E-mail Pages File

I can't e-mail a Pages file. When saved to the desktop the e-mail attachment is dimmed out and not available apparently to go out as an attachment....Yahoo Mail.

Only God and Steve Jobs really know this stuff...
When I saved my Pages file it did not give me an option of format...just saves it in Pages format. The Forum people said to Export it using the Export command which I did choosing Word as my destination and i noticed my Pages file when exported coming up with the word Zip under it. I assumed this made it easier to mail.
Anyway, it worked...for me that is...
I would think it would have been easier in the first place to combine the Export and Save/Save As commands...

  • Mailing Pages files from iPad 2

I want to send files from my iPad 2 to my laptop and destop Macs. Both are older, still running Snow Leopard. My process was to go to the document in Pages on the iPad, choose Send a Copy, choose Pages as the format, and then mail it to my account and open it on one of the other machines. The attachment, even a very short pages file, appears as a zip file but can't be opened with Stuffit expander or simply by clicking. There is an error message saying that the file can't be opened because the required index.xml file is missing. Can it really be true that you can't share a file in the same program between two Apple devices? I can send a Pages document TO the iPad and open it with no problem, but not the other way around. I thought I had been able to do it before, but maybe not, or else something has changed with updates to the OS.
I discovered that if I choose to create a PDF file, I can open that and then copy and paste the text into a Pages file. That's a workaround, but it still seems wrong that I can't simply send and open a Pages file. Is there a trick?

Do you have "use iCloud" turned on on the iPad? (in settings)
And on your computer, If you open iCloud and turn on Documents and data?
This will auto sync your Pages documents between the devices each time you open pages.
I can work on a document on one device.  Open and print on another.  Each time I open pages the documents all update.

  • I updated to pages 5.0.1 and now Mail won't attach pages files

How do I attach and send pages file via mail?

    I don't think it's that straightforward...
Pages now stores a document in a package (a folder that looks like a file). Mail clients will either allow you to attach the package, but read it as a folder and send the individual files within the package to the email server, breaking the structure, or they will attach only the folder itself (no contents).
For browser-based email clients, like gmail, they don't normally have permission to read the contents of a folder you select so can't upload them. So, they upload just an empty folder. This will affect browser-based mail services generally including Yahoo, etc.
So, in terms of a fix, this will need either security changes in browsers per se, OS X to convert the package to a file on the fly when it is read by certain apps, the format changed back to a single file or some such other approach.

  • Need help to share Number/Pages file visa Mail option. Cannot do with iPad Air (iOS7)

Need help to share Number/Pages file visa Mail option. Cannot do with iPad Air

Oh, okay. After selecting the format I want to send, it says "creating... ". Then irrespective of the format I choose the message e.g. "creating spreadsheet" disappears, and so does the choice window (where I earlier chose Mail). I am taken back to the Numbers (or Page) where I had started from. Diavonex's note indicated that after "creating ... " stage I should be taken to an option where I can type in email address where I want to  send the  file, if I want to copy it to another address etc. I cannot arrive at that page - no matter whether I am working with Pages or Number, or which format I choose for the file to share !
I will try to close as you have suggested and try. However, I have switched on and off several times by now, but nothing changed!
Will look forward to any ideas to solve this !!!
    Thanks much!

  • How to mail Mac Mavericks Pages-files to a gmail address?

I can't send  Pages files from my Mac with Mavericks and updated Pages  to a gmail address anymore.
The only thing that works is to send a Word file, or better, send the Pages file from iPad with iOS 7.
    Any solution?

Can you explain what you are trying to do, and which steps are failing?
If in Pages, you select the Share button and 'send a copy' via email and thne select Pages format and Next, on my system a new email is created with the pages document attached allowing me to send an email to any address.
Or also sending the file the the tradtional way, by starting a new email message in Mail and then attaching the Pages file.
    Both methods work here.

  • Cannot open Pages File, Please HELP

    Hi,
I've just had disaster happened to me. I've moved about 1GB of data from computer for Flash drive. When attempted to eject thumb drive, it kept saying, drive is in use. Stupid me just removed that drive. Using Data Rescue I've managed to recover the files, but.... All of them are corrupt
Most important file to me is Pages document I was working on for the whole day. I can see files inside 'package' of that .pages file, but none of them could be opened.
Is there a way of repairing that file? Or at least, is there a way of extracting text from it, that's what I care about the most...
    Any help, suggestions is appreciated....
    Thank you all!

    Hello
How is your flash drive formatted?
I assumes that it is not in a format correctly treating packages.
When we have to copy a document made with an iWork application, it is safe to pack it as a zipped archive.
Doing so get rid of a lot of problems.
In a Pages document, we may see:
a -- a subfolder named Contents and an other one named QuickLook. Don't touch them.
b -- several picture files corresponding to images inserted in the document.
When the doc is in good health, double clicking these files open them in their creation application.
c -- index.xml.gz which is a packed version of the XML file describing our document.
If we double click it, it expands as index.xml which may be read in any XML aware application.
I met some Pages documents whose all items open perfectly but whose the XML file appears as corrupted for Pages.
It seems that something was wrongly described when the file was created so that Pages is unable to re-read it.
May you pack one of your odd files as a zip archive, attach it to a mail and send it to
koenig PERIOD yvan AT tele2 PERIOD fr
I would look at its components and if it appears to be the kind of described corruption, I wish to be allowed to send it to Apple.
I assumes that with some samples of corrupted files they would be able to identify what is the wrongdoer.

  • Reading XML data from .pages file

    Hi All!
I've been trying to get a script up and running, but frankly I'm lost. The script should read the date, lesson no, and name fields from a .pages file and then use that information to send an e-mail.
What I'm having a problem with is reading the data from the .pages file and I don't know what the best way to do it is because I'm still a novice at this.
So there are two ways I can think of:
    1. Read directly from the Pages document when it is open. The problem with this is that it's a Pages template and it contains tables. Perhaps the easiest thing would be just to select certain cells directly from pages, but I have no idea how they're labeled or how to access them so I came up with a second idea. If you happen to know how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it.
    2. Pages documents can be unzipped and one of the files is an xml file with a lot of tags and the data I need. I found the following post that talks about how to parse XML via an XSL stylesheet. After going through some tutorials, I got stuck because the xml itself in the Pages file is just a mess to me and I'm confused about which node to choose. In other xml docs you can see a clear, nicely laid out tabbed structure so you can at least figure out the path to the node you want. I stumbled across a nice script for TextWrangler which cleans up XML, but it just barks at the Pages file.
    3. On top of that, I will need to use the name field and match that with an Address Book e-mail address. Should I change the template and make it into an address book field?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

The script should read the date, lesson no, and name fields from a .pages file and then use that information to send an e-mail.
Maybe you might want to try the following script:
    tell application "Pages"
        activate
tell foreground layer of page 1 of front document
select (text box 1 whose vertical position < 0.5)
            tell application "System Events"
                keystroke "c" using {command down} -- ⌘C
                keystroke "a" using {shift down, command down} -- ⇧⌘A
            end tell
            set theText to the clipboard
        end tell
    end tell
set TID to AppleScript's text item delimiters
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to tab
set theTextFields to text items of theText
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to TID
    set {theDate, theLessonNo, theStudent} to {item 2, item 4, item 6} of theTextFields

  • Pages files that are emailed to me - cannot open

When someone emails me a pages file, I am getting an error message:  "filename.pages” can’t be opened.
Sender and myself both using Pages 5.0.1
    Thanks!

The new .pages file format for Pages 5, iCloud and iOS 7 is an odd bundled archive which is misread by most non-Apple servers, such as DropBox, GMail, Amazon etc.
    Try sending with Mail.

  • Mail merge file type

hey i just created a mail merge file using pages. I succesfuly created a pages document with all the pages containing all the infirmation for each individual. The problem is, how to I send the content as an normal email, without having to end them as pages, word or PDF file?
    Thanks

Mail merge is for sending Pages, Word, Pdf etc document attached in a mail. It doesn't put the content of the document in the mail text layer. For that you have to go to Mail and open one new mail document and add what you want to send and then in the To field you add all the addresses you want to send to. If Mail can do it in a niftier way you have to ask in the forum for MacOs x ...> Mail

  • What is the easiest way to get the data from the mailmerge to form Pages files that can be saved separately?

Using Iwork 09 I have spent several hours setting up a mail merge from a spread sheet in Numbers to create receipts for my customers from a Pages template.
After the merge I am left with one long Pages document that will not save as separate files; one per customer, it will only save the whole document of several receipts.
What is the easiest way to get the data from the mailmerge to form Pages files that can be saved separately?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Richard

    Mr. Clark,
You will probably be more pleased with the iWork apps when you begin to learn your way around. Until you learn such basic things as how to print only one page of a document, you will probably continue to be disappointed.
Does your Print dialog look like this:
    Or like this:
If it looks like the first one, then you will want to click this expander control:

set the wake-on lan on the main computer
The laptop's too far away from the router to be connected by ethernet. It's all wifi.
No separate server app on the laptop, it's all samba
The files are on a windows laptop and a hard drive hooked up to the windows laptop. The windows share server is pants, so I'd need some sort of third party server running. Maybe you weren't suggesting to use Samba to connect to the windows share though?
I'm glad that you've all understood my ramblings and taken and interest, thanks The way I see it, I can't be the only netbook user these days looking for this kind of convenience, and I certainly won't be once chrome and moblin hit the market.

  • Pages files crashing/error message

I've been having trouble today with certain files crashing within a few seconds after being opened. I get an error message, one I've never seen before, saying that Pages quit while using the SF word processing plug-in. Curiously, all of the files that crash are in one folder, of 10 to 15 I've randomly tested from various folders, only about 5 or 6 from this one folder are affected. In other words, this is not a universal problem with all Pages documents. Of course, these would be important business-related files! I can recreate them and am experimenting with strategies like downloading an attachment on which one of the files was based, mailing to a different email address, using a thumb drive to transfer and open it on a different computer, then transferring it back, to see if the problem recurs. I started having this problem just after doing a software upgrade on March 23. This may just have been a coincidence. Does anyone know what's going on and how to solve it?

My OS is 10.6.7. As for the update, it was whatever popped up automatically when I first used the computer this morning.
I've been experimenting since the first post. I thought I had a workaround. I created a new Pages file using an attachment of a source document. I opened the attachment and created the Pages file on my MacBook, then exported the document as a Word file, emailed it to myself from one email address to another, and opened it on the desktop. I opened it first as a Word document, then did a copy and paste to create a Pages document. It didn't immediately crash, but after I had worked on it, closed it, and reopened it, it crashed within a couple of seconds—closing both the document and the application. This is still only happening to selected files. I have opened, closed, and reopened several others but had no problems.

  • Why does Pages file explodes in size?

When I attach a 1.1 MB Pages file to a mail: why does the file grows to 14,3 MB??? Even a normal blank pages document of 63 KB becomes 9,5 MB when attaching it to an email?!!!
    What am I missing?

There has to be graphics in there somewhere to make it that big.
Do you have Captured pages (the master sections) with graphics in them, possibly repeating, in the document?
If you like click on my blue name and email me the document and I'll look at it.

  • Can't get my e-mail pages to turn to landscape when turning my Touch

I'm not sure what I did, but I can't get my e-mail pages to go horizontal when turning my iPod Touch.
I'm using the most recent software. It came with 1.1.4 and I remember it being able to do that with the older version....has something changed?
    Thanks for any help.

Don't think so. I don't believe mail ever went into landscape mode (but excel or word files as attachments do)

Hello, May pages wont share via mail. The option is there but when I click on it it just double flashes then nothing happens. It used to have a mail page pop up with the file chosen attached. Can anyone help. In the same bar there is a export option. This works.

The Pages '09 v4.3 Share > Send via Mail feature is no longer operational in Yosemite 10.10.3. You will need to export in the file format that you want to attach to your email, and then drag/drop that exported document into Apple Mail. Additionally, the installation of Photos in 10.10.3 now disables any access to pictures from the Media tool, so images will need to be drag/dropped, or inserted in Pages '09 v4.3.
Despite the above, Pages '09 v4.3 still has over 100+ features/functionality than Pages v5.5.3 on Yosemite. That means that if you open a Pages '09 document in Pages v5, what is not supported will either be mangled, or removed from the original document. And, the Pages v5 documents are not directly backwards compatible to Pages '09.
Not much of a bargain updating to Pages v5, which is not even based on Pages '09 v4.3.
