2012 R2.
While it's not listed on the compatibility matrix for some reason, we've got a Windows Server 2008 non-R2 (64-bit) Exchange server (exchange 2007) that is currently being backed up via a DPM 2012 R2 install, so that works.
Thanks for the tip off about the update! Very handy since we've still got one of our DPM installs not running R2 due to a couple of old 2003 boxes, but this means (once they re-release the update which has been taken down currently) we can finally get that
DPM server updated to R2!

We have Hyper-V Hosts with VMs which include Windows 2003/2003R2/2008/2008R2.
If I we upgrade to DPM 2012 R2 Update Rollup 2, will we be able to backup all those VMs now? The support matrix (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj860400.aspx)
still seems to show what is supported by the initial release of DPM 2012 R2, not an updated version for the rollup.
We currently use DPM 2012 SP1 and Hyper-V hosts using Server 2012.

This is kind of a loaded question because DPM 2012 R2 never dropped support for protecting Windows 2003/2008 using host level backup.
However, the support matrix will be updated shortly to include the added support for protecting workloads on Windows 2003 / 2008 using DPM 2012 R2 UR2.

DPMRA crashing after update to DPM 2012 R2 UR2

we have a problem on our DPM2012 R2 server.
The DPM servers OS is Windows Server 2012.
After applying Update Rollup 2, the DPMRA service on the DPM server started crashing when trying to create a new recovery point or trying to synchronize:

You can run the below Windows Powershell script on the DPM Server to clean up the *DPMRA.CRASHDETECT files. This should eliminate the dpmra crashes until a new fix is released to address the original problem.
1) Stop MSDPM and DPMRA Services.
2) Copy / Paste the below script into notepad and save as deletecrashfiles.ps1
3) Open Windows PowerShell using administrative privilege.
4) Run the deletecrashfiles.ps1
5) Restart the DPM services.

Are the apps backed up too or do they need to be purchased, downloaded and installed again?

You can transfer your purchases to computer iTunes.
Connect and select iPhone in iTunes under DEVICES, right click and choose Transfer Purchases from ...
BTW, you can alway re-download again for free if it's still available in the app store.

What about leaving a complex selection of clips intact after an UNDO operation? (This costs me hundreds of minutes a week.) Like every other app in the world?
What about allowing "." as an abbreviation for "00" when entering timecode?
What about letting the renaming of a clip in a bin be reflected in timelines?
What about a "reduce project" option? (To remove all items not used by selected sequences, like Ae.)
What about actually useful clip labels (colors) which link between timeline items and their respective clips in the bin? (Like Avid & FCP) So we can mark certain clips a certain color in a bin and have that color be reflected in timelines?
What about being able to close the title tool with a shortcut, not just a tiny 4x4 button?
What about fixing the title tool so it's kerning/leading shortcuts are NOT the exact opposite of EVERY OTHER CC application?
What about a simple "Select Media Relatives" command, like in FCP and Avid?
What about fixing the audio scrub toggle shortcut so that it works without having to play or use the mouse?
What about a shortcut for "Reveal in Finder" from the Timeline? It's in the context menu -- why no shortcut?

The only Programms I worked with are DVD Studio Pro and iDVD. You can burn a Video-DVD with Toast but there is no real option to design your Menu. Just a few themes as far as I discovered.
Do you have a Blue Ray Device to burn* the HD-DVD? Are the Bride and Groom able to watch the Blue Ray?
* which is only possible with DVD Studio Pro and not iMovie as far as I know.

For better quality I would go the Compressor & DVD Studio Pro workflow I just learned.
Export the Movie as is from Final Cut Pro and then use Compressor to encode the File.
Consider delivering the Movie in a different way like a private video on vimeo, a Website or on an SD card which is not really romantic...

Nice updates/fixes but what about the reception issue?

Don't want to beat a proverbial dead horse, but what about making the IPhone 4 a better receiver of calls? My 3Gs was the BEST phone I ever owned. I rarely had a dropped call, I was able to make and receive calls in places where no phone I had owned previously could. When I read that this phone had the best reception of any IPhone (according to Apple) I went and made the switch. Yes, I read many posts where folks say just that, great phone. I am on IPhone 4 number three and all have been plagued with reception issues, thought the first two were worse than this one. I go to the same locations every day and the 3Gs sent and received calls remarkably better. Just sayin.....

because apple put the antenna on the outside of the phone it is easier to attenuate the signal but it also gives much better reception. i have not dropped one call on my iphone 4... i was dropping tons of calls on my 3Gs and i am in the same area.
i have tried to attenuate the signal on my phone and cannot with the case on no matter how i hold it. if i take the case off and hold the sweet spot it drops like crazy. maybe your bumper isn't covering the antenna well enough.
i got the incipio NGP for 19 bucks at walmart. if you put that case on and still have the issue then i think you are totally full of cr@p.

Hi All, I have UR2 installed on my DPM 2012 R2 server and have followed Mike's guide on getting them protected:

The agents now show in the DPM console but display as needing an update and showing as agent version 4.1.3313.0 instead of 4.1.3441.0, which is odd.
Servers have:

Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.17
From the DPM server:

DPM 2012 R2 UR2 - KB2958100 - W2K3 Agent Install issues?

I had a W2K3 machine that I was backing up with 2012 which then became unsupported when upgraded to 2012 R2. Now with 2012 R2 UR2 I wanted to get it working again. The server was still listed in Agents under Management so I tried to use update option.
This failed telling me to uninstall Agent Service, Install VC2010 Redist and .Net 4.0. Having done all of these already I tried to manually install the agent from \DPM\DPM\agents\RA\4.2.1226.0\i386\1033. In the directory there are 3 files (and
a manifest):
DPMAgentInstaller_KB2958100.exe
DPMAgentInstaller_Win2K3_i386.exe
DPMProtectionAgent_KB2958100.msp
I guessed and installed the file DPMAgentInstaller_Win2K3_i386.exe and now DPM manager shows the server as having client version 4.1.3417.0 which is 2012 SP1 UR3. Manager console says this is incompatible version and needs updating but doesn't give
me option to update.
The question is what do I install the now? The msp file or DPMAgentInstaller_KB2958100.exe. It seems like this is a multi-step process but I can't find documentation on it yet.

It appears that I missed step D for 2003 servers in the KB article

Got a new hard drive for Snow Leopard, but what about all the applications?

Installing Snow Leopard revealed a faulty hard drive, but Genius Bar got me a new hard drive and installed Snow Leopard and the rest of the Mac Box Set for me.
I'm putting my computer back together, and I had all my files backed up on a Passport, but what do I do about the applications that I had? I could use a reinstallation of Office for Mac and Final Cut Express. Can I ask the companies directly?

More reason to back up your +*entire system,+* whether with Time Machine, a "clone" app like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, and/or some other way.

Newbie: Datagrid = great, but what about textual presentations?

I am a php hack, now learning Flex. I can create datagrid presentations of my SQL data in a snap... fast and wonderful CRUD interface in an instant. Datagrid = great.
But what is the proper way of presenting and formatting data in a more textual context? Imagine a list of book titles presented with brief text story abstracts, generated from the database (and available to the MXML app as a php-generated XML file, of course). Each would be shown one after another with links to more content...
So what is the proper data container to use for text-intensive presentations... maybe even including images and CDATA?

Any particular DataGrid column can have its own itemRenderer, and if you use something like TextArea you could populate the htmlText property.
htmlText property is not without its problems, such as data in a CDATA block might not render perfectly and might need to be massaged.
