DPM backup with SQL FCI and Availability groups

Ok im currently using an availability group on top of a SQL failover cluster and im having trouble getting DPM to work this setup.
When i create my protection group i can find my AG wrapper name under the failover cluster instance group but i see this is the windows cluster service but doesnt include any databases below.  The only place i can find the relevant database is looking
under the sql cluster instance and the database appears i can tick this and proceed.  The problem comes when im running a consistency check, when this is run it says "DPM failed the current backup because the previously standalone SQL database is
now part of a SQL Availability Group."
I think DPM cant handle the availability group on top of the failover cluster instance.
We are currently running SC DPM 2012 SP1.
Anyone come across a resolve to this?
Thanks

JamesBX are
you talking about secondary replica with synchronous commit? I have two node FCI which is primary replica in my AG and a secondary stand-alone instance on another node which is secondary replica.
I have tried with all possibilities, but without success.

  • SQL Server 2012 availability groups

Hi, I'm new to SQL 2012 and availability groups. We have it setup for SharePoint 2013 for an Intranet and all is well. I migrated some ASP.NET applications from SQL 2005 and created a new group for them. It all seemed fine and was sync'd up ok but lately
I'm having to manually resume the data movement via Management Studio. The databases seem to be in a paused state although the database is up as far as the applications are concerned.
Should I have completed some kind of database upgrade prior to moving over to 2012? Is there anything I can do or check? Is there a way of automating the resume data movement rather than me manually doing this?
    Thanks!

Suspending and resuming an AlwaysOn secondary database does not directly affect the availability of the primary database. However, suspending a secondary database can impact redundancy and failover capabilities for the primary database, until the suspended
secondary database is resumed. This is in contrast to database mirroring, where the mirroring state is suspended on both the mirror database and the principal database until mirroring is resumed. Suspending an AlwaysOn primary database suspends data movement
on all the corresponding secondary databases, and redundancy and failover capabilities cease for that database until the primary database is resumed.
You can obviously automate this: all you need to do is check if the status is suspended and then resume with the help of T-SQL command - how about writing a job which checks it every 5 min to 30 mins. depending upon your requirement and execute the T-SQL
    command to fix it.
    The Command would be:
ALTER DATABASE database_name SET HADR RESUME

  • WSFC Cluster and Availability Group Alert Variables

Is there a way to include the SQL instance name and/or the server name(s) in the alert for Cluster offline and Availability Group offline alerts?
Usually the Full Path Name contains the server name, but for these alerts the server name is nowhere to be found. The WSFC Cluster offline and Availability Group offline alerts (there could be others) only show the Cluster or Availability Group name
(For Full Path Name and Source). There's no info in the alert about the SQL instance name or the server(s) associated with the Cluster/Availability Group. This isn't very helpful and doesn't make the alert very useful if you have a lot of clusters and availability
groups that you manage. Sure, you can get the info from the Diagram View, but that means you have to login to the console, find the alert and open another view...not very useful if you need relevant data quickly to try to resolve the issue.

    Hi Yan,
Thanks for the link, but none of those actually supply the name of the server of the Cluster or Availability group that generated the error. I thought the Full Name might work, but it doesn't. I also tried the Windows Computer host under the General section
($Target/Host/Property[Type="Windows!Microsoft.Windows.Computer"]/NetworkName$), and that just generates an error when you
try to save the Channel (it says it failed to verify module reference). The alerts are kind of useless unless we can identify the servers. Why? Well, we have some staging servers and some production servers that have Clusters and Availability groups that have
the same name, so when an alert gets generated there's no way to tell which Cluster or Availability group it relates to.
Anyone have a way to include the server info in the Cluster and Availability group alerts?

  • SQL 2012 Database Availability Group - Force Automatic Failover

    Hi All,
I'd appreciate some help in understanding the following scenario in my test environment.
I have created a DAG with 2 replica servers (both of which are HyperV VM's running W2012 Std).
From a client PC in my test lab, I can connect to the virtual listener of my DAG and confirm via the "select @@servername" command that I am connecting to the primary replica server.
Using the Failover Wizard, I can easily move to primary instance between my 2 nodes and the command above confirms that the primary replica server has changed. So far so good.
What I wanted to test, was what would happen to my DAG in the event of a complete loss of power to the server that was acting as the primary replica server. At first, I thought I would stop the SQL Server service on the primary server, but this did not result
in my DAG failing over to the secondary replica. I have found out that the only way I can do this is by effectively shutting down the primary server in a controlled manner.
Is there any reason why either stopping the SQL Server service on the primary replica, or indeed forcing a power off of the primary replica does not result in the DAG failing over to the secondary replica?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hi,
I would verify if Database Availability Group means AlwaysOn Availability Group.
How did you set the FailureConditionLevel?
Whether the diagnostic data and health information returned by sp_server_diagnostics warrants an automatic failover depends on the failure-condition level of the availability group. The failure-condition level specifies what failure conditions
trigger an automatic failover. There are five failure-condition levels, which range from the least restrictive (level one) to the most restrictive (level five). For details about failure-conditions level, see:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh710061.aspx#FClevel

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
    It's an AlwaysOn Availability Group.
In my test lab, I have changed the quorum configuration to a file share witness and that has allowed an automatic failover when I turn the primary replica server off (rather than power it off).
I'll take a look at the links you provided.

  • Orchestrator 2012 R2 on SQL 2012 SP1 Availability Group

    Hi all,
I've recently setup a new install of SCOrch 2012 R2 on a SQL 2012 SP1 Availability Group.  Everything went smooth and appears to be functioning correctly up until a failover occurs (manual or automatic).  Once there is a failover between database
nodes, the Orchestrator servers (Mgmt and Runbook) lose connectivity to the database and will not reconnect until the services are restarted and then they work again.
Has anyone setup Orchestrator on an Availability Group and are you seeing similar issues from a failover?
    Thanks!

has each member of the availability group the same master key to read encrypted data like passwords and the license code?

  • SQL Server Alwayson availability groups automation

    Hi all,
I had configured SQL Server always on availability groups on windows server 2012 and it was successful.
I’ve installed and successfully configured our SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn 2-node windows cluster servers. I've gotten AlwaysOn working great, and our
Front End servers for the Intranet will be using SharePoint 2013. The glitch is that SharePoint 2013 is configured to add databases automatically to our SQL Server 2012 back end, but NOT to AlwaysOn. As we know “we must manually find, select, back-up and then
add those new databases individually to get them into AlwaysOn."
But wait; that can be quite a task, constantly checking the SQL Server back-end servers to see what databases were created, then having to add them
    into AlwaysOn, 7/24!
Im looking for an automated script or process that will check for new databases, back those new databases up in FULL mode, (for being added to AlwaysOn, of course) then
add those databases to Always On, all automatically.
    Requirements:
Every time the newly created or added databases should be full backed up once in the shared location with automated script.
Newly created database should be added into always on group and should be added to available replica automatically with the TSQL script
    Regards,
    SQL LOVER.

    awaiting for responses.
    Kindly help the bewlo request.
Newly created database should be added into always on group and should be added to available
replica automatically with the TSQL script and perform restoration.
There is no out of the box solution for this. You may want to created a SQL Job (PowerShell) which can detect database which is newly created and perform steps to add new database to AG.
    1. take full backup.
    2. Take log backup.
    3. restore then on secondary.
    4. Add database to AG

  • Is it possible to use MERGE with sql*plus and if yes how?

    Hello everybody,
I have an xls file and I have to load its data with sql*loader, but instead of "APPEND" operation stated in the control file I need MERGE operation. Here is what my control file contains:
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE 'C:\WORK\DSK_WH\LOAD_FIRST\sqlldr\data.csv'
    BADFILE 'C:\WORK\DSK_WH\LOAD_FIRST\sqlldr\p_badfile.txt'
    APPEND
    INTO TABLE D_ACCOUNT_NAMES_TMP
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY ";"
    TRAILING NULLCOLS
    (account_number , consignment, sub_consignment, consign_sub_consign, account_name_bg, account_number_2, consign_parent_2, account_name_bg_2, account_number_3, account_name_bg_3, account_number_4, account_name_bg_4, account_number_5 , ACCOUNT_NAME_BG_5 ).
How can I use merge in this case , instead of insert ?
    Regards,
    Maria

I'm not sure if there is any MERGE thing in SQL*Loader, but you can have a backup table which gets loaded by SQL*Loader and then use MERGE statement from backup to the original table, if your data is not huge to become a performance barrier. This is just a suggestion, may be you can try some reading of SQL*Loader here.

  • Can I backup with Time machine and continue to use my mac?

Hi I backed up my complete system with time machine and left the system alone. My question is when I do future backups can I continue to use the computer whilst the backup is happening or should I leave it alone whilst the backup is happening?
    Thanks!

The automatic backups aren't nearly as noticeable as the initial backup. Time Machine is designed to do its thing politely in the background while you use your computer. I rarely even notice it. However, if you are using resource intensive apps you might want to turn off Time Machine in System Preferences until your are finished so your apps have access to all available horsepower.

  • Backup from sql standalone and restore in sql cluster

    Hi,
I installed a failover cluster in 2008 server and i added a SQL server Cluster (2008) with success and I create a backup .bak from another SQL server ( standalone) but whene i try to restor it in the sql server (cluster ) I  have this message
    any idea please
    thx for help

I can't translate the error but it looks like you are trying to restore the db locally on the c:\ drive. Isn't the cluster storage on a SAN?

  • View jobs with SQL Developer and export to file with delimiter

    Hi,
is there a way to view, create and alter my database jobs with SQL developer?
And is it possible to export tables, views or simple queries to file delimited different from the CSV standard?
    Diego.

Hi and Welcome to the Forum!!
To select data from a table or a view you must use the SELECT sql command. Example to get the data from your view you can
select ZMATNUM,ZMATCUR,ZMATATTR from ZMATERIALAs you have said you are using SQL Developer just execute the above query in your sql developer and it will show the data. Right click the grid and export the data to excel file.

  • Running a SSIS package with SQL Job and Linked Server

I have a SSIS 2008 package. In one of the Script task I am calling a stored procedure which is  using Openquery using linked server. I deployed this package with protection level as "EncryptWithPassword" and gave a password to the package.
Created a SQL job and edited its command line to include the password. If I login to SQL Server Mgmt Studio with Windows Authentication and run the job manually it runs fine. But when I schedule it then I get an error that "The Communication link to Linked
    server failed".
    Please help

    Hi Vivek.B,
The issue should occur because the SQL Server Agent Service Account or SQL Agent Proxy account under which the job step runs doesn’t have sufficient permissions on the linked server.
If the job owner is the sysadmin fixed server role, the job can be run under the SQL Server Agent Service Account or a proxy account, then please make sure the SQL Agent Service Account or the proxy account has corresponding login on the linked server. If
the job owner is not a sysadmin fixed server role, the job must run under a proxy account. In this case, make sure the proxy account has a corresponding login on the linked server.

  • Problem with SQL connection and a Collection

    hi all,
I have two problems with sql...
    1. how can I assign the values of a resultset to a collection?
    2. how can I close the sql connection, because when I close the statement and connection error shows me in the resultset
    thanks!

    Hello Pablo,
    RetrivingResults In Collection:
    1)   use getObject method, and assign it to collection.
              Collection c_obj=new ArrayList();
             while(rs.next())
                    c_obj.add(rs.getInt(Project_ID), rs.getString(Project_Name));
    Closing ResultSet
    2)               The close() methos of ResultSet closes the ResultSet object, like bellow
                    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT a, b FROM TABLE2");
                    rs.close(); //Closes the result set

  • Import and process larger data with SQL*Loader and Java resource

    Hello,
I have a project to import data from a text file in a schedule. A lager data, with nearly 20,000 record/1 hours.
After that, we have to analysis the data, and export the results into a another database.
I research about SQL*Loader and Java resource to do these task. But I have no experiment about that.
I'm afraid of the huge data, Oracle could be slowdown or the session in Java Resource application could be timeout.
Please tell me some advice about the solution.
    Thank you very much.
