Dynamically building a Database URL

Hi all,
I'd like to create a database URL at runtime without knowing which database driver I'll have. I'd love some advice on how I should "discover" the sub-protocol for a selected driver, and the exact format for the url string. Wouldn't it be great if the programmer could supply connection properties like server, port, database, schema, and get a properly formatted url? Does this capability exist anywhere?

The information that appears after the driver name can take any form. And some databases don't even have 'server' much less 'port'. And many databases don't have 'schema' although many have something called 'database' it can take different forms. And there are many other parameter types that can appear in the connection string and those are much more exotic.

Dynamically passing text and url-based images as an input parameter to cf8 report builder

I'm unsuccessfully trying to dynamically pass text and url-based images to a group footer or the detail section via an input parameter or even hardcoded. The field has the attribute 'XHTML Text Formating' set to True. The following are failed samples of a simplified value:
"<img height=’300’ alt=’Document’ width=’300’ src=’http://www.google.com/intl/en_ALL/images/logo.gif’ />"
or
"<img src=’http://www.google.com/intl/en_ALL/images/logo.gif’ />"
This just results in the above text being output. The end result would have various text and images from a database as input by a user, thus the reason I cannot just use the hyperlink information attribute as I could if it were a single known image. I tried rtf and pdf report types. Ideas?

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind, although I don't know how many images my user might need or what sizes so that might be tricky.
Since my target output is rtf so that MS Word can be used to edit the result, I added a pagebreak to a MS Word doc and used the resulting html source to replace the rich text editor source code for the page break, but that did not help either. The page break was so a user could add an image later. Something is wrong with the Report Builder related to intepreting XHTML, especially anything that has an attribute, including URL-based image links. I hope they try to provide another update before CF9. I doubt my client will be going to CF9 for some time, since they are just completing the migration to CF8.

Dynamically set database url using tomcat jndi

By using Tomcat JNDI, database url information needs to be hardcoded in server.xml file according to the documentation. Is there a way to change the URL information in the code dynamically if necessary?
And also we need multiple connection pools and the connection information about those pools are only known during run time. So the TOMCAT JNDI is still the right way to go???
By the way, does anybody ever use tomcat DBCP package to get datasource and set url dynamically?

I think so. Since it's just a JDNI lookup, perhaps you can set up multiple data sources and decide on the lookup name at the last minute, depending on circumstances. That might work. I haven't tried it myself. - MOD

Trying to Install RMS application 13.2.2 and I get past the pre-installation checks and when I get to the Data Source details and enter the data source details with the check box checked to validate the schema/Test Data Source I get the following error:

Building a database site with DW CS4

Im attempting to build a database site using Dreamweaver cs4. I have a database of various text divided into chapters and sub chapters. I can create a record set that will pull chapter one and the first 10 subchapters (paragraphs) I then add a record set navigation bar allowing the rest of the paragraphs in the chapter to be veiwed.
My problem is that I dont understand how to automate setting up 100 or so similar dynamic pages with all of the rest of the main chapters on their own page.
I can work through this in PHP, but not visually in dreamweaver.
I could of course create 100 recordsets and navigation bars on 100 pages; but shouldnt their be a way to automate this process?
I'm working in dreamweaver CS4, I have access to CS5, but I would like to figure this out in CS4.
I would appreciate any help, or links to tutorials that build sites like this.

You don't need to setup 100 dynamic page. You haven't really explained your intended UI, but I would probably do this with one single page containing 3 recordsets. The first recordset reads the entire list of chapters and creates links for each. The second recordset reads the list of subchapters for the current page and creates those links. The last recorset reads the content for the current chapter/subchapter.

Don't worry too much about what DW can/can't do for you here. DW's server behaviors are pretty limited. Start by defining the UI - how do you want the user to navigate through your site? Don't limit the user experience to what can be accomplished via server behaviors. You may have to code most of this manually, but it sounds relatively simple.

Need help dynamically building combo-boxes...

How can I dynamically build drop down lists?
I was thinking about using a dynamic page, with bind variables
set for sql statements inside <oracle></oracle> tags, or passing
the variable from the first selection to the second selection of
another page (or the same page?)...
Another thing I was thinking about would be to base a form on a
DB procedure, and pass the selections to the procedure, and re-
build the lists that way...
I need to avoid client side processing (javascript) because of
accessiblity concerns.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

The following is an excerpt of the code I used. Because of a
lack of time, I haven't made the code generic. The code is used
to interface with Oracle Reports 6i & Oracle Configurator. The
configurator (config_hdr_id & config_rev_nbr) parameters are
selected by the user and passed into Oracle Reports using related
dynamic combo-boxes. Pay particular attention to the
wwpro_api_parameters.get_value function as well as the onChange
javascript. Hope you can take pieces of this for an example.

Need help to build Portal Insert URL in OAM..

Hi All,
I have a requirement to customize the user Manager screen in such a way that i need to get only the search criteria tab(but not any of the tabs or links) and the search results.
To achieve this i have builded below Portal URL.
http://training.orademo.com/identity/oblix/apps/userservcenter/bin/userservcenter.cgi?program=search&comp=true
By using this above URL i am able to hide all the tabs in the browser but i need to have that search criteria to be displayed in the screen.
Can any one please suggest me the solution to achieve this.

But my requirement is like i have to select the attribute and search type and search value from that page(in that Page i should not have UserManager, GroupManager, Org Manager, Identity SYstem Console tab and My Profile , reports ...etc links should not be appear) i sould be able to select the attribute that i would like to search only. so the search functionality should be there.
Based on this req i have to build the URL.

Can anyone give me some useful information on the best ways to design and build a database/booking & dispatch system that can be intergrated through ical, address book and available on my macbook, ipad & iphone and all accessed through icloud.
I started my own chauffuer Service a year ago as an independent. it's becoming a massive bore that most of my time is spent taking down information, checking if i am available for clients and with alot of diary checking and repeatative entries and email ping pong and invoicing, what i want to do is concerntrate on advertising and marketing and using my time off for R & R
What i would like to do is access my information in an app and automate most of the processes like
assigning the job to the client with intergration through iCal and Address Book
be able to email confirmation through mail with an invoice produced through numbers or excel
payment is already done through payleven mobile and must be done in person so i'd rather keep that seperate to all processes apart from a tick box to say it has been paid for.
I have been looking at all options FileMaker, Bento, Automator, Apple Script. to be frank im no expert and am a little confused as to what to do any advice would be greatly recieved.

Free way to dynamically build a form that adobe reader can fill out?

It's 2008 and we don't have a open, free way to dynamically build a pdf form that adobe reader can populate with data? Why is Adobe charging for this sort of thing? Does this make sense to anybody?

that other people are prepared to pay for. It's no good trying to
charge for things that nobody will pay for.

if they do not make money.
By the way, the PDF specification is open. If you want something for
free, why not implement it and share it with the world, who will
surely be pleased. (You will not be able to implement a form that

Build new database through scripts must understand spanish character sets.

Hello Gurus,
I need some simple advice, a good chance for some quick points for you.
I have never built a database to understand any other character set other than American English. I now have to build a database that will be used for Spanish characters- keyboards, etc. But I will be using English for the 11g software install. I only wish to be able to show Spanish characters in the data for customers names.
I will be creating the database with scripts I have made to make the standard template for database files, control files, etc.
Then I will be importing from a dump I have done that was made with American English character sets.
System is 11g (11.2.0.3.0) on Linux Enterprise Server 5.8.
I was thinking to use the AL32UTF8 character set, but I am unsure where to use it.
My original test did not show Spanish characters for customers names like the 'tilda' or 'sueano' (pardon my spelling). But in this case I did not make the exeception for Spanish, I only used the standard American English build (no changes in the init.ora file or initial database build script).
How can I adjust my parameter file for the initial creation of the database template to be able to understand the Spanish character set and still be able to import my dump file without error.

If I replace NATIONAL CHARACTER SET AL16UTF16 to AL32UTF8 will it work to show Spanish characters?

Hello,
the national charsets is for column types like nvarchar not for normal varchar data types. So if your dump file contains such column types you will also need to set it. The charset is for the normal column types like varchar. The use of unicode is best pratice if you use multiel language, but keep in mind that multibyte charset can be a problem during the import because varchar2(10) means 10byte and not 10 chars, so errors like identifier to long can occur during import.
You can create the database.

You can use a charset like WE8MSWIN1252 which covers spanish also (as far i know) and is a superset to us7ascii

Dynamically build parameter list

I'm after an easy way to dynamically build a list of ALL the defined parameters within the additional PL/SQL code section on a portal report. I then want to use p_arg_names / p_arg_values to retrieve and store the passed values in a table.
To clarify, the report may have 10 parameters of which say only 5 are passed on a particular run. I need to then populate 10 columns which includes nulls for the parameters not passed. This way parameter values will always be written to the same column.
I aiming to use this as generic code to apply to several other reports which will write to the same table.

In case anyone else needs this I'll post the solution myself.
1. p_arg_names and p_arg_values (shows only the populated parameters / values)
2. l_arg_names and l_arg_values (shows all the parameters / values)
So in my case I needed to reference l_arg_names and l_arg_values.

Dynamic Image (.gif) from URL into adobe Form by SFP

Hi all
I post the comment of Shamila because I have the same problem
I need to place an image in the Adobe form based on the url.
I have written the following formcalc script in the image field form ready action
ImageField1.value.image.href = "http://www.adobe.com/imageshome/pdfgift_home.gif"
But when i view the form , the image field is empty, and when i click on the blank space of the image field, a popup appears to select the image............
How can i show the image from url in the form..........

Hello,
It is not possible. You cannot create blocks or items at runtime. What you can do is to have them created but hidden, then you set them visible as soon as you need them.

If this issues is reproduceable on the latest SSDT bits, I'd suggest capturing the event log for what is going wrong and then opening a connect
bug for this issue at https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/CreateFeedback.aspx and
use the category "Developer Tools(SSDT, BIDS, etc.)". We're trying to track all bugs through connect so that you can tell when we have fixed the issue and we can request
more information. Please include the event log (instructions on this below) plus any other useful information you can provide, such as an example of exact steps to reproduce the problem.
Gathering an Event Log for SSDT
For diagnostic purposes we would like you to gather an event log for the issue that you are experiencing in SSDT. In order to gather a log and send it to a member of
the team, please follow the steps below.
Open a new command prompt as Administrator.
Run the following command
logman create trace -n DacFxDebug -p "Microsoft-SQLServerDataTools" 0x800 -o "%LOCALAPPDATA%\DacFxDebug.etl" -ets
logman create trace -n SSDTDebug -p "Microsoft-SQLServerDataToolsVS" 0x800 -o "%LOCALAPPDATA%\SSDTDebug.etl" -ets
Run whatever the target/issue scenario is in SSDT.
Go back to the command prompt and run the following commands
logman stop DacFxDebug -ets
logman stop SSDTDebug -ets
The resulting ETL files will be located at %LOCALAPPDATA%\SSDTDebug.etl & %LOCALAPPDATA%\DacFxDebug.etl and can be navigated to using Windows Explorer.

NOTE - These logs will only be used by Microsoft product team members in order to better diagnose the problem you are experiencing
with SSDT and will not be shared elsewhere. If you want to make sure that there is no private information in your ETL file, the SSDTDebug.etl file can be opened and analyzed using the Windows Event Viewer.
To do this, open the Windows Event Viewer application. In the right-hand panel, select Open Saved Log. Navigate to the location where you saved the log, open, and review
the contents of the trace.
