Dynamically generate drop down menu

I am using JSTL to generate a drop down menu on the page
<html:select size="1" property="reportYear">
for(int i = 2000; i < 2100; i++)
{ %>
<html:option value="<%=i%>"><%=i%></html:option>
<% } %>
</html:select>
this doesnt work the problem is printing those double quotes for the value...
I get the following error
[ServletException in:/ucpages/contract/CapReportList.jsp] Unable to compile class for JSP Generated servlet error: [javac] C:\Sun\AppServer8\domains\domain1\generated\jsp\j2ee-modules\uc\org\apache\jsp\ucpages\contract\CapReportList_jsp.java:249: cannot resolve symbol [javac] symbol : method setValue (int) [javac] location: class org.apache.struts.taglib.html.OptionTag [javac] jspxth_html_option_12.setValue(i); [javac] ^ [javac] 1 error '
also tried printing the double quotes using <% out.print("\""); %>
nothing works

Seemingly the primitive type int isn't allowed here. Something like the following is close to your code and outputs the result you want:
<form action="index.jsp">
    <select size="1" property="reportYear">
<%
for(int i = 2000; i < 2100; i++)
{ %>
<option value="<%=Integer.toString(i)%>"><%=Integer.toString(i)%></option>
<% } %>
</select>
</form>Or loop using tags with c:forEach.

  • Dynamic Drop-Down Menu Solution

    Hi All,
    After spending a lot of time trying to find a good solution for a dynamic drop-down menu, I end up writing my own.
    The solution is for a list of items, having ITEM as the primary key of the table and ITEMDESCRIPTION as the list of options for the user to select.
    The steps are:
    1) JavaBean to return a ResultSet;
    2) A custom tag to build a HTML SELECT;
    3) A .tld file to declare the custom tag;
    4) web.xml where the custom tag mapping resides;
    4) A JSP to illustrate how to call the custom tag;
    Hoping this will save lots of time to others
    Cheers

    This is a very helpful execellent sample code.
    However, If I'm using Model-View-Control approach, then what's the way of applying these codes
    to each indivisual file? Say, I have 20 files and only 4 of the 20 need to be treated as they like
    to have drop down menu in particular column(s)??? How could the custom tag be applied as the
    controller tells the view to present these special treat? or it is not possible (I have to treat each
    file, filtered by controller -- one by one as it encounters the special need)?

  • Utilizing Custom Tags to create a dynamic drop-down menu

    Hi to all,
    I am looking to create a dynamic .jsp to display to the user a drop-down list. This list is based upon data in database. The data will be passed as an application bean. This list will vary depending on application criteria.
    I would like to use a custom tag to create the drop-down menu. I am attempting to keep the .jsp page strictly .jsp, no Java. (I have been successful in creating & using an iterator tag.)
    Can someone point me in the right direction, or give me an example?
    thanks!

  • --urgent Can I use table data to create a dynamic drop down menu?

    Hi,
    I am asked to investigate the possibility of using APEX to create a table driven dynamic drop down menu? The deadline is tomorrow but I have spent quite a bit of time but still have not any clue. Can any one have such experience to point me a way to focus on?
    Many thanks.
    Jennifer

    Thanks you very much for the help Kevin.
    Currently my company is using htp.p style to create web app and using the dynamic menu in a similar way as you explained. Now they want to move to Apex and still keep dynamic menu functionality. After reading your response and research I have done I think I can embed it into Apex application by creating the similar table and PL/SQL package and let Apex to call the PL/SQL package when the application is first called. However may I ask you a question about how to call such pl/sql procedure in Apex? .
    The current application has the following URL, from which the procedure pkg_main.print_menu is called and html home page with dynamic menu is displayed.
    Http://app server:1234/pls/applicationname/pkg_main.print_menu?p_new_window=N
    BUT what about the Apex? The Apex URL format is like the following, where 11563 and 1 is application id and page number. Assume that 1 is home page, but HOW the procedure is called, from WHERE?
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=11563:1:3397731373043366363

  • Setting default value in dynamic drop-down menu

    Hi,
    I created a simple drop-down menu that can be used to edit an
    existing record or to create a new record.
    When creating a new record, I'd like the drop-down menu to
    display "Not specified" by default. Could anyone help me with this?
    The "Not specified" option in the drop-down menu should refer
    to record ID 11 in my database table entitled "names".
    Here's what my code looks like so far.
    The db queries:
    <CFQUERY DATASOURCE="DATA" NAME="get">
    SELECT *
    FROM names
    order by name
    </CFQUERY>
    <CFQUERY DATASOURCE="DATA" NAME="quo">
    SELECT *
    FROM quotes
    WHERE quoteID = #quoteID#
    </CFQUERY>
    This part is for the existing database record:
    <select name="frn_ID">
    <cfoutput query="get">
    <option value="#id#"<cfif id is quo.frn_ID>
    selected</cfif>>#name#</option>
    </cfoutput>
    </select>
    Here is where I'd like the ID with a default value of 11 to
    be displayed:
    <cfelse>
    <select name="frn_ID">
    <cfoutput query="get">
    <option value="#id#">#name#</option>
    </cfoutput>
    </select>
    </cfif>
    Thank you for any help with this!
    Luke

    Thank you.
    I added this line:
    <CFSET ThisOne = 11>
    and then edited the drop-down menu to appear like this:
    <select name="frn_ID">
    <cfoutput query="get">
    <option value="#id#" <cfif ThisOne is ID>
    selected</cfif>>#name#</option>
    </cfoutput>
    </select>

  • Dynamic Drop Down Menu from an Access Database

    Hello Everyone,
    I am user Adobe Designer 7 to create a fillable PDF, and I would like to get the options for a drop down menu from my MS Access database. Basically I would like to populate the drop down menu with the names in the Access database. There i Have a table called PhoneNumbers and it contains the names of all the people I want to appear in the drop down menu that I just created.
    This is what I did:
    I created a drop down menu and then I clicked on Object > Binding > under "Default Binding (Open, Save, Submit)" choose "New Data Connection"
    then connect to the database using a fileDSN. I opened the table where with the "names" column (PhoneNumbers)
    and under the "Query," option, I wrote:
    select * from PhoneNumbers
    Then it gave me all the fields from the table and I dragged the "Last name" field over the drop down menu. I will need to find a way to get the "First Name" field to join the Last Name field to create one name that looks like this: Hill, Angie
    The problem is that even though it shows the name from the Access database, it does not give me a list of all the names when I open the form in Reader 7...
    No matter how much I click that drop down arrow, the name does not change...
    It's almost as if it gets to the databse and gets the data from the database, but it cannot loop through it...
    It's almost as if it's missing the code to loop through it...
    Why is this? Any ideas how to fix it so it gives me a list of ALL the names, when I click on the drop down button?
    After that, how can I add the first name to it?
    The form would look like this:
    Angie H. 202 641 2055
    Right now it does look like that, but I cannot change to another name when I click the drop down menu. For the code to be working when I change to another name, the phone number also changes to the phone number of that person:
    Barry S. 703 555 1258
    The name is in a drop down menu, the phone number is in a textbox.
    Can you help me with this?

  • Display normal text instead of drop down menu

    I have two tables. One is the customer particular, which has RaceID(int) as one of the field. The other
    table is Race, which has RaceID(int) and Race(char). Both of these tables are linked together.
    I have the following code generated from Ultradev when I am using Dynamic Elements Server Behavior.
    I will gonna do a search page, which list the value of Race of customer in normal text for each staff,
    not the drop down menu(but during insert page, I am using drop down menu to enter the data). How to
    do that?
    Codes:(This code will generate a drop down menu which compare the value in the customer particular and
    the race tables. If selected, display that one with the drop down menu.
    <select name="race">
    <%
    while (Race_hasData) {
    %>
    <option value="<%=((Race.getObject("raceID")!=null)?Race.getObject("raceID"):"")%>" <%=(((Race.getObject("raceID")).toString().equals(((((Matching_data
    = Matching.getObject("raceID"))==null || Matching.wasNull())?"":Matching_data)).toString()))?"SELECTED":"")%>
    <%=((Race.getObject("race")!=null)?Race.getObject("race"):"")%></option><%
    Race_hasData = Race.next();
    Race.close();
    Race = StatementRace.executeQuery();
    Race_hasData = Race.next();
    Race_isEmpty = !Race_hasData;
    %>
    </select>

    don't use <select>, use <input type = "text"> instead and you will get text box.

  • Show/hide fields when selecting an option from a drop-down menu.

    Hello Gurus!
    I have a question about creating a Java Script withing Acrobat pro.  This is what i would like to do: I created a drop-down menu with several selection entries.  Upon the customer making one of the selection entries, i would like for the correct fields that i created to become visible and all other fields to hide.  Is this even possible to do?  The reasoning behind this is because we have a form that customers have to generate in order to request access to certain financial accounts; we have over 20 different types of accounts and for each instance the customer has to fill out the same form.  By creating a drop down menu, i can use the same form by just changing the drop-down selection and clicking on the designated fields for that selection.  At this time i have over 20 different forms that poing to 20 different account requests and i would hate to send the form 20 different times to one person.  The reason i can not add all fields desired for all accounts is due to the fact that the form would be filled with hundreds of checkmarks and instructions thus making the process too tideous for the customer.  Hope you guys can help out.
    ~Vader

    The good news is, it can be done (and it has been done).
    There are a few things to be aware of, however.
    The most important is that the form must be planned well, which means that you must think carefully about your logic and even more so about your field naming (hierarchical field names are your friend). One fundamental issue, you have to be aware of, is that this form no longer will be a "standard form". The consequence of this is that you may have to be aware that you might get into trouble when you have to prove that your user filled out that particular standard form (talk to your compliance and forms management people about that).
    You also may have to decide whether the form should be usable in Reader. And, if so, how much you want to spend on the right to do so. You will see below why…
    There are actually two approaches for dynamically showing/hiding parts of a form. If your form can be separated between a fixed first page (where you also have the account type selection), and a variable part (depending on the selection), you could use Templates, which you spawn according to the selection, and delete pages when you change the selection. This approach is very easy to implement, but requires Reader Extensions Server to allow it to work in Reader; Acrobat Pro's extended rights are not sufficient for that.
    The other approach is showing/hiding fields. If you did your homework well, it would be very easy to first hide all subsequent fields, and then show the ones you need in two lines of code. This approach does not require extended rights for Reader at all, as long as your forms will always have the same number of pages, for each of your account types. This approach also works for the cases where the differences between the individual forms are very small. It does also work for showing/hiding bigger chunks of the form. In that case, you might create the "background" separately, and then put it as an icon into a button field which you will show/hide together with the carefully placed on top of it active fill-out fields.
    There is a third possibility, which Adobe Propaganda probably would suggest, and that woudl be subforms in LiveCycle Designer. The consequence is, however, that you won't have PDF forms, but proprietary XFA forms instead. And you may have more developing and maintenance work than with the other approaches.
    Back to your original question: you could use a Keystroke script evaluating event.changeEx of the combo box field. Depending on that, you would run your action to set up the according form part. The other way to do it would be evaluating event.value in the onBlur event. The latter would have the advantage that the selection has been made, and you get a bit more time to set up the form (this may in fact be an issue, particularly with Acrobat 9 and 10, which may take their time to show/hide fields).
    Another possibility instead of a drop down (combo box field) would be a popup, where you would have a button to press, and the list of selections pops up. This second method uses app.popUpMenuEx().
    Hope this can help.

  • How can I create a drop down menu from an array

    Hello all,
    I am attempting to create a subvi that allows the end user to add a part number to an .txt file, and assigns that part number a value than can be used to select one of two modes of communication to be used to write to a EEPROM.   I am using the "write key.vi" and the "read key.vi" to create and read the .txt file.  What I would like to do is is use "get section names.vi" to read all of the part numbers and dump them into a drop down menu after the end user generates the file using the subvi.
    I guess my question is how do I dump a 1D string array into a drop down menu.
    I have attached some semi-functional .vi's to give an idea of what i am attempting to do.

    Place a Ring control on your front panel, then create a property node on the block digram. You can wire the output array of "Get Section Names" to populate the Strings[ ] property of the Ring.
    Retrieve the specific string selected by the operator by wiring the Ring control to the Index Array function.
    Now is the right time to use %^<%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S%3uZ>T

  • Drop down menu turning to all caps after clicked in browser

    Problem. drop down menu turning to all caps after clicked in browser, instead of staying upper and lower case.
    Originally, I made the drop downs in fireworks CS3. Then when I work with them in dreameaver CS3.
    It looks perfect UNTIL  ... after clicking on dropdown once, then go back to that page and that particular dropdown menu turns to ALL CAPS instead of what it should look like.
    How can I make it NOT do that?
    I did NOT do any special code that I know of to cahnge anything, I hav not experienced this problem before.
    Here is a link to my website I am designing.
    http://greenairenvironmental.com/3/Asset_Property.html
    I need help to fix this problem. Thank You in advance.
    http://greenairenvironmental.com/3/Asset_Property.html
    I have attached the automatically generated .css file from fireworks that might be the  source of the problem.

    Take a look for this selector in your greenair.css  file:
    a:visited {
        font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
        font-size: 16px;
        font-weight: bold;
        text-transform: uppercase;
        color: #9FCE62;
    and remove the text-transform.

    Change the above to:
    <form action="<?php print $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'];?>"
    method="get">
    <select name="ID" class="dropdown" id="menu"
    onchange="this.form.submit()">
    <option value="" selected="selected">Jump To Another

    mysql_fetch_assoc($rsOtherDevs));
    $rows = mysql_num_rows($rsOtherDevs);
    if($rows > 0) {
    mysql_data_seek($rsOtherDevs, 0);
    $row_rsOtherDevs = mysql_fetch_assoc($rsOtherDevs);
    ?>
    </select>
    <noscript><input type="submit" value="Go"
    /></noscript>
    </form>

  • Problems with flash transparent drop down menu over html in some browsers

    Hi everyone... this is my first post and it's about an issue
    that's causing me a few problems.
    I'm currently designing/ building my company's web site, the
    test page be viewed here: www.musflashtv.com/test.htm
    1) This layout contains an embeded flash movie (.swf) with a
    transparent background, this is the main navigation.
    The flash navigation has a drop down menu that animates down
    and covers the html page (containing links) below.
    The problem is that in most current browsers such as; Firefox
    2.0.05 (links below template don't work), Netscape 8.1.3
    (navigation drop down and links don't work) and Opera 9.10 (links
    below template don't work), any links just below the 'invisible'
    transparent area coverd by the navigation can't be clicked 'through
    the flash file'. The exception is IE 7.0, everything is fine there.
    (it hasn't been tested in any mac browsers though).
    Because the area below the navigation on
    www.kitachi.info/work is one large dummy jpeg file, the link below
    would be a much better example to look at.
    http://www.musflashtv.com/shows/ind...tlight-Sessions
    The flash navigation is embedded in the html (tlp) template
    file using the code below and aligned using an external style
    (.css) sheet, this html code not only embeds the flash movie but it
    also tells the browser to display it's background and as
    transparent. The flash movie is embedded in a layer that sits above
    the table.
    3) The flash embed code:
    <object
    classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"
    name="shows-navigation-tranparent" width="851" height="300"
    align="top" class="flash-navigation"
    id="shows-navigation-tranparent">
    <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
    <param name="movie"
    value="flash/navigation-tranparent.swf" />
    <param name="quality" value="high" />
    <param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
    <param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" />
    <param name="SCALE" value="exactfit" />
    <embed src="flash/navigation-tranparent.swf" width="851"
    height="300" align="top" quality="high" wmode="transparent"
    bgcolor="#000000" name="navigation-tranparent"
    allowscriptaccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
    pluginspage="
    http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
    scale="exactfit" />
    </object>
    Does anybody know of any code that can solve this problem or
    know a different way of creating a flash navigation with a drop
    menu that can be embeded over html?
    Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated especially as
    this issue is holding back progress in a big way.
    Thanks in advance guys!
    Adie

    It's IE-only behaviour as a result of changes Microsoft made
    last
    year to their browser, regarding how Active Content (Flash,
    Quicktime etc)
    is handled, after losing a high profile court case.
