Dynamic Accordian Implimentation

Hi... I'm trying to use spry to implement a dynamic project
list with a detail section for a client.
What I've got is a page with categories of projects. Each of
the categories will be a tab on an accordian widget. In each of the
categories I want to have a spry table with the projects of that
category that then link to a detail region.
Right now I've got an XML data set with all of the projects
that I need to figure out a way to filter under each accordian tab,
but I could do multiple xml data sets (1 for each category).

Dynamic Accordian Menu - Stay Open?

Hi,
I've developed an accordian menu seen on left hand side here:
http://quarsh.worldsecuresystems.com/
Managed to get it all working so that when the top item is clicked it opens the submenus and other items without submenus remain as standard links.
I would now like to be able to force the submenu items to stay open if possible. It's acceptable to have to put some special code in relative areas in the dynamic menu editor or in templates.
Anyone got any pointers?

Hello Tom,
If you want to keep the submenu open when you are on those pages you should just need some css.
For the hidden ul, when we are within the "What We Do" section would just be:
#nav ul li.selected ul{
display: block;
You will still be able to click the "what we do" link to make the ul hide, but it will show on page load.

Using Dynamic Visibility with Accordian Menu

Hiya. I am trying to use dynamic visibility with an accordian menu. My menu categories are years, 2005 - 2010. My categories items are key performance indicators such as abandon percentage, first call resolution, customer satisfaction percentage, call volume and average speed of answer.
Of my 6 KPIs, 4 display as percentages and 2 display as whole numbers. When the percentage graphs are displayed the axis labels needs to be percentages. When the whole number graphs are displayed the axis label needs to show whole numbers.
I thought to achieve this I should use dynamic visibility with two different line charts where one line chart shows percentages and the other line chart shows whole numbers. However I am strugging trying to make that happen.
Is my concept correct, or is there an easier way to accomplish this? If my concept is correct,can someone give me some advice on how to make dynamic visibility display the correct chart depending on which KPI I select from my accordian menu?

You can achieveby doing following steps..
Insert your categories into D3 and label bind to E3.
take two charts and bind to the destination data of Accordion menu
then write a formula in F3 like this =IF(OR(E3="abandon percentage",E3="customer satisfaction percentage"),1,0)
and bind your two charts to the F3 and set DV for % charts as 1 and # charts as 0.

Spry Accordian with dynamic panels from XML

Hi. I've searched, but haven't seen anybody answer this yet.
I'm trying to build a page that uses a spry accordian to display
data by category. So category 1 is on panel 1 in a spry table with
a link to a spry detail section on the page. Category 2 is on panel
2 in a spry table with a link to the same spry detail section, etc.
I have 2 issues: 1) I haven't figured out how to filter a
single XML data set onto different accordian panels or
2) how to get the same detail region to take links from
different XML data sets on the different panels.
Any help that anybody could give would be VERY much
appreciated.

The key is the Data Set Shell. I use multiple data sets for
each category, in your case department. Then I list the items in
that category to update a detail region. If the above link doesn't
help you please re-post and I can give you some more help.

Accordian dynamic data problem

I am trying to create an accordian that holds unique
catigories as the tab name and then a list of names that relate to
that category in the content. I have tried to model this a little
after the rssreader demo and the accordian samples. What i think is
happening is it is only showing one catigory like i need it to but
then it is still putting each name in a seperate "content window"
instead of a sigle one. The code is

Thank you for replying. Yea I did have an error in my code
with the spelling mistake but I had fixed that. I think you are on
to something with the observer because it does seem like it is not
loading all the data first then creating the accordian. I am pretty
new at all this and don't really know how to use the observers. I
had followed the example you eluded to earlier when i started this
and I saw there were two different ways to write the code. One as I
did with the script inside the <div> and the other as shown
in example 2 of the page you sent me. Do I need to combine these in
some way? I guess I need a little help on how to use the observer.

Panel Accordian Hiding Dynamically

Hi,
I want to hide panelaccordian dynamically on the page. I have templeate with facet on the right and panelaccordian on the left like a navigation bar.
I am using gliobal bean to call different task flow and launch the page in the facet.
I want to hide panelaccordian condtionally on some of the pages.

depends on what you mean by "conditionally". It really depends on whether the task flow is supposed to hide the accordion or if this is from logic that resides on the same view

Dynamic Sorting on Multiple filed in Crystal report 2008

I am using Crystal report 2008 sp3 full build with hotfix 3.3 along with ASP.NET 2.0
I have implimented the multi filed sorting using the record sort export and setting the sort order in the report designer.
Now my requirement is such that i would like to have dynamic sorting on multiple fileds while report is displayed in the UI.
Means suppose i have a report with Customer region,name,city,rating,status etc.
Now by using the sort control i would like to have the functionality in such a way that if user
a) first sorts on the region then the records should be first sorted by region
b) then sorts on the city then the records should be sorted first by region then by city
c) now sorts on the rating then the records should be sorted first by region ,second by city and then by rating
Now other user may do
a) first sorts on the rating then the records should be first sorted by rating
b) then sorts on the status then the records should be sorted first by rating then by status
c) now user sorts on the region then the records should be sorted first by rating,second by status and then by region
and so on the sorting criteria changes from user to user through the UI.
Is there any way to achieve the dynamic kind of sorting with Crytsal report 2008 where we can set the order of the fileds at sorting in UI dynamically .The sorting order of the fields are not known at the time of design of the report and its completely depends on the user's need.

As i have mentioned in the first post the order of sorting is completely depends on the user's perspective .
The report is used by the whole organization ..
i mean the people with different roles like Manger,Team leads,modul leads,developers ,testers etc..
the usage of report varies according to the roles so the sort order also.

How to dynamically load jar files - limiting scope to that thread

Dynamically loading jar files has been discussed a lot. I have read a quite a few posts, articles, and demo code for doing just that. However, I have yet to find a solution to my problem. Most people modify their system class loader and are happy. I have done that and was happy for a time. Occasionally, you will see reference to an application server or tomcat or some other large project that have successfully been able to load and unload jar files, allow for dynamic deployment of code, etc. However, I have not been able to achieve similar success; And my problem is much less complicated.
I have an application that executes a thread to send a given file/message to a standard JMS Server Queue. Depending on the parameters selected by the user, this thread may need to communicate with one of a number of JMS Servers, ie. JBoss, WebLogic, EAServer, Glassfish, etc. All of which can be done with the same code, but each needs to load their own flavor of JMS Client Jar files. In this instance, spawning a separate JVM for each communication would work from a classloader perspective. However, I need to keep it in the family and run under the same JVM, albeit each JMS Server Connection will be created and maintained in separate Threads.
I am close, I am doing the following...
1. Creating a new URLClassLoader in the run() method of each thread.
2. Set this threads contextClassLoader to the new URLClassLoader.
3. Load the javax.jms.JMSException class with the URLClassLoader.loadClass() method.
4. Create an initialContext object within this thread.
Note: I read that the initialContext and subsequent conext lookup calls would use the Thread�s
contextClassLoader for finding/loading classes.
5. Perform context.lookup calls for a connectionFactory and Queue name.
6. Create JMS Connection, etc. Send Message.
Most of this seems to work. However, I am still getting a NoClassDefFoundError exception for the javax.jms.JMSException class ( Note step #3 - tried to cure unsuccessfully).
If I include one of the JMS Client jar files ( ie wljmsclient.jar for weblogic ) in the classpath then it works for all the different JMS Servers, but I do not have confidence that each of the providers implemented these classes that now resolve the same way. It may work for now, but, I believe I am just lucky.
Can anyone shine some light on this for me and all the others who have wanted to dynamically load classes/jar files on a per Thread basis?

Thanks to everyone - I got it working!
First, BenSchulz' s dumpClassLoader() method helped me to visualize the classLoader hierarchy. I am still not completely sure I understand why my initial class was always found by the systemClassLoader, but knowning that - was the step I needed to find the solution.
Second, kdgregory suggested that I use a "glue class". I thought that I already was using a "glue class" because I did not have any JMSClient specific classes exposed to the rest of the application. They were all handled by my QueueAdmin class. However...
The real problem turned out to be that my two isolating classes (the parent "MessageSender", and the child "QueueAdmin") were contained within the same jar file that was included in the classpath. This meant that no matter what I did the classes were loaded by the systemClassLoader. Isolating them in classes was just the first step. I had to remove them from my jar file and create another jar file just for those JMSClient specific classes. Then this jar file was only included int custom classLoader that I created when I wanted to instantiate a JMSClient session.
I had to create an interface in the primary jar file that could be loaded by the systemClassLoader to provide the stubs for the individual methods that I needed to call in the MessageSender/QueueAdmin Classes. These JMSClient specific classes had to implement the interface so as to provide a relationship between the systemClassLoader classes and the custom classLoader classes.
Finally, when I loaded and instantiated the JMSClient specific classes with the custom classLoader I had to cast them to the interface class in order to make the method calls necessary to send the messages to the individual JMS Servers.

Mobile site using an accordian panel with menu selections

In the demo, when you preview it mobile site, the menu is not displayed and when you tap th emenu, the accordian menu displays and pushes all the content down and then when you close it, pushes it back up.
I created a similar test mobile site. But, when I preview it the menu always appear on start up and the content is not pushed down or up when the menu is activated or closed. I noticed that the options on the accordian widget in the video are different than in my MUSE which is V7.1 build 329. There is no close all initially check box. Instead I have an overlap item below check box.
So my question is what do I need to do to get this to work as per the video.

I think there may be an issue in how your model/Accordion Menu was configured. What insert option are you using? Your destination should only be 'one' row OR 'one' column at the most.

Dynamic Type casting

Can we dynamically type-cast an object reference passed to Object Clss to that specific class?
Here is what I want to do.
I am going to pass an object reference to a method, which has Object class as parameter to it, as shown below. Using getClass() or some other way, I want to dynamically typecast this reference to the original Class and call some method of this Class.

By doing this, am I violating the basic Object Orineted rules?

I mean, consider an hypothetical case (which is wrong
from OO point of view) that there are suppose 10
classes in my system. None of them related to each
other, all are independent classes. But each one has a
method called, writeLog(). Now I want to write one
method which will be called by each of these classes
(in some 11th class), which will have "Object" as a
parameter. Now using the actual reference I want to
call the corresponding writeLog() method.
1 - Point out to management that the design is now officially broken.
2 - Point out that if the design is not fixed then any solution that impliments the changes will cost more to maintain in the future and will likely lead to instabilities in the system (due to complexity.)
3 - Implement one of the suggested solutions and make sure that you put in a lot of error checking and logging in the hacked solution.
4 - Produce extensive documentation about the impact of changing any of the objects that you are relying on. Push it to anyone and everyone that might ever touch or even suggest changes to the code.
Doing all of the above allows you to live stress free when the next revision breaks because someone didn't understand the implications of your hacked solution. You will be able to find the problem quickly and point out that it had nothing to do with your code but rather because someone else did not follow the complete documentation that you produced. And then when they complain that your solution was a hack you can point out that you explained that previously as well.

Site refreshed from dynamic data.

I have a site stubb out that has multiple accordian canvases
each containing a tree. In my header area I have a combo box that
give you a list of clients. When you select a new client, I want to
reload all the trees in each accordian cavas with that clients
data.
I have played around and am able to do this setting a click
event on buttons that will call the send method on my HTTPService
object, and it appears to work, but I dont have a lot of control
over the data, and my implementation is pretty "clunky".... I am
looking for high level suggestions as to a best practice to
dynamically load data via http calls and refresh page data.
I am not very well versed in Actionscript, but am wondering
if I should be building a majority of the site through actionscript
objects instead of mxml. This will be a much bigger learning curve
for me, but I am assuming it will give me a much more flexible
site.
Please let me know if you have any comments or resources that

Working with flex involves learning at least 2 languages, the
flex language both mxml and actionscript and usint it in a
combination, but to have a dynamic site you also need to know a
backend language like C# or VB.NEt, PHP , also is useful to know a
little about Databases, because if you want a dynamic site it will
involve data for sure and where do youget data from? A database.
You will build much of your site in actionscript that is a certain,
because mxml is very good but itself is not sufficent to do
everything you want.

Dynamic Accordion 2-Levels deep

Hello,
I'm relatively new to FLEX and I am having a problem
referencing a dynamically named UI object to add a child to.
I am building a menu with an accordion, adding tab sections
using the addChild method, and then trying to add link buttons
within each tab section. No matter how I try to reference the
dynamically named tab section, nothing seems to work....
any help would be appreciated.

There are 3 panels and empty accordians (hardcoded in the
mxml) ,
I retrieve from a database a list of tabs I want to display,
loop through and add to the accordian in which it belongs.
This works up to this point and adds all the children
correctly, but trying to add children (link buttons) to those newly
added children (tab sections) is where I'm tripping up....

I was able to achieve this using a different method;
1. Returning XML instead of a query object from my remote
object.
2. Loop through the XML nodes using nested repeaters hard
coded in the mxml.

Resizing Accordian based on the content in each component within in it.

Hi,
I wanted to know whether is there a way to resize Accordion
component based on the content in the present tab.In my Accordion I
am using four Canvas as its four children.The data in each of the
canvas changes based on the Accordian tab selected. I want to
dynamically resize the entire accordion based on the content in the
canvas for that tab.
In short the height of the Accordion need to change
dynamically based on the tab selected. I have tried using the
resizeToContent property but this didn't solve the problem.

We can resize it.Always give the height and weight in
percentage format. and turn off the horizontal n vertical scroll
policy in u r main application.

Dynamic Expression Evaluation in AS 3

Hi all,
AS 2 had the eval() function, but it was removed in AS 3. Does anyone know of a way to dynamically evaluate an expression in AS 3+?
I'm trying to impliment a feature that allows a user to define the behavior of a component based on the evaluation of an expression (composed of conditional, logical and grouping operators which operate on constants and remote data sources).
Any ideas how one might do that using the current Flex toolset and or 3rd party libs?

Form Guide - dynamic field within dynamic container.

I have a form Guide using dynamic containers, but within the dynamic container on the Form Guide within the same Repeater Accordion Panel, I also need a dynamic Row (2 fields) that need to repeat within the repeating container. I have built this in Adobe Lifecycle ES and once the Form Guide is finished will be taking it to Adobe Workbench to render.
Could you please assist in how to make the dynamic row repeat within a container/panel that is also already repeating?

I have a requirement for the same thing. Unfortunately it doesn't look like this is possible as there is only one dataProvider per Panel - based on the type of panel chosen, this dataProvider will be used to populate a control (accordion, grid or tab) in the panel or used to populate a number of repeated (static) panels.
My workaround has been to create a set number (10) of repeatable control panels (accordian, grid, tab) and then use the panel display rules to hide those panels with no data in them. It is very tedious to do as the guide builder has no rebind feature (you have to create all 10 panels from scratch - you can't copy & paste the layout, then rebind the panel items to another field in the form).
