Drop-down menu influenced by another menu

I want to have two drop-down menus on my website's homepage.
Users select a State (Alabama, Alaska, etc.) from one menu, which
then automatically determines what's in the next menu--cities
within that state. Cities will be supplied using a MySQL table on
the server.
So...how do I do it???

That's why I asked how familiar you are with XML and Spry.
The Framework
that you have downloaded contains all the documentation
(double-click
Readme.html in the top-level folder). You can access the
example I
showed you online by loading samples/index.html, and clicking
the Data
Set Master/Detail link on the Spry Data and Dynamic Region
tab.
You can set up the first data set (for the states) in
Dreamweaver CS3 by
clicking the Spry Data Set button on the Spry Insert bar, and
navigating
to states.xml. Click Get schema, and select state as the Row
element.
Set up the second data set (for the cities) by choosing one
of the
individual states, and selecting city as the Row element.
That will
attach the correct JavaScript files to your page, as well as
creating
the basic Spry data sets. You then need to start digging in
the code to
amend it, changing the name of the XML file that you chose
for the
second data set to {dsStates::url}, and adding the Spry
regions in the
body of the page.
Spry results in very little markup, but understanding how
that markup
works involves a lot more work. The Spry documentation is
very
extensive, and requires careful study. (I've barely begun to
scratch the
surface of it myself.) You can also get help in the dedicated
Spry
forum, where several members of the Spry development team are
actively
involved in helping solve problems:

    Firefox 4: the drop down menus in the top menu bar will not appear in Google pages. For example, when I click "more" it is like clicking a dead link. Nothing happens. When I click the "tools" icon or my email address to log out, same thing.

    Could you do the following please.
    In the location bar at the top, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter
    In the filter at the top, copy/paste the following setting:
    '''browser.urlbar.maxRichResults'''
    If the figure on the right is a single number, or a minus figure i.e. '''-1''', right click it, choose '''Modify''', remove the current setting and replace it with the figure "'''12'''".
    Then close Firefox and restart it again.
    I went to Google Maps, but as you can see from the screenshot, directions appear to be working.
    You could also try creating a new Profile. See [[Managing profiles]]

  • Using a different background for the drop down options in a spry menu bar

    winabe23, you joined this month—probably because you were having trouble with CSS and HTML and you have certainly come to the right place.
    I'm going to send you to several places I have found helpful in understanding how you can make drop-down menus in CSS without the need for JavaScript—though JS may be necessary for certain older browsers that do not understand pseudo classes and may be necessary for the blind or keyboard navigation.
    CSS Wizardry has a great tutorial here.
    Line25 has one here.
    For those who don't want to have to wrangle code, here is a menu generator from PureCSSMenu.
    Here's a page by Eric Meyer who describes how the concept works.
    And here is a video tutorial by "zorro30mum." It's in two parts, but there is a link to Part 2 below Part 1.
    The reason why I am posting all of these links in my answer is because you're using Spry. And Spry has been found wanting by Adobe and they are deprecating and abandoning it.
    The Spry framework is an open source Ajax framework that Adobe developed. Ajax stands for Asynchronous JavaScript And XML. On August 29th 2012, Adobe handed over Spry to github. If you want to help github develop Spry, there is a site for that, but I'm thinking you're not a JavaScript developer.
    I would recommend you pay a little more attention and time to Ajax, which is not deprecated and not discontinued. It allows you to do client-side triggers for server-side code. But that's if you want to do work in JavaScript, XML and a server-side language, like Cold Fusion, php or ASP.
    But in the meantime, the tutorials above will get you into understanding how this whole menuing stuff is done in CSS and give you the understanding necessary to do simple stuff, like changing the color of a background for a drop-down.
    I hope this helps you make great websites!

  • Form Guide - Populating a drop down with entries from another field(s)

    Greetings all!
    Here is what I am trying to accomplish:
    1. Build a repeating panel that has a field for the entry of a Name. (I can do this)
    2. Build a drop down field on another panel that will be populated with the Name entries from one or more of the repeating panel Name fields in 1. above. I would like this to happen while the user is in the same render of the form guide.
    3. Setup:
         LC ES2
         Workbench 9.5
         Would utilize Workspace to complete the form guide
         Want to use a .fml data model
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Rick Kuhlmann

    pguerett,
    Many thanks for that lca. I have been able to move forward with development of a POC Form Guide.
    However, I have one other issue that if solved will push my POC to the point of demo status for the business.
    Here it is:
    The business needs to be able to add the names of children to a Children Info panel on the form guide. - No problems with that.
    Then they need to be able to go to another panel in the form guide and select a child name from a drop down to associate that child with the name of a father. - The previous post with the lca solved that.
    Now what I need to do is to be able to take the selected child in the father panel and place that value into the data model.
    Why? because the final part of this form guide is to populate a pdf form that is really a legal petition to the court. The child(ren) names form the Children Info panel are listed at the beginning of the petition. Then the selected child in the father panel is displayed in the father section.
    So what I am looking to do is to populate that selected child in the father panel to a property in the data model.
    However, based on the lca you sent it does not seem that when I add a Data Object to the Data Model in the Guide Builder that I am not able to push that data back into the original Data Model. I thought that using a Binding might work but I have struck out so far.
    Clear as mud? Any help you or anyone else can provide would be wonderful.
    Thanks a ton!
    Rick Kuhlmann

  • A simple process I just don't know - how to make one drop down list dependent on another.

    Drop-Down List One has 17 office names. Drop-Down List Two has sub-office names associated with each of the 17 main offices.  If user selects Office 3 from Drop Down List One, only sub-offices associated with Office 3 should appear as choices in Drop-Down List Two.  How do I do that?

    You have asked your question in the Adobe Reader user forum.
    You cannot do what you want with Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader is a PDF viewer - no more, no less.
    You need Acrobat.

  • Trouble with iWeb code snippet for drop down menu

    Hello,
    So, I'm having a bit of trouble figuring this out and it goes beyond my knowledge, to be honest. I'm working on a website for someone and when viewed in Safari for Mac or iPad or even iPhone, it all works out great. But, when viewed in any other browser for Mac or Windows, the drop down doesn't display the "menu heading," only what should be the first drop down selection. Not only that, that page now becomes "unselectable" and more or less dead.
    Here is what it should read, and does on Safari:
    Rates and Hours
    FAQ - Yoga
    FAQ - Reiki
    FAQ - Massage
    On all other browsers, it displays the FAQ - Yoga option as the "title" and only displays the other two options. So, is this something that can be fixed in the code snippet or is what I'm seeing a more involved HTML issue that would require actual skills to fix? Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated because I'd love to get this knocked out and also pick something up in addition. If I have to edit the actual HTML pages themselves I could do that as well; I've got an editor and have done that for my own site when needed. Anyway, thank you very much in advance!

    The <select> item was missing. And if you don't want the first line in the menu (Rates, Hours, Reservations) then don't enter it in the first place.
    BTW, it's not a dropdown menu. It's a selection list in a form.

  • Using version 4.0.1 and cant find option 'Organize Bookmarks' on the drop-down menu for bookmarks.

    I'm using version 4.0.1 and can't find the option to 'Organize Bookmarks' on the drop-down list from the Bookmarks Menu.
    I need this option to add my bookmarks to the Gemsta webpage.

    "Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks" has been renamed to "Show All Bookmarks" in Firefox 4.

  • In navigation bar the drop down menu is not holding open when trying to select item - ONLY in Firefox.

    When trying to select item from any drop down in navigation bar the menu shrinks. I seem to not be able to navigate further than 1st item on the drop down list.
    However, it seems to be working in other browsers but not in Firefox.
    The website affected by this behavior is in the following link: http://www.coubroughandco.com
    I am wondering what could possibly be the cause of it.

    Hello,
    I get the same issue. To make sure we are talking about the same thing I have uploaded a screenshot. See below.
    When I hover over 'Buying' the menu pops up. I then move my mouse down over 'Your Budget' nothing happens. I then move the mouse down again over 'Leasehold or Freehold?' the menu disappears. It is not possible to click on the 'Leasehold or Freehold?' link.
    I don't believe Firefox is at fault here. I think the website has not been properly tested to work with Firefox. I am not an expert in web design but other forum contributors here will be able to identify the piece of code in the site that is causing the problem.
    I think the best thing you can do is to make contact with the business to let them know that their website navigation doesn't work for Firefox users.
    I hope that helps.

  • How do I make a drop down list of text in numbers as it is made in the example spreadsheet for comparing cars for buying where you can choose a value from a dropdown list for each car?

    how do I make a drop down list of text in numbers as it is made in the example spreadsheet for comparing cars for buying where you can choose a value from a dropdown list for each car?

    Where is this example spreadsheet? Without seeing it I can only guess at what you are asking.
    To make a drop-down list (a pop-up menu in Numbers-speak), format the cell as a pop-up then edit and add to the list of items.
    If the example spreadsheet is pulling in a dollar value based on what car you chose in the pop-up, it is probably using LOOKUP or one of the other lookup functions, getting the information from another table (a lookup table). If, instead, these dollar values are what you are choosing in the pop-up, then you need to create a pop-up with these values in it.
    The Help menu includes a link to a page where you can download the Numbers Users Manual. It also has a link to the Formulas and Functions guide. Both are useful to new users.

  • How do I configure Firefox so that when I open the bookmarks drop-down list, the previous bookmark that I clicked in the same session is high-lighted - especially if it's located in a sub-folder (just like IE)?

    I wish to replicate the behavior of IE (heresy - I know!) when opening the drop-down Bookmarks (i.e., Favorites) menu so that I don't have to repeatedly "drill-down" into one or more subfolders in order to select the same bookmark as before or to select any of the other (saved) ones in the same subfolder.
    I always wanted to know if this was possible since I happily began using FF several years ago, but never found the time to ask until now.
    Currently using FF4 on WinXP Pro SP3 occasionally along w/ IE8 and its wonderful "Save Target As ..." right-click option.

    I figgered it out. The resolution of the screen was set at 600x800, so the bookmarks dropdown menu took up more space than usual. The pop out folder contents didn't have enough room to pop out. With a resolution for a slightly smaller display the drop down bookmarks menu functions perfectly.

  • Populate drop-down list in table row or repeating subform

    I am currently working on an Adobe Interactive Form integrated with web dynpro ABAP.  I would like to create a table or repeating subform with a number of drop-down lists populated from SAP.
    I am using the Enumerated Drop-down list from the WebDynproNative menu.  In my WDDOINIT method, I am populating the attributes using the set_attribute_value_set method.  This is working fine when my dropdown is not in a table or repeating subform.  The dropdown is populated and the selected value is returned to SAP when submitting the form.  However, when I place the dropdown in a table row or a repeating subform, the dropdown is not populated.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Hi There,
    I am facing problem in Dropdown lists in Subforms.
    I want the region dropdown list values according to country (only for DE) dropdown list value. Both Dropdown lists are in a Subform.
    For that, I have used this in EXIT event of Country Dropdown list:
    if (this.rawValue == "DE Deutschland")
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.clearItems();
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Schleswig-Holstein","1");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Hamburg","2");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Niedersachsen","3);
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Bremen","4");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Nordrhein-Westfalen","5");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Hessen","6");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Rheinland-Pfalz","7");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Baden-Württemberg","8");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Bayern","9");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Saarland","10");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Berlin","11");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Brandenburg","12");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Mecklenburg-Vorpomme","13");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Sachsen","14");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Sachsen-Anhalt","15");
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.addItem("Thüringen","16");
    else
    data.Item.IT_ITEM.DATA.ZZ_REGION.clearItems();
    It does only change first region dropdownlist value, not others because both dropdown lists are in a Subform.
    Other problem is that it works only when All Country Dropdown lists are "DE". Means, first region dropdown list depends upon not only first country dropdown but also other dropdown.
    My requirement is, If first country Dropdown is "DE", only first Region Dropdown list should be fill, not others. And so on.
    Please provide solution that How can I change all dropdown lists of a Subform dynamically?
    Waiting for reply.
    Thank you

  • If I have multiple tabs, the history is not for each tab, so if I drop down it shows history from other windows too, possibly eliminating all history for the current window. How do I get each tab separate?

    The drop down list when the History menu option is clicked, has only provided history information for the tab currently being used. (You could go to all history of course and it was cumulative). It is now showing cumulative history for all tabs including for other Firefox windows if I have more than one copy running.
    Is there an option to separate the histories for each tab again?
    I do not know if this is because of Windows 7. This computer is new as my previous one was stolen and they no longer sell XP versions or Vista versions.

  • Display Title key in drop-down for Business Partners

    Hello Experts,
    the "Title" drop-down list in a cusutomer or contact person does not show the keys (eg 0001, 0002 . etc.). It only shows the description (eg MIster, Mrs, Ms. etc.). I have activated "show keys in all drop-down lists" in my Options menu and other fields display the key such as fields Communication Language or Account Group or so. But just the Title field does not show the key.
    I have checked table TSAD3 and also the coresponding Business Partner customizing in "Maintain address fields" but I cannot find a function to make the key visible in the Title field.
    Does anybody know and can help me?
    The problem is linked to language issue with having parallel Japanese and English where the key will help the users select the correct English title even though it is the same expresssion in Japanese.
    Regards
    Catherine

    Hi,
    I hope the title of the business partner is not of drop down list box with key type.  It could be simply a list box.  Please check with your ABAPer and change the attribute of the field in the table to drop down list box and check again.
    Also plz check the below link.
