And there's this horrible scratch now. What are the internal components most likely to be affected?

No one can answer that intelligently. If you have concerns, take it to an Apple store for testing.

Simply type command 8 again. That toggles the "show paragraphs" function.

How do I get the esc key to work without having to use shift esc?

Just got a new iMac and migrated everything from my old iMac but one thing is not working. I use to be able to use the esc key to back out of full screen mode or deselect items. It only works now if I use shift and esc. I would like to set it so I can just hiy esc and not shift esc.
Any help woul dbe appreciated.

Maybe some third party software interference. Try a guest account or SafeBoot to diagnose.

My HP mini netbook won'tload to the start-up page. I'm using Windows 7. I get the following messgae "Press the Esc key for startup menu" but when I do nothing happens.

Did you follow the steps in the last post? Did anything change? If you cannot get into the BIOS, then it is done. Try a BIOS recovery. Some of the newer computers motherboards have a BIOS recovery but I cannot tell if that is one.

Can I disable the ESC key in camera raw?

When working in Photoshop in general, I've gotten into the habit of using the ESC key to get out of a tool I'm currently using, but when using Camera Raw, this has the consequence of closing the image I've been working on without saving any of the edits I've made. I've tried looking in the keyboard shortcut assignments for it, but no luck. Maybe it's a Windows-wide setting, or a per-application setting that can be set? And yes, I know I can stop hitting the ESC key, but that's not the answer I'm looking for. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

How do i fix my home button it has completely stopped working after i dropped it and now its frozen on the apple screen?

so yesterday i dropped my iphone and the home key stopped working. i had to turn the phone completely off to change screens and get back to the home page. today i turned it off to get back to the home screen and now it is frozen on the apple screen. its been like this for about an hour or so. i plugged it into the computer and it still hasnt done anything. i try to reset it but of course since the home button isnt working it wont allow me to do so.
does anyone know what to do besides taking it to apple?

You can try the steps recommended in the User Guide. If they don't work bring your phone into Apple for evaluation.

HP H8-1260t wont start or boot up...freezes on Press the ESC key for Startup Menu message on screen

after two days, I came back home and noticed my computer was on and saw nothing on screen except a dark bluish-black screen and i tried to get in but looked like it freezes, so I long press the power button and I turn it back on and one thing that was he hp logo and the message at the bottom cnter...Press the ESC for Startup Menu...so i kept pressing the ESC and nothing happens. I removed the battery and hard drive drive and put it back on...but the same screen and message appears. i tried pressing the F11, also F8, F10 but nothing happen. i also removed the USB but nothing happen too...
Please help me how to put it on a booting mode. im stuck on the same message.

What USB are you referring to?
Did this happen after an update or an electrical storm?

How do I remove in the upper left corner the Firefox logo which is followed by text describing the web page. Want to declutter the screen and gain space.

Right above the Menu tool bar, (File,Edit,View, History,etc.), in the upper left hand corner is the Firefox logo followed by text..as I'm typing this, it reads "Ask a Question|Mozilla Support-
Mozilla Firefox". Since I already use the Navigation tool bar, find this information redundant and most important want to regain some real estate on my small screen by removing it if possible. Thanks.

Did you enable Find My Mac on the MBA? Then search for it on your iCloud page https://www.icloud.com . Also contact the Airline - they will have form to fill in.

If you MUST have the real deal, virtualization using VirtualBox instead of Parallels Desktop is free. Just need to pay for the Windows license (which you also need with Parallels).

I get the regular option to select Bootcamp or Mac HD when holding down the alt key but when I select Bootcamp disk and hit enter nothing happens.

The system does not even attempt to boot up windows after selecting Bootcamp and pressing enter, it just shows both disk options on the screen. Powering off and booting into OSX is OK.
I've tried quite a few times already but with the same result.
Win 7 was installed a week ago and up until this morning has fired up without any incident.
Any ideas I can try??

HP DV5 laptop suddenly doesn't boot - Press the esc key for boot sequence

Suddenly my laptop has stopped working. It's on the first boot screen with HP logo and Press esc to get the boot sequence. Pressing esc doesn't take me anywhere.
I tried removing the battery and directly connecting it to the power cord and it's the same
When i try to press F10 as soon as the system gets powered on..i get " F10...BIOS setup options : alond with the hp logo and nothing after that.
I have tried removing the harddrive and plugin it again , But nothing worked. Any help on this is much appreciated.

How can I turn off the autocomplete (the one summoned by Esc key)?

Dear All, please help!
Somehow Escape button started bringing me an autocomplete list in Keynote which is monstrously inconvenient.
I am NOT using tables, I am working with a mere text box. Usually Escape would make me exit the text box, now it offers to insert all the words the Dictionary knows.
It doesn't work this way for Pages, but in the TextEdit it's all the same.

What you are describing is a feature called "word completion", provided by the Cocoa text engine, and hence used by apps which rely on it, including iWork, TextEdit, and others. When you are typing, or the insertion point is in a suitable position, pressing ⎋, or ⌥⎋, or F5 brings up the word completion list. Of course, it only works if there are suitable words in the list. For instance, if you type "Schad", intending to write "Schadenfreude", you can press ⎋ as much as you wish and nothing will come up. I don't know how to turn off this feature, if indeed it can be turned off.

Is there any chance you mis-remember? The Keynote shortcut for exiting text editing and selecting the text box is ⌘↩ (command-return).

T61 lock symbol in the top left corner? No access of anything.

Okay so I had a fan error I took the laptop apart to clean the fan it worked "I think"A lock now appeared in the top left corner With another symbol next to it which looks like a computer but its so small I can't tell so is there anyway to get around this otherwise if there isn't my job is at stake and with this economy I think I just might jump off a bridge after talking with my psychiatrist of course I changed my mine... Any ideas send me ASAP!!! I have no time to watse. so let me tell you what i have tried i have tried holding the esc key after boot up for different boot up choices and and i have tried F8 also i even tried F12... idk why and i have tried the 'Fn" key with the lock symbol on my keybooard to see what that would do i don't know what else to do with only another harddrive, 2 (2gb;1Gb) more ram, and the tools to take apart the laptop. I would be so happy to know i won't have to spend money on this machine cuz i am in the negetives here just barely living... help me or im outta the picture for good as to be honest this laptop is my life and it has everything i need on it to succeed in the near future along with many expensive programs that could make or break me. jeez im hopeless right now this is it i've googled to the point i was gonna pick up this desktop at this library and smash it and walk out like nothing even happened.

Remove keyboard
block fan-propeller with a match or toothpick
blow compressed air through the fan ribs from outside into the notebook.
finally clean the fan gently with a vacuum cleaner while the fan still is blocked with the match/toothpick
If the fan error still comes up, you'll need a new fan/heat sink.

Cq mini shuts down when applying slight pressure to left hand corner, left of the touchpad.

As topic says. When I lift the computer holding the left hand corner approx. 1 inch in from the left corner the computer shuts down. No error messages, it just loses power and reboots. What can it be?

Have subsequently worked out that the problem vanishes when the mains power is available, so it is clearly a problem with either the battery or the connection to the battery. Gamble is wether buying a new battery would work or not I suppose.
Unfortunately he lives in the West Highlands so a computer retailer of any stripe is very difficult
