Dynamically generating reports

Hi,
I have one doubt in generating reports dynamically.I have a dropdown box having two values
say"value1","value2".When i select value1 i need to display a report and when value2 is selected i need to display
another report in the same region. In the first report i have to display a column as a link and when clicking that link i
need to popup another page.In the second report i do not need any link columns.How can i achieve this.
Thanks,
tj

Hi,
Actually these reports are not tabular form reports.These reports are formed from 3 tables using join operation.
When clicking value1 in the select list:
I need to display report having details of devices of type1 and type2 (Details means the user,location
etc) . In that details devicename must be a link.The location must be a selectlist.It is possible to add an LOV to this
selectlist.
When clicking value2 in the select list:
I need to display report having details of devices of type2 (Details means the user,location etc) . Here
devicename is not a link.The location must be a selectlist.It is possible to add an LOV to this selectlist. Plz help,
Thanks,
tj

  • How do I access(read) dynamically generated reports with WebLogic WebServer

    Hello Everyone,
    In our application we are generating reports (pdf format) at run time. How do
    we read these files.....which directory should we store these files to... I am
    using Weblogic 6.0.
    These files have timestamp as part of their name so the names are not static.
    Thanks in advance.

    We ran into this also. If you read the J2EE specs carefully you will see
    that your app is only guaranteed to have write-access to a single directory,
    defined by the context attribute "javax.servlet.context.tempdir" -- I can
    find the exact reference if you want.
    Here is how to get this attribute:
    File tempdir = (File) getServletContext()
    .getAttribute("javax.servlet.context.tempdir");
    log.debug("context temp dir = " + tempdir.getAbsolutePath());
    Although this may seem horribly restrictive, it makes a lot of sense on a
    secure system where applications are deployed by a specific user, and may
    have at runtime minimal filesytem priviledges -- your app can't write
    anywhere, at the exception of the context temp dir. I know this would be the
    way I'd setup my container on a Unix system for example.
    So, what's a developer to do? You can either bypass the issue and always
    generate your content dynamically, with a servlet setting the appropriate
    MIME type to the output, or write your reports to the context temp dir and
    manually serve content from there.
    Frankly I think the first option is by far the most simple, easier to
    implement, and thus attractive; if it leads to a performance problem, you
    can always solve that with a Web cache. Doing otherwise (caching the content
    yourself) opens the door to many issues, that really shouldn't be your
    problem as a Web application developer. Keep it simple!

  • Error while running dynamically generated report

    Hello All,
    I have created report which returns sql query based on plsql function body. But when I run the report, it errors out as follows.

    Any idea why this error is coming up.

  • How to generate report with dynamic variable number of columns?

    How to generate report with dynamic variable number of columns?
    I need to generate a report with varying column names (state names) as follows:
    SELECT AK, AL, AR,... FROM States ;
    I get these column names from the result of another query.
    In order to clarify my question, Please consider following table:
    CREATE TABLE TIME_PERIODS (
    PERIOD     VARCHAR2 (50) PRIMARY KEY
    CREATE TABLE STATE_INCOME (
         NAME     VARCHAR2 (2),
         PERIOD     VARCHAR2 (50)     REFERENCES TIME_PERIODS (PERIOD) ,
         INCOME     NUMBER (12, 2)
    I like to generate a report as follows:
    AK CA DE FL ...
    PERIOD1 1222.23 2423.20 232.33 345.21
    PERIOD2
    PERIOD3
    Total 433242.23 56744.34 8872.21 2324.23 ...
    The TIME_PERIODS.Period and State.Name could change dynamically.
    So I can't specify the state name in Select query like
    SELECT AK, AL, AR,... FROM
    What is the best way to generate this report?

  • Generating report based on dynamically generated sql query

    I have to rewrite asp reports to oracle reports.
    The original application has forms in asp where reports are generated dynamically based on the options selected.
    There are many options to select.
    Some add filter criteria to where clause.
    I have no problem with this. As i can generate report using parameter form.
    whereas i don't know how to generate reports whose columns change based on the user selection.
    The front end screens are going to be in java and jsp pages. The only way i can think of is generating reports on all possible options the user may select. But, as there are more than 15 options, i think this is not the right approach.
    How can i achieve this.
    Thank you very much.
    navya.

    One method that comes to mind would be to use an after parameter form, and use lexical parameters to create dynamic statements.
    For example in your after pform:
    If :P_NAME = 'JOHN' then
    :P_SELECT = 'SELECT COL1, COL2 ';
    :P_FROM = 'FROM JOHN ';
    :P_WHERE = 'WHERE COL3 = 'JOHN';
    END IF;
    Then in your query, you could say:
    &P_SELECT
    &P_FROM
    &P_WHERE
    Something like that - If only parts of you where statement will change, you can just write that one part -
    like
    IF :P_STATE is not null then
    :P_STATE = ' and table.state = :P_STATE_IN ';
    else :P_STATE = ' and 1=1 ';
    end if;
    and in your query...
    where....
    &:P_STATE
    So IF a person enters a state, then limit the search to that state, or else do a 1=1.
    Hope this gives you a start

  • Dynamically generating the ssrs dataset and filling the data into the dataset and binding it to ssrs report dynamically

    I have a work to do, in ssrs we are using server reports in our project. i am looking for dynamically generating the ssrs dataset and filling the data into the dataset and binding the dataset to ssrs report(RDL) dynamically.
    Getting the dataset dynamically has a solution by using Report Definition Customization Extension (RDCE), but the problem is binding that dataset to the report(RDL) dynamically was not there.
    Here is the reference for RDCE http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/355461/Dynamically-Pointing-to-Shared-Data-Sources-on-SQL#6
    I looked for binding the dataset to the report(RDL) dynamically and searched many sites but i did not get the solution. Can anyone help me here.
    Is there any custom assemblies or any Custom data processing extensions to work around. Please help.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Prabha2233,
    Thank you for your question.
    I am trying to involve someone more familiar with this topic for a further look at this issue. Sometime delay might be expected from the job transferring. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

  • Dynamic generated SQLfor report regions

    is it possible to do the following to generate the sql statement of a report region dynamically?
    for example i have on page 1 some checkboxes ( to show or not to show columns of the report)
    checkbox1: show col1
    checkbox2: show col2
    checkbox2: show col2
    based on the selection of these checkboxes i would like to dynamically generate the sql content of a report region on page2
    Select col1, col3,
    from my_table

    Andy, thank you very much! this looks perfect to me.
    just one more question:
    Is it ( or will it be) possible to change the sql source of a report region itself dynamically
    my "dream" would be an object related approach like :
    reportregion_name.sql_source = v_sql;
    where v_sql is generated dynamically by a procedure or process.
    i had a look at ps/sql dynamic regions, but i have the feeling that i would loose all advantages of APEX ( like page rendering,...)

  • PLSQL processing of a dynamic sql report

    Hi there,
    I have a problem processing a dynamic sql report, specifically in referencing the PL/SQL column headings I have.
    Basically I have a report that generates one row for each project a person belongs to, and then using htmldb_item.text creates one field for each day of the week (sysdate - sysdate+6) so that people can enter their hours worked. The idea is they then press a submit button and the hours are entered into a project table something like (date_worked, project_id, hours_worked), one row for each entry.
    So I have:
    for i in 1..HTMLDB_APPLICATION.G_F01.count
    loop
    ... err... here I want to insert into the table the values(column_header, project_id, HTMLDB_APPLICATION.G_F01(i)).. but I don't know how to access that column_header value.
    Is this possible and if so, how?
    Many thanks,
    Tosh.

    that gives me the values of the text fields, but what
    I'd like to insert is the value of the column
    header... so for example:Yes, I understood what you meant. I did have a differect project_id for each INSERT in my SQL above. I guess that should have been day_id
    Since you are generating the tabular form SQL manually, you know which htmldb_item.text index corresponds to which column (which represents day_id in your case). So, use this to write 6 INSERT statements, one for each day. day_id would be a number going from 0 thru 6 where 0 represents Sunday and 6 represents Saturday.
    Bottom line: This is like generating/updating a calendar, your column headings are always fixed (Sun thru Saturday), just the date they represent would change.

  • Dynamic crystal report generation - issues with column headings

    Hi All,<br>

    appreciate your help.

    IField field = table.getDataFields().getField(i);
    Here you are getting the first field in the array.  This may not be the field you want to add since we aren't sure how the arrays are ordered when retrieving fields from the report.  It is better to retrieve the fields with the findObjectByName method, thus ensuring you are retrieving the field you want to add to your heading.

  • Change the source of place holder dynamically in report

    Hi,
    We need to assign values to place holder dynamically in report pages based on the page number.
    Basic requirement is to have dynamic images (generated in before report trigger with file name having timestamp and page number) in dynamic pages (getting repeated based on number of lines in the report).
    Is there any way we can have a place holder mapped to this field (Read from file, type: Image) and change the source dynamically when each page is formatted?
    Any pointers for this will be helpful.
    Thanks,

  • How to create dynamic web report in 10G Grid Control

    Hi experts..
    In OEM 9i, it provides a OEMgenerationServlet servlet to generate dynamic Web reports, my company uses the servlet to generate many OEM report, those reports cal also take parameters, such as dabatase name. the generated web reports are viewable to public end users. I am looking for a similar function in 10G Grid control...
    Does anyone have the similar requirement, any suggestion will be highly appreciated..

    Hi,
    Thank you for the reply. I read about Clear and Purge from Oracle Doc about 10gR2, but nothing about R1. I drilled down all the way, can't find any thing to click for clear and purge. And I can't find anything from Oracle Doc, either.

  • Generate report on server and open it in a client report viewer, possible?

    Hi guys,
    We are new to Crystal report so please feel free to correct me if I had the idea wrong.
    Our client-server application was written in a language other than Java and Dot Net. We want to use Java and Crystal SDKs to glue our application, the Crystal Report Server and Report Viewers together...
    We are planning to collect report parameters within the client of our own application (due to attributes of our application and parameters we need) and then pass it back to the server side (our server, not Crystal server). Our server will then generate a XML file and run a Java program talks to the Crystal Report Server (XI R2) to run a report with the XML file and store the result on the server side. Then it will send a message back to the client, tells it the report has been generated. Then our client program will fire up the Crystal Report Viewer to view the report.
    I was just wondering if it is possible to do what we wanted with Java SDKs that are available to us (JRC, Viewer SDK and Report Application Server SDK)? Has anybody done the similar thing before?
    Also we would like to have some drill-down reports with XML as report data source. Would it be possible to intersect drill-down event fired in a report viewer(Java and Web)?  I would imagine the report viewer will then call some Java program talk to our application server to generate XML file for the drill-down section and then some how programmatically tell the viewer to display the drilled down report with the XML file just generated...  Will my design work? Any advice or thought will be highly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Dong

    If you are using Crystal Reports Server, you can do almost everything you want using the RAS Java SDK.  RAS will accept XML as a runtime datasource, and then manipulate the report at the server end and render the report in the DHTML viewer.  If you want your client to call the viewer, have it call the JSP file that the viewer code has been added to.
    The RAS SDK doesn't have any ability to intercept or manipulate drill down events, so the second part of what you would like to do may not be possible.  Because our viewers are dynamically generated there is no source code to look at or use to make changes to the viewer outside of what is available in the viewer SDK.
    Below is a link to the developer library with the Report Application Server SDK that has sample code and tutorials to do what you need to do, as well as the Java Docs of the RAS SDK.

  • Dynamically generated parameter form

    We are dynamically generating the parameter form using a jave compiler.
    It takes a lot of time to come up for some reports and is quite quick on others. Has any folowed this approach and encountered the same issue.

  • Dynamic Oracle reports with queries

    I would like to know what the method is for dynamically enerating reports in Oracle, when you want to provide some values for certain fields, based on which the report is generated. For example, I may want the user to specify a range of dates, such as >7/12/00 and <12/12/00 or something, so as to generate a report giving the information for all records with dates lying in between those two dates...similarly, there could be some other
    fields for which also values could be specified as a range or a specific value.
    Can this be done by adding user parameter to the parameter form in Oracle reports? Otherwise, is there any way to connect an Oracle form to reports, which would allow the user to specify these criteria in the Oracle
    form, and then based on the criteria a report would be generated? If that is possible, I suppose, it would also
    be possible to provide a drop down list if necessary, from which the values for the
    fields/criteria could be selected. I don't suppose such a thing could be done by just adding user parameter to the parameter form...
    I would appreciate a response to this.
    Thanks.
    Suchitra

    I think it could be done with either of the two things you said. You could have them enter the dates in a form, then pass whatever they enter to the report using a parameter list (create_parameter_list built-in) and the run_product built in. Or you could have them enter the paramters in a parameter form. See the report "HOW TO CREATE A DYNAMIC REPORT USING LEXICAL PARAMETERS" under "Documentation" on the technet site for help. I'm trying to do similar things so I haven't quite worked it all out yet but I'm getting there.
    Good luck...
