Dynamic domain-based entity creation and relation to base entity

Hi everyone -
My first post here...  I have a base entity (PROJECT) with an attribute called RecordType (a domain-based attribute).  Depending on the value of RecordType, the business wants to use that result set as input for another reference entity, and then
relate them together in a possible {one|many}-to-many relationship.  For example:
If RecordType = Strategy, then there is a need to create a separate entity called STRATEGY with the results of that filter.  The PROJECT entity and STRATEGY now need to be related together in a PROJECT_STRATEGY relationship table.
There seem to be a couple of options, but none are elegant, and some simply don't work:
Option #1 (doesn't work): I create the relationship table (PROJECT_STRATEGY) with a domain-based attribute of the PROJECT entity and a second domain-based attribute of the PROJECT entity (but called Strategy), and then try to create a business
rule that limits the selection of the second domain-based attribute by RecordType.  MDS tells me I can't use a domain-based attribute in the business rule.
Option #2: I create a SQL Server view called STRATEGY (which is a query based on the PROJECT entity - "where RecordType = 'Strategy') and use that as the reference set.  However, there is now no way to utilize that result set inside MDS.
In other words, I cannot use it as a domain-based attribute in the PROJECT_STRATEGY relationship table.  This means that an external system/UI would need to enable the relationship selection and write back into the PROJECT_STRATEGY relationship table
inside MDS.
Option #3: I create a STRATEGY entity that is auto-updated (via SQL Server job) every 10 minutes or so from the PROJECT entity (can't figure out how to load a reference entity based on a result set from an existing entity).  This allows me to create
two domain-based attributes in the PROJECT_STRATEGY table (as described in Option #1), but is also what I call a non-standard customization, so I have been reticent to go this route.
So, my questions/comments are:
Is there any way to make Option #1 work (using business rules)?
Option #2: Our development team doesn't want to create a separate system/UI to relate the list of PROJECTs to the list of STRATEGYs and then write them back into the PROJECT_STRATEGY relationship table.  This also limits the ability to maintain the
PROJECT_STRATEGY table inside MDS since the STRATEGY domain-based attribute would become a free-form attribute at that point.  Is there any way to register a view as a reference entity?
Should I explore Option #3?  Non-standard, non-native functionality introduced into MDS (any system, really) is something I wanted to avoid, but only from a purity and possible upgrade standpoint.  Should I get over this?
I have looked at derived and explicit hierarchies for the PROJECT entity, but they do not seem to apply in the scenario above.
Has anyone tried to create {one|many}-to-many relationships between a base entity and a subset of that base entity without resorting to non-standard customizations within MDS?  Is this as bizarre as it sounds?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
I f you are going with rtti approach.... for dynamic creation....you can assign the checktable field in field cat
ls_fcat-ref_table  = space.
    ls_fcat-ref_table  = 'ZST_DISTRIBUTED_EFFORT'.
    ls_fcat-ref_field  = 'WORK_EFFORT'.
    ls_fcat-rollname   = 'DPR_TV_EFFORT'.
    ls_fcat-domname    = 'DPR_WORK'.
    ls_fcat-reptext    = ls_fcat-fieldname.
    ls_fcat-scrtext_l  = ls_fcat-fieldname.
    ls_fcat-scrtext_m  = ls_fcat-fieldname.
    ls_fcat-scrtext_s  = ls_fcat-fieldname.
    ls_fcat-emphasize  = me->gc_flag_enable.
    ls_fcat-col_pos    = lv_counter.
ls_fcat-checktable = ' '.
    APPEND ls_fcat TO lt_fcat.
CALL METHOD cl_alv_table_create=>create_dynamic_table
    EXPORTING
      it_fieldcatalog           = lt_fcat
    IMPORTING
      ep_table                  = et_dynamic_table
    EXCEPTIONS
      generate_subpool_dir_full = 1
      OTHERS                    = 2.
  IF sy-subrc NE 0.
    es_message-id         = sy-msgid.
    es_message-type       = sy-msgty.
    es_message-number     = sy-msgno.
    es_message-message_v1 = sy-msgv1.
    es_message-message_v2 = sy-msgv2.
    es_message-message_v3 = sy-msgv3.
    es_message-message_v4 = sy-msgv4.

  • Non-reproducable issue dynamic domain based dropdownlist and bind parameter

    [JDeveloper 10.1.3. SU5]
    [JHeadstart 10.1.3. build 91]
    Hi,
    Some dropdown lists in our application, which are based on a dynamic dropdown list using a bind parameter (value for the parameter set in Application Definition File, property 'Query Bind Parameters', i.e. theCodeType=LANGUAGE) most of the time work fine, but sometimes (not structural, not reproducable) do not fill and throw the error "Missing IN or OUT parameter at index: 1".
    This is the case for example in LOV's with Advanced search: one of these advanced search fields uses such a dropdown. When entering the LOV, the error is sometimes raised (and the dropdown list is empty), but when you cancel and try again, it always fills successfully without error. So the mechanism works almost always, but in rare cases gives this error, but not always...and a retry always works as well.
    Sounds like a known error?

  • Dynamic report based on Parameters and a Button

    Trying to make a dynmic report based on Parameters entered.Wanted to refresh report when i click on a button say "OK" based on parameters entered.
    (1) created 2 text boxes -- Parameters --One date and other employee No
    (2) on the same page i created a report-region which id dynamic "PL/SQL Function Returning SQL Query "
    In this query i am using the parameters created in step1
    (3) Then i created a Button say "OK" .
    (4) When i enter parameters and then press OK i need to refresh my report in region defined in step2
    This refresh is not happening .
    Not sure what is missing
    I tried using branching it didn't work
    In the dynamic region it shows "No data found"
    Please help

    sachin
    1) make sure there is no Optional Redirect defined on the OK button. That is, make sure the page is really submitted.
    2) in the PL/SQL body generating the query, print out the query using htp.p() so you get to see it and test it.
    3) use the session state link in the developer toolbar in conjunction with the technique in step 2) to debug your query
    Maybe the report region is refreshing, but it just isn't returning any results.

  • Hyperion Planning dynamic forms based on start and end date across years

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement where i need to be able to view a form showing periods across years that are dynamically built depending on the start and end dates. If i have a start date of 01/11/2009 and an end date of 31/7/2013 i want to be able to view a form that shows all of the periods (Jan,Feb etc) in a form that is driven by these dates, in addition it will need to show the actual scenario up to the current month and the forecast from the current month to the end date. So basically if a user inputs the start and end dates the form will display the relevant periods driven by these dates.
    Any tips very much appreciated!

    Hello,
    This is difficult to realize, but you can get quite far with a workaround. The first question is, where do you want to input your selection of time periods? Assuming you have a webform with the complete timeline in months and years and you type in the start period and end period.
    Webforms have the option to suppress rows and columns.
    This can be extended with option of empty cells or not empty cells.
    You will need to apply your creativity on this.
    Put every month-year combination in a column and add the suppression.
    Calculate the timeline between start period and end period with a dummy member, so data exists for these and columns will show.
    Maybe you will need to copy the required timeline into a separate version for this, to avoid having periods which were outside the selection and still have data.
    I hope these hints help a bit in this challenge.

  • Dynamic Buffering Based on Bandwidth and Datarate

    I'm trying to determine an initial value for NetStream.bufferTime based on the client's calculated bandwidth and the video's bitrate.
    As far as I can tell you can't do this, because you must have an initial buffer set BEFORE you call NetStream.play() (or use the default 2 seconds) and FMS does not call NetStream.onMetaData, where one would normally find the videodatarate, until after NetStream.play() is called.
    Even if you modify NetStream.bufferTime during the onMetaData call back it doesn't effect when the video starts playing or when the NetStatus event registers "NetStatus.Buffer.Full".
    Therefore my question is:
    How do I find the Video Data Rate BEFORE I call NetStream.play?
    -Or-
    How do how do I reset the initial bufferTime before acctual play back begins and the NetStatus event fires with "NetStatus.Buffer.Full"

    I think you are right. Without playing the stream you cant decide it datarate.

  • Dynamic Flash based screensaver

    Hi there!
    We're looking at doing dynamic flash based screen savers and
    I'm looking for some ideas/suggestions on:
    1. How complex it is
    2. Best way to source the content- xml, txt, etc.
    Any help or advice you can give is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi
    Yes create a flash file that reads in an XML file from the
    server.
    Then you can use Creator to make it into a screensaver.

  • Integrating Wordpress into Muse need dynamic height based on content with cross domain

    Since Muse doesn't currently support Blogs and Wordpress integration I have decided to use an iFrame.
    My goal is to have the height of the iframe dynamically change based on the content in my Wordpress blog. I understand this is a common issue with frames that are hosted on different domains.
    I am running into having to over compensate with a bunch of deadspace to allow enough room. Alternatively I get the horrible looking scroll bar.
    I have tried using cross site scripting, JQuery and postMessage but am having trouble figuring out how to put the proper code into Muse and Wordpress for them to communicate back and forth.
    Please, any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Abhishek,
    Thanks for your reply, however, it is not working with Muse. I added the Javascript to the head section and adjusted iframe and it displays as a small square in the upper left hand corner, unable to view the whole page.
    Inserted into head section --
    <script type="text/javascript">
       function resizeIframe(obj)
      obj.style.height = 0;
      obj.style.height = obj.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight + 'px';
       </script>
    inserted as an html object --
    <iframe name="MycoSmooth" src="http://www.mycosmooth.com" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" id="iframe" onload='javascript:resizeIframe(this);' />
    Below is the result:
    The purpose is to have an independent website run the blogging capabilities, since muse doesn't directly support blogging as of yet.
    Since the site is on a different domain, I am running into cross domain issues and it won't get the height of the page. The methods that apparently work use php and I am unsure how that would work in muse, if at all.

    Hi,
           I did a similar thing, in the approach that i followed i had to do the code for saving in the BTIL class (CL_CRM_METHODS_BTIL), SAVE_ORDERS method, by creating implicit enhancement at the end, there i called my Z-Function module to save in update task, so that whole transaction gets saved at a go or nothing is saved.
    Though just display a Z-table on UI as entirely different story, but this wiki link can give some pointers.

  • Dynamic Internal Table creation and population

    Hi gurus !
    my issue refers to the slide 10 provided in this slideshow : https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/b332e090-0201-0010-bdbd-b735e96fe0ae
    My example is gonna sound dumb, but anyway: I want to dynamically select from a table into a dynamically created itab.
    Letu2019s use only EKPO, and only field MENGE.
    For this, I use Classes cl_abap_elemdescr, cl_sql_result_set and the Data Ref for table creation. But while fetching the resultset, program dumps when fields like MENGE, WRBTR are accessed. Obviously their type are not correctly taken into account by my program.
    Here it comes:
    DATA: element_ref             TYPE REF TO cl_abap_elemdescr,
          vl_fieldname               TYPE string,
                 tl_components         TYPE abap_component_tab,
                 sl_components         LIKE LINE OF tl_components_alv,
    linetype_lcl               TYPE REF TO cl_abap_structdescr,
    ty_table_type            TYPE REF TO cl_abap_tabledescr,
    g_resultset             TYPE REF TO cl_sql_result_set
    u2026
    CONCATENATE sg_columns-table_name '-' sg_columns-column_name INTO vl_fieldname.
    * sg_columns-table_name contains 'EKPO'
    * sg_columns-column_name contains 'MENGE'
    * getting the element as a component
    element_ref ?= cl_abap_elemdescr=>describe_by_name( vl_fieldname ).
    sl_components-name  = sg_columns-column_name.
    sl_components-type ?= element_ref.
    APPEND sl_components TO tl_components.
    * dynamic creation of internal table
    linetype_lcl = cl_abap_structdescr=>create( tl_components ).
    ty_table_type = cl_abap_tabledescr=>create(
                      p_line_type = linetype_lcl ).
    u2026
    * Then I will create my field symbol table and line. Code has been cut here.
    CREATE DATA dy_line LIKE LINE OF <dyn_table>.
    u2026
    * Then I will execute my query. Here itu2019s: Select MENGE From EKPO Where Rownum = 1.
      g_resultset = g_stmt_ref->execute_query( stmt_str ).
    * Then structure for the Resultset is set
      CALL METHOD g_resultset->set_param_struct
        EXPORTING
          struct_ref = dy_line.
    * Fetching the lines of the resultset  => Dumpu2026
      WHILE g_resultset->next( ) > 0.
        ASSIGN dy_line->* TO <dyn_wa>.
        APPEND <dyn_wa> TO <dyn_table>.
      ENDWHILE.
    Anyone has any clue to how prevent my Dump ??
    The component for MENGE seems to be described as a P7 with 2 decimals. And the resultset wanna use a QUAN type... or something like that !

  • How to List Sales Orders based on Creation Date and Delivery Priority

    Dear all,
    How can we list Sales Orders based on creation date and delivery priority.
    I tried using vl10a transaction code, but there we can see sales order based on delivery date.
    we need to list all sales order based on delivery priority and sales order creation date.
    can any one of you tell me which standard report gives such kind of report. Your suggestions will be highly appreciated.
    Thank you
    Raghu Ram

    Hi Raghu,
    There is no st report available as per your req.
    Using SQVI, you develope one report that is list of sales orders based on your req.
    SQVI is used to convert a Quick View into a query.
    Quick Viewer:
    The Quick Viewer allows you to define reports without having to program yourself. The Quick
    Viewer is especially useful for new users and occasional use.
    Quick Viewer is a tool for generating reports. SAP Query offers the user a whole range of options for defining reports. SAP Query also supports different kinds of reports such as basic lists, statistics, and ranked lists. Quick Viewer, on the other hand, is a tool that allows even relatively inexperienced users to create basic lists.
    Quick View definitions are user-dependent. You can transfer a Quick View into SAP Query in order to make reports, for example, accessible to additional users, or to use the other functions available in SAP Query.
    The following is a comparison of Quick Views and queries:
    Quick Views possess the same functional attributes as queries. However, only basic lists may be defined with Quick Views.
    In contrast to queries, no user group assignment is necessary with Quick Views. Each user has his/her own personal list of Quick Views. Quick Views cannot be exchanged between users. Quick Views may, however, be converted to queries and then be made available to other users in a specific user group.
    Info Sets are not required for Quick View definition. Whenever you define a Quick View, you can specify its data source explicitly. Tables, database views, table joins, logical databases, and even Info Sets, can all serve as data sources for a Quick View. You can only use additional tables and additional fields if you use an Info Set as a data source.
    The Quick Viewer uses various controls. Certain hardware and software requirements must also be fulfilled before you can use the Quick Viewer.
    To define a Quick View, you select certain fields according to your data source that determine the structure of your report. The report can be executed in basis mode with standard layout or may be edited using drag and drop and the other toolbox functions available in WYSIWYG mode.
    Reports created using the Quick Viewer may also be passed to external programs (Excel, for example).
    Call the Quick Viewer using System -> Services -> Quick Viewer (or transaction SQVI).
    Enter the name of the Quick View. Quick View names can contain a maximum of 14 characters.
    Choose Create.
    Enter a title for the Quick View and remarks, if you think they are relevant.
    If you do not want to base your list on a table, use the possible entries pushbutton in the Data source field to select another data source. You can choose logical databases or Info Sets. In addition, you may also create table joins. For further information, see Selecting a Data Source.
    Choose Basis mode if you want to create the list directly with no list design. Choose Layout mode if you want to define the layout of your list yourself.
    SQVI Table Quick viewer – Used to created quick client dependent reports
    Probably the easiest and most flexible way to do this is thru one of the ABAP query transactions.
    Transaction SQVI can do this and it has a very good help function that explains how it works... the drawback is that it is only for one user.
    You can play around with it and see if it meets your needs...
    The query results will come back in an ALV Grid or Excel... you can select what fields are returned, and have a selection screen to enter the search criteria.
    You can get the report by joining the tables VBAK and VBAP.
    If you have any queries, i will forward screen shots to your id.
    Reward points pls.

    Govind.

    Hello Sir,
    If you haven't made it at this point, this is indeed done via the Home Page Framework via the backend on the following IMG PATH:
    > Cross-Application Components
      >  Homepage Framework
    1. You make a resource available via the Role (via PCD)
    2. You customize every other part as a cascade:
    Define Area group / Headers
      -> Define Areas / Assign Area to Area Group
         -> Define Subareas / Assign subarea to Area
             -> Define Services / Assign Services to Subarea.
    Hope I have clarified.

  • Bulk Insert, Domain Based Attributes

    Hi
    I have a product model similar to the ProductSamplemodel that ships with MDS. i.e. Product Category, Product Sub Category entities. Both of these entities have been created to automatically generate a code - as a code does not exist in the business only a description.
    The product entity has both the category and sub category attributes as domain-based attributes which results in storing the code physically and also displaying the description.
    From a bulk insert scenario where the business has a number of new products that they want to add (due to a new range) I was suggesting that they use the Excel AddIn. This would allow them to cut and paste the data into the product entity. However as the category
    and sub category are domain-based Attributes they will need to know the ID – they will only know the name.
    From a MDS functionality point of view is it possible to get it to look up the code from the name?
    My current understanding on how to achieve this would mean I would need to have both code and name attributes on the Product entity for Category and Sub. The name attributes would be free text and the code attribute would be populated from a business rule.
    Downside to this approach is that you lose out on the nice dropdown pick list and the user does not know what a valid entry is as they can no longer select one.
    How is this usually implemented or handled in MDS?
    Cheers
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
    Another approach (if the one above does NOT suit you).
    Once again, as Reza suggested and  I agree with him totally, this is a job for SSIS.
    For what it's worth...
    Whilst I understand what you are trying to do, may I suggest another approach. What concerns me is users adding data willy-nilly and that YOU have no control as to what is going on. Secondly, what is more disconcerting is the thought of losing relational
    integrity, especially if you are using derived hierarchies within MDS.
    I would handle this in a different manner, using SSIS and a filesystem watcher.
    Let the users submit their spreadsheets (with their updates) to a common directory on the server. Implement a .NET FileSystemWatcher (this takes 10 minutes for a Newbie). This file system watcher will launch a DOS batch file on the arrival of a spreadsheet
    within the given directory. The DOS batch file  fires a DTS exec to start an SSIS package. This package together with SQL Server procedures will ensure that the correct codes are obtained and the attribute data is correctly inserted into the correct Entities(with
    the correct relationships).
    While this sounds vague, I do it all the time. I am more than prepared to help you get going, should wish any assistance. I KNOW that this is not the answer that you are looking for HOWEVER it is perhaps the most effective.
    sincerest regards

  • Dropdown list dynamic domain Display Settings contains no values

    Hi,
    I want to create a dynamic domain on a viewobject (RefCodesByDomain), which is not based on an entity object.
    When I test my bc4j-service everything works as expected.
    The view object has a key attribute.
    In the Application Definition Editor I am able to create a dynamic domain with the data-collection of RefCodesByDomain1 but I cannot select any attributes in the "Display Settings"-section.
    Can you give me some advise on this matter?
    Regards,
    Romano

    Steven,
    I rebuild the project. I think it has something to do with importing business components.
    What I did is the folowing:
    1. In a existing project I extended the default base-classes to create our own layer
    2. created a project called ModelShared
    2a. configured the project to use the base-classes I created in step 1
    2b. created an entitybased-viewobject (RefCodesByDomain)
    2c. created bc deployment-descriptors
    3. created a project called RelatieModel in the same workspace as ModelShared
    3a. added dependencies to the deployment-descriptors as well as the project created in step 2
    3b. configured the project to use the base-classes I created in step 1
    3c. imported business components
    Although I did not recieve any errors during the import of business components, I am unable to add the vo (RefCodesByDomain) to a service.
    I do see the package which contains the vo but is has no entries.
    Importing the business components to a new BC Project in a seperate workspace did succeed (I could reuse the vo).
    I tested a little further and the folowing occurred:
    4. I created a new vo in the ModelShared Project
    5. I deployed the ModelShared
    6. Restarted JDeveloper
    7. Got the folowing error message in the console window when expanding a service in my datacontrol pallette:

  • Is it possible to change the display value of a domain-based attribute?

    Hello,
    I've selected a domain-based attribute for one of the leaf member attributes in the same entity, aka parent id, since it's a self-referencing entity.  However, I cannot find a way to display anything but the code value in the drop-down (see below).
    Is there a way to change the display value so that I can choose the attribute from the entity from which I want the user to choose? In other words, I would like to display the hierarchy name instead of the code, which is really just the primary id.
    Thanks in advance!
    Ben Lezin

    1. In the explorer page, settings dialog, you can change the display format to show only name.
    2. We cannot use other freeform attribute as DisplayFormat, rather than Code Name. So there are 2 option here:
    a. Remove HierarchyName attribute and just use Name attribute. In the next release, we will allow give Name, Code attribute a displayname, so you can give Name display name as "HierarchyName" in the SQL Vnext release.
    b. Make a Business Rule to update Name when HierarchyName is changed.
