Drag and Drop strangeness
I'm playing with DnD between JVMs.
From one I'm creating a transferable, and iterating through the DataFlavors yields

Well, it doesn't happen on OS X. I Suspect Windows or the Windows JVM implementaiton is doing something funny to the Transferable in-between the 2 JVMs.
Probably a bug...

Method A

We can try to create a new profile in Microsoft Office Outlook 2010 to test the issue, follow these steps:

Click Show Profiles. Choose Prompt for a profile to be used.
4.
Click Add.
5.
Type a name for the profile, and then click OK.
6.
Highlight the profile, and choose Properties. Then Email Accounts..., add your email account in the profile.
7.
Start Outlook, and choose this new profile.
If this problem does not occur in the new Outlook profile, the old Outlook profile is corrupted. We can delete that and use a new Outlook profile.

Drag and drop acting strangely after 10.8.5 upgrade
Just yesterday I upgraded to 10.8.5 form 10.8.4 so I could use my new iPhone 5c with iTunes (got message I had to upgrade)>
Since then I have had trouble dragging and dropping files into folders, folders into folders.
E.g., when dragging a .jpeg out of a folder from my user profile in finder to my desktop the .jpeg doesn't stay where I drop it but goes into the far upper left corner of the screen, half off the screen.
When draging a file to a folder on my desktop, after dropping, it doesn't go into the folder but pops back to where it was. Other times it will drop into the folder but then instantly opens the folder in a Finder window.
I repaired disc permissions and restarted, still have problems and it's getting annoying.
Appreciate any help.Tried installing the 10.8.5 Combo, repaired permissions before and after, still have the same problem.
I wanted to copy a folder of jpegs from my home folder to a flashdrive, every time I dropped it on the flashdrive icon it just popped back to the home folder. Finally I had to hold it on the flashdrive icon for about 4-5 seconds at which point the flashdrive opened it's own window and let me drop it there.
I noticed that immediately after repair disk permissions, I did it again and all the same permissions had to be fixed again, all in iTunes. Something amiss.... -
Strange drag and drop text editing behavior in Mail
Sometime when selecting text in an email and dragging it to a new part of the document COPIES the selected text to the new location rather than MOVES the original text.

No bug, no trick. You simply have to be careful so that you get it right. Select the text you want to move, then click and hold (pause slightly), and drag & drop to the new position. Simple, and it works every time if you do it rights. -
Working on an IMac - with IPhoto v.9.6
This is my first experience with IPhoto... trying to move files from a PC over to a Mac.
I don't have a ton of photos but I created about 6 albums - standard albums - and dragged and dropped individual photos into each of the albums. I named each of the albums as well so I would know what was in each. After i was finished, I created a folder called 2014 and moved each of the albums into that folder. Before moving ANY of the albums, I opened each of them up to make sure that all the photos I wanted in each were indeed there - and since there were some errors on my part, I deleted any duplicates first. SO, I KNOW the photos were actually in each of the albums BEFORE i moved them into the 2014 folder.
My intention was to then delete the photo files in my document file but once I got there I thought I would go back and double check the IPhoto file just to make sure... and the pictures were NOT in the albums where I had placed them... is there a need to save this before you move on and if so, to where and how? I was under the impression that once files were moved to albums, they remain there.
The photos are still in the photo library but unsorted now again... I cannot even open the 2014 folder at this point.
Thanks for any help!!Was back on IPhoto this morning. The folder did not open at all so I deleted it. Beside Albums, nothing showed at all. It was like I had done no work at all except to import my photo folder. Nothing was in my trash bin either.
I started again and created one album at a time. I dragged and dropped photos into the album and exited out of IPhoto, opened up other programs and then returned to IPhoto to see if the album was still there and it was this time. I created a second album and did the same thing. This time, for some reason, the albums seem to be staying in place. I am not doing anything differently than last time. After creating three albums, I created a folder called 2014 and dragged and dropped the three albums into the folder and exited IPhoto. They were still there when I returned - YEAH! It seems to be working - for now! I am keeping my fingers crossed that my photos are not going to disappear but I am not going to delete my photo folder from my files just in case!
Thanks for the suggestions but this may just have been a funny glitch... not sure what happened. I didn't change anything or do anything differently this time except that I am doing it one album at a time and exiting the program between creating each of them and coming back to check... very strange. -
Drag and Drop to photo page creates links, doesn't replace placeholders
I searched the discussions for quite a while and didn't find much similar to this topic. Basically, drag and drop is no longer working on my iWeb and my photo grids will not accept pictures to replace the placeholder (sample) photos. I will try to explain the whole problem in detail.
I am a new iWeb user, and I set up a page without any problems at first. Yet when I returned in iWeb to add another photo page today, I have had a lot of trouble. I used the template Photo Page and opened the Inspector and the Media Viewer to drag photos onto the placeholder photos, as the Help pages and tutorials show. Yet when I drag the picture file from the Media Viewer into the photo grid, only a small text box appears that sets up a hyperlink to the photo file on my computer. I've tried messing with the inspector, seeing what the difference is between the placeholder photos' settings and the files I'm trying to add.
The only differences I can see are: in the Link Inspector's pane I can tell the program is at first making a hyperlink to the file instead of displaying the photo (yet disabling the hyperlink doesn't change anything); also,
In the Graphic Inspector pane that appears when I have selected a general area in the photo grid, at the top the "Style" , "Layout" and "Caption" options appear, along with a display of a sample photo style. When I click on one of the rectangles that appears with the file I am trying to drag and drop, I have only the "fill" option, which has "none" selected. Fiddling with the options does not get the photo to appear.
I can see the blue grid surrounding the placeholder photos, so the photo grid exists. I have also tried using different templates' photo pages, but they all have the same problem. I also tried creating an album in iPhoto and importing it to iWeb, but only two photos appeared out of 12.
So the main part of my problem is not that photos don't appear at all (if I try and insert them they appear on their own, completely independant of the template's style and the photo grid)., it is that they do not work with the photo grid and that drag-and-drop no longer works.
Any information that could help is greatly appreciated.

Try out the following things. These suggestions are
sort of the starting point for non-specific strange
behavior in iWeb.
1. Delete iWeb preference file at:
YourHardDrive/Users/yourname/Users/Library/Preferences
/"com.apple.iWeb.plist"
2. Delete iLife Media Browser preference file at:
YourHardDrive/Library/Preferences/"com.apple.iLifeMedi
aBrowser.plist"
3. Repair startup disk permissions using Disk
Utility
4. Reboot machine
5. Delete iWeb application (but keep a backup of the
Domain file!) and reinstall iWeb 1.0 from original
iLife'06 DVD or Recovery Disks and then update
directly to 1.1.1 via Software Update.
These are the top 5 things that seem to garner some
kind of positive results from people having similar
problems.
I am having the same problem Susan described. I've tried #1 and #2 from the above recommendations and still have the same problem of photos not opening in the photo page after dragging them from iphoto. I, too, published a site (not on .Mac, but I don't know if that matters) and now want to add a photo page. Also, the template shows six placeholders, but when I select the photo page only three appear.

Drag and drop does not work in Exported release build
I am using the built in DragManager class to handle some drag and drop functionality in an application. When running from flex builder, It runs exactly as expected, but when I export the project to a release build, Dragging only works in the vertical direction. How is this possible? What might be causing such strange behavior.
Any help would be much appreciated.Sorry, I will try to be more clear. I am using drag and drop simply to move items around on a Canvas. This works perfectly when running from flex builder, but when i export a release build it starts behaving strangely.
I can drag items up or down on the canvas no problem, but as soon as I try to drag items left or right, there is no response. On a windows machine, it gives me the black circle with a slash through it icon, implying that the drag is not accepted. On Mac, there is no icon, it simply will not drag.
Hope that clarifies it, I could really use some help figuring this issue out.

I can confirm that the call to DragManager.acceptDragDrop is being reached in both cases, but the DragEvent.DRAG_DROP event is not being handled in the release build, (it is reached when run from flex builder) -

Well, usually when my mac starts to have strange problems, I usually reset NVRAM (About NVRAM and PRAM) and SMC (Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)). I'm not a specialist but it always work. And a pic helps me better (http://www.chikaboo-designs.com/mac-fan/).
I had the same problem too and after both resetting, all works fines.

Drag and Drop - Incomplete Wireless Copying of Files
Ever since I upgraded to 10.6.4, I have a problem doing the "drag and drop" method of copying files wirelessly from my Mac to the HP MediaSmart server connected to my Apple AirPort N Base station.
I used to be able to simply copy files without problems from my FireWire CF card reader to the server fast and with no problems. After the upgrade, the wireless copying has become slow and the transfer is incomplete. For example today I tried to drag and drop 97 photo files and it only copied 30 of those files in random order. So I repeat the process over and over again (without replacing the already copied files) until all 97 files are copied. If I re-copy everything from scratch by over-writing existing copied files, it will only successfully copy a few files again.
If I copy direct from the card reader to the hard drive in my computer, the copying is lightning fast and with no problem.
If I copy from the computer hard drive to the server connected to the AirPort, the same inconsistent copying occurs.
So it's somewhere in the wireless link that has a problem.
The solution is to use the "Image Capture" app so that it will successfully copy all files from the card reader to the server. But as I mentioned the process is slow.
I have installed the latest Apple updates at the time they come out. I am at 10.6.5 and have the latest AirPort update that was recently released. I still have the same problem.
Anyone know about this problem? How do I report issues like this directly to Apple?
Thanks for any assistance and feedback.I am having the same problem. I just bought a USB Hard-drive and was copying a 2.7 M folder from one HD to the USB and it leaves out like 15 files. I tried copying to the desktop and it does the same thing. I can open the folder, cmd-A, cmd-c, then paste and it took all the files. Very strange.

When I drag and drop text in a Mail message it drops a copy in the new location and leaves the original text in place. I guess there must be a setting somewhere to allow what I would call normal behavior (ie the text moves location when dragged, equivalent to cut and paste) but I can't find it. Anyone?

Can't Drag and Drop songs onto Shuffle. Autofill Doesn't work either
I know that many people have been having this same problem.
The Shuffle is recognized by the computer AND even iTunes. It shows up in the playlist, but when you try to Autofill or even Drag and Drop the songs individual, the songs, for lack of a better term, don't stick.
It was working perfectly when my daughter first got it for Christmas, and now, this happens. We have already had to return one shuffle.
Does this one have the same fate???

Shuffle Windows XP 1 GBSame problem here too. Was workiong fine about a month ago. When looking at songs in my Shuffle Library the new ones I have manually dragged accross appear with a 'dot' beside the track number - it is these songs which are not being transferred to the shuffle. I can't even get the message at the top of iTunes to say "Ipod Shuffle is Connected & Updating - Do Not disconnect." I have updated iTunes to latest version and completed all Shuffle updates. What's the go? Is the only solution to have the shuffle replaced? Seems very strange it used to work and now it doesn't - nothing had changed in the intervening period. Appears I'm not the only one with this issue. Does anyone have an answer?

Drag and Drop Export Done is called too soon...

I am trying to drag and drop a JLabel from a JPanel into another JPanel. I am no where near to figuring it out, but just for starters I notice that the exportDone() method is called in my custom TransferHandler immediately when the drag begins. Even stranger, createTransferable() is never called. (I am comparing my code to the DragPictureDemo that I found online). The question is, why is exportDone called immediately? Code below. Thanks. (BTW, any other suggestions about what I'm trying to do would be appreciated. I'm not confident in the direction I'm taking here... have yet to understand the Swing DnD mechanism...)
From DragPictureDemo, I notice that createTransferable and exportAsDrag are called immediately upon drag, and exportDone is called at the drop.

edit Since your earlier post, I've been trying to teach myself Swing DnD, but am finding the documentation confusing and the tutorials primitive... I'd reached a conclusion, which has every chance of being wrong, that I should call createTransferable from exportAsDrag. FWIW these are the methods as of now -- nothing works :-( @Override

Can't drag and drop into Preview's sidebar
Most of the time that I try to drag and drop image into Preview's sidebar (OS10.5.2), it doesn't work -- no cursor, no nothin'. Strangely enough, I can open one or more of the very same images using "open" in the menu, but I can't drag them from one Preview sidebar to another or drag more images in. Even more strangely, some images (very few) DO work perfectly, and I can't find anything at all different about them -- same specs, permissions, etc. as the ones that don't work! The same images that won't work DO work in other programs, like Mail. Did permission repair, all 3rd party stuff turned off...
What else is there that I could check out?I might be wrong, but ...
I know Microsoft Office 2011 is Mountain Lion compatible. In fact, Microsoft released updates to it right around the time of Mountain Lion's release to assure compatibility.
I do not believe Microsoft Office 2008 is Mountain Lion compatible. -
Drag and Drop/Copy-Paste Error! Help!
My good old mac seems to finally have began its death throes. I've never had a real problem with the machine until this point.
The most noticeable part of the issue is my inability to drag and drop anything. On top of that I can't copy and paste, and can't send files via Instant Messenger or anything like that. I can attach files to e-mail for some strange reason.
Another strange system is the pixellation of the icons in my dock. For some strange reason the shortcut icons in my dock for random apps become pixellated, again, randomly.
I just finished a disk repair with Disk Utility and am about to restart. Any help would be greatly appreciated!Hi, have you tried resetting the launch services to see if that fixes your icon problem?

Drag and drop doesn't work after upgrading to Yosemite
It is strange. Since upgrading yesterday to Yosemite, my drag and drop does not working consistently. I use drag and drop all of the time, into emails, moving files from one folder to another, moving music from finder to itunes, etc. It seems each time I try to drag a file, initially the Finder window I am dragging from crashes and re-starts. Once it re-starts, I actually am able to move a file as normal for about a minute or two. After a minute or two, if I try to drag and drop a file, again it crashes and re-opens.

After upgrading my iMac to Yos, I could only select and copy files to relocate them. Frustrating for a couple of days. I eventually found that the setting on my trackpad was for three fingers over a selected file/folder window/etc moved the item to where I wanted. It had automatically changed to this preference. Its called a 'three finger drag'. The video shows a pane being moved but it also applies to all files etc. It can found in preferences/trackpad/point & click. Here you can turn it off if that is hat is causing the issue. Otherwise no software solutions I'm aware of. Good luck.

Trouble opening pdf's after installing Yosemite
Recently installed Yosemite. Trouble opening pdf files e-mailed via Gmail. Opens fine on my iPhone, which is not running Yosemite. Any suggestions appreciated.
