Dynamic IDs

I need the ability to create an ID on-the-fly. Is this
possible in Flex? I'm trying to transition some of my current apps
from Ajax to Flex, and this will be devastating blow to my efforts
if this isn't possible. Thanks.

You can change the ID of any control on the fly if it has an
ID already or, if you are creating the control progrmatically and
then adding it to a container of some sorts you can set it's ID
during creation or change it's ID afterwards.
I.E.
var label:Label = new Label();
label.id = "lblStatus";
label.text = "Control created.";
if you wanted to invoke some sort of method belonging to the
control in a different routine you could then add the control to an
array of DisplayObjects and then search it using the ID (which all
DisplayObjects have), then when a match is found cast that
particular item in the array to the appropriate type (in this
example "Label") then invoke one of the labels methods.
For example.
for each (var object:DisplayObject in objectList)
if(object.id == "lblStatus")
var label:Label = Label(object);
Alert.show(label.text);
// or Alert.show(Label(object).text);
}

  • Generating Dynamic IDs

    Hello All,
    I need to generate dynamic ids on the <h:commandLink.
    However if i put something like
    <h:dataTable id="items" value="#{FormBean.resultList}" var="listItem" >
      <h:commandLink id="#{listItem.recordId}" action="some.page" actionListener="#{someFormBean.someMethod}">
      </h:commandLink>
    </h:dataTable>it throws
    java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: #{listItem.recordId}
            at javax.faces.component.UIComponentBase.validateId(UIComponentBase.java:454)Basically, i need to generate a list of results and each row in the list should have a hyperlink which will open the row details. I was hoping to get the rowid in the actionListener method by using event.getComponent().getId().
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply. I tried doing that and couldn't get it to work. I looked at the requestMap and it shows something like the following
    subview1:subview2:_id15:_idcl=subview1:subview2:_id15:items:0:_id18
    So it does have the correct row number and items is the "id" of the datatable, however how do i get that row number using the "var" name as you suggested ?
    Moreever the component which maintains the row number --> record id mapping may be different from the component which handles the event. So i may have to add some extra logic in the event handling component to retreive the recordid, based on the row number.
    Another alternative which worked fine , was to include a param tag (containing the recordid) inside the command tag. So the event handling component can retrieve that param directly without relying on any other component. I am not sure if this is the recommended way.

  • ID attribute in JSF components

    Hello,
    I have a question about the id attribute on JSF 2 components.
    The document says, that it should be a String. Does that mean
    String constant or could it also be a el-expression resulting to a String.
    Actually I can use el-expression for id, but am not sure because of the documentation.
    Any infos about that would be great!

    Well, I stick with documentation. This is a specification. That means other iplementations like Apache myFaces
    will also stick to the documentation not for current mojorra implementation or others.
    That means, an implementation must not evaluate an el-expression. We ar here talking about evaluationg an
    el-expression and the documentation says, that id must not evaluate el-expressions. At least thats what i understand.
    So when i use mojorra and use el-expressions fpr id and change to apache implementation of jsf, i might be
    not working.
    Also i would get same result, if mojorra implementation someday does not evaluate el-expressions.
    So it is very important for me and i guess for JSF to clear this point cause it is important for development.
    One of the posters above mentioned it, is it possible to set dynamic ids for components or not.
    I always read that it is not wanted. Ids will be generated. But you can give a component an constant id.
    Like you can easy read in the documentation.
    You are interpreting the documentation. But JSF is a specification and should not let room for interpretations.
    If el-expressions are allowed it should be it should be documented.
    By the way, I think in apache implementation of JSF, el-expressions for id is not allowed.
    See here:
    http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg20800.html
    So this implementation does exactly what documentation is saying so for me, mojorra implementation has here a bug!

    How do I specify dynamic IDs in the constructor?

    I'm not sure I follow. Both of these examples have static
    IDs. My example has a potentially unlimited number of widgets (one

    the constructor?

  • 10g - with CSS - browser issues

    HTML Skins and HTML Content Templates using CSS.
    Finally got the page exactly how I want it .... in Explorer.
    Go to Firefox and Safari and it is an absolute mess with half the portlets missing and the hover menus rendering as lists, etc. Don't even know where to begin to get at least a fair representation in these browsers.
    Any clues please?
    Thanks

    I got the solution if you want to FULL customise with NO LIMITS your search portlet.
    Warning : it is not thebest way to do it, but it works quiclky.
    step 1 : create a page with your portlet configured as you want (page grousp, search results, etc ....)
    step 2 : open the page in your browser and disaply the HTML code
    step 3 : copy/paste the HTML code in a HTML portlet
    step 4 : manage the HTML code as you want.
    It's a very sad but you can do what you want with the look and feel.
    An alternative solution is to generate this portlet through JAVA or PL/SQL so that you can get dynamically ids of pages groups, pages, item types ......
    The last solution (and it is the one I'm currently doing) is to developp your own search portlet. I'm doing this since 5 days and I'm beginning to see good results.
    For information I am at 1600 PL/SQL code lines and still working on it.
    Hope that helps.

  • Anychart bar graphs - Can we map colors to customer IDs in JSON/XML dynamically?

    Hi,
    We are using the Anychart bar graphs to show our customers data. We need to be able to map colors to customer IDs, so that anytime we use a bar chart a customer will aways be the same color.
    Example: if one view shows 3 customers  (cust ABC is maroon, XYZ is yellow and DXA is blue) and a second view, because of the data, shows 12 customers, that if 2 that are in the first view are also showing they would have the same colors as they did in the first view (cust ABC is still maroon and cust DXA is still blue and if XYZ is not in the second view then Yellow would not be present)
    Is there a way to map the colors to the customers in an XREF table then build the JSON or XML dynamically and use that in the graph each time?
    I have found the Anychart site and it looks like it is possible but was wondering if anyone has done it? Otherwise it looks like it is going to be to time consuming to read everything I would have to read.
    Thank you,

  • Dynamic proxy, several instances, same name, diff ids?

    I'm using a dynamic proxy with a simple invocation handler. Using the proxy for several instances of the target object should yield multiple instances of the proxy. In the debugger, each proxy instance is named $proxy0 with different ids. Can someone please elaborate on this? Specifically, the Proxy instance is created using the target object. Thus, how can each proxy instance have the same name, when different target objects (of the same type though) are used to construct the Proxy object? Is the Proxy instance the same regardless of the target object?
    I : interface
    T: target class
    pseudo thing:
    <code>
    T t1, t2, t3 ... new ...
    I i1 = (I) Proxy.newInst...(..., ..., t1)
    I i2 = (I) Proxy.newInst...(..., ..., t2)
    I i3 = (I) Proxy.newInst...(..., ..., t3)
    Each i has name $proxy0 with different id. For instance: i1-> $proxy0 id=68, i2 ->$proxy0 id= 32, etc.
    </code>
    Insight is appreciated!

    is it the same proxy that is instantiated three times (obviously)?It is the same proxy class that is instantiated three times. Obviously. Because that is the only meaning for 'instantiate' in Java.
    But how can that be when the target object for each Proxy instance is different?Because they are three different instances of the same class, each with a different target object.
    What's the problem here?

  • QTP and dynamically generated object ids

    Hello,
    Our application generates Object tags and their attributes dynamically once JSP pages gets loaded in the browser. QTP does not recognize any user actions in this case (Of course all swf files got compiled with automation libraries).

    Hi Ashley,
    I think that the simplest thing to do is to instantiate 3 drop-down components in the initialisation section of your custom component and add these 3 drop-downs as children --> yourComp.addChild(...);
    This way you shouldn't have to code any of the encodeXX(..)
    hope this helps.

  • Allocating seats with dynamic adobe ids. Is it possible?

    I have a question about the creative cloud for teams admin console and licensing. We are a student tv station and have many users each with their own adobe ids but only 5 edit machines in our studio. We would like to get licenses for each of these 5 machines but let any one of our many members log into one of these 5 machines at any one time.
    Is this possible?
    Basically we would like to purchase 5 seats but leave them empty and have them automatically allocated when a user logs in, and deallocated after a user logs out.
    If this is not possible is it required for a user to login with an adobe id to use any of the applications? Can we just buy 5 seats with one adobe account, register each machine with that, and then let users use it without having to be logged in. We don't need the cloud storage or preferences saving.
    Thanks

    Hi TomJ123,
    In Creative Cloud for Team Subscription the user has to sign in using their Adobe Id's on which you have sent the invitation(in this situation your Members Adobe Id). The Registered user can login to any computer using their Adobe Id and when done then logout so the other user can login using their Adobe Id.
    Hope this answers your query.

  • Dynamic Connection Pool Creation Failing in a cluster

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a connection pool in a clustered environment. This connection
    pool is created lazily behind a Stateless Session Bean. We first attempt to determine
    whether, the connection pool exists using JdbcServices.poolExists(someName), and

    like the connection pool might have been created by a bean on a different weblogic

    it visible to the whole cluster? Thanks in advance for any help. Michael Dolbear

    The only way to do it is using MBeans. You could search this newsgroup
    for "JDBCConnectionPoolMBean" to get an idea of how it could be done.

    Slava,
    I am working with Mike on this issue and wanted to add some moreclarifications.
    We have a two server cluster where one of the EJB's on one of the Managedservers
    creates the connection pool. The problem comes in when a request comes tothe
    second server in the cluster. The connection pool is created by the firstserver
    but it is only assigned to the first server in the targets section on theconsole.
    It isn't assigned to the cluster. Is there a way to programmaticallyassign the
    pool to the cluster instead of just the server that created the pool?

    Hi Michael,
    Could you show us the code? Without looking at the code
    I can only say that JdbcServices.poolExists(someName)
    returns true only in case the pool is up and running.
    If the connection pool MBean was created but not assigned
    a target, subsequent tries to create it would fail.

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a connection pool in a clustered environment.This
    connection
    pool is created lazily behind a Stateless Session Bean. We first
    attempt
    to determine
    whether, the connection pool exists usingJdbcServices.poolExists(someName), and
    create it if it does not exist. A failure occurs on creation becauseit
    looks
    like the connection pool might have been created by a bean on a
    different
    weblogic
    VM instance. Is there any way to dynamically create a connection pooland
    make
    it visible to the whole cluster? Thanks in advance for any help.

    Thank You,

    Where are you stuck? find the component (UIComponent.findComponent) in the JSF component tree by its ID and get the value from it. This article might help:
    http://illegalargumentexception.blogspot.com/2009/02/jsf-working-with-component-ids.html
    Note: the code tag is \
