Dynamically adding to PDF after applying Extended Reader Rights

All,
I've created a PDF with a digital signature in Acrobat X Pro and applied the extended Reader rights. What I am trying (and failing) to do now is add new pages to the PDF via a Java library (BFO) on a server. When a user eventually brings up the PDF in Reader, they receive a warning about how the extended rights have been revoked since the PDF has been modified. Is there any way to maintain the rights while building the PDFs? Or is the only way to dynamically build a PDF with a digital signature that can be user-signed in Reader through the LiveCycle/ADEP services?

You have to prepare the PDF BEFORE you add the extended Rights.  Once it's been rights enabled, you can't modify it w/o breaking the rights.

  • Saving pdf form with extended Reader rights

    Hello,
I want to save form changes without further confirmations in Reader version X ("Save" and not "Save as...").
    - If you use a pdf form with enabled Reader rights, you should be able to save any changes made in form field by using the Reader.
    - To save changes use "File / Safe" or press CRTL+S
    Result:
    - Save-as window will appear
    - After choosing save button you will be asked to overwrite existing file.
    Expected results:
File should be saved without further confirmations! In Reader version 9 there was no problem with that.
Does anybody had the same problem and found a solution?
    Regards,
    Christian

OK, it seems to be a typical "it's-not-a-bug-it's-a-feature"-problem. But I found no way to avoid the overwrite question during saving. I noticed that the question appears only the first time when you click on the save button. If you do further changes in form fiels and click a second time on the save button the document will be overwritten without additional warnings. Maybe it's a feature to prevent users from overwriting empty forms by asking for a new filename and so on..
However, we are using the reader in conjunction with a document management software and the overwrite warning disturbs our enterprise workflow. So the only insufficient solution for my problem is to downgrade all users to version 9 again.
Hope next version of reader will be better in disabling unwanted features ;-)

  • Can't open old PDFs after updating Adober Reader to Version XI. Pls. help. Thanks.

Can't open old PDFs after updating Adober Reader to Version XI. Pls. helop. Thanks.

It just doesn't respond. I could click on an older PDF million times; nothing happens, but all the new PDFs created after the update open without any problems.

  • Is there a way to automatically extend Reader rights in a form?

I have to automatically retrieve data from forms, process it a little bit, then populate another set of forms with it, make those forms signable (i.e., extend reader rights) and post them on the web. I have everything working except the reader rights extension. I've looked at third-party librearies (e.g., pdfLib) but I've read that only Adobe software can do this.
Is there a specific piece of software from Adobe that can be called from the command line (or, if needing human intervention, can work on many forms at once), and extend the reader rights of forms?
    Thanks,
    Andres

which LiveCycle? can it be done in ver.7?
    if yes-how?

  • Error opening a pdf after upgrading adobe reader

"There was an error processing a page. Invalid ColorSpace."
What can he do? he works with windows.

    Hi,
I like to share the discussion as I am confronted with same or similar problem. Since last Saturday the pdf attachments I sent with my e-mail messages show a blank pdf document upon opening. To make sure it really was the case I sent message with pdf attached to myself: bingo! Have recently updated to Adobe Reader 9.4.1. Using WinXp SP3 and MS Outlook 2003 SP3.
    Any suggestions?

  • Extending Reader Rights causing Initialize event to fire twice?

I have a few drop-down boxes populated by scripts on their respective Initialization events. Everything worked great through development--except, when I demonstrated the form for a group, I noticed the drop-down boxes were populating twice. I wasn't using a clearItems()--shouldn't have needed it, right?
So, this was something I couldn't reproduce in Desiger. Once the the Extended Rights had been removed, the form performed as expected in Acrobat, and Reader, too. Put the Extended Rights back on, and the drop-down boxes are double populating again. Take the Extended Rights off, no misbehaving, everythings fine. Extended Rights on, bad doggie, no biscuit!!
Now, obviously I can get past this by using clearItems(), or moving the scripts to preOpen. However, I'd like to know what the heck is causing this? Is this a bug? a known issue? or is it something caused by something somewhere else in the form? I have always assumed forms would behave the same with or without Extended Rights. But it looks very much like the Initialize event is firing twice upon opening with Extended Rights.
    Any insights out there?
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Hi Stephen,
I have come across this before and thought I had a "proper" answer, but I can't find it. I think that when reader enabling rights are applied by Acrobat the the form does a check as part of the opening process. There appears to be a bunch of events that fire twice when the form is reader enabled (in Acrobat - I can't test if the form is enabled in LC RE ES2).
Here is an example showing how, when and in what order, events fire.  The form is at the end of the post (at http://cookbooks.adobe.com/post_How_often_events_fire_and_their_sequence-16547.html). There are 13 objects in the form, whose events are tracked.
When the form is not enabled the start up looks like this (certain events firing once as expected):
When I apply the reader enabling rights through Acrobat, the firing of events doubles for:
    initialise;
    form:ready;
    layout:ready
    IndexChange;
    docReady.
One indicator of what is potentially happening is that in the RE version the preSave event fires (but not postSave event).
Not the full answer - just an indication.
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • Sign tools disabled after applying extended features to document.

I have a form that I need to be able to save date typed into the fillable fields and I also need to sign this document.  I need to sign the document using the sign tools panel, so that I can apply a ink signature and use the Signed. Proceed to Send feature.  This way I can save a flattend copy of the form after it has been filled in and signed.  If I do not enable extended features I am able to use the Sign tools paned, but I am not able to save a copy.  If I enable extended features, I can not use the Sign tools panel and can only sign from the Extended tools.  The problem is this takes away the ability to use the Signed. Proceed to Send feature.  When I click on the Sign tool button I get a warning telling me "The security setting on this document prevents adding and/or placing a signature on it from Adobe Reader."
I don't need to use the digital signature feature, I need to be able to have three people apply a ink signature to a form, and then be able to flatten the form.

I use the forms to document training for 8 people on a weekly basis.  Which is why I need to be able to save a copy of the form.  The document then needs to be signed by the student, the supervisor, and myself.  From there the document gets efiled, but it needs to be stored in a flattened state.  So the Save a copy after the "Signed. Proceed to Send" allows me to save a flattened copy.  On the computer I use to have the form signed I do not have Acobrat Pro installed so I do not have the option of flattening the document by choosing the save to pdf from the print screen.

  • Can't see pdf after uninstalling adobe reader

After uninstalling pdf reader from adobe, I lost possiblitiy to opend pdf documents in safari. Usually, before installing adobe reader pdf documents opened nicely in Safari, with link to download or print a document. Now, all what opens is a gray page, without any content in it. When trying printing, I get blank page. Has anyone encountered this problem? How can I switch to old Safari behavior - native pdf reading ability, present in OSX?

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • PAYABLES NOT GETTING THE REPORT OUTPUT IN PDF AFTER APPLYING RUP5 R12

    Hi All,
    RDBMS:10.2.0.3.0
    Oracle Apps :12.0.4
    OS:AIX 5.3
    Problem Description:
We are presently facing an issue in Payables not getting the report output in PDF esp for the reports "Invoice Register", Invoice Hold Report and also other reports. We were able to generate the reports till our last test performed on last Thursday. This instance was cloned over the last weekend and probably the new upgrade to RUP5 R12,would have impacted it.
Concurrent Programs submitted are completed normal but on clicking "view output" results in Blank PDF output.
The error message what was shown is as below:
"Adobe Reader could not open 'AcrC.tmp' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)".
Where could we locate ther above 'AcrC.tmp' of Adobe Reader..
could anyone please share such an experience encountered for resolution..
    Would appreciate an early response..
    Thanks for your time!
    Regards,

I suggest you speak to your DBA/sysadmin. This is not likely to be a reports problem.
Check that you can see the output from apps through the viewer (the report may not hav output anything)
Check whether you can print anything on that printer from apps.
May also be worth checking to see if you can print to another printer from this report.

  • Can't print any PDFs after installing adobe Reader x version 10 - help!

I am using Windows XP professional SP 3 and Google Chrome as a web browser.
Everything worked OK until the upgrade to Reader 10 - I have removed the Adobe reader and reinstalled and no luck.
I am not able to print PDF's from the internet nor within other programs.
    What should I do?
    Thanks

This helped me out, works perfectly now. (using OS 10.8.5)
Remove from the folder /Library/Internet Plug-Ins:
    1) AdobePDFViewer.plugin
    2) AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
backup these plugins - just in case.

  • Cannot open pdf after installing Acrobat Reader XI

Installed as recommended update.  Now attempts to open pdf produce the message that file "could not be opened because the associated helper application does not exist.  Change the association in your preferences."  What does this mean?  Running Windows XP.  Havve exhausted Acrobat help.

My reply was to Frederick; yours is a different problem. "I cannot open anything" is not informative enough to help you.

  • Trouble with opening pdf after installing Adobe Reader

I am trying to download Adobe Reader. I have already downloaded and installed it. I have completed all the steps. However, when I try to open a pdf, it says that I need to launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License agreement then quit and relaunch the browser. When the installation completed, it did not give me the option to do it. How do I fix this?

You need to do what it says. If you are on Windows (pre-8.0) go to Start>All programs, find Reader and launch it. If on a Mac, go to Applications, find Reader and launch it.

  • Saving a PDF form with Acrobat Reader X

According to Acrobat Reader X site under "Can I save an Adobe PDF form in Adobe Reader after I have filled it out?", the following answer is given:
"Yes, you can fill in and save forms provided the form author has enabled the "local save" capability within Adobe Acrobat or LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2." Further information reveals that Acrobat 9 Pro (which is what I have) includes LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2. I cannot locate on Help how to enable the "local save" facility.

Look under the "Advance" menu bar item for "Enable Extended Reader Rights".
