  • Error while duplicate database from one server to another server

    Hi there,
    I am practicing duplicate database from one single database server to another server. Hardware and driver path on 2 machines is the same. Here are my steps:
    --------------------- Clone site:
    1. modify listener.ora with content:
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost.localdomain)(PORT = 1521))
    ADR_BASE_LISTENER = /u01/app/oracle
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = orcl)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1)
    (SID_NAME= orcl)
    ENABLE_GLOBAL_DYNAMIC_ENDPOINT_LISTENER = ON
    2. stop and start listener again, message show like :
    Service “orcl” has 1 instance(s).
    Instance “orcl”, status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service…
    The command completed successfully
    3. create pfile from spfile.
    4. shutdown and startup nomount with pfile is new pfile create from step 3.
    --------------------------------------- Source site
    1. modify tnsnames.ora with content like:
    VVCOREDB =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost.localdomain)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = vvcoredb)
    ORCL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = 10.254.1.235) (PORT=1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
         (SERVER = DEDICATED)
         (SERVICE_NAME = orcl)
    2. run command from rman like these:
    rman> connect target sys@vvcoredb
    rman> target database Password:
    rman> connect auxiliary sys@orcl
    rman> auxiliary database Password:
    rman> DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE to orcl from active database spfile nofilenamecheck;

  • Rman clone duplicate database from active database

    Hi All,
    I read document saying that rman can duplicate database from active database (prod) to a remote server, so long as you configure listener and tnsname.
    I am working toward it.
    I met a problem, which is when i bring up auxiliary database in nomount mode, the listener service of that auxiliary database is in BLOCKED status, and throw out ora-12528 error when I rman auxiliary sys/pass@clonedb. Isn't nomount mode the mode which auxiliary db is supposed to be in?
    (ora-12528: TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections)
    Thanks,
    milic

    You may have run into the same problem like I did recently:
    The (UR=A) clause in tnsnames.ora is intended to work with a dynamically registered handler so the use of SERVICE_NAME versus SID is preferred.
    ORA-12528: TNS listener BLOCKED - trying to duplicate database
    Also for further problems:
    RMAN 11gR2 duplicate database ORA-17627 ORA-01017 RMAN-03009 ORA-17628

    Does anyone know if it's possible to clone a database from stby by issuing RMAN duplicate database FROM ACTIVE DATABASE command in 11g?
    I know it's possible from primary to create stby.
    Thanks in advance

    We have one production database and one physical standby of the production. Now we have situation where we need to create one database from either production or from standby. As production is loaded we can not do it using active database option. Now we have the only option to copy the database from standby.
    As of now we open the standby and copy it using rman duplicate database and again we put it back to standby mode.
    Is it possible to create standby database from standby database only?
    Oracle version : 11.1.0.7.0
    I have seen procedure allowing to do the same in version 11.2.0.3. I have tried searching for the difference but didn't find when this feature was introduced.
    Thanks,
    Ketul Patel

    Hello;
    Active duplicate should work when connected to Standby as source Database. However there's a bug 11715084 which is not fixed until version 11.2.0.4.
    If patch 11715084 is available for your version it may work, but all the 11.1.0 are gone so I have no way to test.

  • Duplicate Database and RMAN-20208

    I'm trying to duplicate an old backup into an auxiliary database. Both the backup and auxiliary are 10g. When I run the following in RMAN:
    run {
         set until scn 41429334;
         duplicate target database to aux;
    }I get this error:

Is there a way I can get around this issue in the duplicate command. I'd really like to avoid copying over the existing environment as it's currently under heavy use. Any suggestions, links, answers would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    John

    No, I believe you will get the same error. The cause of the problem is that a RESETLOGS operation was performed after the backup was created so the control file isn't aware of any pre-RESETLOGS operations. Even if you use a Recovery Catalog DB, you'll still get this error.

I would appreciate if someone can throw any light on what dumb mistakeI am doing here. I ahve absolutely no control over the back up script which is done by my vendor, but can do anything in the reocvery portion. I did try going through the documentaiton and other help available for the last 2 days.
    Database : Oracle 10G R2
    OS : Windows Server 2003
    My backup script is
    configure channel device type disk format 'J:\RMAN\RMAN_df_%U' maxpiecesize 2048M;
    SQL "ALTER SYSTEM SWITCH LOGFILE";
    SQL "ALTER SYSTEM SWITCH LOGFILE";
    backup database;
    SQL "ALTER SYSTEM SWITCH LOGFILE";
    SQL "ALTER SYSTEM SWITCH LOGFILE";
    backup current controlfile for standby FORMAT='J:\RMAN\RMAN_sc_%U';
    For recovery of a standby database,
    I have copied the the back up pieces and the archive logs to the standby server where I have just created an instance with the same name as production db.
    set ORACLE_SID=NGINPROD
    set dbid 820336652
    STARTUP NOMOUNT
    RESTORE STANDBY CONTROLFILE FROM 'I:\TEMP\RMAN_Backup\RMAN\RMAN_SC_2UMIUJM1_1_1';
    CATALOG BACKUPPIECE 'I:\TEMP\RMAN_Backup\RMAN\RMAN_DF_2RMIUIE4_1_1',
    'I:\TEMP\RMAN_Backup\RMAN\RMAN_DF_2RMIUIE4_2_1',

    'I:\TEMP\RMAN_Backup\RMAN\RMAN_SC_2UMIUJM1_1_1';
    RESTORE DATABASE;
    Till this step I do not encounter any issues, but when i try to recover the database I am hit with the below error.

    I don't see ArchiveLog backups being done by the vendor's script. How do you backup the ArchiveLogs ?
    In your post you state that you have copied the ArchiveLogs. Are they copied to the same log_archive_dest location ? RMAN needs to be "aware" of them. You can use the "CATALOG" command in RMAN to register them into the controlfile.

    A Standby Database uses a Standby Controlfile which is created from the Primary (with the "ALTER DATABASE CREATE STANDBY CONTROLFILE AS 'locaion';" command) and then copied over to the Standby server.

  • Duplicate Database From  ASM to ASM

    Hi Guys
    I am running Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 with RAC on HP-UX using ASM. I have two nodes on cluster now I have a new cluster environment with three nodes using ASM as well.
    I want to duplicate my databases from two nodes to three nodes using my backups. I am using rman backups.
    How do I begin to do that?
    Please help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks

    Which, as far as I recall, wouldn't make any difference.
    Your 'target' is the auxiliary database, which is pointed to by a tns service name.
    Provided the backup is accessible on both servers (maybe by using NFS), duplicate database should like a charm.
    But then I am already abstracting docs, which is evidently exactly what you want.

  • Unable to restore and recover my Database from RMAN Backup

    Dear All,
    Iam practicing RMAN in Windows environment.
    My configurations are
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 1; # default
    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON; # default
    CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK; # default
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON; # default
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 'F:\Backup\%F'; # default
    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP TYPE TO BACKUPSET; # default
    CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
    CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED; # default
    CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION FOR DATABASE OFF; # default
    CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM 'AES128'; # default
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO 'E:\ORACLE\DATABASE\SNCFORCL.ORA';
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT 'F:\Backup\%U.bak';
    Then i took the RMAN backup, now iam shutdown my DB and removed one logfile..
    then i tried to startup the DB but it is saying
    ORA-00313: open failed for members of log group 3 of thread 1
    ORA-00312: online log 3 thread 1: 'E:\ORADATA\ORCL\REDO03.LOG'
    So i tried to restore the Database with my rman backup
    RMAN> restore database;
    But i am unable to restore my logfile in the Datafiles location where as all other datafiles are restored but redo logfiles are not restored.
    So, i am unable to recover my DB
    Please tell me whether i am doing any mistake, what is the solution for my problem.
    Thanks in advance
    Mahi

    All you restored was your datafiles.
    Now issue recover database and that will apply the archive logs.
    This is in the oracle documentation.
    "You must restore backups of these archived logs for recovery to proceed. You can restore either to the default or nondefault location. If you do not have backups, then you must performing incomplete recovery up to an SCN before the first missing redo log and open RESETLOGS."
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/osrecvry.htm
    In this case after issuing restore database in RMAN, then issue this.
    "Recover database"
    It will then be an incomplete recovery. They should have been multiplexed. Did you restore your controlfile with this backup? You may have to issue an "Alter database open resetlogs;"

  • Failing by duplicate database from active database

    Hallo,
    i'm working with 11g on one server and want to duplicate a database in active mode.
    what i do:
    i create a new password-file using orapwd - orapwNEW
    i create a new entry for ORANEW in tnsnames.ora and listener.ora
    then i execute rman TARGET sys/xxx@old AUXILIARY sys/xxx@NEW
    then rman> DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO NEW FROM ACTIVE DATABASE SPFILE NOFILENAMECHECK;
    then i've got the failure RMAN-06403, RMAN-04006, ORA-01034
    whats the problem?
    thanks in advance.

    i think it is the problem that rman can't connect to the auxiliary db.
    but what i must do?
    in the documentation i found that:
    The PASSWORD FILE option specifies that RMAN should copy the password file to the destination host. RMAN automatically copies the server parameter file to the destination host, starts the auxiliary instance with the server parameter file, copies all necessary database files and archived redo logs over the network to the destination host, and recovers the database. Finally, RMAN opens the database with the RESETLOGS option to create the online redo log.
