Dreamweaver Help: Code Coloring specific tags

Hello everyone,
I would like to set some custom Code Colors on HTML tags in DW to help me in recognizing those tags when I open a page in DW's Code View. I was able to find this BLOG post saying that it this is possible in DW by updating some DW preference files; source: http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2009/02/code_coloring_specific_tags.html.. I am a non-technical person so I find it difficult to do the setup. The reason I want this is for me to easily find the text in Code View just by noticing the code color.
E.g. I want this <span class="specialText"> to have a red code color in DW's Code View
I hope there's someone who can guide me on how to accomplish this.
Thanks

Go to Edit > Preferences > Code Coloring > HTML > Edit Coloring Scheme.
In DW, <span> tags have the same color scheme as <p> and <h > tags.  I'm not sure  if you can change that.
As a workaround for quickly finding all span tags of a certain class, use Find (Ctrl+F), Specific Tag, Find All button.  See screenshot:

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Code Coloring not updating

    Hi,
Recently, when trying to edit the code coloring in Dreamweaver CS4, it will not update the colors after I hit "ok." Anyone know why this might be? I've tried restarting Dreamweaver, clearing the cache, and even seeing if it would work on new documents but none of that helps. Thanks for any help!
    - Matt

Are you sure you're changing colors for you open document ?
I have issue with coloring too, but I thought after all this time CS5 will finally have Save option for exactly this issue. So I don't have to repeat this over and over again.

  • Dreamweaver CS6 and Coldfusion 9 - Syntax Errors & Code Coloring

    I recently purchased Dreamweaver CS6.
Also, I'm running Coldfusion 9 on Windows 7, but that's probably irrelevant.
The issue is that Dreamweaver keeps on marking my files with syntax errors, and the code coloring gets all messed up.
For instance, such function would indicate an error due to the #var#:
    <cfoutput><script>functionXYZ(#var#);<script><cfoutput>
But this would work just fine:
    <script>functionXYZ(<cfoutput>#var#<cfoutput>);<script>
The issue is that I have entire pages wrapped in cfoutput, redoing everything would take months.
Or this would break the code coloring for the entire select as such:
    <select <cfif test eq 'test'>class="test"</cfif> name="selectbox">
While this breaks the code coloring for the closing cfif as such:
    <select class="<cfif test eq 'test'>test</cfif>" name="selectbox">
I'm getting syntax errors on thousands of my files, I understand that I could rewrite the code slightly to remove some of the error indications, but these are not actual errors so I feel that there is no point of me spending months updating the code.
Is there a patch that I can apply so that this would work without any of these issues?
    Can someone please help?

Have you posted this question in the Cold Fusion Forums?
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/coldfusion
I don't use CF myself and the few CF coders I know have long since moved to Eclipse/ColdFusion Builder.

  • Can't search for specific tag - Dreamweaver 8

All of a sudden, I can no longer search for a specific tag in
Dreamweaver 8 (Mac OS 10.4.6). It was working fine and I had just
run a sitewide search, then boom! The attribute plus (+) and
minus(-) signs appear over the text "Search:" right next to the
dropdown box that says Specific Tag. It only happens in the tag
    search option.
Clicking on the plus or minus does nothing, and when I try to
run the search, I receive the error that one of my attribute fields
    is empty.
I've tried a reinstall and restart, but that did nothing.
Please help!! I NEED this function! Thanks.

Shutdown DW and manually delete the Preferences file.
I can't remember where to find the file on the Mac, so
    hopefully one of
our Mac gurus can chime in here!
    Thanks,

  • Error in Dreamweaver: Unknown Adobe color transform code 2

I am getting an error in Dreamweaver: Unknown Adobe color transform code 2. Can anyone tell me what is causing this and what to do?

Not encountered that problem before, but unusual messages after performing a particular action in Dreamweaver are normally the sign that you have a corrupt cache file. Instructions on how to remove the corrupt file are here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494811.

  • Dreamweaver syntax hilight (color scheme) in Edge Code

It's not the fact that I'm so much in love with DW syntax hilighting..
But I'm so used to it that for code writing speed and immediacy I'd like to have the html/php/css/js code colored exactly as in Dreamweaver..
Is there a way to achieve that?
I also tried to load some Brackets extensions but it outputs me an error and places them into the "disabled" folder..
    Thanks a lot!!

Edge Code is a re-branding of Brackets, but it's not updated with every new release of Brackets. You'll need to install Brackets (http://brackets.io) which has Themes built-in to the latest version (0.43), then you can install Themes extensions. If you don't see Themes that you like, you can create your own.

  • Import code coloring xml and code snippets into dreamweaver cc 2014

How do I import my code coloring xml file and code snippets from the earlier version of dreamweaver into cc 2014?

Thanks, Preran. After uninstalling the 2014.1 update and reinstalling the previous version, I now installed the 2014.1 update again. Instead of jumping straight into restoring the preferences, I decided to test it out as-is, and it worked! No problems with pasting after opening any of my five browsers. I wonder what may have gone wrong the first time...or what was corrected during the uninstall/reinstall process. In any case, it is working again now and I am grateful. Thanks!

Need Dreamweaver code coloring scheme installation instructions (for Creative Cloud CS6)
    I'm on a mac os x 10.7.4

Might check to see if you have an older version of Acrobat X installed previously under
Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers
If you have an uninstaller for Acrobat X try uninstalling it then installing again like you did through Creative Cloud.

  • Code coloring error in HTML5 templates

    Is it just me?
In both HTML5 templates (two or three column), that one can select after select 'New' from the 'File' menu the code is all grayed out after the browser conditional:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    <!--[if lt IE 9]>
    <script src="http://html5shiv.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html5.js">##HERE##</script>
    <![endif]--></head>
<!-- This HTML comment is here for no other reason but to fix the code coloring in Dreamweaver -->
Code coloring is fine up to my indicator ##HERE## above, after that all grayed out till next end HTML commnet '-->'.
I can fix it, lamely, with the comment you see above, "<!-- This HTML...-->"
If the line <script ...>...</script> is removed from in between the conditional tags everything is fine.
    Thanks for any help.

Just put a blank html comment <!----> after<! [endif] ->, the problem will disappear, the color will appear
    example:
    <!--[ IF lt IE 9]>
    <scriptsrc="http://html5shiv.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html5.js"> </ script>
    <! [endif] -> <!---->

  • Code Coloring - black background

Has somebody Dreamweaver 8 configured to use black background
in Code Editor? If so, please distribute the ColorCodings XML files
    somewhere.
    Thank you very much
    cs

If you are comfortable manually editing Registry/Preferences
    and raw
    XML, then try this:
    1. Shutdown DW
    2. Edit Configuration/CodeColors/Colors.xml and do a global
    change of
    "#000000" (black) to "#FFFFFF" (white).
Note: be sure to edit Colors.xml in your User (not
    Application)
Configuration folder. This TechNote explains the difference:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_16420
    3. (On Windows) Using regedit, go to:
    \\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8\Tag
    Colors
Change all "#000000" (black) values to "#FFFFFF" (white)
    Change "Background Color" to "#000000"
    Close regedit
    4. Restart DW.
You may need to tweak a few settings in Code Coloring editor,
    but that
should get you most of the way there.
    Hope this helps,

  • Dreamweaver as code generator for use in other applications?

Hello and thank you in advance for your time and your help!
I realize and apologize for this lengthy post but I had to explain my issue thoroughly...
I've just begun teaching myself to use Dreamweaver CS3 (on an iMac running OS X 10.5.8 - Leopard) with the  "Dreamweaver CS3 Missing Manual". I don't know HTML or CSS but am very  willing to learn as much as I can. In the near future, I hope to create a  new website for my domain in Dreamweaver. However, I have an urgent and  immediate need and would like to know whether Dreamweaver can serve a specific purpose...
My question is whether I will still be able to accomplish the following (even if it is by different means) once I convert to Dreamweaver from FrontPage AND whether or not I should abolish all of the current files at my web server and remove FrontPage extensions before I invest any time into making Dreamweaver my new tool for website development and maintenance.
I have a domain hosted by GoDaddy and a rather old website that I created using FrontPage 2002 (on a Windows XP desktop). For over 5 years now, I've used FrontPage so that I can work WYSIWYG to generate HTML code that I use in my eBay auction listings. Recently, however, the "network folder" for my web server (on the Windows XP desktop) stopped accepting my password and I cannot find a fix for it. It's my opportunity to finally break from FrontPage but I'm hoping that, before I do, someone can tell me whether or not Dreamweaver can serve my interim and long-term purposes.
I've been uploading image files using the "network folder" in Windows XP that I set up with FrontPage over 5 years ago. I "drag and drop" or "cut and paste" image files from my computer to my web server in Windows Explorer via the "network folder". Once the images are on the web server, I open FrontPage and ensure that the images show up in my web server files. I then open an existing .html document that I have saved on my hard drive, replace text and images within the file, save the file under a different file name, and then switch to code view where I copy the code directly from FrontPage into my eBay listing. This works perfectly well and has for over 5 years. I do not publish these .html files to the web, nor do I upload the .html files to my web server. They exist only on my hard drive and simply to provide the underlying HTML code for the eBay listings and nothing more. This method allows the images in my eBay auctions to be automatically sourced to their location on my web server without requiring me to do anything more than insert the image(s) from my web server into the .html document/file.
I think I'm discovering that Dreamweaver works specifically with websites and I'm wondering whether I can use it more generically in this way. If I'm learning correctly, Dreamweaver is quite particular about web server files having an exact match to a root folder on my hard drive. I've defined my site within Dreamweaver and I've since downloaded all existing files from my web server to my hard drive within a folder that is designated as the root folder. However, when I now open an existing .html document (one originally created in FrontPage and stored on my hard drive only) and replace an image (by cutting the existing image and dragging the other from the "remote view" of the "files" pane) with one that exists both on my web server and in my root folder, Dreamweaver makes the source/reference path point to the image file on my hard drive and, as you know, that won't do if I transfer that code to my eBay listing. So I've uploaded the actual .html file to the web server within Dreamweaver (something that I never had to do with FrontPage) and now I can change the HTML code manually (or the source in the "properties" panel for the image) for the image source to include "http://mydomain/..." (it doesn't include that automatically as FrontPage did). That now seems to make the code work but I have to store my .html files on the server and I have to make that manual change.
My question is whether I will still be able to do accomplish  the following (even if it is by different means) once I convert to  Dreamweaver from FrontPage AND whether or not I should abolish all of  the current files at my web server and remove FrontPage extensions  before I invest any time into making Dreamweaver my new tool for website  development and maintenance.
Thank you very sincerely for taking the time to read this and for your response and good advice!

Get Turbo Lister (a free page editing and listing tool from eBay).
    http://pages.ebay.com/turbo_lister/
eBay uses some seriously flawed markup on their auction pages.  In fact, they don't even ALLOW you to use good code. You're better off using their proprietary tools for this.   IMO, DW is not the right tool for creating eBay pages.
When you're ready to build a serious web site, come back to Dreamweaver.

  • Make DW use JS code-coloring instead of PHP

I have a Javascript file that has a .php extension because of
some dynamic elements on the page. I also can't wrap the code in
<script> tags because of the way it loads. So basically, I
need to tell DW to use JS code coloring on this page instead of PHP
(right now, everything except the PHP is black text). Any way to
force it to associate the file with a specific file type, instead
of basing it on the file extension?

You can "fake" the script tags and fool the code coloring
scheme by adding to the top of the file:
    // <script>
and to the bottom of the file:
    // </script>
As the // are single line comments in JavaScript when the
file is loaded by the browser it won't see the script tags, but the
code coloring engine seems to be tricked and begins working on the
JavaScript code that is not within the <?php ?> code blocks.

  • Code Coloring

My network administrator informed me that he would like to
use all .htm file extensions on our site, and that he will program
the server to render PHP tags within the .htm files for our
    web-apps.
However, for development work I would still like to apply the
PHP code-coloring within files that have .htm extension. Can I tell
    Dreamweaver to do this?
    Thanks!

What was old is new again!
Similar to the original poster, my IT area has set up the web server to process all .HTM files as if they were .ASP. Subsequently, I cannot view my HTM files as they would appear if they were "true" ASP files in Dreamweaver CS5. I applied the changes described in TechNote 16410 to MMDocumentTypes.xml (removing the HTM extension from the winfileextension and macfileextension attirbutes of the HTML InternalType and adding the HTM extension to the winfileextension and macfileextension attirbutes of the ASP-VBScript InternalType). I moved HTM in Extensions.txt from the HTML Documents line to Active Server Pages line and I removed the backup I had made of MMDocumentTypes.xml from the Adobe directory.
Based on another posting in this forum regarding code coloring, I added <%@LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT"%> to the first line of my HTM (ASP) file.
No matter which file with the HTM extension I open in Dreamweaver, I get this message:
I also need to terminate Dreamweaver using Windows XP's Task Manager. File > Close, the application close button, Ctrl+Q and Alt+F4 do not work.

  • Code Coloring - adding extensions

Does anyone know how to make .inc files (or any extension)
use the .php code coloring scheme (or any scheme) in Dreamweaver 9
(CS3)? The tech note I found among these messages applies to
Dreamweaver MX, but not all configuration files mentioned in the
tech article are found in the DW9/CS3 configuration.

    theopan,
OK, I think I understand the problem now. The
    MMDocumentTypes.xml file
is no longer automatically copied from the Application
    Configuration
folder to the User Configuration folder, so you need to
    manually copy it.
    Hope this helps,

  • Document type in Code Coloring  preference

Edit, preference in Dreamweaver MX 2004, under code coloring
category, I can't see the various document type in Machine A but I
can see ASP JavaScript, PHP, Cold Fusion etc in Machine B, do
    anybody know why????Configuration problem???
How do I get it back????Pls help

It sounds like you may have some missing or corrupted
    Configuration
files in the CodeColoring and DocumentType sub-folders.
Start by disabling any extensions that you have installed.
    After that,
the easiest solution is probably to uninstall/reinstall.
