Duplicate table in physical Layer

Hi,
I've created a duplicate table in physical layer , When i check view data on duplicate, getting an error. (Table or view doesn't exist). How to get out of it.
Regards,
Sri

When you duplicate a table, you create a new physical table with a new name. If this table is involved in a query, the SQL FROM clause will list this table. If the table does not exist in the database, then an error will occur.
Creating an alias creates a copy of the table in metadata that will be referenced in SQL with a new alias name. The alias name in SQL will be derived from the ID given to the alias in the metadata.
The important point is that you are not creating an object in the metadata that requires you to create a new object in the physical database. If you duplicate a table in metadata, then that new table must map to a separate table in the physical database. If it doesn't exist, you will need to create it or you will get a SQL error

  • Alias Tables and Duplicate tables in Physical Layer

    Hi all,
I have a small doubt in physical layer. We have two options when we right click table, 'Alias' and 'Duplicate'. To create another instance of a table, can we use any one of these. Does it make any difference
    Thanks & Regards,
    Jagi

    Hi,
If u duplicate any table the join conditions will carry with respective tables , same name appending (TableName#1)
In case of alias u need to specify joins conditions explicitly
We can use same table with different constrains to the same table
Aliases used, if you need to replicate a physical table and not create multiple tables with the same data
If you delete any column in the Original table automatically deleted in alias
table and Its not reflected in Duplicate table.
    Steps:
Right Click the original table. Choose New Object and choose Alias.
The mistake most people make is try to bring in the same table again and rename it or choose Duplicate by right clicking the original table.

  • Probelm Addind new Table in Physical Layer, Create Dim in Business Model ..

I have completed a task for a dash board, that is running sucessfully.
Now I added a new table in "physical layer", (file->import->from database), table added successfully
Now, I droped this table in "business model", but when I want to create its dimension, there is no any option (when I right click on this table)
    there are two cases
    case 1:
I did not added modified fact table (with foreign key of new table) in "physical layer" and not in "business model and mapping"
    case 2:
I added new table and modified "fact table (with foreign key of new table)" in "physical layer" and "business model and mapping"
but in both cases there is no "create dimension" button to create dimension
Please let me know the how to solve this problem, kindly define it in steps
    thanks

    Hi thr,
Create Dimensions is only available if the selected logical table is a dimension table (defined by 1:N logical joins) and no dimension has been associated with this table.
In you case, once you have imported the table successfully in physical layer, then join your table to fact table. Drag n drop in BMM under a new logical table and then join it to BMM Logical fact using complex join. Now, if you right click, you see the last option as 'Create Dimension'
    Hope you find it useful..

  • How to add a stand alone table from Physical layer to Business Model

    Hi,
I have tables from 2 different database sources in my Physical Layer.
My Business model currently uses only tables from one database. from my second database in teh physical layer I need only one table and that will be a stand alone table, to my Presentation layer.
    1. Does it have to go through my Business layer or can it be directly added to the Presentation layer. What are the steps?
    2. Can I restrict the permissions on that stand alone table only to the administrator?
    Thank you.

1)create a view with single column using the sql (select 1 from dual) in physical layer and join it with the table using complex join in physical layer (1=1).
Move that to BMM, set the column as key in both physical and bmm layer.
    2) You can restrict the access for the table presentation layer
Double click the presentation layer table -> Permission -> there you can restrict the access by user or group
    Thanks,
    Vino

  • How to Move from CSV to Table in Physical layer in Best possible way

We had a project which had the source (physical Layer) as CSV. Now there are moving from CSV to a Table in the Database.
Can anyone guide through the best possible way to complete the task
    With Regards!
    Steve

Create a new Database node in the Physical layer with connection pool, create a schema folder and drag your CSV object into the new database - All your BMM mappings and hence Presentation objects will move over seamlessly.
Might be an idea to simply reverse engineer / import any object from your database to initially create your database connection / tree then simply drag the CSV into it.
    Hope this helps,

  • How to define join in physical layer between cube and relational table

    Hi
I have a aggregated data in essbase cube. I want to supplement the information in the cube with data from relational source.
I read article http://community.altiusconsulting.com/blogs/altiustechblog/archive/2008/10/24/are-essbase-and-oracle-bi-enterprise-edition-obiee-a-match-made-in-heaven.aspx which describes how to do it.
From this article I gather that I have to define a complex join between the cube imported from essbase to my relational table in physical layer.
But when I use Join Manager I am only able to define jooin between tables from relation source but not with the imported cube.
In My case I am trying to join risk dimension in the cube based on risk_type_code (Gen3 member) with risk_type_code in relation table dt_risk_type.
How can I create this join?
    Regards
    Dhwaj

    Hi
This has worked the BI server has joined the member from the oracle database to cube. So Now for risk type id defined in the cube I can view the risk type code and risk type name from the relational db.
But now if I want to find aggregated risk amount against a risk type id it brings back nothing. If I remove the join in the logical model then I get correct values. Is there a way by which I can combine phsical cube with relational model and still get the aggregated values in the cube?
I have changed the column risk amount to be sum in place of aggr_external both in logical and phsical model.

  • How to reimport relational table objects into RPD physical layer...

I am new to OBIEE. I am not sure how to reimport relational database tables into physical layer whenever the base database table structure changes.
How do I configure the ODBC or OCI 10G/11G connections on my computer so I can reimport objects into RPD on remote server.
I would appreciate it if you can give step by step instructions
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello -
You can re-import a table to the Physical Layer the exact same way that you would import the table for the first time:
    1) Click File > Import > From Database...
    2) Select your data source connections
    3) Choose your table you wish to reimport
The system will warn you that you will overwrite the existing table and may lose information. The information you would lose is any discrepencies in the physical layer that are no longer existing in the actual database table. However, logical columns will NOT be overwritten.
Alternately, if it is a minor change to the table (say a column name change, or one additional column added), you can also manually add the column
    1) Right Click on the already imported table in the presentation layer and select New Object > Physical Column...
    2) Name the column and provide the proper data type
The column now exists in the physical layer and will be properly associated with the new column in the database, assuming the same column name was attributed. You WILL have to drag this new column forward to the logical layer and presentation layer, as this will not be automatically done.
I hope this answers your question. If you found this helpful, please assign points!

  • "Failed to perform requested action" error while importing table in P.Layer

    HI
I have encountered an error while importing the table into physical layer of the repository. When I select the table and click the 'move the selected' button it is throwing this error "Failed to perform requested action". I didn't understand what does it mean, even it is not giving any error code but when I try to import other tables it is working fine. Please help me to solve this if someone has any idea. Thanks.

    Hi Srinivas,
I think you want to do JDBC lookup.. you must have created the JDBC receiver communication channel. As your communication channel is correct and still you are getting Table not found error.. Check following steps.
    - Check that your Communication channel is activated and working fine.
    - Check that the ID which you are using in JDBC receiver is having proper authorization to import the table definition.
      Just check with all authorization.
I think the problem is with insufficient authorization to User ID used on JDBC communication channel.
    Thanks,
    Bhupesh.

  • Read data using 2 diff connection pool for same DB folder in physical layer

    Hi All,
i am using two connection pool which have different dsn connection information (both are directed to different database name or database server)..
so if i view the data of any table, a prompt will come asking for the connection pool, so how do i automize it....?
how do i set the different connection pool for different tables?
please let me know if u need further informtaion to understand my problem..
    thnx...

    thnx Stijn..
    yupe that i know...
actually i have total of around 300 tables in physical layer (in both the schemas..) , around 12 fact and 100 dimension tables in bmm and same in the presentation layer...
so i think u can guess how many joins and other stuff, i have made in my bmm layer..
if now i will start modifying all this it will take lot of time...
i am just wondering that there is no alternative for this...
as when i check my data from the physical layer then a prompt ask for the connection pool (i have already made two connection pool..) so there could be some alternative way to automize the default connection pool setting for the tables/schemas folders in case if more than one connection pool exits under the same database in the physical layer...
    isn't it?
    thnx again..

    Hi,
I'm confused about the last bit, you did a database import to get the tables into the RPD, which worked, but now they are not showing in the phsyical layer of the rpd? They should be there under a database with the name of the ODBC/OCI that you used when you imported them.
If they are not there then this would make me think that the import of the tables has not worked, try importing just one and see what happens.

  • Do we need to give new joins in physical layer

    hi all,
due to some back ground problem ,we have deleted the existing table in back end and again we have created the table having different columns names with same table name
let say ,i have deleted table A and it is having columns (no int ,name varchar,...) in the back end... again i have created table A and different columns name(sno number, sname varchar)...
like this i have created .. and whatever the content is there in old table same data i copied in to new table.
so... here my question is do we need to again import that table into physical layer and again we need to give joins... or can we make use of existing table ....???
now i am running the reports with old table .. reports are not coming up... its giving an error....
is it mandatory to import the table again .. and again i have to do all joins..
i did few calculations using that dimension ...... so... any other alternative solution for this ... instead of doing joins.. ..
i have changed the column names in back end... that's it
here can we make use of catalog manager to change the column name in the reporting side....after changing the columns name in physical layer..
i don't knw the process of catalog manager.... please can any one send me the link to change the column names in the reporting side .....using catalog manager
    Thanks

    Hi,
If you have deleted table in database and you have created a new table with same columns and same structure then you should not face any problem. OBIEE will still have that table intact in physical layer. In your case since you have changed the names of columns in database it is creating problems for you because OBIEE query will use names mentioned in physical layer and those columns are no more in database. SO to resolve the issue go to physical layer and change the names of the columns .That should solve the problem.

    i have installed obiee..
there am trying to give physical joins .... there am facing problem that i could not able to move the tables

are you opening a physical diagram to create joins? You mean drag and drop does not work while rearranging a table in physical layer?

  • Star schema in Physical Layer

Recently, i came across a question from one of colleague. The discussion went as follows:
He asked me what is star schema and where can you define it? Physical layer or BMM layer?
I explained about star schema and answered his rest of the doubt that, we define it in BMM layer.
His immediate question is why can't we define it in Physical layer? Since BMM layer allows to build dimensional models, so, we have to build it in that layer itself is my reply. But, later in the evening, when i started thinking on my way to home, i started thinking about his doubt.
Here, what am curious to know is since we can join tables in Physical layer too, why can't we define star in Physical layer? and why only in BMM? and what are the difference in the Joins that we made in Physical layer to that of BMM layer?
I tired getting answers for these in documents and in some other online resources, but, am not succeed. So, am approaching this forum in anticipation. Can anyof you help us understanding these concepts better.

In OBIEE Server Administration Guide it is written for logical fk join:
Logical foreign key joins might be needed if the Oracle BI Server is to be used as an ODBC data
source for certain third-party query and reporting tools. Typically, you should not create logical
foreign keys. This capability is in the Administration Tool to provide compatibility with previous
    releases.
    And logical complex join:
The use of logical complex joins is recommended over logical key and foreign key joins.
    And physical complex join:
In the physical layer of the repository, complex joins are joins over nonforeign key and primary key
columns. When you create a complex join in the physical layer, you can specify expressions and the
specific columns on which to create the join. When you create a complex join in the business model
layer, you do not specify expressions.
I agree, that always are some special cases, but in general it should be clear when to use which joins.
So, you should read chapters 4,5 one more time this administration guide [OBIEE server administration guide|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/b31770.pdf]

  • Duplicate table  and  Alias table in the physical layer

    Hi,
I want a clear information regarding the duplicate tables in the physical layer of the rpd.
I mean what is the purpose of the duplicate tables in the physical layer.........
    thanks,
    chinna.

what do you mean by duplicate of physical table? is it Alias table?
    if then,
-> aliases are created to break the circular joins (which are not supported by obiee)
-> and, as per apps standards no operation can be done on base tables which are imported directly to physical layer. Only aliases are joined and will be used in BMM layer
-> useful to re-use the table more than one time , best example: W_DAY_D in apps rpd
