Dynamically configure build specification version number

I have several build specifications in the same project under the same version control and I base my version numbers in part on my revision number:
<Major>.<Minor>.<Revision>
Right now, I'm keeping the full number in a text file which is distributed with all build specifactions. However, I notice the build specification configuration diaglogue contains an option to execute a VI before the build. I'm wondering if a VI executed at this stage can somehow edit the version number within the build specification that called it, such that I don't have to manually change the version number in every build spec, every time I want to build one.
Are there any canned functions that let you edit build specification things like version numbers?

Hi Kgolden and A. Zaatari,
Maybe it's not a current feature (I have to believe a NI Engineer ) but it's possible to do it.
I made a VI that automatically creates Build and Installer specifications and also changes their configuration (like name, path, and version number).
So, here is how:
- all this information are stored in the project file My_Project.lvproj
- My_Project.lvproj is actually a !!! XML file !!!
- Make a small VI that search in the XML for the following lines/properties:
      (1) App_fileVersion.build
      (2) App_fileVersion.major
      (3) App_fileVersion.minor
      (4) App_fileVersion.patch
For the App_fileVersion.build it should look like :<Property Name="App_fileVersion.build" Type="Int">115</Property>. Search for the pattern and change the value 115. Do the same for all four of them.
Pay attention!! After you change this value you have to restart (close and than open) the Project in order to apply changes. This can also be done automatically by using LabView Application invoke and property node: Invoke Node: Project/Close + App/Open.LV Document/Path. Be carefull that you should do this from a VI that is not added to the project.

Paul

    I want to configure dynamically following parameters of Outbound file adapter
    1) Number of Message equals

    If we set all those parameter at designtime then automatically it stored at adapter.wsdl file but how can I change those parameter at runtime.
    Let me know regarding this.

    Noway.
    Only statically. Stop adapter, change in manually and restart adapter.
    Or write your own adapter in java.
    Or create several adapters with different configuration and pick appropriate adapter dynamically.

  • Manually change version number in doc library

    Hi,
    We are uploading some documents to a MOSS Doc Library and need to force the version of some documents to start at a specific version number - is this possible?
    All the best

    Hello,
          Moss 2007 transact the version internally, that seems no direct way to set version number manually. Here I have some methods you can take reference:
    1.       If you want to directly set a low version document to a higher one, e.g. 1.0 à 5.0. You can achieve it through repeating checkout/checkin operation.
    2.       To the contrary, if you want to directly set a higher version document to a lower one, e.g. 5.0 à 1.0. Then you can try follow process:
    1)     Find the document you need to change the version number in the document library.
    2)     Hover on the document. Click on Version History of the dropdown menu.
    3)     Right click on the Version of the document and click Save and choose a location for the document (i.e. your desktop) and Close. And OK.
    4)      Return to the Document Library.
    5)     Click on Upload Document.
    6)     Find the location of the Document you saved .
    7)      Enter your Version Comments and click Save.
    Hope it can help you.

  • Get IDoc-number from flat IDoc using dynamic configuration

    Dear experts
    In an IDoc2File scenario I have added the IDoc-number to dynamic configuration using the folling code in an UDF:
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration)
    container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey FileName = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http:/"+"/sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","DOCNUM");
    conf.put(FileName, a);
    The information is stored in the SOAP message
    <SAP:DynamicConfiguration SOAP:mustUnderstand="1">
      <SAP:Record namespace="http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File" name="DOCNUM">0000000000012345</SAP:Record>
    </SAP:DynamicConfiguration>
    Can anybody tell me how I can access this information in the "variable substitution" section of the CC? Perhaps something like "message:docnum"?
    Additional information:
    Taking the IDoc-number from the payload using e.g. "payload:ORDERS05,1,IDOC,1,EDI_DC40,1,DOCNUM,1" does not work, since the XML-IDoc has been converted to an flat-IDoc.
    Thanks in advance for any good ideas
    Markus

    Dear Rodrigo and Sarvesh
    Thanks for your help so far! I applied your hints and now it is working fine.
    But now I have the following additional questions
    1.) My message mapping only maps the input IDoc to an output IDoc of the same type and structure. The MM is only required to process the UDF. Is there another, better solution to achieve my requirement that the IDoc-number shall be part of the filename?
    2.) In the CC you have the possibility to use temporary files (section "Processing", Option "Put File" = "Use Temporary File". I think this will not work with the given solution, will it?
    To possibly help somebody else or clarify the mechanism once again, I wrote down how my solution now looks like.
    My UDF in the message-mapping looks like this
    - Input = DOCNUM of IDoc, e.g. ORDERS05/IDOC/EDIDC/DOCNUM
    - Outpt = DOCNUM of IDoc, e.g. ORDERS05/IDOC/EDIDC/DOCNUM
    - UDF:
    public String putDynamicConfiguration(String docnum, Container container) throws StreamTransformationException{
    try
         DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
         DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","FileName");
         String filename = "Prefix_" + docnum + ".txt";
         conf.put(key, filename);
         return docnum;
    catch (Exception e)
         return docnum;
    In the CC the settings are now as follows
    File Name Scheme = . -> only a dot or something else, because this field is obligatory, even if it is not used in this case.
    Variable substitution (...)
        Enable -> unchecked
    Adapter-Specific Message Attributes
        Use Adapter-Specific Message Attributes -> checked
        Fail If Adapter-Specific Message Attributes Missing -> checked
        File Name -> checked
        Directory, File Type, Temporary Name Scheme for Target File Name -> unchecked
    When I send an IDoc to PI and view the Adapte-Engine Version of the message (the SOAP-document, not the payload) I can find the Filename:
    <SAP:DynamicConfiguration SOAP:mustUnderstand="1">
    <SAP:Record namespace="http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File" name="FileName">Prefix_0000000000012345.txt</SAP:Record>
    </SAP:DynamicConfiguration>

  • Sequence file Version number. How to prevent the automatic resetting build version number whilst auto-incrementing revision number?

    Hi,
    I've got my environment set this way that each save of the sequence file increase the revision part of version number. However, during that increase the build counter is reset to 0. How to prevent it?
    TS 4.2

    Mimi,
    It is pretty common practice in software revisioning to reset a minor number to 0 when a major moves up 1.  There are many different schemes out there.  If you google or bing software versioning schemes you'll see what I'm talking about.
    So looking at it from left to right:  Major.Minor.Revision.Build = 0.0.0.1
    if you change the Revision it would be expected that anything to the right (in this case Build) would reset to 0.  0.0.1.0!
    Let's say your version is 8.34.56.23.  It would make sense that if you were to change the Major number (which means a Major release) to 9 then your version would go to: 9.0.0.0.
    A version number is just a unique way to tell someone which specific software you are using so it really doesn't matter that it resets to 0.  Although it makes sense because if you kept your build number sequential and didn't reset it then it would get outrageously larger which would be more annoying than anything.
    Again this is common accepted practice in industry.
    Good Luck,

  • How do I specify the build number when deploying an iOS application (not version number)

    I'm looking for a way to specify the application's build number when deploying an iOS application.
    Currently in the -app.xml file, you can specify a version number by using:
    <versionNumber>1.0.24</versionNumber>
    But when submitting to the iTunes Connect store, I want to be able to submit the new updates as a build change, and not version change to avoid the approval process again.
    Can this be done ?
    Thanks in advance.
    -Daniel

    Hi Gig52,
    Unfortunately, there is no way for you update/modify/increment the build/version number information from the command line. You will have to set that via the Project Explorer. You could check the box labeled Auto Increment in the Version Information property to have the version number automatically increment each time you build your application.

  • How can I configure a Build Specification to install for current user only

    Is there any way I can configure an installer build specification to install my application to the current user's folder? This does not seem possible at first glance due to the limited "destinations" available.
    Ideally I'd want the application to be placed in "C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData", or some equivilent where it'd be protected from being run by other users without administrative access.
    Has anyone been able to do this? Thanks!
    CLA, CCVID, Certified Instructor

    There is a destination called [Personal] that goes to the user's MyDocuments folder.  Whether program files should be mixed with a documents folder could be debated.
    I see the [Public App Data] choice, but I don't see a [User App Data] option.
    Another possibility would be to allow it to go to Public App Data, but after the installation, run a VI that then moves the program folder to the User's Application Data directory.  However, that probably means updating shortcuts as well.  And I don't know whether that VI would essentially step on itself in trying to do that move.
    Maybe another choice would be to allow it to install to the program file directory, but use CACLS to prevent users from accessing that directory except for explicit permissions to the one or more users you want to allow to execute it.  An advantage is it would allow one user to install a program for another user to use.  The disadvantage is the person doing the installing would almost certainly have to be an administrator.
    A disadvantage of the method you desire is that a user has to be the person logged in and install it for themselves (assuming that group policies allow non-admin users to install their own programs).  Another disadvantage is if you want to have more than one permitted user, it would need to be installed multiple times, one for each.
    Perhaps you could install security at the front end of your applicaiton.  Anyone can run it, but the application determines if the currently logged in user is permitted to run it when comparing against some sort of encrypted file that lists valid users.  If the user is permitted, the program moves onto normal operation.  If not on the list, the program tells them so and never advances onto normal operation.
    Perhaps someone else can determine if there is a path tagged within the installer builder that goes to the User App Data that I am missing.

  • Use of "Open FPGA VI Reference" function --- Build Specification vs VI vs Bitfile

    When using the "Open FPGA VI Reference" function in a LV2012 cRIO application, there are 3 options: Build Specification, VI, or Bitfile. What would be the reasons for selecting one over the others? Does it affect the resulting startup.rtexe when the cRIO application is built? I searched through the help and in these forums, but I don't see criteria for selecting one over the others; maybe I missed it.

    Hello Chris,
    Apologies in advance for a long reply.
    The reference method won't change the functionality of your rtexe.exe.  They all end up dropping a bitstream, based on a bitfile, onto the cRIO's FPGA.
    To a degree, the method used to reference the FPGA code is a matter of taste, but there are situations where one method is better suited than the others.
    Reference by VI:
    Setting the configuration options to open reference by VI is helpful during development when you are making changes to an FPGA VI often and building/testing using the same spec.  When this option is used, a bitfile is selected based on the default build specification for the project.  A project may have only one default build specification.  You can make any build the default by checking the option under the Source Files category in the build properties.  The default build is indicated in the project explorer by the green box around the builds icon.
    Reference by Bitfile:
    This option references a bitfile directly.  Through the configuration window, you can select one specific bitfile to open a reference to (this is not dynamic and does not change unless you physically go make a change to that path).  If you're using this method, it helps to give your bitfiles more meaningful names than the ones that are automatically generated by LabVIEW.  When you run subsequent compilations off of the same build specification and do not change the bitfile nname or path in the build configuration, the old bitfile is overwritten and replaced with the new one.  When you are using this option, it is critical that you keep up with which bitfile is the one you want to be using.  There is an option now that will help alleviate any problems referencing by bitfile through the Open FPGA VI Reference function.  There is a new VI called Open Dynamic Bitfile Reference.  It is typically used when you want to chose a specific bitfile to load depending on something in your host code (a configuration option etc) - but it allows you to dynamically reference a bitfile on the block diagram by path.
    Referency by Build Specification:
    This option is good for when you want to always use a bitfile that is associated with/compiled with the same build configuration.  Say you have two options for top level FPGA VIs in your project (each with its own build spec).  Both of these VIs have the same interface (read/write controls, DMA) but they run different algorithms or something.  This is nice because you can easily switch your host application between them by picking the build spec associated with the FPGA VI you want to use.  In this type of sutation, referencing by VI is no good because you can only have on default build spec.
    cheers.

  • How to reference application version number and current date in page footer

    Am new to Apex and am creating first app for production users on Apex 4.0.1 ... I notice that Application Builder app itself displays the version number at bottom right of screen .. are there any substitution strings that I can use to get current date and application version in my own Apex app ... or do I need to create e.g Javascript to format the date and create my own substitution string ?
    Any help much appreciated .. thanks !

    I modified the Footer of our Default page template. Used JavaScript for the date, below is the code we use. The very last table is specific to our environment and it would need to be customized for your use or removed if not needed. I am a JavaScript novice so this may be crude but it does the job.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 installation successfull but the Full Version number still is 5.00.7958.1000

    Hi Guys
    I have a SCCM 2012R2 in Windows 2008R2 box with a Secondary Site also in Windows 2008R2. Before proceeding with the upgrade to CU3 I took a snapshot, installed Windows Management Framework 4.0 to get PowerShell 4.0 in order to run a health Check, all
    fine until this point.
    I installed CU3 and checked that the value in CULevel in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\Setup is 3 and also check the
    version that is displayed in the About System Center Configuration Manager dialog box is
    5.00.7958.1401
    I checked the log file C:\Windows\Temp\cm12-r2cu3-kb2994331-x64-enu.log and all good in there as well. So it's fair to say the installation was successful..??
    the next step was to upgrade my secondary site from the Primary site console, so I went to Administration / Site Configuration / Sites and when I right clicked my Primary Server to check its properties I realised that the Version number was still
    5.00.7958.1000 and the option to upgrade my secondary site is greyed out.
    I haven't been able to find any information regarding this issue, in fact I am not sure if is a technical issue or human issue :)
    the questions are, how do I upgrade my secondary site and why the difference in between version?
    Regards
    Jesus Gonzalez

    Works as dessigned. The site version number will only show the version of the latest major build, which is R2 in your case. The same with upgrading your secondary site, that's only possible via the console, with a major build. For upgrading your secondary
    site you can now use the created package R2 CU3 - server update.

  • How do I determine the executable version number?

    Hi.
    I have a VI and a build specification for it.  In the Version Information section of the build specification, I set the version number to auto-increment.  I would like to display this version number on an indicator on the front panel of the executable, but I have not found a property that provides this information. Does anybody know how to get the executable version number? I am aware that it is possible to right-click on the .exe file in windows explorer, go to properties and get it that way, but I would like to display it on the VI itself.
    On a related topic, I have noticed that only the 'build' field of the version gets auto-incremented. How does the application builder decide when it is time to increment the major, minor and fix fields?  Or will it only ever auto-increment the build field and I am supposed to update the other fields manually? (That would actually make sense, but I would like confirmation.)
    Thanks in advance,
    Alejandro
