Dreamweaver CS4 start a FLV video clip by clicking an image or text

Hi
I have 4 small FLV video clips on my page and I would like to start (and possibly stop)  these clips by clicking on an embedded image or piece of text on the same page rather than by clicking the video clip itself.
Can anyone suggest a piece of JavaScript or a DW Behaviour that would do the trick.
I am using Dreamweaver CS4 for Windows 7.
Any help much much appreciated.
Regards
George

HI PZ
Thanks for getting back to me. Although I must admit this is very disappointing. Surely there must some Javascript that would launch the FLV video clips that could be copied and pasted into DW - I've seen similar features in many websites whereby clicking a thumbnail image launches a video clip.
Any one else any thoughts.
Thanks
George

  • Dreamweaver CS4 How to play a movie clip by clicking an image

    Hi
    Can anyone recommend a DW Behaviour, Widget or simple piece of Javascript coding that would allow me to start (or start and stop) a movie clip by clicking an image.
    I have a web page created in DW CS4 which has 4 FLV video clips and I would like visitors to be able to start their clip of choice by clicking a small still from each movie stacked at the right side of the page.
    I've seen this done on many sites but don't know how complex it would be.
    Any help / advice much appreciated.
    Thanks
    George

    Hi Ned, thanks for the response;
    1.Yes I named the instance.
    2.I  don't beleive so. I started from the library creating a new symbol, added the graphics, added the key frames, then created the tween. Then I dragged the symbol onto the main stage and named the instance. So I don't think there is a movie clip inside an mc.
    Here is the main timline:
    Here is the mc timeline:
    Here is what I'm trying to do:
    stop();
    blk1._visible = false;
    blk2._visible = false;
    blk3._visible = false;
    ppk1._visible = false;
    ppk2._visible = false;
    ppk3._visible = false;
    storeCartons = new Array();
    storeCartons = [blk1, blk2, blk3, ppk1, ppk2, ppk3];
    startButton.onRelease = function() {
        myNumber = Math.floor(Math.random()*storeCartons.length);
        trace("myNumber "+myNumber);
        activeCarton = storeCartons[myNumber];
        activeCarton._visible = true;
              activeCarton.play();

  • Dreamweaver CS4 start-up problem solved; shutdown crash not solved

    FYI - I learned very quickly that Dreamweaver CS4 will not launch at all (no splash screen, nothing) with setpoint.exe running in the background. Setpoint.exe is a Logitech mouse/keyboard manager. Shut it down and DW launches fine.
    Shutdown, however, is driving me crazy. When closing out DW (File > Exit or X-out), the app closes, then about fifteen seconds later, I get an error dialog that DW has crashed. 0xc0000005 error (memory access violation).

    Hi Stan,
    Thanks for responding.
    Truth be told, I got so focused on the Encore problem, it didn't occur to me to see whether Media Encoder was still functioning properly on my machine.
    At any rate, I did byte the bullet, and re-install Encore, and the problem in question went away.  Interestingly enough, when you opt to re-install Encore, CS4 automatically re-installs Media Encoder as well, so I guess the two programs are pretty tightly joined at the hip.  Not surprising, perhaps, since I suspect that Encore is in some ways just a special case of Media Encoder, at least as far as the transcoding is concerned.
    Of course, once I got Encore up and running, I tried to bring over a very, very small sequence from Premiere Pro and build it, and Encore crashed again (In PproHeadless.exe call to  ImageRender.dll).  Frustrating, since as a newbie all I'm trying to do is understand how the sequence settings I'm using in Premiere translate into final DVD output.  The project I am working on involves a mixture of still images and short video clips culled from many sources in many formats, and my first renders in Premiere yielded lots of letterboxing (I'm learning the hard way about pixel aspect ratios and the like).  As such, I figured before I built too many sequeneces, I should find a set of settings and work procedures that yield good results.
    I used dynamic linking to bring over my sequence from Premiere, and I'm thinking that perhaps having both Encore and Premiere open at the same time requires too many resources on my limited system.  Time to go figure out other options for moving sequences from Premiere over to Encore to see if that is in fact the issue.

  • When I publish as an .mp4, the embedded .flv videos clip at the end

    I am using Captivate 6.0.1.240. I have .flv videos that were encoded using Adobe Media Encoder from a .mov file. The videos are embedded on the slide, as multi-slide synchronized video, but only distributed across one slide (as strange as this might seem, it is what was recommended to me because using Event Video resulted in choppy video).
    Now, the videos clip off a second or so before the end of the video. There are no transitions on the video slide or on the slide following it. I have tried extending the length of the slide beyond the length of the video, to no avail.
    What am I missing? How do I get the embedded .flv videos to play fully?

    Hi there,
    As you told you have checked that there is no transition on the Slide on which you have the video.
    Have you checked the transition effect on that video, whether Fade out only or fade in and fade out is selected. Select that multi slide video and click on the properties panel and check the transition on it.
    Also, if this video is on the last slide, check the fade in and fade out on the project. (edit > Preferences > Project > start and end)
    Thanks.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Start in Code View

    How do I set Dreamweaver CS4 to start in Code View? Everytime I open a new file, it appears in Design View. I want to set Code View as my default. How do I do that?

    That behavior is weird. I wonder why CS4 is so restrictive then. Seemed MX was more forgiving.
    As for me, I use DW for its power in -- local development (Code View), FTP-ing, powerful search and replace across entire site, colorized view of my PHP/CSS/JavaScript syntax/HTML/etc., spell checking, code validation, source control with check-out, and a couple other minor features. I have never ever used design view or split view as I am a developer and not a "good" graphics and layout guy. I borrow and/or outsource that stuff to pro's.
    So I push everything up to my Linux/Apache server and test view in FF and MSIE browsers from the web server. I develop on a Windows machine.
    I guess I never trusted nor even understood the DW browser. What is it actually (rhetorical - no response necessary)?
    If there was one feature that DW could implement that I believe would make it the cadillac tool of the century would be a "click here to view your page in:" and then have the page be able to properly display in the latest 3 versions of the Win-Firefox, Win-IE, Win-Opera, Mac-Safari, Mac-IE, Mac-FF and any other top/widely used browser. I know there are some web sites out there that translate a page into these views, but a tool/feature like that would make a developer's world truly heaven. Of yeah, what would the site also look like at selected screen resolution sizes and with and without JavaScript being turned on. Hmm, bet that tool would cost me a mint.
    Hey, have a great day John and good luck with your DW!

  • How-to Convert Animation (swf) to flv video clips

    Hi,
    Has anyone here on the forums ever created flv video out of
    animations i.e. swf files.
    Kind Regards,
    Boxing Boom

    to convert a swf file to avi or mov you need a third party
    application to accomplish that, there are few of those google it.
    In case you want to export a .fla animation to a video
    format, just go to File -> Export -> and select the
    appropriate container (avi, mov) change the output settings on the
    dialog box and you're ready to go.

  • Tracking Video Clip to JPG BG Image

    I am creating an animation scene with a JPG background image (replicating a website) in which the camera moves throughout the webpage (or jpeg).  I also have smaller video clips over the jpg that play and stop and I would like to track these to the jpg.....somehow.  In other words, one would be scrolling up/down this webpage and they would be scrolling past the video clips that are being played on the page.  I don't want the video clips to move with the camera movement.
    Is there any way to do this (other than keying frame by frame)?
    Thank you

    Thanks for the feedback, Mylenium and Vishesh.
    I must have done something in my original comp to mess it up.  When I moved the BG layer (rather than the camera), the child layers stayed with it.  However, if I moved the camera, the child layers did not stay with it.  I just started a new comp with only a few layers and was able to move the camera while keeping the child layers attached to the BG.
    Can't figure out what I did wrong?  Any ideas?  Everything looks identical between the two comps.....but one works and the other doesn't:
    Camera parented to null layer
    Null and subsequent layers 3D
    Layers parented to BG layer (jpeg)
    Movement via null/camera layer
    Just don't want to get further into this and have to start over again.
    Thank you!

  • Playing multiple videos on the same page in Dreamweaver CS4?

    Suppose on my website, I have a few dozen videos, all of them embedded YouTube videos. When the user goes to the page, Video 1 is up and ready to be played. Below Video 1 is a list of the other videos (Video 2, Video 3, and so on), each with a thumbnail picture. When the user clicks this thumbnail page, the new video is loaded (eg: if they click on the thumbnail for Video 2, Video 2 is up and ready to be played).
    What do I do in Dreamweaver CS4 so the new video loads without redirecting the user to another page? With so many videos, I imagine that it isn't efficient to have a separate page for each video.

    Hi
    You can do this by using an xml playlist for your videos, (do a search for "creating flash xml playlists").

    I don't understand this. I am not a code expert by any means, but I was told that by purchasing the Deamweaver software I would not need to be a web developer to make a site?? The remainder of the site looks great, but I need to insert some video clips on this one page and it won't do it. Please help me!!

    Go to Sites > Manage Sites > Edit your site definition settings.  If you haven't defined a site yet, Hit NEW and set-up your Local Info first.
    Then, select Remote Info (it's in the Advanced panel).
    Fill in the fields with the log-in details your host sent you.   This is how DW will connect you to the remote server.
    NOTE: my screenshot looks different but you get the general idea.
    Hit OK.
    Select your test page in the Files Panel and hit the UP arrow to upload your page & dependant files to the remote server.   As Hans said earlier, you need all four files to support Flash Video.
    Come back and post the URL to your page.

  • I DRAG AND DROP A VIDEO CLIP FROM THE EVENT BROWSER THAT IS 7.9 SECONDS INTO MY IMOVIE I'VE STARTED AND IT CHANGES IN THE PROJECT TO 4.9 SECONDS - HOW CAN I KEEP THE LENGTH THE SAME

    I drag a video clip from Event to Project into my imovie I've started.  The video clip length changes from 7.9 seconds to 4.9 seconds. How can I stop that length from being changed?

    If you are using transitions either side of the clip they will use some of the clip to generate the effect, there isn't anything you can do unless you remove or shorten the transition.
    If you aren't using transitions it may be that you are only selecting part of the clip in the event window, try dragging out the yellow frame to include all the video you want in the project.

  • How do I adjust video clip and audio start times?

    I cant figure out how to adjust the start time of video clips and songs.  I want my music and video clips to start at different times. I am trying to have music and pictures start at the same time at the begining of the movie then transition into my videos at a specific time.   Also i am wondering if there is a way to combine the whole video and image segment into one block and be able to shift it up and down the timeline?  Does anyone know how to do this?  Thanks

    instead of adding music to the background, 'stick' the music-clip to your video clip => the music appears as a green bar, you can move, shorten etc as any other clip.
    …  if there is a way to combine the whole video and image segment into one block and be able to shift it up and down the timeline?  …

  • Importing video clips in AVCHD (Lite) into Aperture vs iMovie

    I'm trying to figure out which application I should use for importing and storing video clips shot on my Panasonic DMC-ZS7 camera. This camera can shoot in AVCHD (Lite) or in Motion JPEG. I use the AVCHD (Lite) format to shoot the videos with this camera.
    The two application options I currently have for importing video clips from this camera are:
    a. Aperture 3.5.1 (I'm not using iPhoto since I have Aperture).
    b. iMovie 10.0.1 (I'm not using Final Cut Pro)
    When I first got this camera, Aperture 3 did not support the AVCHD Lite codec. Back then, iMovie could import video clips shot in AVCHD Lite, but it had to transcode the AVCHD video clips into AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec). Some time later, one of the Aperture 3 updates made it possible to import AVCHD Lite into Aperture (without having to transode into an intermediate codec), so we started importing our video clips shot in AVCHD Lite (together with our photos shot by the same camera) directly into Aperture.
    iMovie 10 released in 2013 supports importing video clips shot in AVCHD Lite without having to transode them to AIC for storing these video clips in iMovie. So, now we have a dilemma that we need help with. Which application should we use going forward for importing video clips from this camera?
    When I look at the metadata for the imported videos in Aperture, I see that the format of the imported video clips is listed as H.264. However, I can't seem to be able to find any information about the format in which iMovie stores imported videos. I can "Reveal in Finder" a video that I import into iMovie, and I see the size of the file and the .mov extension assigned to the file. With video files, the extension does not always determine the codec of the file, but in my non-expert opinion, the .mov extension is not H.264; I may be totally wrong here, though. What I have noticed, though, is that a video clip imported into iMovie has the file size that is about 10% larger than the same video clip imported into Aperture.
    Therefore, I have three questions:
    1. What format is a video clip (shot in AVCHD Lite) stored in Aperture 3.5.1 and in iMovie 10.0.1
    2. Which format (the one used by Aperture or the one used in iMovie) is better suited for transoding AVCHD videos into? The balance of the quality and file size is the main consideration for us.
    3. Which applications would you personally prefer using for importing video clips to and why?
    I do want to use some of these video clips to make home videos in the future, utillizing iMovie. However, it seems I can still store the raw footage in Aperture and access this raw footage from iMovie to be able to create an iMovie project and a final home video. One of the concerns is that if we keep importing our video clips into Aperture, the Aperture library could grow beyond the size that Aperture can support and we may end up losing our photos due to the database corruption. Is this a real risk?
    Thank you!

    I had the same question recently. Go to the right of this box and a little above, into the Search Discussions window. Type in this: Is MPEG2 the answer
    You will find my question, and the great answers I got. Follow those directions and you will be all set!

    Regarding FLVs, there has been a great deal of discussion about this on this forum. Basically you need to conver the flv to a MOV or MP4 file. See this search:

  • Audio from video clip and layering

    ok, I need help! I finally figured out how to take audio from a video clip and place it over pictures or layer it over other audio. Now, I want to start with a video clip, it happens to be an interview, cut away to some pictures or other muted video, and come back to the interview, all with the audio playing the whole time and lined up correctly....how do i do this? THANKS!!

    Thanks David
    I found this here http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/#tutorial=extendaudio
    To extend audio across multiple clips:
    1. In the Project area, select the clip that contains the audio you’d like to extend into a second clip. Select the last few seconds of the first clip that contain the audio you want.
    2. To split the first clip, choose Edit > Split Clip.
    3. Control-click the selected clip and choose “Reveal in Event Browser.”
    4. In the Event browser, Command-Shift-drag the clip to extract the audio and place it at the start of the next clip.
    5. Delete the video portion of the clip you split in step 2.
    Because you’ve extracted the audio from exactly the part of the clip you split, the audio seamlessly plays across the next shot
    I am going to try this tonight and see how easy it is

  • Switch to different menus after different video clips?

    I'd like to make an instructional DVD where the student makes a choice from a menu, which takes him to one of, say, three clips. Each of those, after showing the clip, would then lead to a new choice / menu. I can't see how to do this with iDVD. Is it possible? Alternatively, is it possible to make a submenu start with a video clip before presenting its choice buttons?
    I've tried doing it from the map display, but there seems to be no way to add a menu (or anything else) after a video clip.
    Is there a limit to the number of submenus I can put on a DVD in this way?
    If this is not possible with iDVD, any suggestions about the simplest package I can get that will allow it?
    Thanks for any help.

    Interesting problem.
    iDVD cannot directly do what you want and I can't think of any iDVD workarounds that allow new choices to be made after playing a video (except at the top menu). I suppose if your video was very short, it could play as a menu button, and then the student could choose an item from that submenu.
    You could check into Roxio Toast 7. DVD Studio Pro ($$) allows you to target a specific menu once a video finishes playing, so it should work. It also allows hyperlinks (if you're using a computer) to connect to the web... which suggests a whole different kind of solution.
    If the students will be using a computer, why not integrate your videos into a web page? The files could be local, or on the internet, but you could have the interactivity you are looking for. And you should have the basic software (iWeb) to do that.
