E-mail - Mobile Device Priority

Like most people I review and manage my mail inbox whilst frequently on the move.
To do this I will use one of three devices to access my account either;
 Smart phone, Samsung Galaxy; or
 iPad Tablet; or
 Laptop.
The device I use, will depend on the degree of mobility and the amount of information that I need to process. So, I can be on one device one minute and a few minutes later using another device.
So, my question is this when managing my e-mails how do I ensure that the account information being read from any of the devices is kept in synch with the other devices; e.g. If I review my mail on the smartphone and delete certain e-mails, I don't expect to see the same e-mails still existing when reviewing the account from either the tablet or laptop?
If I read e-mails from the smartphone and then go to my mail account on the laptop e-mails will initially show as unread, but their true status can be received by clicking the 'Send/Receive' icon ('Inbox' menu option). However deleted messges stay exactly as though I had not deleted them from the smartphone.
On the phone under the settings there is a Synch setting which governs the synch frequency, currently set at 15 minutes during peak times.
I believe this question is somewhat similar to what Apple do ensuring that all devices are in Synch and managing consistency across devices. Welcome any comments on this query?
Cheers,
Logan_3
P.S. If I delete a message using the laptop and then click the 'Send/Receive' on the smartphone the 'inbox' is immediately updated.
Solved!

Hmm!
It appears I've not solved my problem.
Whereas changing these settings on the mobile will allow for deletion of messages from the inbox and keep the smartphone in synch with the laptop, the process will not force a synch between laptop and the tablet.
I agree that using imap settings would probably resolve the problem however the following are the mail setup notes from BT;
"here are the corresponding POP and SMTP settings you need to use to access BT Yahoo! Mail.
Note: If your mail client program already has one group of server settings and can't add new POP or new SMTP servers, you need to change the server settings to access your BT Yahoo! Mail account. Write down your current settings first—you may need to revert to them later if you want to use the same program to send and receive messages from your other email addresses.
Incoming mail server settings
POP server: mail.btinternet.com
Use SSL
Port: 995
Use the setting to leave mail on the server if you also want to access BT Yahoo! Mail messages in a browser.
Outgoing mail server (SMTP) settings
SMTP server: mail.btinternet.com
Use SSL
Port: 465
Use authentication
Account Name/Login Name: Your BT Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@btinternet.com" domain, for example, "jo.bloggs")
Email Address: Your BT Yahoo! Mail address (for example, "[email protected]")
Password: Your BT Yahoo! Mail password"
Also, digging elsewhere in the help you find the following;
Sign in to BT Yahoo! Mail.
Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the window, and select Mail Options from the menu that appears.
On left side of the page, click Mail Accounts, then at the top of the middle column, click + Add.
In the Add account window that appears, fill out the following information:
Account Name: Any name you'd like to give for this account (for example, Work, School, etc...).
Email Address: The email address on the external email server.
Click Continue.
This step depends on whether you want to send emails only, or both send and receive emails.
To send emails only: Select Skip this, set up to send only. Then you are done, and you just need to check the email address for a confirmation from Member Services. You'll be able to send emails from the new address once you've clicked the link in the email verifying the account.
To send and receive emails: Fill out the information in the Add accountwindow:
Username and Password: Please note that the user name is different than your email address. Typically it is the text in your email address before the @ symbol. Your password is whatever you use to access your external email account and not necessarily your BT password.
POP server: Enter your (POP) Mail Server name. This information should be obtained from your external email provider. Only POP mail servers are supported at this time.
Deliver email to: You can choose which folder to route messages addressed to this account.
Select any Advanced Optionsyou'd like to use by checking the appropriate boxes:
Use Filters: If you use filters, click a check in Use Filters to run all messages retrieved from your External Mail account through your BT Yahoo! Mail filters. Any messages that are not filtered will be placed in the folder you choose in the list labeled Deliver incoming messages to:.
Override default POP port: If your email provider uses a different Port setting on their POP server, you will need to edit this field. Note: If you are using an account that requires a secure connection (SSL), please use port 995.
Retrieve new messages only: Disabling this option may download all messages in the external email account each time you check the account from BT Yahoo! Mail.
Leave mail on POP server: Specify whether messages retrieved to your BT Yahoo! Mail account will also remain in your external mail account or whether they will be deleted from your external mail server.
Click Save.
Notice the text highlighted red!!
It seems using BT Mail Users at present would never be able to use multiple devices!

Is there a way to block unwanted e-mails and spam on your mobile devices?

This is generally handled by your e-mail provider, not your e-mail reader.
For example, I use Gmail and it filters spam before it ever gets to my inbox. If something does get through, I can move it to the spam folder on my iPhone to report it as spam.

  • Mail App Stationary Doesn't Scale / Resize on Mobile devices

Testing the Mail Stationary, for which I was very excited about, and found that it doesn't scale on mobile devices or even my desktop Mail app. Sent from Mail app on desktop and tried viewing on iPhone, iPad, and my desktop... all 3 devices required horizontal scrolling to view the entire message... while other email marketing messsages scaled just fine.
UPDATE: Found that in some cases it will scale if I open another message first and then switch back, at least on the iPhone and iPAd in landscape orientation.
What's up with Apple, or possibly me, that their own stationary doesn't scale on their own devices??  I haven't even tested on Outlook because I can only imagine the results (wouldn't it be ironic if it worked there??)
    Experiences?
Do the thrid party templates, Jumsoft or Equinox, work any better?

having exactly the same problems and made exactly the same experiences..
maybe one more: i checked Outlook - bouth for Mac and Windows. Outlook doesn't like attached images, they are visible in HTML but also attached like real attachments. put them on an webserver and add complete URL and your stationery will look fine.. in Outlook

  • Do the colored flags/ categories in mail transition between mobile devices?

Do the colored flags/ categories in mail transition between mobile devices? I haven't seen anything that seems like it would allow me to flag different mail items on my iphone to reflect the colored flags in mail that I have categorized on my iMac. I find that I have to go through twice to categorize my flagged mail with the colors I've designated on my iMac if it's flagged from my iPhone.
    Thanks.

I had the same issue, but with a macbook pro, imac, ipad and iphone 4G.
everything worked fine until the addition of the iPhone 4G which made disappear mails that had been donwloaded/synced by the iphone and/or ipad.
    However I found a solution:
In mail right click (ctrl left click) on the specific IMAP account inbox and select rebuilt.

  • How do I set iPhone so it isn't recognized as mobile device when browsing?

The great thing about having a smartphone, and especially the iPhone, is that it has a fully functioning Web browser. There are so many sites out there that still force the iPhone to display and use the dumbed-down mobile sites, however, and without the option to view the regular, full-function site. Contacting the sites' owners about it yields no results. What I'd really like to know is how to make it so that my iPhone is not recognized as a mobile device. I believe the Android has that option; why can't we have it?
The particular reason I'm asking is that I also use Yahoo business for e-mail, and Yahoo does not allow iPhone users to bypass their mobile mail site. Now, I know what you're going to say: just use the built-in mail feature. In fact I do, but the trouble is that I send and receive lots of mail in the course of my business, and sometimes I need to find a mail I sent a month or several months ago while I'm on the road. The iPhone search function can't help me with that unless I spend an hour downloading all of my sent e-mails from the past months first, and even then it sometimes doesn't find what I'm looking for. The mail search on Yahoo's Web site works perfectly (and quickly!) for that, but for some reason Yahoo doesn't allow me to switch from my personal Yahoo mail to my business Yahoo mail when using their mobile site. I can do so easily on their full-function site, but because I cannot hide that I am a mobile user, I can't access this functionality while I'm away.
I've already given my feedback about this to Yahoo multiple times, and nothing has been done. Please tell me how I can adjust this setting on the iPhone so that I can view the full-function sites as a non-mobile user.

When you access a web page, the browser will identify itself to the server as either the desktop or the mobile version and the server will send the appropriate page to the end device. In the case of the iPhone, Safari identifies itself as Mobile Safari, hence the mobile pages. This is very annoying and cannot be changed.
However, there are third-party browsers which could be set up to identify themselves as desktop browsers. I use the Atomic Web Browser which is fantastic as it has many improved features compared to Mobile Safari. Download it from the AppStore and, in the Settings menu, make it identify as Safari Desktop. It's that simple.

  • Is there a way to use my iPhone and iPad mobile email settings in a macbook air to utilize it as a true mobile device?

My company doesn't support macs, but the mobile mail works great on my iPhone/iPad.  The settings provided by my company enables syncing on my calendar, I can accept appointments, and my mail syncs perfectly and always faster than my DELL laptop wired to my network.
My question is this... I desperately want a macbook air as I travel ALL the time.  Can I use my mobile settings to send/receive/coordinate my calendar just as my iphone does on the macbook air?  I have a macbook pro and have been experimenting with the mail.app, and it can't connect to the mobile server to my company.
If the settings work so well on iphone/ipad, why can't I get them to work with the mail app on OSX?
First off, I'm set up as exchange on my iphone.
I enter my company email address, add my company user name, add my password, enter domain, and type in mobile.xxxxxxxx.com as my server... WORKS perfectly.
On the mail.app on my mac, there's no place to add domain, so I've tried to not add it, and also tried to put my domain behind my company username.  DOMAIN\USERNAME.
Mail can not connect to the server.
    Is a port issue?
I also tried to sync the account using itunes.  I currently have a gmail account, mobileme account, a yahoo account, and my company exchange account.  ONLY the mobileme and gmail account show up in the sync.
How do I solve this?  How can I make it work? Is there a mail client out there which makes OSX look like a mobile device for email/calendar applications???
I tried apple support, and I guess they can't wrap their heads around the fact that some companies still do not support mac.  Support was useless.
    HELP!!

Is there a way that I could use my (first generation) iPhone as a back-up modem for both notebooks?
    No.

  • The newest version of iTunes is awful when it comes to Cloud syncing-file management. I'm constantly frustrated with what iTunes 'chooses to eliminate from my mobile device and settings aren't fine-grained enough to allow for real user control.

I'm endlessly frustrated with iTunes Cloud syncing, something that was supposed to make lenjoying my music easier. I routinely find that, though itunes and podcasts have been split, iTunes arbitrairily removes music files or in progress podcast in favor of 'new' podcasts. The settings are just not fine-grained enough to allow true user control and so we are instead subjected to 'Apple knows best' protocols. I understand and appreciate the level of exacting control Apple excercises over their ecosystem, however, more and more often I see them tightening control over things that should be user control while dropping the ball on aesthetic desisions made in producing their own software (see the hideous pull down tab for iTunes to access Podcast, TV shows, Music, etc.
I would like to see features like those in Mail and the Podcasting apps implemented in iTunes afor the management of content on mobile devices, for instance it would be great to swipe to delete files that you know longer want on your device, at both the album and song level. Another issues is the new pushiness of iRadio and iTunes Store, the app now seems to default to the iRadio page (versus the last page Albums, songs, etc. that the user was navigating, or in the instance of the iTunes Store push, if I doon't have all the tracks of an album i own on my mobile device 'complete my album' takes you to iTunes store rather than showing the 'cloud' download icon next to missing tracks. These are the tactics I expect from Google, not Apple (pushing commerce over quality user experience).
    Fix these things Apple, please.

  • What is happening with iCloud and its sync with mobile devices?

I have been an Apple fan for 4 years now. I currently have 4 Macs (2 @ 27" and 2 @ 21.5" models), 2 iphones (4s and 3gs) and an iPad (2). I use them all for business and personal use.
Prior to purchasing my iPhone 4s on release day in the UK I was also a fully signed up Mobileme family account user. Everything worked fine. When I purchased my iPhone 4s I switched everything from Mobileme over to iCloud. Followed all the instructions. Initially it seemed to work fine. But over the last few weeks it has all gone horribly wrong resulting in the following; amongst other problems:
    iPhone 4s
My iphone 4s will no longer sync mail, contacts and calendar effectively. Mail will sync new mail in my inbox but I cant send any mail and when I do draft a mail and send it dissappears from the outbox, sent box and inbox (i always bcc mail). The number of contacts is a fraction of the number of contacts in my contracts file on my main Mac. Calendar will not let me sync or add any new entries...let alone sync with iCal on the Mac.
    iPad 2
My iPad suffers from much of the same problems as my iPhone. When I go to settings on the iPad and go to Mail, contacts and calendar, the iPad just freezes. I then have to hard re-set to get it working again.
    iPhone 3gs
I used this before I upgraded to the 4s. It suffers with the same problems as my 4s described above.
    iCloud.com
The number of contacts on iCloud.com is fixed at 1625no; whereas my Mac has a clean set of contacts containing 1325no. When I try to delete contacts on iCloud.com it says I cant because of a server error. Mail and Calendar both seem to work fine though.
I am now left with a major business critical problem. Niether iCloud.com, my Mac or my mobile devices will sync with each other. Apple has excalated the problem and my iCloud account is currently being tested. In the meantime my Mac contacts has duplicated and increased upwards of 4,000 contacts.
This whole journey of bad expereince is driving me insane and making my love of all things Apple wain.
I have restored my mobile devices about 8-9 times each. I have restored from previous versions stored on iTunes and also set them up as new devices....which as any of you will know is a laborious process because you have to reconfigure the Apps icons each time you do this as a new device! None of my attempts have fixed the situation.
Are we or have we been used by Apple as guinea pigs to test the iCloud which, according to the communities and discussions on this site, leaves a lot to be desired. This is having a dramatic affect on my quality of life and business.
    Please help me.....
    Mark

For the most part if you just get a new webhost you can continue to run with iWeb. Since you are still running Tiger iWeb should work just fine for you. You will simply need to publish your website to a folder or with the built in FTP in iWeb. Apple has simply quit updating iWeb & there will come a day when iWeb quits working in the later OS's whatever kitty comes after Lion.

  • Apple mobile device service has stopped working - continues

    Hi
I have a 16GB iPhone with 02 in the UK.
My first iPhone with 02 had trouble receiving calls with about 90% of incoming calls going straight to voice mail. I also couldn't backup that phone as every time I tried with iTunes, i got the message "Apple mobile device service has stopped working" about a minute into backup.
This happened continually, I re-installed iTunes so many times, still with little luck. I tried a different cable too. All on a brand new Dell Vostro desktop PC.
So, I took the phone back to 02 with these problems. 02 promptly replaced my iPhone.
Now, I have exactly the same problem. I obviously have nothing to restore on the iPhone as I was never able to back it up in the first place.
Every time I try and backup the iPhone I get the error "Apple mobile device service has stopped working". Again i tried a different cable and have removed and re-installed iTunes several times.
    Anyone any ideas?
    Regards
    D

I was having this same problem with my new iPad 3G. It was driving me insane and preventing me from syncing the iPad.
I removed and re-installed all Apple components from my computer as recommended (in the recommended order). But, the problem persisted.
The error message looked just like the one posted above:

The SOLUTION came when i discovered that there were two copies of CoreFoundation.dll on my computer.
One was in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support.
The other was in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support.
I removed the copy of CoreFoundation.dll from the Mobile Device Support folder, and the problem vanished.
    I hope this helps.

  • Can send but not reply or forward on all mobile devices

    Hi all,
I have a 2013 environment with MDM also in place. Just recently all mobile devices (iOS, Android, Windows OS) have stopped being able to reply or forward to emails on their mobile device. Nothing has changed in the environment that I'm aware of. The main
    factors are listed below.
    - OWA and Outlook access is functioning as normal.
    - Users can send and receive on their mobile device
    - When they try to reply or forward it fails with 'Cannot Send Mail. The message was rejected by the server'.
    - The user can then go into their Outbox and successfully send the email from there.
    - The issue is affecting SmartForward and SmartReply commands but not the SendMail command.
Within OWA I have recorded some logs using Settings -> Options -> Phone -> Start Logging
Within the logs the error/exception is as below.
    Command_WorkerThread_Exception :
    --- Exception start ---
    Exception type: System.ArgumentNullException
Exception message: Value cannot be null.

This appears to indicate there's an issue with the subject prefix being Null. However the issue occurs when emails have a subject and using transport rules I've set some test emails to prepend a subject to each email but that has not helped.
I've done quite a bit of searching online but can't find anything really that matches what I'm seeing.
Has anyone experienced  something similar before? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

  • Please tell me it's possible to download MP3 to your mobile device.

    Hello,
I'm simply trying to offer a downloadable podcast (MP3) through our Saba LMS for computer and mobile device.
So far, PC isn't a problem to download, but how can my user download the MP3 using their mobile device? I can only think that it has to be emailed to them, then accessed through their mail app and saved it there. I mean, how do you download anything w/ a phone/tablet? I couldn't if I was using a browser app (Safari, etc.) on my iPhone.
Does anyone ever need to do this? I'm sorry maybe it isn't possible at all to download MP3 from an LMS (or even public URL) to your phone, but I'm hoping I'm wrong. Thank you in advance.

Hmmm, wondering if you choose the right forum. Do you use Captivate, because this is a Captivate forum,

These are the instructions I posted to another topic with this same issue.
I had this same thing happen on 2 different laptops. I finally called Apple support and they walked me through the repair. Apparently there are compatability issues with Apple software update and Internet Explorer, so if that is your default browser, you will want to download Google Chrome, Firefox or some other web browser and set it as your default. You will still be able to use IE, if you don't uninstall it, but links from e-mail will open in your new default browser, unless you copy and paste the URL into the web address line.
These are the step-by-step instructions that the tech support person walked me through. She said that it is important that you do these steps in this order.
    1. Go to your Control Panel and open Programs and Features.
    2. Find and uninstall iTunes from the list.
    3. Find and uninstall Apple Software Update.
    4. Find Apple Mobile Device Support and REPAIR this file. This is the problem child, so you must repair it first.
    5. After you have repaired it, uninstall it.
    6. If Apple Mobile Device Support is not removed from your program list, restart your computer and go back into the Control Panel and Programs an Features. If the file is still there, repeat Repair and then uninstall. It should now be removed from the list.
    7. Restart your computer.
    8. Go back into your Control Panel and Programs and Features and then find BONJOUR. Uninstall Bonjour.
    9. Find Apple Application Support and uninstall it.
    10. Restart your computer.
    11. Upon restart, you may receive an "AppleSyncNotifier.exe - System Error" if you have iCloud attached to your account. This is normal and will be fixed when you reinstall iTunes.
    12. Using Google Chrome (or Firefox or Safari) go to www.apple.com and click on iTunes and then find the button to download iTunes. It will now install properly and be usable.
    13. If for some reason you are not able/allowed to change your default browser to something other than IE, then you should uncheck the box to automatically update iTunes during the install process or you may end up having to redo this fix.
Hope this helps everyone with this problem. I have now gone through this process with two of my laptops, both of them with successful results. If this does not work, I strongly urge you to contact Apple for additional assistance.

  • Can't get mobile device to auto configure the active sync server

    Hello
I am trying to get my costumer mobile devices to auto configure the active sync server name so they don't have to type it in. I believe I have everything in place Certificates are fine. I populated the external url on the active sync
    object in Exchange.
DNS is set up correct. I ran the Exchange Connectivity Analyzer and it runs perfectly. The only test step if fails on is the first attempt to contact the autodiscover service using just the domain name and that is because we have a
record in DNS so our domain name points to our public web server but all the other tests run fine. At the end, it even displays the xml file contents and shows me the external url of the active sync object.
I get a successful run but it first shows SSL certifiate of our public Web site and then hangs on the server config and then prompts me to enter in the server name and domain. My external url in Exchange looks like this:
    https://remote.domain.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
    Any Help??
    Eddie

Thank you for replaying but there is already internal A record that points to Exchange server. Firewall, DNS external and internal are setup like this:
    Firewall:
Port 443 and 25 points to Internal IP of our Exchange 2013 (only mail server in company).
    Port 80 not open.
    External DNS records:
autodiscover.mydomain.com à points to our WAN IP
remote.mydomain.com à points to our WAN IP
mydomain.com à points to external online webhosting
    Internal DNS records:
autodiscover.mydomain.com à points to ours Exchange 2013 internal IP
Remote.mydomain.com à points to ours Exchange 2013 internal IP
mydomain.com à points to external online webhosting
Test form "ExchangeConnectivityTest.com" is Successful but with warnings.
    Warnings are about https://mydomain.com/AutoDiscover/AutoDiscover.XML
    because
    https://mydomain.com is
pointing to website, which is hosted externally.
