DRG-50901: text query parser syntax error
The query
SELECT * FROM ij
where
CONTAINS (ij.summary, 'ATTENZIONE!') > 0 returns an error:
ORA-29902: error in executing ODCIIndexStart() routine
ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
DRG-50901: text query parser syntax error on line 1, column 13
Why?
There is a TEXT index on the summary column:
CREATE INDEX IJL_SUMMARY_IX ON IJ
(SUMMARY)
INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT
PARAMETERS('
lexer MITO_LEXER
wordlist DEFAULT_WORDLIST
stoplist IJL_STOPLIST
storage IJL_TEXT_STORAGE
SYNC (EVERY "SYSDATE + 10/1440")')
PARALLEL ( DEGREE 4 INSTANCES 1 );where the MITO_LEXER is
BEGIN
CTX_DDL.create_preference ('mito_lexer', 'BASIC_LEXER');
CTX_DDL.set_attribute ('mito_lexer', 'INDEX_STEMS', 'ITALIAN');
-- MITO-318: search on Text Index for Asterisks
CTX_DDL.set_attribute ('mito_lexer', 'printjoins', '*');
END;
/
Because the exclamation mark ("!") is a reserved operator, meaning soundex, and must appear before the word it applies to.

Hello guys,
I rather need an advice and my experience with the Oracle forums has always been auspicious.
I am using jDeveloper 11gR2 and Oracle database 11.2.0.1. Running the following query I have a view object based on that query and a search form with results table.
SELECT
SEEKER.SEEKER_ID SEEKER_ID,
SEEKER.CV CV,
SCORE(1)
FROM
SEEKER
WHERE CONTAINS(CV, '<query>
<textquery lang="ENGLISH" grammar="context">' ||
GET_RELATED_CATEGORIES(:keyword) ||
'</textquery>
<score datatype="INTEGER"/>
</query>', 1) > 0
GET_RELATED_CATEGORIES is a function which returns concatenated strings querying some semantic data in my database. The problem is when GET_RELATED_CATEGORIES returns null the "text query parser" is throwing an exception (that is how it is supposed to act).
I am asking for any suggestions for the implementation of that functionality and will be really grateful. Shall I export the whole query in a remote procedure and maybe call it as a web service or there is any other better solution (maybe some checks).
Thank you in advance!I see two possible ways you can try.
1. cause the function in a way that no null value is returned (return an empty string '')
2. put a nvl (get..., '') around the function

Oracle Text query parser - sample code
I've posted a new entry on my "searchtech" blog which includes code for a "Google-like" query syntax parser:
https://blogs.oracle.com/searchtech/entry/oracle_text_query_parser
Currently it's just sample code, but if it goes down well we might include it, or something similar, in a future release of the product.
I'd very much welcome feedback on it, either here on the forum, or on the blog, or directly to me email address (which is included in the download file).
Thanks, everyone.When I select the "open in browser" option for each now, I get formatted, readable code, which can easily be copied and pasted into a file without the extra txt extension, and I much prefer that. So, for me, that is a sufficient fix.
It seems like this is handy, virtually idiot-proof code, easy to create the package, easy to use it, and provides the Google-like search that users expect, without raising errors or producing unexpected results. Frequently, on the OraFAQ forums, where I am a moderator, when there are various ways to solve a problem and I provide a Text solution, the complaint is that it is too complicated to create all of the formatting to fix potential problems with user input. Your code solves that problem and I hope it will be included in the next version. If you don't mind, I will post an announcement in the OraFAQ Text forum with the permanent link that you provided. -
DRG-50901 error cannot be reproduced to our test enviroments. Any ideas?
We get the following error
10:59:10,538#org.hibernate.util.JDBCExceptionReporter#ORA-29902: error in executing ODCIIndexStart() routine
ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
DRG-50901: text query parser syntax error on line 1, column 1
From the logs we can see that the error was produced two times when the following keywords were searched:
1) key
2) doctoral
In our test enviroments when we search those keywords we cannot reproduce the error.
Also, we parse the search keywords doing what is described below:
1) escape reserved characters with "/", e.g test { becomes test/{
2) replace double quoted phrases with curly braces for exact match "test something" becomes {test something}
3) escape reserved words and add commas between words in order to search all the words of a phrase e.g looking something becomes /looking,/something
The exact query that runs and fails to the client is:
SELECT rownum as id,
x.* from (
SELECT SCORE(1) score,
ctx_doc.snippet('eqf_trans_ot_idx', et.EQF_TRANS_ID, '/key') as snippet
FROM eqf_trans et
WHERE 1 = 1
AND contains(et.ORACLE_TEXT_COLUMN, '/key', 1) > 0)x
WHERE ROWNUM<= 100;
and
SELECT rownum as id,
x.* from (
SELECT SCORE(1) score,
ctx_doc.snippet('eqf_trans_ot_idx', et.EQF_TRANS_ID, '/doctoral') as snippet
FROM eqf_trans et
WHERE 1 = 1
AND contains(et.ORACLE_TEXT_COLUMN, '/doctoral', 1) > 0)x
WHERE ROWNUM<= 100;
Any ideas why this may occur or how I can reproduce it???You get the following stack:
ORA-29902: error in executing ODCIIndexStart() routine
ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
DRG-50901: text query parser syntax error on line 1, column 1
when there is just about any syntax error caused by your search string, such as searching for a reserved word or stop word or null value. From what you have supplied, that does not appear to be the case. However, there are some unusual things about your query. You say that you are using / to escape, but the escape character is \ not /. You have where 1=1 which suggests that you may be constructing and executing the query dynamically. You use rownum in an outer query, but have not ordered in the inner sub-query.
I suspect that what you are running may be different from what you are posting and think you are running. You need to provide an actual copy and paste. It also helps if you include things like create table statement and insert statement for sample data, and create index statement. The various preferences in an index can make a big difference. You can use ctx_report.create_index_script to obtain and provide that.
There is a chance that you have hit some sort of bug. You should provide your Oracle version and try to narrow the problem down by eliminating one thing at a time. For example if you can show that the query does not produce an error with "where contains ..." but produces an error with "where 1=1 and contains ..." then that is significant. -
Hi All
I am using interMedia in Oracle 9i (9.2). with oracle FORM 6i
I have a PL/SQL procedure with a ref cursor, which perform a fairly simple select for searching text. I got perfect result when I run it as stand alone query outside of the procedure. But when I call it from the form it wok for some search words, but give me error (DRG-50901 :text query parser syntax error on line 1, column 1) when I use certain words (tax, personal, property, tif) what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance for your help.

Context search if char [ or ( is typed by mistake - error DRG-50901

But it does not work as I expect
The CTXCAT Query Language
Once the ctxcat index is created, you query using the operator
catsearch
instead of contains:
select item_desc from auction
where catsearch(item_desc, 'oracle', null)>0;
This finds all rows in auction which have "oracle" in the
item_desc text.
Like contains, the first argument is the text column, and the
second is the
query string. The third argument we'll talk about below -- just
ignore it
for now. There is no score label argument, because catsearch
does not
provide scoring -- it is a simple boolean search.
The catsearch operator uses a much simpler query language than
contains,
with the intent that web-style queries can be passed through to
catsearch
without extra parsing. The query language rules are:
* Multiple words are treated as an AND.
* Vertical bar is used for OR.
* A leading plus sign on words is ignored and discarded
* A leading minus sign excludes words (must have included
words)
* Double quotes delimit phrases.
* Parentheses group operations.
Or, in comparison:
catearch Query Equivalent contains query
A B A & B
A | B A | B
+A -B A ~ B
"A B" A B
"A B" C (A B) & C
(A B) | C (A & B) | C
AND, OR, AND-NOT, and PHRASE are the only functions currently
available in the
catsearch query language. catsearch does not support any of the
other
features found in the context query language such as accum,
within, fuzzy,
stem, wildcard, thesaurus, near, etc. -
Hi all,
I get an error DRG-50901 :text query parser syntax error on line 1, column 1
when i use the score function
table DOCUMENT :
-FILE_ID
-FILE_NAME
-BLOB_CONTENT BLOB
-FILE_TYPE
-FILE_SIZE
the index code :
CREATE INDEX DOCUMENT_IDX ON DOCUMENT
(BLOB_CONTENT)
INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT
PARAMETERS('FILTER ctxsys.auto_filter SYNC (ON COMMIT)');
So the first query works well but the second does not !
1)
SELECT d.file_name
FROM document d
WHERE (contains (d.blob_content, '%' || TEXT_VALUE || '%', 1) > 0)
2)
SELECT d.file_name, score(1) as relevance
FROM document d
WHERE (contains (d.blob_content, '%' || TEXT_VALUE || '%', 1) > 0)
Can anybody help me to solve it?
Regards,
GregoryI have not seen this problem before. Can you post a complete example and also include your release number?

AVG calculation and syntax error while parsing a named query
Hi all,
I've to calcolate the average of polling results for each value column (5 value column in total). I want to use this single row result line for a bar graph.
I created a new named query in the EJB:
@NamedQueries({
@NamedQuery(name = "Polls.findAll", query = "select o from Polls o"),
@NamedQuery(name = "Polls.findAVG", query = "select o AVG(Value1) as Value1, AVG(Value2) as Value2, AVG(Value3) as Value3, AVG(Value4) as Value4, AVG(Value5) as Value5 o from Polls o") // <-- my named query
...I tried it in the sql query tool of Oracle 10g XE and sql syntax is ok, but when I run my javaServiceFacade on JDev I receive this message:
Exception in thread "main" Local Exception Stack:
Exception [EclipseLink-8023] (Eclipse Persistence Services - 1.0.1 (Build 20080905)): org.eclipse.persistence.exceptions.JPQLException
Exception Description: Syntax error parsing the query [Polls.findAVG: select AVG(Value1) as Value1, AVG(Value2) as Value2, AVG(Value3) as Value3, AVG(Value4) as Value4, AVG(Value5) as Value5 o from Polls o].
Internal Exception: org.eclipse.persistence.internal.libraries.antlr.runtime.EarlyExitException
...Where is the syntax error in my named query?
Edited by: Silicio on 22-nov-2008 1.05Thanks Shay, now I think syntax is correct for gain an average for each column:
@NamedQuery(name = "Polls.findAVG", query = "select AVG(o.value1), AVG(o.value2), AVG(o.value3), AVG(o.value4), AVG(o.value5) from Polls o")But still got some trouble to get a bar graph...
If I drag&drop that query from data control, I get an empty graph with 5 values ,look http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/8710/emptygraphag7.png .
In the log there is some errors (due that named query and its methods in EJB):

Syntax error while writing a select query.
Hi all,
I have a requirement where I have to pick a value if the text for that value is
MYCARu2019S Lovliest Car.
And so I wrote a query that
SELECT RUECK INTO XRUECK FROM AFVC WHERE ltxa1 = ' MYCARu2019S Lovliest Car'.
ENDSELECT.
But it gives me a syntax error saying
u201CLiterals taking up more than one line not permittedu201D.
Can some one tell me what is wrong. I need to select RUECK value from AFVC table if
ltxa1 value is ' MYCARu2019S Lovliest Car'.
Kindly help what is going wrong...
Regards,
Jessica SamHi,
Narendran is right use two single quotes.
also careful wile comparing string. i think as you write ltxa1 value is ' MYCARu2019S Lovliest Car'.
so while comparing you must not use space just before staring use the following
SELECT rueck INTO xrueck FROM afvc WHERE ltxa1 = 'MYCAR''S Lovliest Car'. " Not use Space before M
ENDSELECT.
Hope will help you.

Can not use SUM in a simple query because of a syntax error?
Hi
Thank you for reading my post.
I am trying to execute the following query:
q = em.createQuery("SELECT SUM((NE.pipeLength - 0.6)+((NE.networkDepth-NE.initialDepth)*0.41)+ NE.standLenght) FROM NExpansion NE where (( NE.contract.contractor=:contractor) AND (NE.pDiameter=:diameter))");
q.setParameter("contractor", contractor);
q.setParameter("diameter", diameter);
l = (Long) q.getSingleResult();And I get the following error:

Thanks.Hello,
From the grammar in the JPA spec, SUM only takes a state_field_path_expression which is defined as
state_field_path_expression := {identification_variable | single_valued_association_path_expression}.state_field
Please feel free to file an enhancement to have this expanded upon.

MS SQL - Syntax error for valid query
I have a problem with the second query in this code (gives me
a syntax error in my HAVING line)
<cfquery name="getDupes" datasource="#application.ODBC1#"
dbtype="ODBC" username="#application.userNameODBC1#"
password="#application.userPassODBC1#">
SELECT *
FROM view_FormCount
WHERE formCount >= 2
ORDER BY formNum
</cfquery>
<cfset variables.lstForms = "">
<cfoutput query="getDupes">
<cfset variables.lstForms=
listAppend(variables.lstForms,"'#getDupes.formNum#'")>
</cfoutput>
<cfset variables.whereClause = "(formNum =
#ReplaceNoCase(variables.lstForms,',',' OR formNum =
','ALL')#)">
<cfquery name="getDetails"
datasource="#application.ODBC1#" dbtype="ODBC"
username="#application.userNameODBC1#"
password="#application.userPassODBC1#">
SELECT tblForms.formNum, tblForms.formName,
tblForms.formCustNum, tblCompanies.companyAbbr
FROM tblForms INNER JOIN tblCompanies ON tblForms.formCustNum
= tblCompanies.companyNum
GROUP BY tblForms.formNum, tblForms.formName,
tblForms.formCustNum, tblCompanies.companyAbbr
HAVING #variables.whereClause#
ORDER BY tblForms.formNum, tblForms.formCustNum
</cfquery>
Now, the really odd thing is if I just take the query text
out of the CFQUERY tags and use CFOUTPUT instead (to see in my
browser what query is getting executed) I get a query that I can
paste into Enterprise Mgr and runs fine.
I can even paste the resulting text into my code in a CFQUERY
and CF will run it fine.
In other words, the dynamic version query gives me an error,
but if I just output the SQL statement, copy-and-paste that into
the CFQUERY that's erroring out (replacing what's there) to run as
a static query, it works fine (sample of static query below).
The error I get when I try to do it dynamically is "Error

Driver][SQLServer]Line 4: Incorrect syntax near '10169318'. The
error occurred on line 21." which is where the HAVING clause
starts.

As I said the default behavior is to escape the quotes in
your variables
as data. So the default output of your SQL statement, before
preserveSingleQuotes() would be like this.
HAVING formNum = ''12345'' OR formNum = ''54321''
As you can see that is not the desired results in your case.
In your
case you have the proper number of single quotes in your
string and you
do not want any added. You want to preserve them so to say.
Thus
adding preserveSingleQuotes() around your whereClase
variable, i.e.
preserveSingleQuotes(whereClause) says do not add any quotes,
keep them
all single. -
I have a flash form that is used to inserts a record into an
Access database table. In the for there are 4 datefields, several
text input fields, and several select fields. When I submit the
form, I get a syntax error that reads:

Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement.
The error occurred on line 184. Complex object types cannot
be converted to simple values.
Line 184 is the last line of the Values in the insert query.
The query looks like this:
<CFQUERY DATASOURCE="#REQUEST.DataSource#">

Any recomendations?Date/Time in Access provide some pretty strage hurdles. In
many occassions I have simply changed the field to a Text field and
ran with that and never seemed to have problems with the result. I
didn't like doing it but I never received errors. I have been
receiving some parameter errors with <cfqueryparam> like the
database doesn't recognized the preceding declared field in the
update or insert query. Here is an example of a wierd error with
Access. I have 2 tables. One is for estimate numbers and the other
is for sub estimate numbers that can be assigned to specific
estimate numbers. If is actually a complicated explanation about
what is taking place behind the doors on this. The concept is
simple on the surface. Both tables have the same fields except the
subestimate table has 1 extra for a user defined subestimate
number. The only relation between the two will be the estimate
number. This insert works fine.

IF I get rid of the cfqueryparam fields it works. If I simply
remove the param, I get a Syntax error. Needless to say I commented
