Dreamweaver templates site authentication support
Dreamweaver templates site authentication support
Hi all, i beginning user with that app, now i´m developing an aplication for my same work this includes a web site with user authentication, at this moment i can create all web pages with authetication but i have diferent user's level access and some templates for any level, i need to add that authentication support to each template, because if i add to the template the restricted access it's not work, i think you understand my situation and sorry for my poor english.
Thanks in Advance

Is it correct that you have to "put" each page sperately? I modified a few of my pages and the only way I could get them to update on my website was to go to each page then go Site - Put, i had to do this for every page i had modified. Also my original issue has been resolved by opening each page allowing the template to update the page and then save then go Site - Put for each and repeat for every page on my site. even though all pages have been created from the same template and when the template is updated i say yes to updating all other pages. Is this how it's meant to work?
Yes.
DW Templates only propagate changes in the non-editable regions of the Template to child pages locally.
Once you've updated all child pages on your local hard drive, you must then upload them all to the web as a separate step.
That's the cumbersome downside to using DW Templates.
I don't use them personally. I prefer Server Side Includes to insert identical content sitewide on websites.

The programs are completely different and are created by different teams, so you can't make such an assumption. This type of change is unlikely to be made in a minor update to Dreamweaver. If you want this feature added, submit a feature request through the form at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform. If sufficient people request a feature, it's likely to be implemented. -
Hello!
I am working on new website we are creating for our company. I have never really had any Dreamweaver template file errors before...so this one has me really stumped! We purchased the site files from Template Monster and I have contacted their tech support, but I have not had much luck with them.
I started out by creating the Dreamweaver template folder that includes the template files that I would like to use. I started creating some pages using the template. I placed all the html pages in the main folder of the website. When I go to update the template to those pages I get the following error: "Error reading file (Site Location\Folder name\Dreamweaver template name) returned incomplete data".
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!
The site is a CSS based site with a Flash navigation menu. Since it is in the production phase, I do not yet have it placed on a server so you can take a look at it at this time (although if really needed and we cannot find an answer, I may be able to get the test site on line - if someone thinks they can help me answer this problem by viewing the site). Right now the site is housed in the same place we house all of the other sites we have produced and all of our other templates on our other websites work just fine. The main difference with this site is that we did purchase files from Template Monster to help speed us along during the construction of the page structures and also this site has a Flash Navigation Menu and a few other Flash elements (something our other sites do not really have).
I am using Abobe Dreamweaver CS5 and Windows 7
Thanks again for taking the time to help find and answer to this problem!
-JI am curious as to why no one likes them around here.
They have spammed these forums in the past.
The code on their pages is rarely 'best-practice' code.
There are much better choices available.
My co-worker and I have to share the files, since we are editing the site together. The files are not local on our computers, but on the company's f drive that have Novell on it.
This arrangement is a recipe for disaster. The correct way to collaborate on a site with a colleague is with the following setup:
Each of you must have a LOCAL site (local to your workstation)
You would use a single remote location as a staging area, so each of you would have a site definition that specifies your own workstation for the local site, and the same network shared location as the Remote site
You will both need to enable Check In/ Check Out
You will both have to agree to PLAY BY THE RULES!
One (or both) of you will also need to have a second site defined that has the staging server as the local root folder, and would have the PRODUCTION server as the remote site. I'll explain how to use this site soon.
When you use CI/CO, your 'gold-standard files' are on the staging server. To begin working, you would connect to the staging server, and double click on a file, which will a) fetch the file from the staging server to your local site, and b) CHECK OUT the file to you. As long as you have the file checked out, it cannot be edited by your colleague. When you are done with your edit, you would CHECK IN the file (which uploads it to the staging server). It can now be edited by your colleague.
When you add templates to this scenario, things get even more complicated, although manageable. If you ever need to make a change to a template you must use the following procedure:
ALL FILES MUST BE CHECKED IN - this includes both you and your colleague.
One of you would connect with the SECOND SITE, open and edit the template, and save it propagating the changes to all "LOCAL" files (i.e., on the staging server).
Each of you would then need to return to the FIRST SITE, and again check out any files you want to work on.
When changes are done, and files are ready to publish, connect to the SECOND SITE, and upload the files from STAGING to PRODUCTION.
Does that make sense? It's important that it does.
I need to add in one more tab/link to the Flash nav bar.
Using Flash for navigation is a VERY POOR CHOICE, unless you also have redundant, text-based navigation on the pages. By using Flash to navigate, you guarantee: a) your pages will not be spiderable by search engines, b) your pages will not be navigable by iPlatforms, and c) your pages will be inaccessible to anyone browsing with screen assistive devices. Someone is making bad decisions about this site, in my opinion. -
Need Help Reslicing Photoshop Site Layout to Update Dreamweaver Template
I created a website in adobe photoshop cs3 and sliced it up
to created an html file with sliced images. My main navigation menu
is made up of graphics.
I brought it into dreamweaver and created editable regions,
created rollovers etc. Then I created a dreamweaver template from
that to create the rest of the web pages for my site.
The client has come back to me and wants to add more menu
options to the site. This is where I'm stuck! When I use photoshop
to make more menu slices, it renumbers them. How do I export the
new slices with the new layout so I can use them to update my
dreamweaver template. How can I get those new slices/html layout to
the dreamweaver template without losing all the work I have done on
my current dreamweaver template?
issuenite> Why does photohshop even provided a slicing feature if
it does not provide
> good code?
The slicing is not the problem. It's the export as HTML that
is the
problem. And you'd have to ask Adobe that question if you
want an answer.
We are all just volunteer peers here.
> What is better about Fireworks? I have the program but

FW HTML is no better.
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/fireworks/articles/why_fireworks.html
At any rate, read this -
http://apptools.com/rants/spans.php
- and then look
at your code and count colspan, and rowspan attributes.
Unfortunately, the
only way to avoid this mess is to learn enough HTML/CSS that
you can build
your own tables in DW, and do it in such a way that you don't
rely on
merging and splitting cells (which is what generates those
colspan and
rowspan attributes).
Again, unfortunately, you are REALLY stuck in a bad
situation. Since you
have a) used a completely graphic menu button array, and b)
used a graphic
background behind the menu buttons, and c) chosen to embed
that graphic
background in each sliced button, you cannot add new buttons
without
remaking the entire menu. You will only make that mistake
once. I never
start building menus until I have an approved site plan in
hand. By the
way, that's a nice looking layout.
I don't see any clear path to salvation here. Since you are
absolutely tied
to PS for exporting the HTML and slices, you will have to
recreate
everything, I believe.

Migrating from legacy site / dreamweaver templates
We are going to migrate to the weblogic portal content management over the next few months - we have thousands of pages on our old site that were created using dreamweaver templates.
Is there a way to automate the migration - to import the old html files? I could use the dreamweaver template to strip out the old design. But then how would I import it? What have other users done when migrating from an old static site to a content management system? You can use bulk loader utility of WLP. Please see the link http://edocs.bea.com/wlp/docs102/cm/bulkloader.html

What about sites NOT created with Dreamweaver templates
I am using Dreamweaver CS3 (no templates), and code most everything by hand (html, javascript and CSS). Would it work to have people in my office adding content to these existing sites with Contribute CS5 since there are NO Dreamweaver templates in place?
Html webpages are editable in Contribute.

NEW! Free Dreamweaver templates WITH Fireworks vector files
I just released some free Dreamweaver templates that include
not only the Dreamweaver template dwt file, but also the original
pre-sliced Fireworks file with all the template graphics.
The templates include the dwt, Fireworks file, pure CSS
menus, are AdSense-ready, XHTML 1.0 valid and are very customizable
through both the Fireworks file and the CSS.
If you use one, let me know so I can get a screenshot and
post a link to your site showing how the templates have been
customized by various designers.
Cheers!

Dreamweaver 8 FrontPage Extension Support?
Hi All,
I have posted this question in the Exchange Forum but I have
not received a response so I am expanding the question to the
General Forum in the hope that one/some of you have seen this
problem.
I have a client that requires me to work with a FrontPage
enabled server and to use FrontPage extensions. As some of you may
know there is an Extension, published by Adobe, that enables DW and
DWMX 2004 to work with FrontPage Extensions. These extensions
create an additional drop down menu item option in the 'Remote
Info' Category of the Site Definition Wizard.
However, the latest extension (for DW MX 2004) does not work
in DW8; the extra FrontPage extension option fails to appear in the
Site Definition wizard's Remote Info Access category.
Does anyone know how to enable DW8 to work with FrontPage
extensions and FrontPage enabled servers? Should the MX 2004
extension work in DW8? Should I be using a different exchange
download or can the MX 2004 extension be modified locally to allow
access to the FrontPage Extensions?
Any help, as always, is much appreciated.
Thanks.

www.barkingweb.comBefore doing anything else, take a couple of weeks to
gothrough the DW
tutorials, and also to study HTML and CSS. The more you know
about those,
the easier your transition will be. DW expects alot more from
you than FP
did, and as a result, you may find it much more frustrating
to have the raw
reality of web development staring you in the face rather
than the wizards
of FP.
> Is there a way to convert a Frontpage site into a
> Dreamweaver site
1. I'd define a Dreamweaver site that points to a location on
your hard
drive for the local site's root, and to the current FP site
on the web as
the remote site
2. I'd use Dreamweaver (if your host supports FTP
connections) to download
the remote site to the root of the site you just defined on
the hard drive.
This will pick up all the pages *after* webbot action so that
shared borders
and all are already present in the page HTML. This will also
pick up all of
the server scripting. Note - in the event that you are not
able to connect
using FTP since some FP hosts block that protocol, you will
have to use a
third party 'site copier' like Black Widow, QuadSucker, or
WebCopier, (or
even the DW extension called SiteAssist from WebAssist) to
connect and
download using http protocols. Doing it this way will *not*
retrieve any of
your server-script code, if any (unless you have used the
WebAssist
extension).
3. I'd create a DW template for the pages, that captures the
"shared
border"
effect you had in FP.
4. I'd copy and paste content from each FP pages to a new
template child
page and then save the new child page with an easily
identifiable
nomenclature that is distinct from what was used on the FP
site (since you
are saving the new child pages into the same local site as
the FP pages).
5. When the basic site is completed, I'd upload the new DW
pages to some
staging area/webspace, and by using the browser, I'd verify
that the site
(as it now exists remotely) is complete.
6. Then I'd create a *new* DW site in a new location on the
hard drive, and
connect to and download all the files from the staging site.
7. You can now delete the original FP site from your local
system if you
want.
You now have a complete site (minus any of the FP extension
server-side
code) that has no FP footprint.
If you have used any FP server extension functions on the
original FP site
(form processing, guestbooks, tables of contents, etc.), you
will have to
recreate those functions in DW using 3rd party scripts, or
scripts that you
write yourself.
If this site will continue to be 'touched' by FP, don't even
think of using
DW on it.

hi, i am having trouble with a dreamweaver template. the
links in the template do not match the links in the pages i have
created using that template, in that they have a
"..template/somepage.html" whereas in the template it is just
"somepage.html". why does it do this? i have recreated the page,
reapplied the template to the page, recreated my site cache,
recreated a template and a new page and it still isn't working. ??
i am sure it is a simple answer but after reading through the
forums i am not sure what my next step should be.
thank you.> "somepage.html".
If you have a link like that in a template file then you have
made a
mistake. You should never have links that imply other files
are at the same
folder level as the template itself. The most common cause
for this is to
manually enter the link into the template file. Don't do
that. Use the
Browse function to browse to and select the desired target
file.

Dreamweaver Template Without Dreamweaver
Hi.
I'm doing an internship for the semester and the place i work is having me redesign their intranet. I'll be gone in December, and while no immediate changes will really need to be made, over time they will probably want to do something such as adding a link in the side menu...
The problem is, I don't think they use Dreamweaver--if they're using another web design program, is it possible for them to edit the dreamweaver template I've created for them?
Thanks.Another approach is to use Server-Side Includes (text files) that contain hyperlinks, common headers & footers for example. Person responsible for updates could edit the SSI files in any html editor. Upload to server and the server would populate changes throughout the site.

Edit First line in dreamweaver templates
Hello,
When I create a page from a Dreamweaver template, a
dreamweaver comment similar to the one below will be inserted:
<!-- #BeginTemplate "/Templates/test.dwt" -->
Each time I edit a page to add php code in the very first
line, it is removed with every template update and the source code
again starts with the dreamweaver comment. I need to add to all my
pages a php code in the very first line like this one:
<? $ob_start; $session_start; ?>
How can I do that without removing the code from my pages
with each template update. Another problem is that I can't insert a
placeholder in the very first line of a dreamweaver template. Above
that the first line is locked in dreamweaver, so that I can't
change it manually. Is there any workaround available?
Thanks,

Put the code ABOVE the <html> tag.
Which DW are you using? It looks like DW4 or earlier....

Flash banner in a Dreamweaver Template
Hi all,
I am using one of the provided Dreamweaver Templates (CSS).
All is fine, except that for some reason it does not like Flash
imports. I can alter the template as much as I like and it will
always successfully change across the site, BUT if I try to insert
a Flash movie/banner into the template - then it does not appear of
ANY of the site files. The only way I can see the flash banner, is
if I open the template.php file in a browser - then you can see
that it is in fact there and working - but for some reason the
other pages refuse to acknolwegde it. Images / Tables / Text - all
work fine - just not flash banners. I even tried saving the banner
as a JPG file in Flash, then sticking the JPG file in the template
where the banner should - and it worked perfectly, but as a .swf
extension it fails.
Am I missing something?
Nathan> BUT if I try to insert a Flash movie/banner into the
template - then it
> does not appear of ANY of the site files.
Because of the active content .js fix, when you insert a .swf
file into a
template, you must use a Site Root relative path for it.
Open the .dwt template file.
Double-click on the .swf in design view- the "browse to file"
dialog box
should come up showing the currently selected file.
look in the bottom of that dialog box for the pulldown to
change from
document relative path to site root relative path. Change it
to site root.
click okay and save the file, and let changes propagate.
does it show in the child files now?
[note- It may still not show during local preview because
site root relative
paths in javascript will not make any sense during local
preview- they
should work fine on the remote host if the site has it's own
domain name
though]

Dreamweaver Templates with Web Gallery
I have built a site in dreamweaver CS4 I have used a Dreamweaver Template for my pages. Rather than clog my pages up with images I used Adobe Bridge to create a web gallery, It created a gallery ok and I saved it to my hard drive. It created two items, a resourses folder and an "index" file. So I I copied and pasted the two items into my Dreamweaver folder I created and called SS_Bridge. I pointed a link I created to point to the "index" file within the SS_Bridge Folder in Dreamweaver, Will this create a problem as there will be two "Index" files within my site
jjrutterThe "home" page index file would be at the root level of the site. Other folders within the root can all have their own index (default) files.

DreamWeaver Template change not updating children webpages?
Hi Group,
Sorry for my newbie question here.
I loaded an HTML webpage, and saved it out as a DreamWeaver Template file.
I then created webpages from the template file (( File - New - Page From Template - Site - Template), and made sure that the "Update Page when Template Changes" check box was selected/checked.
I then created several chldren webpages, and saved them as .html files.
I decided to change the navbar system - part of the uneditiabel region in the template - by opening the template file and edit-ing that file, and then saving it as the same DreamWeaver template file.
However, the webpages did Not Update to reflect the navbar changes in the template fle !??!???
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I believe it is something that I'm doing incorrectly with DreamWeaver ..
Here is the HTML if anyone is interested.

No -I haven't been able to get the DW Template feature to work on other sites - this is my first application of it to a website (actually it's the whole reason for getting DreamWeaver... I know it works, I know that I'm doing something wrong.. I just don't know what it is...)
All the .HTML files (index.html, cad.html, cam.html, etc. etc.) are in the website's root directory.
The Template file is in its own sub-directory folder named "Templates".
Right now even the .css file is in the root directory....
Thank You for trying to help me - I greatly appreciate it.

Problem Uploading Dreamweaver Template
Hi,
I am using Dreamweaver 8, and decided to revise my website
using a Dreamweaver template. The pages look GREAT when I preview
them in Firefox or IE. But when I uploaded the home page, using an
FTP program, the page looked like a mess! None of the columns in
the template were there. The formatting is all wrong, and the links
don't work! This page is horrible! I don't understand since they
looked great in the preview. Can somebody tell me what I've done
wrong?
If you'd like to view the mess, it's at

Thanks!> If you'd like to view the mess, it's at

there's a problem with the way you've defined this site in
dreamweaver.
the link you gave is at the root level of the public hosting
for that
domain.
but the css link is:
<link rel="stylesheet"
href="../karathecomputertutor4.1/3col_leftNav.css
and the links farther down in the page also are "../
that means go up one folder level.
there is no up from the root level.
The site needs to be defined so that the "homepage" file,
index.html is at
the root level of what you've picked for the Local Site
Folder.
and, all the site files need to be in the Local Site Folder
of course.
and, the remote has to show the public level, with the
index.html file in
the root (use the "Host Directory" line in dw if your files
need to go into
a folder like "public_html" or "www" for example)

Do F-32 Clear Customer and Process Open Items just do BKPF/BSEG adds/chgs ?
!uestion 1: When a user executes F-32 in "clear customer" and "process open items" modalities, are BKPF and BSEG the only tables that actually get changed via adds or updates? Or are there other tables affected as well? Question 2: If BKPF and BSEG
