Dreamweaver CS3 Ajax functionality
The advertising for Dreamweaver CS3 on the Adobe site
mentions Spry and Ajax, but it's not exactly clear how Ajax is
integrated. For example, if you use the Spry tabbed user interface
is it simple to load the tab content 'on the fly' via Ajax, or will
adding Spry Ajax functionality require additional hand
coding?
it will add it at the click of a button; however I then hand
edit the css and style it how I want. Very easy and their code is
commented very nicely

The Essential Guide to Dreamweaver CS3 with CSS, Ajax, and

Would this book help me learn about Spry and Ajax and how
applications can be made with them, if I my e-commerce site runs on
a compiled C code shopping cart (ShopSite) but supports PHP
server-side scripts or is it only for shopping carts based on PHP
itself (like X-Cart)?
I am not sure. Someone please let me know so I can purchase
this book. Thanks.ahsenabro wrote:

You don't need any prior knowledge of Ajax or PHP, but you do
need to
know the basics of HTML and CSS. As I say in the
introduction, "You
don't need to be an expert, but you do need to have an
inquiring mind.
It doesn't teach the basics of web design, nor does it
attempt to list
every single feature in Dreamweaver CS3. There are plenty of
other books
to fill that gap. However, by working through this book,
you'll gain an
in-depth knowledge of the most important features of
Dreamweaver."

The book provides detailed coverage of the Spry 1.4 features
in
Dreamweaver CS3, which can be applied to any site. With minor
adaptation, you can also use Spry 1.6. It's important to
realize,
though, that the Spry/Ajax features in Dreamweaver CS3 do
*not* cover
asynchronous requests to the server. The ability to
communicate
asynchronously with the server was added in Spry 1.6. If it's
asynchronous server calls and responses that you're after,
your
programmer will need to dig around in the Spry 1.6
documentation on the
Adobe Labs site, and hand-code it.
The Spry features covered in the book are Spry Effects, Spry
UI widgets
(menu, accordion, tabbed panels, and collapsible panels),
Spry
Validation Widgets, and Spry XML Data Sets.

Yes. All the Spry techniques can be used on any web page. It
doesn't
need to be a PHP one.

Dynamic drop down list crash dreamweaver CS3
Hi,
I'm having a problem with Dreamweaver CS3.I'm running it with
Vista SP1
I try to create a mysql dynamic dropdown list in AJAX with
this
Tutorial
Once the form is created and when I try to insert the php
code and change the name of the variable , Dreamweaver crash
everytime and close.
I tried also with other tutorial and codes but it crashes
everytime I insert some dynamic dropdown list.
If someone ever encountered this probleme or have any idea
... thanks !!The Preview function is a development feature to demonstrate the results of merging data (the .xml specificed in Form Properties > Preview > Data File) with the .xdp or .pdf. When you open in the form in Reader or Acrobat the same .xml file is not merged with the form automatically.
To get data into a PDF you have a number of options including:
1) use LiveCycle Forms ES server-side solution to do data merge
2) use a data connection to a database or a Web Service
3) use JavaScript importData() or FormCalc get()
To use options 2) and 3) the form has to be rights-enabled for the respective function to work in Reader.
If you use option 3), you can attach the JavaScript 'xfa.host.importData()' to a button or some other event. When importData() fires it will prompt the user with a file browser to pick the .xml. The importData() method will work if the PDF is rights-enabled, only. Open the PDF in Acrobat Professional, from the toolbar, select 'Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader' and save the PDF.
Note, if you specify the .xml file name in importData(), the PDF must be certified. This is for security purposes.

Does Dreamweaver CS3 generate RSS feed?
Does Dreamweaver CS3, which I just got, generate RSS feed?
Right now I'm using FeedForAll, but I'd prefer to generate my
site's feed through Dreamweaver. (My site is SlowReads.com.) I've
just switched to a Mac and don't want to pay for a new FeedForAll
license.
If Dreamweaver CS3 doesn't generate RSS feed, does anyone
know if DreamFeeder, an extension available through Adobe's web
site, is okay for Dreamweaver CS3? It says that it's made for MX
& MX 2004.Burt,
You certainly can do this with Dreamweaver CS3 to create RSS
feed. You can take a look at Adobe Labs technologies for further
details.
Adobe Labs | Spry
framework for Ajax technologies Also, you can learn more about
Spry technologies within Dreamweaver Help using function key: "F1".
Please refer to Spry link. There are pretty good information on how
to work with Spry framework through links provided by Dreamweaver
Help itself. Be sure to keep your computer stay connected to the
Internet in order to make it work to connect to whatever web link
source.
[On edit...] Futhermore, there is a link to Spry in
Dreamweaver Developer Center as well, just so you know.

Hope that helps.

Remote Rollover in Dreamweaver CS3
I want to do something like the effect achieved with the "who" and "why" buttons on this site - http://voicubojan.com/. I'm not sure what to call this to know how to search for how to do it. I have Dreamweaver CS3 and WindowsXP. Thanks for any help.
SharonIt's often called a Disjointed Rollover.
You can see from View Source in a browser that the example in the link is actually toggling the CSS class in the sidebar from display:block (visible) to display:none (hidden)
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#content').css('min-height', $(window).height() - 207);
$('#whoLink').click(function () {
$('#who').css('display', 'block');
$('#why').css('display', 'none');
$('#whyLink').click(function () {
$('#why').css('display', 'block');
$('#who').css('display', 'none');
</script>
In the Dreamweaver Behaviors panel, (Window > Behaviors), you could also explore "Set Text of Container" -
Spry Accordian in Dreamweaver CS3
I am using Spry Widgets in Dreamweaver CS3. However,
everytime I insert the spry accordion - it doesn't work right if
too much text is in one of the tabs. For Example: I have 3 tabs in
the Accordion. Everything works well as it should if there is just
a little text without a scroll bar. However, when there is a scroll
bar in the Accordion - it doesn't work right. The panels do not
minimize, all the panels are open. When I click on one panel, it
doesn't do what is is suppose to.
Did I do something wrong here? I don't think I did.Without seeing your page (code) I am guesing what your
peoblem is, but try this.
Check you have the SpryAssets folder and js content correctly
referenced between page and external folder. Check that your js
script, which should be the last script tag set before the closing
body tag is in place on the page containing the accordion.
Also, you can change the accordion panel behavior to a
flexible height, which contains all content, and removes the
vertical scroll bar. You need to edit the CSS and add a new
property to the accordion object when it is initialized. Find the
.AccordionPanelContent CSS class and delete the height property;
change the overflow property to hidden.
Next tell the Accordion object to use flexible height by
going to the bottom of the page and finding the code that has
(something like: var Accordion1 =
Spry.Widget.Accordion("Accordion1"); in the code. Add
useFixedPanelHeights:False to the constructor function so it looks
like this:
var Accordion1 = Spry.Widget.Accordion("Accordion1",
{useFixedPanelHeights:False} );
That should remove the scroll bars. -
Dreamweaver CS3 instead CS4 for optimization on older hardware . . .
Dreamweaver CS3 instead CS4 for optimization on older hardware . . .
I do design for print and every year more and more customers have asked me if I would design their web site after I have designed their brochures and other collateral. For the last nine years I have never found the time to learn web production. I purchased Adobe PageMill and then upgraded to Adobe GoLive 5 but I have never found the time to learn these programs. But lately, requests for web design have persisted. I downloaded the trial version of Dreamweaver CS4 but it is too slow on my 1.25 GHz MDD Dual G4, running Mac OS 10.4.11.
So I purchased the Dreamweaver CS3 upgrade, which was still available from Officemax.com. I also purchased "Dreamweaver CS3: The Missing Manual" by David McFarland. I'll be going through the tutorials on weekends trying to become functional with Dreamweaver.
I'll be using it in WYSIWYG mode and not as a HTML coder.I would have been happy to make DWCS4 my first step up to Dreamweaver but with it not officially supported on G4 Macs and all the menus at the top running way too slow, I needed to stick with what is officially supported for the G4 by Adobe, Dreamweaver CS3.
It is possible that future updates of DWCS4 will be more optimized and do OK on my G4. It is also possible that running my outdated version of Font Reserve 3.1.4, under Mac OS 10.4.11, is slowing down the menus on DWCS4 on my machine even Acrobat 7 Pro gives me slow menus with my current set up.
InDesign CS3 is fast enough on my system and IDCS4 runs just as fast as IDCS3 on my Dual MDD G4.
I don't think I will be getting an Intel-Mac desktop and laptop until 18 months from now. -
DReamweaver CS3 tryout question
I have installed the tryout version of Dreamweaver CS3 on my
computer.
Is there a way to make a "custom" installation? Presently it
just installs everything without giving the opportunity to make
selections, except for the installation location and the file
associations. Is this because I am dealing with a tryout, or would
I have the exact same procedure if I were to buy the "boxed"
edition?
As I already have Photoshop CS2 installed, I already have its
version of Bridge installed. So, now I find myself with 2 Bridges.
Is this OK? Is there a way to uninstall one of them?
Also, the tryout version installs something called "Bonjour
Service" Can anybody tell me what is the function of this
application? What does it do exactly? Do I need it?
Thanks to allThere is no way to alter the installation process,
unfortunately.
And Bonjour is a way for DW to discover any online network
servers for
VersionCue, even though the latter app doesn't work in CS3.
Unfortunate....

Dreamweaver cs3 doesn't support php5 ?
I open a new file with PHP selected. Check in the code, there
was no php tag already.
And When I code php, there is nothing call autocomplete. i

That's because PHP is normally used embedded in HTML.
Dreamweaver
doesn't know where you want your PHP tags. However, the
Insert bar will
insert them for you.

Press Ctrl+Space in a PHP code block to get code hints for
more than
2,000 PHP functions.

Dreamweaver supports a lot of PHP. It also has a basic suite
of server
behaviors that automate such things as user authentication,
insert,
update, delete, and select records.

Problems installing Dreamweaver CS3
Hi, I've been trying to install Dreamweaver CS3 on my Vista
computer, home premium and I've already spent numerous hours
installing and uninstalling the product!
The problem is that the installer fails to install Adobe Cue
Client CS3.
I've googled the problem and found that logs were generated
on a gzip file on C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\
as i've read here:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401401&sliceId=1
All anti-virus (NOD32) and firewalls (COMODO) are disabled.
Like the page suggests I've uninstalled all products from
Adobe, except Acrobat 8 and and run the CS3cleaner scripts provided
by you, in level 2, to clean all files from my computer, as a page
from adobe recommends too.
I've alse run tried to run the installer as administrator,
with the same results.
I provide the install log from Adobe Dreamweaver on link
http://www.sendspace.com/file/s27cuj,
from the last PayloadInstaller that failed to install.
On event manager the error is logged like this:
quote:
Product: Adobe Version Cue CS3 Client -- Error 1920.Service
##Id_String1.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B879762## (Bonjour
Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient
privileges to start system services.
How can I solve this problem??I would recommend calling as well. I ran into a similar
problem on the Mac side and they have information to provide you
beyond the KB articles. Although I have just decided to do without
it since I really did not utilize its functionality so if you feel
the same I would recommend not using the program as well. -
Dreamweaver CS3 (version 9.0.0.34) on mac OS 10.9.3
my dreamweaver CS3 (version 9.0.0.34) won't function on new mac OS 10.9.3. Is their a download that will solve it?
Version CS3 is not at all compatible with new version of MAC. So, if you are using new MAC then upgrade to CC version. You can also use Dreamweaver CC and all other adobe applications and use them for one month as a trial for free . So you have a option to use it before purchasing it. And the new versions are all compatible with MAC 10.9.3.

Dreamweaver CS3 and Sourcegear Vault?
Has anyone found a way to get Sourcegear Vault (SGV) to work
with Dreamweaver CS3? I don't have problems with using Dreamweaver
8 with SGV, but after upgrading all of our stuff to CS3 I'd rather
use the new version. Any thoughts? The SGV DLL used to go in The
"\program files\common\dreamweaver\source control\" folder, but I
can't find an equivalent folder in Dreamweaver CS3. Can anyone
point me in the right direction?fnOptionF12 will work.
fn tells the keyboard to send the F-xx instead of the special function.
And like I said there is an option in the System Preference to reverse the use of fn and make the F-xx keys work as F-xx instead of the special function. -
I've read almost every post in this forum about how
Dreamweaver CS3 stores information about the sites that are set up
through the site manager. I assume the site data is stored
somewhere for each site. According to a few posts, Windows stores
this data in the registry. Older versions of Dreamweaver on OS X
also stored the information in the Application Support folder in
the User's Library folder. Does anyone know where CS3 stores its
site data now on OS X? Where does Dreamweaver get that data to
create the .ste backup file when using the export function in the
site manager?
Thanks!Yes, it's still in the Library folder, but it's "Adobe"
instead of
"Macromedia" now.

Can't "connect to database" from Dreamweaver CS3
This question maybe more appropriate for the PHP or MySQL Forum but since the problem is encountered in Dreamweaver CS3, I am going to first try getting help on this Forum.
I have a LINUX CentOS 5.3 Server with Apache (httpd-2.2.3) & PHP-5.1.6 installed. I also have a text site; httpd://ip.tib.com on it.
I am using a WinXP with DW CS3 to develop & test the above web site. Currently I am trying to setup a test dynamic page and am reading Dreamweaver USER GUIDE page 514 Chapter “Database Connections for PHP Developer”.
FYI, the Remote & Test Servers are setup for the web site under construction and connections to both are tested successfully from DW CS3.
Now when I try to test “Connect to a database” (Dreamweaver USER GUIDE page 514) , I get the following error message:
Your PHP server doesn’t have the MySQL module loaded or you can’t use mysql_(p)connect function.
First of all, I can connect to the MySQL server and create/edit/delete tables from WinXP using Navicat Package. I have looked into “php.ini” on the LINUX server but can’t figure out what changes I need?
Any help is highly appreciated.I have resolved this problem.
PHP 5.3 no longer bundles the MySQL libraries. I couldnot find the missing libraries anywhere. I switched back toolder versions of both MySQL & PHP, where MySQLlibraries are bundled with PHP package.
Problem solved. -
Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 with ASP coldfusion and PHP search?
I am working through Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 with ASP
coldfusion and PHP with the intent of creating a data base site
that primarily requires a search engine on the index page. The
search page in the book uses specific search criteria ensuring that
there will always be a match to the data base but I need to create
an input text field search engine. My Q, if there is no data within
the data base that match the variable, will it return with an error
requiring an argument in the code to respond to no matching data.
Hopefully there are comprehensive online recourses for these search
engines as they are so common. I am a complete newby to all aspects
of web development and code so it will need to be a thorough
explanation, an idiots guide. ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATEDRob,
Let me try to answer your questions, understanding that my
answers are laced with my experience and therefore my bias.
1. For the most part the SQL that you write for Access, MS
SQL or MySQL is going to be the same. I won't make that claim about
Oracle or PostgreSQL because I have limited or no experience in
those areas. To be sure when you head down the road with any DBMS
there are finer points on 'value added' features (to over simplify
things like MS SQL's Transact SQL), but for the most part when you
are pulling out, inserting or deleting records the SQL that you
write will be the same. In fact, I don't think I had to make any of
the SQL in the book different to deal with the back end db.
2. As for your host steering you away from MySQL, I don't
know why that would be. It is MUCH more stable and robust than
Access for web development. My research showed that you can use
MySQL just fine with ASP though that clearly wouldn't be
Microsoft's first choice.
3. A quick aside, the fact that you are building ASP on a Mac
would seem to indicate that you are developing on your production
server. That's never a good idea. Go local if you can. If you have
a newer Intel Mac you can use VM Fusion, Parallels or even Boot
Camp to run Windows in a virtual environment and develop there,
only moving your code to production when you are happy with it.
There is of course the fact that they two environments would not be
identical and you may need to change a few references, but it is
still a better practice than developing on your live site. Some web
hosts give you the ability to set up a subdomain. If yours does,
you could set one up with a duplicate of your site and develop
there.
4. Let me try to pull your 'rant-let' apart into two issue. I
begin with a question. I'm not sure what the Mac part has to do
with it. The primary language I work in at my day job is
ColdFusion. The majority of the most serious developers I know in
the CF world work on Macs. I am forced into the PC world because of
a cultural bias at the business school where I work. Having said
that, the only time I have felt there was ANY difference in the
tools, resources, choices I had was in any way affected by platform
was when Adobe still had not released Flex Builder 2 for the Mac.
Now that is behind us as well. This reaction of mine may be based
on the fact that Access never comes into play in the work that I
do. I regularly work with MS SQL and MySQL. (OK, so SQL Enterprise
Manager, the MS tool of choice to talk to MS SQL is Windows only,
but I only use that at the day job. But even there you can find
cross-platform, free tools like Aqua Data Studio to talk from a Mac
to MS SQL.) If I'm missing your point on the Mac, please let me
know. Since the advent of the Intel Mac I think it is hands-down
the best choice for a web developer. You can have Mac, Windows and
Unix all on one machine. It doesn't get any better (providing you
have the RAM :-)).
As for the security question, it is somewhat analogous to the
war on viruses and spyware. As the defenses get better, so do the
attacks. Most languages have developed functions for vetting user
input variables and best practices for building these things. It is
mainly a user education issue. When I took over the book you are
working out of, the one thing Jeffrey told me it needed was more
security. I did my best to put more in under the constraints of the
publisher. They didn't want the book to be any longer than the
previous version. I did my best to modify the code used to include
"string safe" functions and to add verbiage about the importance of
security. It was clear that I could not add as much as was needed
and I said so in the book. Much more is needed for a serious
treatment of the subject and not acknowledging that would have been
a disservice to the readers. I've been working as a developer for
over a decade and I don't know all there is to know about it. It's
a constantly changing field, just like all of web development. In
fact next week I'm going through a 2-day SANS Web Application
Security workshop in hopes of learning more. So at the risk of
sounding like an industry apologist, I don't think it's a
shortcoming of the development community. It is, as they say, "a
developing situation".
