Dynamic population of a form using Struts

Right now I have a combo box and a textbox. My combo box is populated by:
<html:select property="departmentName" onchange="changeDescription()">
  <html:options collection="departmentList" property="name" labelProperty="name"/>
</html:select>My textbox is declared as:
<html:text property="description"/>Ok so my problem now is coding that changeDescription() javascript method so that whenever a change in the combo box's selection is made, the textbox will be populated by another property "description". I can easily make the textbox populate with the same property "name" by using this:
function changeDescription() {
  document.forms[0].description.value = document.forms[0].departmentName.value;
}but how do I do it for another property?
I would greatly appreciate any help! Thanks!

I'm a bit confused by the question. Are you saying that you want the textbox to automatically update it's value everytime the combo box's currently selected item is changed. And you want the value assigned to the textbox to come from some place other than the value of the currently selected combobox item. Where should the value for the textbox come from? Looking at this it seems like you may want a simple map data structure that maps each combo box element to a description string. When the combo box is modified you should grab the currently selected element and lookup the description for that element in the map data structure and then set the textbox to the looked-up description. I may be missing something here..

  • Dynamically populating a PDF form?

    I've created a form in InDesign that I use in my daily work -- it has several fields that hold information about issues I'm currently working on.  This information comes from a proprietary in-house system that I have access to via JDBC, SQL, language bindings, etc.  I would like to take my InDesign document, create a PDF form with it, and then have new PDFs automatically generated with the data provided by our own database.  I can handle 90% of this, but the Adobe end of it is confusing and (frankly) a bit frustrating.
    I can make a static PDF from InDesign just fine, but how can I create a PDF that is meant to be populated at a later time using external data?  I can put it any format - XML, CSV, whatever you want.  I just don't want to have to launch InDesign every time I want to print a new form.  Launching Acrobat would be fine, if not optimal -- at least in Acrobat I don't have to be careful not to mess up the source document.
    I would love it if Adobe provided a way (outside of LifeCycle - I don't have the money for that) to automate this entirely within CreativeCloud, but I am more than competent with outside programming environments if that's going to be required.
    Can anyone give me some direction with this?

    Irosenth,
    Thanks for the response.  I'm going with option 2.  For anyone finding this question in the future, here's the tutorial video to create an interactive PDF from InDesign:

  • Dynamically population of variables with use of variants in I Broadcasting

    Hi all,
    In broadcasting I have to include few reports.
    Suppose one report is having variable screen where 5 mandatory variable are there. Here one variable is 0calday suppose which has to be filled dynamically.
    Is it possible by using variant.
    If yes please send step by step process and if not what could be the other method?
    Am using BW 3.5.
    Thanks,
    Uday.

    Hi Uday,
    To achieve this,you can create one more variant with the specific variable values (which ever you want) and pass it during broadcasting.
    The step by step process for Broadcasting with variant is...
    With 7.x Tools:
    1.Open a report(workbook) in a tool(Eg:BEx Analyzer) and invoke Broadcaster(Tools->BEx Broadcaster...)
    2.Click "Create New Setting"
    3.Distribution Type "Broadacast to Email" and Output Format as "MS Excel Workbook" (This depends on your own need)
    4.Update the "Recipient" and "Text" tab details
    5.Click "Workbook Precalculation" tab and Select the variant for the Variable Assignment
    6.Select the Precalculcation Server
    7.Save the Setting and Click "Execute"
    This will send a report mail to the mentioned receipient based on the selected variant through Precalculation Server

  • Merging of cells of a dynamic table in adobe form

    Hi,
    I am trying to Merge 2 columns in a dynamic table in adobe form.The requirement is to merge column 3 and column 4 if column 4 is empty. I used the below javascript code in both "Form ready " and Initialize event of the row.
    if (this.Cell4.rawValue == " ")
    this.Cell3.colSpan = "2";
    this.Cell4.presence = "hidden";
    Note : Since above code was not working , i used the below code in my subform also but it did not returned desired output.
    if(Table22.Row1.Cell1.rawValue == " ")
    Table22.Row1.Cell3.colSpan = "2";
    Table22.Row1.Cell4.presence = "hidden";
    The problem is that in my dynamic table , its the second row where the requirement is fulfilled ie in the 2nd entry of my table the column4 is blank (the exact row number might change depending on input data).
    is there a way to loop in the dynamic table and check if column 4 is empty for a particular row.
    the above code does not help to fulfill my requirements. kindly help.

  • Need help on Dynamic SQL Cursor in Forms

    Hi All,
    I am trying to execute Dynamic SQL Cursor in forms using EXEC_SQL built in.
    I have a cursor for example:
    'select * from supplier where supplier = '||p_supplier||' and processing_order = '||p_order
    My code is
    cur_num := Exec_SQL.Open_cursor;
    sql_order := 'select * from supplier where supplier = '||p_supplier||' and processing_order = '||p_order;
    EXEC_SQL.PARSE(cursor_number, sql_order);
      EXEC_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(cur_num ,1,ln_Supp_Id);
      EXEC_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(cur_num ,2,ls_Suppl_Name,30);
    EXEC_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(cur_num ,24,ls_exchange,20);
      sql_count := EXEC_SQL.EXECUTE(cur_num );
      While EXEC_SQL.FETCH_ROWS(cur_num ) > 0 Loop
            EXEC_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE(cur_num ,1,ln_Supp_Id);
            EXEC_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE(cur_num ,2,ls_Suppl_Name);
            EXEC_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE(cur_num ,24,ls_exchange);
    End Loop;
    EXEC_SQL.CLOSE_CURSOR(cur_num );
    In this case I have to write 24 Define Columns and 24 Column value. Is there any way to assign them to %rowtype at one time as I need all coulmn of the table.
    I had similar case on multiple tables.
    Please help me
    Thanks,
    Maddy

    I need this dynamic sql because p_supplier and p_order values changes at run time
    I do not understand. Is this a simplified sample or the real thing? You do know that you can pass variables to cursors:
    cursor test is
    select * from supplier where supplier = p_supplier and processing_order = p_order;
    or does e.g. p_supplier hold other parts of the query?
    cheers

  • Dynamic forms in struts

    Hi,
    I have a pretty difficult problem that I don't know how to solve using struts. I need to generate dynamic surveys from a database. The structure of the survey can be different for every different user. I really want to use the struts Form classes but I'm not sure how to do this. The only way I can think of is messy...
    For every new type of survey generated from the database...
    1. Generate a new class definition for the struts Form object and compile that.
    2. Every struts Action class that interacts with the new dynamic Form classes will need to use reflection on the dynamic Form object to be able to pull all of the data from that form.
    I'm sure there are many web sites where forms are dynamically generated and I would think this problem has already been solved. Does anyone out there have any ideas?

    Try to follow this way:
    1 provide actions chain in your configuration file like this:
             <form-bean
                  name="addFlatForm"
                  type="app.owner.forms.AddFlatForm">
                </form-bean>
            <action
                 path="/InitAddFlatForm"
                 type="app.owner.actions.InitAddFlatFormAction"
                 attribute="addFlatForm"
                 validate="false"
                 parameter="owner.extendedplace;place;/pages/AddFlat.jsp">
            </action>
            <!-- "/pages/AddFlat.jsp" - jsp page with html:form on it-->
            <action
                 path="/AddFlatForm"
                 type="app.owner.actions.AddFlatAction"
                 name="addFlatForm"
                 validate="true"
                 input="/pages/AddFlat.jsp">
                 <forward
                      name="success"
                      path="/shortinfo/Welcome.do"></forward>
            </action>2 first action(InitAddFlatFormAction) will be "prepare" action, where you must create new instance of the ActionForm descendant with Map, List, array etc definition. where your dynamic fields will be located , and fill the keys value from your database.
    public class InitAddFlatFormAction extends Action{
         public ActionForward execute(ActionMapping mapping, ActionForm form,
                HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response){
              //obtain parameters
              String[] params = ActionHelper.parseParameter(mapping, 3, Constants.PARAMETER_SEPARATOR);
              //get extended place from session attribute
              ExtendedPlace currPlace = (ExtendedPlace)ServletUtils.getAttribute(
                        request, params[0], ServletUtils.SESSION_SCOPE);
              //create form if form == null
             if (form == null) {
                  System.out.println("InitAddFlatFormAction::execute method: create new instance of action form.");
                  //create new form instance
                  form = new AddFlatForm(new HashMap<String, Object>());
                  //set form to selected scope attribute
                if ("request".equals(mapping.getScope()))
                     ServletUtils.setAttribute(request,
                               form, mapping.getAttribute(), ServletUtils.REQUEST_SCOPE);   //just set the value to selected scope
                else
                     ServletUtils.setAttribute(request,
                               form, mapping.getAttribute(), ServletUtils.SESSION_SCOPE);   //just set the value to selected scope
             //fill the form
             AddFlatForm flatForm = (AddFlatForm) form;
             flatForm.setValue(params[1], currPlace);
             return URIUtils.forwardAction(params[2]);
         }3 second action(AddFlatAction) will be "process" action. This action can be used when your data are successful validated.
    //any your actions4 form bean(ActionForm desctndant)
    public class AddFlatForm extends ActionForm{
         public AddFlatForm(Map<String, Object> map){
              super();
              //check input arguments
              AssertHelper.notNullIllArg(map);
              setMap(map);
         private Map<String, Object> map = null;
         public void setMap(Map<String, Object> map) {
              this.map = map;
         public Map<String, Object> getMap() {
              return this.map;
         public void setValue(String key, Object value){
              getMap().put(key,value);
         public Object getValue(String key){
              return getMap().get(key);
        public ActionErrors validate(ActionMapping mapping,
                HttpServletRequest request) {
            return (null);
    }And than in your jsp page you can use something like this:
    <%@ taglib uri="/tags/struts-html" prefix="html" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" prefix="c" %>
                                            <c:set var="placeId">
                                                 <bean:write name="extPlace" property="placeInfo.id"/>
                                            </c:set>

  • Dynamically populating form -

    I need to make a dynamically populating form - I cannot find the instruction - is there a video on adobe tv? Please help me - I am desperate. Thanks a lot! K_S_

    Hi..
    I think you can do it with ADF .When you click field1 in your form get the value to bean using serverListner.And create method in AMImpl to filter records from TableB by passing your field1 value.make sure to add client interface to this filter method(clientInterface in yourAM.xml) and add it to page using bindings to as methodAction.Then you can show filtered TableB using popoup.

    I have an XML file a result of the XSLT transformation. A schema was created based on this XML and this schema is bound to a form as a data source.  When I preview my form using a Preview tab with transformed XML as a Data File in LiveCycle Designer 8.1, I can see only the first form data across 3 Text fields on the form. The rest of the forms are not getting displayed. What am I doing wrong?

  • With a PDF Dynamic form using show/hide actions, how to ensure that when the completed form is saved, closed and re-opened, the form still show the fields as before it was closed?

    With a PDF Dynamic form using show/hide actions, how to ensure that when the completed form is saved, closed and re-opened, the form still show the fields as before it was closed?
    I have developed a form with fields hidden by default, that become visible based on box ticked or radio button selections.
    My problem is that, when I close the form and re-open it, it comes back to it's default presentation, regardless of the information already recorded in the form (including in the now hidden fields.
    How to correct that
    Thanks in advance for any hint you can provide.

    I've had the same problem. This solved it...
    Go to the "Form properties..." in the File-menu. Select "Run-time" to the left and in the box "Scripting" Preserve scripting changes to form when saved: choose Automatically (Script-based state changes are saved locally in an insecure fashion. This option cannot be used for certified forms).
    Hope it works for you to...

    I have been trying to creating a MD form using dynamic page and I haven't fiqured it out. I need help. You both advised me on creating a simple form using dynamic page. The complexity changes drastically when I have to create a MD form. Has no body ever tried to create a MD form with dynamic page?
    I haven't heard from you anything either. I am stuck with this and I need help urgently. Would you kindly tell me if this is possible and how ? Otherwise, I will stop crying for help on this.
    Thanks for your kind attention.

  • Saving dynamically populated pdf forms

    We have forms developed in Live Cycle that are dynamically populated.
    We have extended these forms in Acrobat so that users may save them with the pre-populated data.
    Our issue is that the user must manipulate the form in some manner, such as changing a field, in order for it to be saved with the pre-populated data.
    Is there a way we can enable the user to simply open the form that has been dynamically populated and save it with this data simply by doing a "Save As"?
    Thanks in advance for any help offered~
    ~Chris

    > So, it appears that a server product is necessary to utilize and activate Reader Rights for users... Is this correct?
    No. Acrobat Pro 8 and 9 can activate certain rights, such as saving, which is what you said you did in your original post.
    Like I said earlier, the problem you're experiencing is odd, and may be related to the way the form was created in LiveCycle Designer or the way in which you are populating the form with data. If I were you, I would pose this question in a Designer-related forum. Include the details related to how the form is being dynamically populated. It would also be helpful to be able to look at a document in question.

  • ADOBE Form Using Table with dynamic number of rows

    Hi All
    First some information about our infrastructure:
    - AdobeDesigner 7.1 in the Developerstudio
    - SAP-Portal 7.0 SP15
    I have a View with tabstrips and behind the tabs i have defined an event. On one Tab I included a ADOBE-Form with Table. The Data for the PDF sould only filled in the context for the Form when i jump to this Tab. I created the Form by using this documentation [https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/e0859ad1-53aa-2a10-78ae-99e41c407669].
    To fill the tablecontext I use the following Code:
    IPrivateAnlegenBANFView.IPositionenElement position = null;
    IPrivateAnlegenBANFView.IPositionenNode posNode = wdContext.nodePositionen();
    int NUM_5_TIMES = 5;
    for (int i = 0; i < NUM_5_TIMES; i) {
    IPrivateAnlegenBANFView.IPositionenElement posElement = wdContext.createPositionenElement();
    +posElement.setMaterial("" + i);+
    +posElement.setKurztext("Test" + i);+
    +posElement.setWarengruppe("Warengr" + i);+
    posNode.addElement(posElement);
    If i put this code in the wdDoInit method it  works fine and shows me 5 Rows. But if I put the code in the Action of the tabstrip it shows me only one row. I checked the entries of the context and there are 5 entries (showed them in a WD-Table).
    Can someone tell me what im doing wrong?
    Thanks for a answer and kind regards

    Hi All
    finally i found the solution for the problem.
    When you define the interactive Form in the view do not define the property "dataSource" of UI-Element Interactive Form it seems, that the binding is static and not dynamic.
    Add the following source to the viewCotroller
    Global Part of the Source:
    private static IWDInteractiveForm form = null;
    Method wdDoModify:
    if (firstTime) {
      form = (IWDInteractiveForm) view.getElement("InteractiveForm");
    When you have an Event where you fill your Contextnode which you want to display in the table of an Adobe Form Use this code:
    Action:
    public void onActionFillTab(com.sap.tc.webdynpro.progmodel.api.IWDCustomEvent wdEvent ){
      //@@begin onActionFillTab(ServerEvent)
         * Code to fill the Node for AdobeForm Table
        form.bindDataSource(wdContext.nodeTabelle().getNodeInfo());
      //@@end
    If you want to clear your table and show it directly use in the action the following code:
    wdContext.nodeTabelle().invalidate();
    form.bindDataSource(wdContext.nodeTabelle().getNodeInfo());
    Kind regards
