Dynamically inserting data to make a report

Hi all, I am facing a problem with report generation. Currently I am making reports using excel templates. I am attaching the picture of sample template here. As you can see B22 is the location of item 1 and B23 is the location for Description 1. Space for description is fixed. Now B30 is the location for item name 2 and B31 is the location for item description 2. My problem is, if description of the item 1 is very small, that already allocated space will be waste.Or if Description 1 is very large, I cannot accomodate it in the given space. So I need item name 2 to come exactly under description 1, rather than fixing the space for item name 2 and subsequent rows. In short, the allocation should be dynamic, according to the size of the descriptions. Is it possible through LABView? Any ideas?
I dont need it to be done with excel only. I need that format of my quotation should be same thats all..Is there any other ways to do this?
Thanks in advance,
Suvin.

Do you need to show the measure calculated for those 18 months as a total on 1 row, or do you need to select a single month and then display on row filters 18 distinct rows?
The first is trivial as driezl has suggested.
The second will require a second calendar table.
I created this example workbook for a coworker who had a similar problem. You will have to use the disconnected table as your filter and pull your related table onto the rows.
Finally, the easiest way to deal with the sort of date arithmetic you need to do is to restructure your date table to have a series of "Sequential" fields. These fields should be the number of units of time since the beginning of your calendar.
For example, consider a calendar starting on January 1, 2010. For January - December 2010, [MonthSequential] = 1, 2, ..., 12. For January - December 2011, [MonthSequential] = 13, 14, ..., 24, and so on, incrementing by 1 for each sequential month in time.
Assuming you have this set up in your date tables (one related to your model - DimDate - and one disconnected - DisconDimDate) your measure would look like this:
18 Month Measure:=
CALCULATE( [Measure]
, FILTER( DimDate
, DimDate[MonthSequential] >= MAX( DisconDimDate[MonthSequential] )
&& DimDate[MonthSequential] <= MAX( DisconDimDate[MonthSequential] ) + 18
Please review this example along with the workbook I have linked above.

  • Dynamically insert data into PDF possible?

    This is the scenario and I am hoping someone can advise whether it is possible.
    We want to create a PDF fillable form. However there are a few fields that we want to be read only but to injected before the user downloads the PDF.
    e.g.
    There is a PDF form called contact details. Only registered users can download this form. So what we are trying to achieve here is when the user logs on and downloads this PDF, server side we want to inject their details into this form so that it is read only.
    In the lifestyle IDE there is a XML tab where I can see it drives the PDF.
    Is there like a tool of some sort where I can dynamically update the XML source and regenerate the PDF?
    Thanks

    Thanks sandeep for your quick reply.
    My req is
    Step 1:- invoke a webservice call and get the data from a website and store it into a table in xml format(CLOB column in a table)
    Step 2 :- Pick the xml data from table inserted by step1 and derive all the element values from xml data usning some xml functions
    2.1 go to configuration table(in this table we are storing the table name for each type of webservice call) and get the destination table name.
    2.3 insert the data into destination table.
    so our interface process is designed to serve for multiple interface webservice calls.it is not for a particular data.
    so in future if someone else want to download some other data then they need to add the configuration data into config tables and should be able to achieve the data download into tables.
    so step 1 and step 2 should be a coomon packages.
    i am involved in 2nd package where pick the xml data and insert into a table(destination table form config tablke)
    Thanks Ram

  • Insert data into table from report

    hello
    I have a report with "Forms Letter"style. I want to create 2 buttons say "APPROVE" and "CHANGE". When clicked on "APPROVE" button I want to insert some data into the table. And When Clicked on "CHANGE" button, I want to call one form. I am using oracle10g.
    Oracle 10g doesn't support button. Then what is the solution for my problem.
    Bye....

    as you correctly stated, reports does not provide buttons but you could use hyperlinks. openign a form, however, will be tricky. everything nees to be URL based.
    thanks,

  • Dynamic insertion of data in a Dynamic Column in a table

    Hi EveryBody ,
    I have a table where i am increasing the column dynamically . I need to insert data through PreparedStatement Like
    pst = con.prepareStatement(CBBsqlConstants.addOrderItem);
                   pst.setString(1,ein);
                   pst.setString(2,insert_date);
                   pst.setString(3,checkList);
                   pst.setString(4,Quantities);
                   pst.setDate(5,pick_date);
                   pst.setDate(6,completed_date);
                   pst.setString(7,comment);
                   pst.setInt(8,status);
                   pst.setString(9,agent_ein);
                   i = pst.executeUpdate();
    But here my column is increasing dynamically, so the above cant be constant as column is incresing . how do i handle the insertion part dynamically.
    Thanks So much . Please help with this .

    Ya you are right ,
    Take i am ordering some Items and quantity from checkbox and inserting that to the table , each item and quantity is going to consume a row , but when i am going have column for each item , all the items i am going to select is going to appear in a single row . so i am consuming .But only 256 column is allowed for a table ,but my item is not going to excced that . That maximum number of columns is the least of the problems here.
    The problem is that you are taking data that should be in another table and turning it into metadata instead. That's a mistake because it makes your entire application brittle and it doesn't need to be. It also will make querying your table a nightmare.
    Let's take a look at your solution and then the correct solution.
    Your solution (condensed)
    tblOrder
    id
    customername
    apples
    oranges
    bananas
    cherries
    Sample data (CSV format for the forum)
    1,"John Smith",0,0,0,1
    2,"Jane Smith",1,0,0,3
    3,"Kate Smith",0,2,1,0
    The correct solution
    tblOrder
    id
    customername
    Sample data
    1,"John Smith"
    2,"Jane Smith"
    3,"Kate Smith"
    tblProduct
    id
    name
    Sample data
    1, "Apples"
    2,"Oranges"
    3, "Bananas"
    4, "Cherries"
    tblOrderItem
    orderid
    productid
    quantity
    Sample data
    1,4,1
    2,1,1
    2,4,3
    3,2,2
    3,3,1
    So what's the difference?
    With your design what happens when you want to add a new fruit? Your schema changes and all your code breaks. With my design you simply insert one row and that's it.
    And what happens if you do happen to eventually need more than 250 odd fruits? With your design you are screwed. With my correct design it's never going to be a problem.
    And consider that with my design you can populate user inteface components using actual data and not table meta data.
    And the list goes on... the point is the only correct solution is to use a proper relational design.

  • Dynamic data source on 10g requires valid data source associated in report

    I'm currently using the dynamic JDBC data source feature of PublicReportService_v11 in BI Publisher 10.1.3.4.1 (March 2011 patch applied) and it seems that the BIP report still requires a valid JDBC data source associated with it before the specified dynamic one can be properly used.
    Using SoapUI, I tried sending a runReport request with a dynamic JDBC data source for a BIP report that is associated to an invalid/dummy JDBC data source and got the following fault string:
    oracle.apps.xdo.webservice.exception.OperationFailedException: PublicReportService::generateReport failed: due to java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon deniedAssociating the BIP report to a valid JDBC data source but different from the specified one on the runReport request does make this feature work - data in the BIP report does come from the specified dynamic JDBC data source. I'm just wondering if this is the right behavior for this feature? It seems a little counter intuitive because you already specified a JDBC data source in the request message which I'm assuming will be used by the report you're requesting instead of whatever is the currently associated data source on the report.

    ORA-06512: at line 7The problem is that your variable subject_obj is not in scope inside the dynamic SQL you are building. The SQL engine does not know your PL/SQL variable, so it tries to find a column named SUBJECT_OBJ in your SAM1 table.
    If you need to use dynamic SQL for this, then you must bind the variable. Something like this:
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'insert into op_sample (select id,name,:bind_subject_obj from sam1) ' USING subject_obj;Alternatively you might figure out to use static SQL rather than dynamic SQL (if possible for your project.) In static SQL the PL/SQL engine binds the variables for you automatically.

  • How to insert data into datagrid dynamically and also programatically with data and column names being retrived from a xml file..

    iam not able to insert data into datagrid corresponding to the column names..as iam inserting both data and column names programatically..ie iam not able to co relate the data with the column names.plzzz help me asap

    A DataGrid is row-based rather than cell-based with each row
    corresponding to an item in an underlying collection (specified in the
    dataProvider property). In order to add data to a DataGrid you
    manipulate the underlying collection, rather than the grid directly.
    Based on the limited description of your problem I would imagine you
    would need to create dynamic objects with property names that correspond
    to the dataFields of your dynamically created datagrid columns.
    So if you had created columns with dataFields "alpha", "beta" and
    "gamma" on your datagrid, you could create an item in your grid by
    adding the following object to your dataProvider:
    var gridItem : Object = new Object();
    gridItem.alpha = "alphaValue";
    gridItem.beta = "betaValue";
    gridItem.gamma = "gammaValue";

  • Is it possible to insert data into two Excel worksheets using Report Generation Toolkit?

    I'm using the toolkit to insert data into two separate worksheets in Excel using named cells. The problem is that it tends to favor one sheet or the other. In other words, one sheet will have data and the other no data and vice versa. (Sometimes I get data in both sheets.) Is there something I can do to clear this up or is what I'm trying to do unreasonable? I would like to use two worksheets so one sheet receives text and data. The other sheet is used to format the data into a printable report. (i.e. using Excel's CONCATENATE function) The second (report) sheet is also used to receive plots (JPEG files) from LabVIEW. I'd send the plot images to the first sheet, but I can
    not see a way to automatically transfer images from sheet to sheet. I'm using LV 7.1, Win2000 and Toolkit v.1.0.1

    Hi,
    You can use the "Excel Get Worksheet.vi" under All Functions >> Report Generation >> Excel Specific >> Excel General to specify a particular worksheet as the current worksheet. Then, you can specify which worksheet you want to write to in your VI.
    Let me know if you have any further questions and good luck!

  • How to make OBIEE reports available during the DB tables data refresh?

    Experts,
    We have our production ETL run for 2.5 days every month. OBIEE reports will not be available during the run. We have a requirement to make the reports available all 24 hrs 365 days. So, what we are trying is to copy all the fact/Dim tables to the new schema running in the same or different DB server and amend the connection pool to point this schema during the run. Here are my questions. Is this a workabale solution (or) is there better approach for meeting our requirement
    Regards,
    Sarvan

    I would suggest this option:
    Store the following connection pool values in a table and call them in your connection pool using Connection Pool Scripts
    Data Source Name
    User ID
    Pwd
    when ever you want to change db just you need to edit these values that would help your bi with no downtime.
    You might have to tweak it little bit if needed.
    More or less we have use sometime back to a client where they want to switch dbs dev to test to etc
    Try it out.

  • Inserting data into dynamic internal tables

    Hello everyone, i need some suggestions on the following problem:
    I have created a dynamic table that consist of storage locations(SL) belonging to a plant. Each record in the internal table would need to display all the SL on the same line. I have succesfully created it and displayed it on an ALV, the problem now is how to insert data for the dynamically created storage locations:
    EXAMPLE: Created dynamic itab
    colA | colB | SL1 | SL2 | ... | SLn | colC | <--header
    data | data | 100 | 120 | ... | 200 | data | <--record
    I would like to insert data from the fields of another itab into SL1 to SLn. How can i go about doing it?
    Data from ColA to ColC has been filled through:
    <i>loop at itab into w_itab.
    move-corresponding w_itab to <dyn_tab>.
    endloop.</i>
    I cannot do the same to the SLs as the fields is dynamically created during runtime and the fieldname is different from the data that i am to insert in into.
    Any ideas?

  • Javascript Question - How to Insert a Dynamic/Current Date into the Footer of a Scanned Document

    Hi!
    I am looking for help in finding a Javascript that would allow the insertion of a dynamic/current date into the footer of a scanned document at the time the document is printed.
    I am currently using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0 at my work and there has arisen a need to have a dynamic/current date in the footer on scanned documents when they are printed out on different days by different people.
    I am new to the Forum and I am also very new to Javascript and what this entails.
    Thank you in advance for your help and input!
    Tracy

    this.addWatermarkFromText({
    cText: util.printd("mmmm dd, yyyy", new Date()),
    nTextAlign: app.constants.align.right,
    nHorizAlign: app.constants.align.right,
    nVertAlign: app.constants.align.bottom,
    nHorizValue: -72, nVertValue: 72
    Will insert the current Monday/Day/Year as a text watermark at the bottom of every page of a document, 1 inch up and 1 inch in from the right corner.

  • Dynamically fetch data from database and display it in the report

    Hi,
    We have a requirement in developing a report which needs us to dynamically fetch data from the database and display it in the report.
    We have a column called WORKER in the report.
    For each worker there is a measure(PSA) associated with it.
    In the report we have to display both the WORKER and the PSA column.
    What we want is, when we display the list of the workers, the corresponding workerid_id of the worker will be passed and the value of his PSA will be fetched from the database and displayed in the report.
    Or anything similar to this.
    We also have drill applied on this WORKER column. So after any drill up or drill down also the value for PSA should change.
    Is there any way of doing this?
    Please help if possible.
    Thanks,

  • How do I make numbers automatically insert date of table entry?

    Hi, I am monitoring time spent on a computer, so every time I log a time on my table in numbers I want it to automatically insert the date of that entry in the next column, I do not know how to do this,
    I hope someone can help me resolve this issue,
    Sincerely,
    Henri

    Hi Henri,
    There is no way to have an automatic time stamp in Numbers. Once you double click on a cell you can go to Menu>Insert>Date & Time and get a time samp that way.

  • Insert a link on xml report. The link should open up a document(PDFS).

    Is it possible to insert a link in the report? The value would come from a sql query. The link when clicked on would open up the pdf or doc.
    Is this done thru a href or by inserting a dynamic hyper link.
    The release Release 5.6.2 documentation references how to insert a hyperlink. NOt sure if this will work for me.
    I tried it but in the documentation it states:
    >
    If your input XML data includes an element that contains a hyperlink or part of
    one, you can create dynamic hyperlinks at runtime. In the Type the file or Web page
    name field of the Insert Hyperlink dialog box, enter the following syntax:
    {URL_LINK}
    where URL_LINK is the incoming data element name.
    >
    However the dialog box I am getting when I insert the hyperlink does not have a place to enter the element name. That is, there is no 'TYPE the file or Web page' area that I can see.

    hi ashalon,
    I did it this way in MS Word.
    1. create placeholder for value
    2. highlight it and make it a hyperlink
    3. enter the url into the address line
    So If you have a complete hyperlink in xml element URL_LINK you just have to enter {URL_LINK} into the address line. If you have only a part of the link, i.e only a product name, you can enter "http://www.oracle.com?product={PRODUCT_NAME}".
    Hope this helps.
