sorry.. i got an error when replying to the original message..
Thanks for the quick response. I'm assuming this applies to datasources as well. So, there's not much WL overhead with creating hundreds datasources and connection pools up front?

  • Difference between Datasource and Connection Pool

    Hi,
    What is the major difference between Datasource and Connection Pool.
    Both the Datasource with JNDI and Connectio Pool will serve the pool of connections. Then what is the difference.
    regards,
    Raj

    A datasource is not implicitly a connection pool. You can configure that in the datasource properties. A connection pool is also not implicitly a datasource. You can create your own connection pool using the java.sql interfaces. A datasource just gives the ability to acquire the connections and access the database through JNDI. A connection pool just gives the ability to reuse a set of connections which are created/closed/controlled by the connection pool logic.

  • Migrating from WebLogic v8.1.3 to v10.3:  Datasources and Connection Pools

    I took the liberty to migrate my OLD BEA WebLogic v8.1.3 domain (i.e. sample) to Oracle WebLogic v10.3. Everything appears to run smoothly BUT when I try to connect to the Hypersonic Database I had from the OLD environment, I get connection errors (i.e. weblogic.common.ResourceException). I can see from the NEW 10.3 environment that the migration utility creates two (2) datasources (sampleDS and samplePool). However, when clicking through the screens, I do not see how sampleDS refers to the samplePool out of the box from the migration utility. When I start the WebLogic domain with startWebLogic.cmd...here is the code to launch the actual DB instance:
    cd hsqldb
    start "Sample DB (HSQLDB)" %JAVA_HOME%\bin\java -classpath hsqldb.jar -Xms32m -Xmx128m org.hsqldb.Server -database sampleDB -port 15553 -silent false -trace false
    cd ..
    This works quite well and launches a window that has the following:
    | Sample DB (HSQLDB)
    | server.properties not found, using command line or default properties
    | Opening database: sampleDB
    | server.port =15553
    | server.database =sampleDB
    | server.silent =false
    | HSQLDB server 1.7.1 is running
    | Use SHUTDOWN to close normally, Use [CTRL] + [C] to abort abruptly
    | Wed Jun 16 10:18:48 EDT 2010 Listening for connections ...
    |_________________________________________________________
    This is the right screen and confirms my database is up and running and waiting for connections. Somehow, when I migrated from 8.1 to 10.3 something is not configured correctly and my sampleDS is not properly leveraging the samplePool. Can anyone shed any light on this problem?
    I have went through most of the posts and can not seem to understand what happens to the DS and Pools during the migration and specifically how do I reconnect the two to ensure that I can connect to the database. The app is up and running fine in WebLogic v10.3 but without the dB connection, I am stuck at the login screen.

  • DataSource Vs Connection Pooling

    What is the difference between Datasource and Connection Pool, and what is the advantages of using both.can any one plz explain me..

    Hi,
    Without creating a Connection Pool, one can not create a Data Source.
    Connection Pool refers to the DataBase URL, Driver Class, User-Id and Password for the database.
    Data Source refers to the Connection Pool created above for the particular database.
    And to get connection from the DataSource:
    DataSource ds = (javax.sql.DataSource)initCtx.lookup("JNDI-NAME");
    Connection conn = ds.getConnection();

  • DataSource without a Pool?

    Can't use DriverManager. It has synchronization problems and deadlocks under
    heavy loads. :( It's a known issue to which the solution is to either use
    the Driver directly or a DataSource. Driver does not have setLoginTimeout(),
    but DataSource does, so I thought I'd try the DataSource route rather than
    rolling my own Connection timeout-managing Thread.

    It's not something I have control over. The data is highly sensitive and

    The question is, how do I set a login timeout on connecting to thedatabase
    so that I can fail over to a backup database in a timely manner?

    Hi Bob,
    Getting a connection is a pretty expensive operation,
    Using connection pool does reduce time necessary to
    get a connection. This is what the pools are.
    The open question is how to handle different access
    right. I'd create a report user that is capable of accessing
    data required for all reports. If it's a serverside app, actual
    users won't be able to access DB directly anyways.

    My goal is to find a way to reduce the timeout time for making aconnection.
    I'm not sure using a dynamic pool would facilitate this.

    Have you considered a pool per user, with only one connection?
    You can have as many pools as you want, and the dynamic pool
    API will allow you to create and destroy pools in a running
    server.
    Do you require weblogic transactional control?

    Hi Bob,
    DataSource can not be used without a connection pool.
    In fact, DS is just a standard facade for a connection
    producing
    facility, which is a connection pool in case of weblogic.
    BTW, why would you need to have different loginnames/passwords
    for a serverside application?

  • Dynamic SQL and Data with Single Quotes in it.

    Hi There,
    I have a problem in that I am using dynamic SQL and it happens that one of the columns does contain single quotes (') in it as part of the data. This causes the resultant dynamic SQL to get confused as the single quote that is part of the data is taken to mean end of sting, when in fact its part of the data. This leaves out a dangling single quote that was meant to enclose the string. Here is my dynamic SQL and the result of the parsed SQL that I have captured:
    ****Dynamic SQL*****
    l_sql:='select NOTE_TEMPLATE_ID '||
    'FROM TMP_NOTE_TEMPLATE_VALUES '||
    'where TRIM(LEGACY_NOTE_CODE)='''||trim(fp_note_code)||''' '||
    'and TRIM(DISPLAY_VALUE)='''||trim(fp_note_text)||''' ';
    execute immediate l_sql INTO l_note_template_id;
    Because the column DISPLAY_VALUE contains data with single quotes, the resultant SQL is:
    ******PARSED SQL************
    select NOTE_TEMPLATE_ID
    FROM TMP_NOTE_TEMPLATE_VALUES
    where TRIM(LEGACY_NOTE_CODE)='INQ' and TRIM(DISPLAY_VALUE)='Cont'd'
    And the problem lies with the single quote between teh characters t and d in the data field for DISPLAY_ITEM. How can I handle this?
    Many thanks,

    I have been reliably informed that if one doesn't enclose char/varchar2 data items in quotes, the right indices may not be usedI am into oracle for past 4 years and for the first time i am hearing this.
    Your reliable source is just wrong. Bind variables are variables that store your value and which are used in SQL. They are the proper way to use values in your SQL. By default all variables in PL/SQL is bind variable.
    When you can do some thing in just straight SQL just do it. Dynamic SQL does not make any sense to me here.
    Thanks,
    Karthick.

    I've gone through the following links which talks about the cause of the issue, but still can't figure out the issue in the code or the config file. Please help if, someone has faced a similar issue.

    Hi Frank,
    I m trying to save entity and view object xml by calling writeXMLContents() and saveXMLContents() so that these objects can be retrieved using the xmls later on.
    These methods internally use MDS configuration in adf-config.xml, which is creating the issue.
    Please share your thoughts on resolving this or if, there is any other way of creating dynamic entity/view objects for db tables created at runtime.

  • How to use DataSource and External transaction in 9ias?

    I'm working on a project that the application server needs to connect to over 100 databases.
    I'd like to use connection pooling and external transaction service defined in OC4J's Datasources.
    I wonder if anyone has an example of using datasource and external transaction service for OC4J.
    Right now, I export toplink project to a java source and do the initialization there manually but I don't know how to use Datasource to get connections and how to use the external transaction service in the java code for OC4J.
    I really appreciate you help.

    Here is a fill in the blank example on how you could set this up through code:
    Project project = new MyProject();
    // alternatively, use the XMLProjectReader
    server = project.createServerSession();
    server.getLogin().useExternalConnectionPooling();
    server.getLogin().setConnector(new JNDIConnector(new javax.naming.InitialContext(), "jdbc/DataSourceName"));
    // the next line depends on the type of driver you want to use.
    server.getLogin().useOracleThinJDBCDriver();
    server.getLogin().useOracle();
    server.getLogin().setUserName("username");
    server.getLogin().setPassword("password");
    server.getLogin().useExternalTransactionController();
    server.setExternalTransactionController(new Oracle9iJTSExternalTransactionController());
    server.logMessages();

    How is that webservice secured?

  • Data source for application using both pooled and non pooled connections

    Hi guys.
    I am integrating Oracle's connection pooling into an existing application that had formerly used dbConnectionBroker. It looks like this task should be quite straightforward. However, for consistency, I would also like to replace other Connection logic within the application to use Oracle classes. This will involve using OracleDataSource to obtain a Connection object. ( without pooling ).
    So in this case, the application will use both pooled and non pooled Oracle connections. They will be connecting to the same database. The question I have is in regard to the use of data-sources.xml.
    Are there any special considerations for the required attribute values within data-sources.xml under this scenario ?
    Help will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards.
    Steve.

    Hi Steve -
    It should be feasible for you to define a single datasource using multiple location entries to indicate what sort of pooling behaviour you wish to use.
    If you lookup and use the "location" attribute, you will receive a javax.sql.DataSource object which will not provide connection pooling.
    If you lookup and use the "ejb-location" attribute you will receive a DataSource object that will support connection pooling operations.
    Note that this is using the emulated datasource approach, and transaction support is limited to a single resource (one database) for these datasources - you won't get 2PC support for transactions.
    If you need a transaction to span two separate resources (ie two databases in same tx) then you will need to use the non-emulated datasource approach.
    There is a chapter in the J2EE Services Guide which describes the datasource model we have with OC4J. This might provide you with some more useful information. See Chapter 11 - http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/ias/doc_library/903doc_otn/generic.903/a97690/ds3.htm#1004903

  • VM NICs keep reverting from dynamic to static IP pool on reboot

    I have a 2012 R2 System Center deployment that has been working perfectly for six months. This past week, we added another Hyper-V host into the cluster, and the networking has become problematic for us.
    VMs that were configured to be "Dynamic" IP address assigned, have changed to "Static IP Pool". I can delete the NIC, create a new NIC and set it to "Dynamic" again. Then, I reconfigure the IP address that we need assigned in
    the LAN properties of the VM and it is good until the next reboot. When we look at VMM again, the new NIC that we created is now back to "Static IP Pool". All of our VMs appear to have had this happen, and we are afraid to reboot anything at this
    point.
    We even tried configuring the NICs manually from static to dynamic via powershell, which means we don't have to remove/add a NIC, but also works only until the next reboot.
    We are using the same virtual switch, same port profiles, same port classifications and same uplink profiles.
    Any ideas?

    I feel like some issue with the Fabric configuration.
    If you are create a new VM through SCVMM, do you face this issue? (While creating the new VM, on the hardware configuration page, use dynamic IP and Dynamic MAC)
    The first event which you listed says about missing VM Network.
    No available connection to selected VM Network can be found.
    Please check the VM Network to where the VM is connected through SCVMM. And check if all the nodes have the same VM Network.
    If thats missing, fixing it might fix few other errors which you mentioned.

  • VPN ASA inside Interface and ip pool are one same Subnet

    Hi Everyone,
    I have configured RA VPN full tunnel.
    Inside interface of ASA is
    Vlan1                    inside                 10.0.0.1        255.255.255.0   CONFIG

    Need to know is it good design to have both on same subnet?
    When i access the Switch  connecting to VPN ASA  inside interface via--https://10.0.0.2

    Hi Mahesh,
    It should work but I generally would not suggest having the same network on the LAN and also configured partially as a VPN Pool network.
    Your problem at the moment is simply lacking the NAT0 configuration for the traffic between LAN and VPN Pool.
    I would suggest changing the VPN Pool first and then configuring this
    object network LAN
    subnet 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0
    object network VPN-POOL
    subnet
    nat (inside,outside) 1 source static LAN LAN destination static VPN-POOL VPN-POOL
    We have to use the line number "1" in the above command so that it gets moved to the top since your current Dynamic PAT would otherwise override it.
    In the future it would be best if you changed your current Dynamic PAT configuration to this
    nat (inside,outside) after-auto source dynamic any interface
    We simply add the "after-auto" to this Dynamic PAT configuration so that it gets moved down in priority. The "after-auto" refers to the fact that this NAT will be inserted after Auto NAT (after Section 2). Your current rule is Manual NAT (Sectiom 1). The new rule will be Manual NAT (Section 3)

  • My problem in using weblogic Datasource and proxy user

    Hello
    I create a DataSource in Weblogic that connect to the database by a proxy user and I have a client application that use this DataSource and create a proxy session , I've written my client application (it's a stand alone client application) code below :
    public static void main(String [] args) {
    OracleConnection conn=null;
    javax.sql.DataSource ds=null;
    Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
    env.put( Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory" );
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "t3://127.0.0.1:7001");
    try{
    Context context=new InitialContext( env );
    ds=(javax.sql.DataSource) context.lookup ("OracleConnection2");
    conn=(OracleConnection) ds.getConnection();
    java.util.Properties prop = new java.util.Properties();
    prop.put(OracleConnection.PROXY_USER_NAME, "web_user1");
    prop.put(OracleConnection.PROXY_USER_PASSWORD,"web_user1");
    conn.openProxySession(OracleConnection.PROXYTYPE_USER_NAME, prop);
    if (conn.isClosed()){
    System.out.println("Connection closed");
    return;
    testJDBC(conn,true);
    for(int k=0;k<10;k++){
    testJDBC(conn,false);
    conn.close(OracleConnection.PROXY_SESSION);
    conn.close();
    }catch(Exception ex){
    ex.printStackTrace();
    It works but my problem is that in line "prop.put(OracleConnection.PROXY_USER_PASSWORD,"web_user1")" or line "prop.put(OracleConnection.PROXY_USER_NAME, "web_user1");"
    Let me to mention a scenario :
    *1- I type a wrong username or password in my client application and I run the client application it shows me this error : invalid username/password*
    *this error is acceptable*
    *2- then I correct the wrong username or password immediately and run the application again , it shows me this error (at line conn.openProxySession(OracleConnection.PROXYTYPE_USER_NAME, prop)) :*

    *3- I run the application again (by correct username and password) but this time it shows me this error :*

         at oracle.HRFacadeClient.main(HRFacadeClient.java:38)
    *4 - if I repeat running the application for multi times every time it shows me the previous error*
    *5- I wait about one minute the problem solved and my application can create proxy session *
    the result is that if I wanna create proxy session by wrong username or password and I get "Invalid username/password" error message , then after correcting username or password I have to wait about one minute and then run the application again_
    Do you know how I can overcome this problem ?
    Thank you

    Hi Jamshid,
    There is same problem observed few days back with us, and we have used the below code, and it got solved. Actually there is a problem observed while using proxy connections on weblogic.
    if(conn instanceof weblogic.jdbc.extensions.WLConnection){
         weblogic.jdbc.extensions.WLConnection cn=(weblogic.jdbc.extensions.WLConnection)conn;
         cn.clearStatementCache();

  • Dynamic datasource query in Content Presenter

    I have a Documents region with a custom Content Presenter template.
    I would like to use a dynamic datasource query with this, which makes use of the currently logged in user and the user's role.
    The task flow parameters look like this now:
    <parameters>
    <parameter id="taskFlowInstId"
    value="${'afd37bc3-bd2e-4e97-b838-74c975529633'}"/>
    <parameter id="datasourceType" value="${'dsTypeQueryExpression'}"/>
    <parameter id="datasource"
    value="${'SELECT * FROM ora:t:IDC:GlobalProfile WHERE ora:p:dDocType = \'Dagbericht\''}"/>
    <parameter id="templateCategory" value="${''}"/>
    <parameter id="templateView" value="${'dagberichten.list.template'}"/>
    <parameter id="maxResults" value="${'3'}"/>
    </parameters>
    What are my options to achieve this?

    Jaap,
    You can use expression language in that query to make it dynamic.
    You could either build the full query from a managed bean or just some parameters.
    here's how you can do it when building the query from a MB:
    This should be the method in your bean:
    public String getQuery(){
      String user = ADFContext.getCurrent().getSecurityContext().getUserName();
      String query = "SELECT * FROM ora:t:IDC:GlobalProfile WHERE ora:p:dDocType = 'Dagbericht' and ora:p:dCreatedBy = '" + user + "'";
      return query;
    }Your datasource parameter should be something like this:
    <parameter id="datasource" value="#{yourBean.query}"/>note: the "and ora:p:dCreatedBy..." might not be correct but it shows how you can dynamicly build the query.
    Hope this helps.
