Duplicates in iCal

I have Outlook 2011 that I use as my primary calendar and contacts manager. Because I am on a Mac, syncing HAS to be with iCal. In turn, iCal syncs with the iPhone calendar app.
Within my original (Outlook) calendar, I have several reccuring events.
You guessed it : after a while, these recurring events duplicate & multiply and take up a lot of space in all calendars. Is there a way to :
- remove these duplicates;
- fix it so that these are kept to a minimum in the futur.
Also, if there is a way to sync Outlook directly with the iPhone, please inform me.

Maybe this will work.

  • Google duplicates in iCal

I see many references to this problem, which also seems to be associated with iCloud, but many references to these symptoms go back to 2007 and are not relevant to OS X Lion.  At the Google Calendar help forum I see indications that Apple & Google are aware and working on a remedy.  My own problem is about sync'ing with 2 Google calendars, and while both exhibit the problem to some degree, one creates mores duplicates more often than the other.  And, one of them also has the nasty habit of creating duplicates of duplicates, which is pretty annoying
In iCal preferences, I just deleted both and then re-created them.  They both appear to be behaving now -- I'll let you know otherwise.  If anyone has found a permanent fix, or know why this happens, please enlighten the masses ...
    TIA

    Have a look at THIS.

  • I had duplicates in ical and address book. i got all deleted, but now when i import ical that was backed up, it goes away in a few seconds. my address book still has duplicates.

I have a mobileMe account. I had duplicates in my address book and ical. I got all deleted and tried to import info back. Now my mac will import ical saved file in .icbu for only a few seconds and my address book still has duplicates.

Not sure why, but now I have two of everything. GREATTTTTTT.

  • Birthday duplicates in ical

just upgraded to lion and now my calendar has duplicate birthdays
i have the brithdays entered in my address book
i'm confused where to change this on the icloud or my address book or my ical???

    Hi Bruce,
On the iCloud website it has a seperate setting to show/hide the birthdays calendar. This won't show in iCal but will on the website. At https://www.icloud.com/#calendar clcik on the cog icon (top right) and open Preferences to turn it on and off.

  • How do I prevent duplicates in iCal on iPhone 4, Mac, and in iCloud?

I just downloaded iOS5 and set up iCloud.  Since I have synced everything with iCloud, everything seems to be working ok, except for iCal.  Since I turned it on, it created 5 or 6 of every event in iCal on my iPhone, mac, and the online iCloud site.  Also, the On My Mac calendar list in iCal on my mac was randomly deleted after I turned on iCloud.
Any ideas on this matter and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!!

    I fixed it!  Nvm.  haha...
Create folder in Finder for Calendars.
Export all calendars in iCal in case you lose everything in this process for some reason.
Turn off icloud calendar syn on ioc device and mac.
Manually deleted all duplicates and double checked times to make sure nothing had changed.
Turned icloud calendars back on on ios devices and mac.
this worked for me.  it took a while cause of all the events, but in the end it worked.
*Also, make sure you are in the same time zone for icloud.com, ios devices and mac.
I might add though, the On My Mac calendar list is still absent.  Does anyone know if this is a problem.

  • Duplicate calendar / iCal entries every time I sync Nokia 6300

Every time I sync my Nokia 6300 the entries I have put on the calendar on the phone originally and which have then synced to iCal get duplicated so that I end up with duplicate entries every time I use iSync
As always any help or advice most appreciated
    Thanks a million in advance

Ok, the same problem occurs when I start my mac not in my local network, but in a network that is connected to the Internet. The WebDAV cal account will be created automatically when Internet is available.

  • Repeated events duplicate in iCal if modified on iOS

I'm posting a more generalized version of this question (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2603361&tstart=0); encountering the same issue on an iPod Touch syncing over USB would seem to indicate that neither MobileMe nor anything specific to an iPhone is at fault. My apologies if this is in violation of this forum's rules of etiquette.
Here's how I phrased it on the Feedback page, where I submitted a bug report regarding this issue:
If a repeating event is created in Calendar on iPod Touch (4.2.1), then synced to iCal using iTunes (USB cable sync, rather than MobileMe), then edited on the iPod Touch (i.e. the date or time is changed for all future events), then the iPod Touch is synced again, this will result in two repeating events in iCal on the Mac: one that reflects the changed version of the event, and one that is the original version of the event, each following their own repeating schedule. Please advise as to possible solutions.
Any help anyone can give would be much appreciated. She's got an iMac mid-2008 running 10.5.8, iCal 3.0.8, iTunes 10.1.1, and her iPod Touch is a fourth-gen running 4.2.1. She's quite angry about this issue, and I fear she's about to give up on Apple entirely as a result.

Am facing the same issue with an iPad; but this is not the first time I've seen this happen. It has also happened when syncing from iCal to a Blackberry Curve via Blackberry Desktop Manager. Any repeated events - and not just from the iOS side of things - ANY repeated events cause this to happen.
iCal has the correct number of events and times, but as soon as you sync to another device, it becomes unusable. My wife runs a cleaning business where she constantly has to rearrange schedules for repeating customers. As soon as she does it once, she's got 2 copies of the same. Change the event twice, and suddenly she has 4 copies.
    Please help.

  • How do I delete duplicates in ical?

I've imported my calendar fom my work PC - in ics format.  Of course I want to do this every week or so to keep up to date, but it doesn't overwrite dups, it creates a new entry!  How do I delete these dups?

I would ask the users in the iCal forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/applications/ical.  Good luck

iCal on the Mac clearly shows a set of calendars for the Mac and a set for iCloud ? I am supposed to use just one set ? which one?

  • Totally at a loss with Duplicates/Triplicates in iCloud on all devices

OK - first, I am not an Apple novice and know my equipment backwards and forwards....but this one has me totally stumped and wondering if anyone has any ideas...
Second -- I have never used MobileMe, so this is not a migration problem....
Third - sync in iTunes is unchecked so I won't get duplicates
So, setting up iCloud -- iPad, iPhone and on my Macbook Pro -- following the instructions exactly one step at a time as given in APple's own instructions...
Sync 1 with iPhone creates duplicates in iCal, Reminders, Address Book on both Mac and iPhone
Sync 2 with iPad creates duplicates in iCal, Reminders, Address Book on Mac, Iphone, and iPad -
Results in duplicates and triplicates in all of them
The only thing not effected is Notes -- which don't seem to sync at all now with iCloud...
Now, to trouble shoot - I've gone through all the steps suggested by others here, and all it does is recreate the problem when iCloud sync is initiated again...
I have even gone to icloud.com and deleted everything there to assure that isn't corrupted.
I closed iCloud on all devices and selected "delete" from the sync options.
I deleted all calendars, reminders, notes, Address books from all the devices.
I restored the calendars, reminders, notes, Address books from TIme machine from earlier in the week - about as accurate as I can get right now with all the messed up iCloud syncs...
Re-establish sync with iCloud and EVERY SINGLE problem with duplicates and triplicates is back...
    What the --
Anyone have any ideas at all?  I'm going to go talk to the Genius Bar on Saturday (no appointments tomorrow on iPhone launch day), but I'm not hopeful they know more than I do about these things -- so I am turning to the experts here...
AFter spending about 14 hours syncing resyncing restoring resyncing etc. I am not back to a clean tethered-through-iTunes sync, and have found iCloud to be 100% worthless....

Thanks MaxGuru, but that absolutely did NOT do it. That was one of the first things I tried.
OK -- so, I have returend from a TWO HOUR Genius Bar appointment and here is what we figured out: there was NOTHING that could be fixed to prevent the duplicates, not matter which solutions we tired (all those mentioned in the forum, and elsewhere).
What did we do?....First, I have always backed everything up, so I had backups to play with. Make sure you back up everything before you try anything else I mention here (i.e. do an export for iCal, Address Book etc. -- I worked from fresh copies from my Time machine backup from Monday before all this mess started to assure it was as clean as possible.)  I put those on my desktop for the time being so we can access them quickly and easily.
Step 1: delete all calendars, address book, reminders, notes from desktop, iPhone, iPad, and iCloud.com (yes, delete it all).
Step 2: put a clean copy of all that data back on your Mac (or PC) from your backup.
Step 3: In iCloud, turn off all calendars that they create that you are not using (work, home, calendar for example are calendars iCloud creates that I have never used since I have created my own and named them MyLastName, Holidays, etc).
Step 3: Turn iCloud off everywhere: on your iPHone, on your Mac, and on your iPad. Make sure you turn off every single feature, not just calendar. Totally turn everything off. LOG OUT OF ICLOUD.COM, DELETE iCloud account on your iPad, DELETE Icloud account on your iPhone.
Step 4: Restore your calendar, notes, address book on your Mac from backup (do not restore reminders - those are gone, never use old ones again, you'll create new down the road -- it just will not sync no matter what from an old copy at this point)
Step 4: Hard-wire sync your iPad and your Mac through iTunes. You'll have to turn on all the sync features. DO NOT sync your iPhone (unless it will be the only thing you sync with your iCloud and mac). Go back into the Info tab and after syncing turn off all the sync features you turned on (contacts, calendars, etc)
    Step 5: Disconnect from iTunes
Step 6. Log back into iCloud.com on your Mac. Leave it be.
Step 6B - and this is important: On both your iPad and your iPhone, turn off all calendars that are not yours as per above.
Step 7. Log back into iCLoud on your iPad.  Your iPAD will become your primary sync source. Now go ahead and one at a time turn on the address book (wait a bit, check icloud.com on your Mac to make sure it was connected properly). Then turn on the calendar (wait a bit -- depending on how big your calendar is, it might take 5-10 minutes for it to all upload to iCloud from the iPad). Check iCloud to make sure it is there. Same thing with all the other features -- one at a time from the iPad first.
Step 7. From your Mac, go to Preferences>iCloud> and turn on one feature at a time. It should now be okay without any duplicates being introduced. Give it a few minutes to make sure everything remains stable.
Step 8. Now connect your iPhone to iCloud-- be aware this might cause duplicates on your iPhone -- not to worry, there is a way to fix that. Add one feature at a time as you recreate your iCloud account on your iPhone. Start with Address, then then others...
Step 9. Check your iPhone calendar. You might have duplicates on your iPhone. That is okay. DO NOT do any further sync at this time. If you only have one copy of your calendars on your iPhone, you are good to go, and your iCloud connection should now be stable.  Step 9B -- If you have duplicates on the iPhone, go to iCloud settings on your iPhone, and uncheck Calendars. When it says delete all on this iPhone, select yes. Wait a moment. Turn your iPhone back on. It should within a few moments push one single copy of the calendar to your iPhone. Now your are good to go.
Why this is such a hassle, is anybody's guess. We literally had two Geniuses at my local Apple Store working on this with me, and we had Apple's Tech Support on the phone the entire time through the process.  When it takes about 7 people to correct a simple iCloud tech problem, you know there is something seriously amiss and there will be a lot of problems with people using iCloud for the smartphone features rather than the entertainment features down the road.
Anyway -- hopefull this might work for some of you. If not, good luck in finding your solution.
The overall answer seemed to have been to a) completely delete all old data and backup clean copies, and b) use the iPad DEVICE as your primary inital iCloud sync source. How backward is that, when your desktop/laptop should always be one's primary source.

  • Cannot manually select Automator workflows in iCal

I know That the Way, Apple intends that we create an Automator workflow as an iCal alarm is to create a new iCal alarm in Automator, and once you save it it automatically creates a new event in iCal. Unfortunately, that's not the way I want to work… I already have dozens of iCal alarms configured, and I'm trying to prep them for Mountain Lion: the currently open AppleScript's but all of my Apple scripts need to be converted to Automator workflows for Mountain Lion. So I was hoping to quickly duplicate previous iCal workflows, then reselect them from within existing events in iCal. Sadly, all of my iCal Automator workflows appear as greyed out in my File Open dialog when attempting to select a new file to run within my iCal alert.
I don't want to have to delete all of my iCal alarms and start over creating them anew. Perhaps I am missing something simple?

according to the first link I can save the applecript as an application. It doesn't answer why my automator workflows are greyed out when I try to select them, but maybe I'll just try saving as applications... sounds simpler.

  • How can I erase all phantom iCal data from my iPhone/Flat Panel Mac?

Tried many ideas and Apple Genius could not even help me. Here is the scoop...
I created an iCloud account then synched my iPhone to my Flat Panel. Suddenly my iPhone showed up to six duplicates of iCal events (often a week or two later than the actual event). My Flat Panel iCal showed no such events. I erased all data and settings from the iPhone, restarted it from scratch (both from a back-up and as a new iPhone). As soon as I synch it to the Flat Panel the multiple events reappear on the iPhone but still not on the Flat Panel. I checked the "replace all calendar info" box in iTunes before synching. I deleted my iCloud account. I tried synching my old 1st gen iPod to teh Flat Panel, and the iCal info there is correct. I erased the iPhone and started over by starting it up/synching with my Macbook Air. The iCal info is now correct on my iPhone. How can I go back to synching on my Flat Panel? Where is the phantom info hiding on the Flat Panel?
Thanks for helping me with this strange problem!
    John

    Ohnj,
I presume that you are no longer trying to use iCloud for syncing with the "Flat Panel." It will not work since you are using OS X 10.5.8.
Quit iCal, go to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars folder and remove any/all files with "Cache" as a part of the file name. Then log out/in or restart and see what happens.

  • Calendar sync between iCal, Outlook 2011 and 2010 and iCloud

    All,
I'm having trouble syncing calendars on my devices and I haven't been able to find a workable solution yet. I know this topic has been covered extensively, but I haven't found anything that works.
I want to be able to sync my calendars (email works just fine) between three devices: A MBP (Mountain Lion) running Outlook 2011, iPhone 4S (Calendar App) and a desktop (Win8) with Outlook 2010.
Currently, I have no problem syncing the desktop with my iPhone (using iCloud) and these events sync into iCal on the MBP. Outlook 2011 on the MBP syncs into iCal using Sync Services to the "On My Mac" calendar. All of my previous calendar entries are single events in the iPhone, Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2011, but show up as duplicates in iCal (one entry is in the iCloud calendar, and other is in the On My Mac calendar). Since I don't use iCal as my "working" calendar program on my MBP, the duplicates are fine if it works as an interface between iCloud and On My Mac.
For any new calendar items, however, I must obviously select which calendar they'll appear in. As suspected, if I select iCloud, the items all sync to iCal, Outlook 2010 and my iPhone, but not Outlook 2011; conversely, creating events in Outlook 2011 syncs via On My Mac to iCal, but not the devices as using iCloud.
It seems to me that if a rule could be made in iCal which duplicated any event from On My Mac into iCloud, and another rule which duplicated iCloud events into On My Mac, there would be complete syncing across the programs, with obvious duplications of events in iCal (which is fine by me). I'm not a programmer and I have no idea how to, or even if, this can be done.
Has anyone else found a way to make this work, or have any other solutions?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Outlook 2011 is not compatible with iCloud, it won't work and your 'workaround' may affect iCloud clients on the same account.
    Don't use 2011.

  • Sync with Leopard ical

Reading the requirements for the new iCal/MobileMe app, it says that Snow Leopard is required.  Does that mean that other computer on my network need to be running SL to access/sync with the new format?  I've been reading the support articles resolving initial problems I had, most were just that I didn't read the directions close enough - but all is well on my MobileMe Calendar and my SL MacBook Pro Calendar.  But I have an older G5 on my home network, Leopard 10.5.8, which can't have iCal upgraded on it, but was wondering if any problems syncing it with MobileMe would happen.  I hope this will resolve the duplicates in iCal that have plagued my iPhone 3GS for a long time (once I sync it).
Now I wish there was an easy way of cleaning out my Address Book Contacts so what is synced is usable.  Between AOL, Entourage (now Outlook) and I presume Mail, every mail address added to my contacts (especially the ones added when you accept incoming images and it's added to the contact list) has been syncing to my iPhone - making it almost useless.  Many mail lists, etc., have been put into it and I don't want them on my iPhone.
Oh, and kudos to Apple Support for articles on the iCal changes that helped me resolve my problems.  My main iCal, like I said, is on my MBPro and was having problems but it's all fixed now.  Hope the other devices do as well.
    Tom

iCal on Macs running Leopard cannot read the new MobileMe calendars until an additional process has been carried out, described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4330
As to Address Book: the entire contacts list will sync everywhere. You can't partially sync. The only way to remove the unwanted contacts is individual deletion, whereupon they will disappear from every device which is successfully syncing.
