Dynamic Pictures using Graphic Location function

I am using VS 2003 and CR 2008
I have a report that shows a map of the site. Depending on what site the report is ran for I want it to show a different image.
I am using an OLE Object and setting the Graphic location to:
"http://www.datascopeplc.com/DeliveriesAdmin/Maps/" + ToText ({DS.SiteID},0 ,"") + ".jpg"
Where SiteID is the name of the image.
This works fine when I am testing it in local host but when I place it on the server the image doesnu2019t show. I replaced the path with the local path e.g.
D:\DeliveriesAdmin\Maps\" + ToText ({DS.SiteID},0 ,"") + ".jpg"
This worked but the problem is when I move it to the live server the images wont be held there so I need to use the first path.
Any help would be great.

I have tried this on both the live server and the test server and both servers can access the URL. Any more thoughts?

"Graphics Location" functionality not working in CR2008, using SP1 Runtime

I'm using Crystal Reports 2008 SP1 (BuildVersion=12.1.0.883.CR_Mira_RTM). In some of my reports I'm setting the graphic location to a web address. On my development machine this all works fine.
On my production server I've installed the SP1 Runtime Version (CRRuntime_12_1_mlb.msi)
and am running the reports via a Dot Net application. The images are not updating with the image from the web location.
If I then install Crystal Reports 2008 SP1 on that machine, without making any other changes, the images start to update with the image from the web location.
Can anybody tell me which DLL is being used to grab the image from the web so I can include it in my deployment package? Or can somebody tell me how to get the Graphic Location functionality to work with the Runtime version.
NOTE: During installation of the Runtime version, it prompts me for a Product ID. I can install the runtime if I leave it blank. I've tried that. I also tried just putting garbage in there and the error message comes back saying it's an invalid product KEY. So I've installed using my Crystal Reports 2008 Product key as well. Still no luck.

The product key is not coming into play I this case. Having said that, I am not sure what the issue may be, however you may be able to track down the dll by using the following utilities:
1) Modeules.exe, which can be downloaded from here:

2) Process Monitor, which can be downloaded from here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
Modules will allow you to compare the dlls on a server that has CRW32.exe and a system that had only the runtime. Process Monitor, may report a missing dll in it's logs.
Now, while it may be useful to find out the above, this being a web app typically means you need to install it on a limited number of servers, possibly just one? Since it is working now, it may be worth considering the ROI on figuring out the runtime(?). E.g.; it may not be worth the effort? If licensing is the worry, simply delete the CRW32.exe and you've eliminated the issue.

Graphic Location/OLE Bug?

Iu2019m using Crystal 2008 (fully patched) and Visual Studio .Net 2003
We upgraded to Crystal 2008 as we specifically needed to dynamically load images into reports.
Iu2019ve encountered a problem that causes both the report designer and my application to crash.
We have a directory that contains over 70,000 passport size photographs uploaded from various sources. The report selects a number of these based on a URL thatu2019s constructed from within the procedure that feeds the report.
Iu2019ve tracked this problem down for one jpg image although there could be any number in the directory, as having run the report with different parameters Itu2019s hit and miss as to whether or not it works.
I can view this image in all sorts of other applications such as IE, Paint Programs, and previous versions of Crystal with no problem.
If I insert it as a picture (ole object) in crystal 2008 it interprets the pixel size as being cm which results in an image of 670 x 957 cm which is clearly wrong. Worst still if I link to this image via the graphic location and refresh the report I get crw32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close which it promptly does.
When running from within a .Net application Iu2019ve had out of memory and division by 0 errors which Iu2019m assuming are down to the fact that the report is misinterpreting the image size.

Hi - after a bit more investigation I wrote a small application to scan the directories to try and identify the corrupt files although this doesn't really help me in the long term as these directories are added to as and when and the scan takes hours so it isn't really a viable option and Iu2019m still getting other errors that I canu2019t track down.
There are three 'types' of corrupt jpg's Iu2019ve tracked so far which Iu2019ve tested in the designer. Examples can be found at previous URL:

Using service Locator pattern to dynamically access remote EJBs

Hi All,
Please help to guide me how I can use a service locator to retrieve a remote object (residing on another application but on same domain) .
I do not want to use Dependency Injection since I want to dynamically discover them ( there are many implementations of same interface (POJO)). Each EJB implementation implements its own remote/local interface that extends this global POJO interface.
I have two J2ee-Applications on same domain. J2EE-Application 1 has an EJB module (EJB Module 1) that intends to access an EJB Module (EJB Module 2) in J2EE-Application 2. Following observations:
1. Dependency Injection fails if (include the EJB Module 2 jar in J2EE-Application 1). Reason App Server complains the EJB has been deployed (Deployment fails)
2. Dependency Injection works if (exclude the EJB Module 2 jar in J2EE-Application 1) and include the Remote Interface in EJB Module 1(J2EE-Application 1).Positive Observation (Deployment success and DI also success)
3.Using Service Locator to retrieve the remote object if (exclude the EJB Module 2 jar in J2EE-Application 1) and include the Remote Interface in EJB Module 1(J2EE-Application 1). Negative and Positive Observation.
Positive Observation: Using dependency injection I can still retrieve the Remote Object
Another Positive: The Service Locator remote lookup to another Bean in same Application but different EJB Module is successful.
Negative Observation:
The Service Locator lookup to this same remote object with Successful Dependency Injection fails (An Ejb in a different application).
Can't retrieve the Remote Object with Service Locator. Message from Server:.
NoInitialContextException: Need to specify class name in environment or system property, or as an applet parameter, or in an application resource file: java.naming.factory.initial.

If you're calling ejbs from other ejbs or servlets, the same could probably be acomplished by using dependency injection (@EJB) in a number of instance variables typed with different remote/local interfaces or even with different beanName attributes (for when more than one bean implements the same managed interface in the same app - not sure how it works outside the same jee app...) , and dinamically selecting one of them; or encapsulating those injected variables into a stateless ejb as your service locator to make them accessible from POJOs too (which, due to concurrent acess, wouldn't work for statefull ejbs references...).
Anyway, using the jndi lookup service locator pattern seems ok in this case.
What doesn't seem ok, given the nature of the error for the negative observation - jndi context initialization - is that

Can you check your code and reconfirm that you're using the same context initialization code for both the positive and negative observations ?

How to use Advance java function in graphical mapping in XI 2.0?

Hi,
currently I am using a simple java function to make an RFC call to R3 system.
I want to avoid making connection for each lookup. Instead I want to make a single connection for whole message queue and get the corresponding values in some array or container object.
please suggest a solution.
I think this is possible using Advance java function, but I am not able to find any example on using Advance java function at help.sap.com.

I'm not sure if I understood you well.
Do you want to preload some data into your structures in the memory and keep them there so you don't need to make a new connection during processing the whole message or every message?
In my opinion you can cache some data during processing a message, but it's impossible to cache some data between processing messages.
If you write your java mapping or you use graphical mapping (even with user-defined function), then you have a java class. The problem is that XI 2.0 reloads this class during processing every message, so even if you load some data from your data source into your structures in the memory, this data will be lost after reloading your mapping class.

In photoshop elements 6, as far as i know, you can only change the Reference Point Location for transforms using the small grid in the left hand corner of the tool options bar with Transform enabled.

It mentions "loss" NOT theft. you cannot find a mention of theft protection. Find my iphone is NOT theft protection and has never been advertised as such.

Using the "V" function in dynamic queries

I have a report region using 'pl/sql function body returning query'. It uses 'return package.function;'. The function makes extensive use of the "V" function to read session state.
If I have a predicate like
if (something) then
q:=q||'
and some_column=v(''P1_ID'')
end if;
When the query is parsed, this gets translated to
and some_column=v('P1_ID')
Question: Is the v('P1_ID') treated like a bind variable similar to the sys_context() concept? So it is evaluated just once per query and the value is plugged into the query. It is NOT evaluated for every row returned by the query, right?
I am pretty sure thats the way it works, just wanted someone to confirm it.

v() is a function, no differently than any other PL/SQL function you would employ in SQL. The way you have composed your query, it would be evaluated for every row.
A simple example to show this:

CR IX R2 Graphic Location not working with VS 2005

I have a folder that has a few thousand part images.
I created a report in CR IX R2 development and I have an image in my report that changes based on a part number parameter and it works great. If you r-click on an image, choose Format Graphic, click the Picture tab and at the bottom there is an X-2 formula button. I placed my image path and other info need to dynamically change based on the part number.
Looks like this : "C:\PartImages\" & {@PartImage} & ".tif"
The formula {@PartImage} is this: Left ({?PartNo},4)
When I add my report to my VB.net project I loose the feature and I think its because the version of crystal reports is older then the one I used to design my report and its not supported.
If I open the report with in VS2005, I don't have that option or see anything that would help me do this.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I have CR XI r2 installed on the same server as VS2005, this is how I can see that new feature for the graphic location.
My reference assemblies are version 10.2.3600 if VS2005.
Is there anyway to change what version of the Assemblies are in VS2005 to use the CR IX R2? How do I ensure .net to use the 11.5 ones and not the 10.2?

Dynamic Picture/Image Not Working

CR XI R1 - I believe it is the most recet service pack available (4?)
VBScript is being used to query the database and provide the recordset data to the crystal report via a data definition file. All other data displays properly on the report.
The 'placeholder' image is one that says 'image not found'. It "should" be getting replaced at runtime with the dynamic image specified in the graphic location formula but it is not and the image always remains the same.
In the graphics location I have tried in multiple ways to enter a path with a http:// reference, a file:// reference, a local drive C: reference, and a reference relative to the report's current directory on the server.
Nothing seems to work.
Could someone help me understand the requirements of the graphics location field in crystal reports in order for it to dynamically locate the file at run time.?
My current assumption is that the graphics location requires a path in text form (surrounded in quotes) to an image file to be returned. I also am assuming it doesn't matter when the graphics location field evaluates itself relative to other fields/formulas - especially if the path is static.
I should note that a static path entered and print previewed does switch the picture.

Please disregard. I believe I have solved the issue. The crystal reports viewer on the server was version 9, not 11. Changing it to 11 appears to have resolved the issue.

Displaying a dynamic image using a PDF file.

I am trying to find a way to display an image dynamically in my report. The image happens to be .pdf I have Crystal Reports XI and I have the graphic location formula completed "
10.93.138.250\Production\ProdOut\00\" & {Order_Record.URN_text} + "_p1.pdf" however it tells me PDF is not supported. Is there a way around this?

I have to agreed that what you are saying appears to be true from my attempts at getting .pdf files to work dynamically. Using .bmp and .jpg files seems to work just fine but not .pdf, .xls, or .doc.
In the Users Guide, in chapter 16, in the section titled "Working with static OLE objects" - it only talks about the picture type formats you mentioned and metafiles. Later in this section is where it explains how to make a static OLE object dynamic.
While it doesn't specifically say it won't work for other types - it sure doesn't seem to. I see no reason why this should be true however! Certainly Crystal appears to be set up to allow this and the fact that the objects are not images shouldn't matter. Why is there a picture tab and a conditional formula button next to the graphic location label on the object if it can't be used?
I'm trying to do something similiar to Carey. I have maps to customers in a customer list and they are in .pdf files. The location of the map is stored in the database. I'm putting together a report of service calls and I want to print the map with each call. It looks like I'll have to convert several thousand .pdf files to .jpg - that should be fun!
Any chance this limitation will be eliminated sometime soon...

What Intel video card do you have? The only Intel HD graphics cards officially supported by Photoshop CC are:

Use of Call Function Node vi, with char type pointer

I want to be able to use a certain function from C++ DLL, and I followed the TOOLS>>IMPORT>>SHARED LIBRARY(.dll) wizard. Where I located my header file and the dll file.
However i am getting an error (1097). This is the function with the paramaters:
void Function_Name(unsigned char *L, unsigned char *H, unsigned in Len, unsigned char Adr);
I don't think, that I configured my Call Function Node, correctly. How should i set the paramaters settings of the first 2? I have tried Numeric, unsigned (and signed) Int (32, 16), pass pointer value. to accomodate the first two varaibles.
Please someone help, what should I do to accomodate the unsigned char pointers, so that I can used the function in labVIEW?

The error you're encountering has the following description (I'm sure you've already looked this up-posting here for clarity for other readers):
LabVIEW: An exception occurred within the external code called by a Call Library Function Node. This might have corrupted LabVIEW's memory. Save any work to a new location and restart LabVIEW.
Typically, this happens for one of just a few reasons:
Memory was overwritten (e.g. you passed a buffer of N bytes, but N+X bytes were modified, and an exception was thrown.
A bad pointer was passed. (This is probably not the case.)
Arguments were not passed to the function properly. (Calling conventions)
Function wasn't called from the proper thread.
Some other reason (only can be determined by inspecting in a debugger).
I've attached some pictures of how I'd configure the dialog, but there are two critical things you have to know: calling conventions and thread safety. Those are things defined by the DLL. In Windows, C vs. 'Standard' (a.k.a. Pascal) calling conventions MUST be correct, as they affect how arguments are passed on the stack. If this is wrong, then, for example, where arg1 is expected to be an unsigned char *, you may actually only pass an unsigned char. Dereferencing that number as a pointer will at best crash, at worst appear to be a valid address and silently corrupt memory.
I suggest double-checking the calling conventions. 'stdcall' is still quite common, but not the default setting in the Call Library Function dialog.

Crystal report could not show dynamic picture

I develop crystal report which show dynamically picture in my PC but when I send it to server which has not be installed program just install asp.net framework 2.0 , it could not show dynamic picture.
How should I do, please advise.

I develop the report by using Crystal Reports XI so that I have to install the runtime of them as the detail in page of business object located at Business Objects - Crystal Reports Runtime Packages.mht
Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET 2005 - Service Pack 1 (Updated Nov. 2007) will not show dynamic picture, right
I have to install Crystal Reports XI - Service Pack 4 (Updated - November 2007) becuase it has more features than the package in VS2005 right
