E-mail sends from wrong e-mail address

I'm having problems sending an e-mail from a specific e-mail account. I've bee using one account mainly, but I received an e-mail in another account. I hit reply, and typed in my response, hit send. However, the e-mail got sent by my main account (the one I also set to be my default account in the mail settings, however, I thought that was for times like sending a link from safari). So, I'm a bit confused, how do I choose which e-mail to send from, I thought you select the e-mail account and hit the button, but if I hit reply from one e-mail account, why did it send with the other?
Alex
Edit: If it matters, the the e-mail account that got the message I was responding was an att yahoo account, I heard people have had issues with push so I'm not sure if that's the problem, and my main e-mail is a gmail account. Though it did send, just from the wrong e-mail.

Quick Update:
When I send an e-mail from a different e-mail account (my other gmail account), it sends it from its own server. However, it still doesn't work with the att.net account. My yahoo account just doesn't send anything from anywhere, no traces.

  • Mail sending from wrong gmail address

I have multiple gmail addresses that I send from: one for work and one for personal. The email addresses are very similar, but for an additional ".am" suffix on the username of the work account. When I want to send an email from my work account I switch the "from" field to my work address, but it still gets sent from my personal address. The only workaround I've found is to force the work address into my "reply to" field. This still has the mail coming from the wrong account, but at least responses to the mail go in the right account. I do not have this problem when sending mail from other domains, nor do I have this problem when sending from my iPhone. I have my Gmail accounts set up with identical POP settings.

Yes, this is the "Mail and Address Book" forum after all!

Start Mail, go to Preferences / Accounts.
For each account set the Outgoing server to be smtp.gmail.com:XXXXX - XXXXX being the user name you want send from.
    Tick: Use only this server.
Now you should be a happy camper.
I tried that. It causes my outgoing servers to go offline, and I couldn't send mail from either gmail address. My current workaround is to send the mail from another domain. I don't know if there are any disadvantages to this down the line.

  • Mail sending from WRONG EMAIL

Hi. I'm using 2 gmail accounts and when I send an email from one, the user receives from my other account. It doesn't happen all the time, and has only been happening recently. It's strange because after the 1st time, I started checking that drop down box that asks which email I want to send from, and it is set correctly. This even occurs sometimes when I reply to an email, which by default will send emails from the address that the email was sent to. Also, I know something is wrong because 1 email address has a signature that states the email address it came from, while the other email address has no signature at all. When I get replies to the email I sent, it shows my signature, but is replied to my other email address. Has anyone else run into this issue? Are there any solutions? It's quite frustrating.

The pulldown menu in the message composition window that selects account doesn't select the smtp server for that account, you have to go into Mail Prefs to ensure which smtp server is associated with which account.
Go to Mail Prefs, Accounts and select each gmail account one at a time and check the following: In the Account Info panel, check that the outgoing mail server (smtp) is the one you think it should be.
I'm assuming that gmail requires a username/password to send a message; the server for each account would be listed something like: smtp.gmail.com:username1 for the first account and smtp.gmail.com:username2 for the second gmail account.
If they're not what they should be, open the outgoing mail server (smtp) pulldown menu and either select the correct server or choose "edit server list" and fix it. Also consider clicking the "use only this server" checkbox for both accounts.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mail sending from wrong Mail.app gmail account

I've got about 5 different gmail accounts in Mail.app -- two are actual gmail accounts and three are @mywebsite.net that I host through Gmail.
Up until recently everything was fine but now it seems all my mail is being sent from one gmail account, regardless of which account I choose to send from.
To the right of the "From:" dropdown menu is another dropdown, but mine is filled with indistinguishable "Gmail" names, maybe there's a way to edit those to make it more clear?
I've just spotted there's a way to set a default "From" email address in the prefs but I'd prefer not to always send from the same address... as in, that's the point of having so many emails in the first place. I've already sent out a bunch of business emails from my personal accout and confused a whole lot of people so it would be great to have this sorted soon.
    Thanks,
    Connor

I just went through this with 4 email addresses, and the solution seems to be in how your SMTP servers are setup. Here's how to fix it:
Go into preferences and under the account tab, click on your first account.
In the "Outgoing Mail Server" dropdown near the bottom, click "Edit SMTP server list"
Go through each server in this list and 1) make sure it has a meaningful name and 2) that the correct login info is entered under the advanced tab. Mine were jumbled up, with some being identified as one account but having login info for another.
Once this is straightened out, select each email account (we're done with the SMTP list at this point) and select the server from the dropdown list that you just verified and check "use only this account".
Once all addresses are associated only with their servers, you should be all set. Now you won't have any account accidentally loging in with the wrong credentials just to send. Why this isn't the default functionality is beyond me.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mail sends from wrong address?

    Hi,
This problem has happened twice recently, and goes something like this:
I have a few accounts on Mail.
My main account ("A"), I use for most things. Today, I sent an email from "A". This email shows in the outbox for account "A", and shows at the top of the email as having been sent from "A"; but when the reply came back from the recipient, they had replied to account "B", and the original email shown attached to the bottom of this reply showed my email had actually originated from account "B".
Make sense?! Essentially I send the email from A, Mail shows this as having been sent from A, yet it has actually been sent from B.
    FRUSTRATING!
Any ideas how I can fix this? I use different email for personal/professional etc., and it's inappropriate for professional recipients to be getting my personal address.
    Thanks,
    Mike

I'm having this problem, and Erie's "information" is not helpful as advice.
I have a personal Gmail and my school account which is also administered by Google. Both would have the same SMTP server, obviously. Both worked fine with no errors when I used Thunderbird.
Bought a Mac, use Mail, now I'm getting professors responding to my personal emails.
In fact, slightly off topic, I'm finding that the much mythologized Mac is not nearly what it's cracked up to be. I've had recurrent extensions problems, permissions problems, network problems, have had to reinstall iTunes half a dozen times (because iPhone suddenly stops syncing) and yesterday the computer just wouldn't boot.
I'm entering this from my PC as I have to completely repair and reinstall the Mac from the system disc. I think Apple just does a better PR job controlling their flaws, and there is a much smaller pool of people to complain, and if you can afford and pay for a Mac, you probably can afford a Time Capsule, so it's easier to recover; and you feel justified in your investment, therefore you don't admit to anyone that you have Mac problems.
If I'm going to have computer problems either way, next time I'll have them on a $350 PC instead of a $900 Mac.

  • Invalid Certificate Microsoft Outlook cannot sign or encrypt this message because you have no certificates which can be used to send from your e-mail address.

    Hi,
I have a problem when trying to sign emails with an X.509 certificate in Outlook 2010. I constantly get the error message. The certificate is Verified for the email address I'm sending from.
    "Invalid Certificate
Microsoft Outlook cannot sign or encrypt this message because you have no certificates which can be
used to send from your e-mail address."I have no problem with signing documents in Word 2010 with the same certificate, only when trying to send email.Every check I can perform confirms that there's nothing wrong with the certificate. Yet, Outlook still says it is invalid.I have even tried installing a second X.509 for the same email address just to check. Outlook doesn't seem to like either certificate.I know this has been posted before, but I'm completely stuck here. Thanks,~Dan

    Hi,
You may have checked the option "Encrypt contents and attachments for outgoing messages" in Outlook, please uncheck this to test if the problem persists.
File -> Options -> Trust Center -> Trust Center Settings -> E-mail Security -> Clear the checkbox "Encrypt contents and attachments for outgoing messages" -> OK.

  • Adding attachments to the mail send from XI

    Hi all,
How can we add attachments to the mails send from XI?
    Regards,
    Satpreet Singh

    Hi
Do the Mail Receiver Adaptor Configuration as mentioned.
Choose any of the options suiting to your requirements. All the options shall give attachments in one way or the other.
    1) Choose Message Protocol   = u201CXIALLu201D
The mail will go to the address mentioned in Mail Attributes in the adaptor as two attachments. The file something like ATT123.xml will contains all the system information and another file u201CpayloadXXXu2026..xmlu201D will contain the input file you give.
    2) Message Protocol =   u201CXIPAYLOADu201D with u201CMail Packageu201D
If we check u201CKeep Attachmentsu201D in u201CMail Attributesu201D then, the content will be sent as an attachment otherwise, the content will be sent as body of the mail.
    3)Message Protocol =   u201CXIPAYLOADu201D without u201CMail Packageu201D
The content will go as attachment even though u201CKeep Attachmentsu201D is not checked. If u201CKeep Attachmentsu201D is not checked then the attached file name will be same as that of the subject we have given in the Subject in Mail Attributes.
If the checkbox u201CKeep Attachementsu201D is checked, then the attachment file name will be u201CPayloadXXXXu2026.xmlu201D irrespective of the input file name.

  • How to check the success/failure of e-mail sending from Sharepoint?

    Dear Expert,
I connect Exchange 2010 and SharePoint 2010. When user create workflow in sharepoint, it will send the email to confirm. if it's done. but I checked from user they didn't get the email. I would like to know how to check the success/failure of e-mail
    sending from Sharepoint?
    Thank you

By default, there is no logging mechanism in SharePoint for outgoing mails.
Mails in SharePoint are sent by giving an SMTP sever IP address in Central Administration. SharePoint never sends email directly. It relays or routes mails to the SMTP server. So, logging should be done in the SMTP server itself.
There is also another way of doing it. You can enable SMTP service of IIS for sending emails from SharePoint, which would also just relay the mails to an SMTP Server. But in this case, you can enable logging in your IIS SMTP Service. Please visit this blog
    for more details.
In your case you need to check your exchange server for any failure for relaying mails.

I have made a mess of things. I can no longer send from my apple mail since icloud.  My outgoing mail remains offline no matter how I reconfigure it.
How do you check your tls certificate?  Is is me.com or mac.com?

  • HT2623 How to make my full name disappear when sending from my primary email address.

I would like to make my full name disappear when sending from my primary email address. so the recipient when receives my email can see only my email address, i.e. email address of the sender. In Preferences, Accounts, my full name is greyed out and I cannot change it. If I try to do Custom, it would let me change it, i.e. delete my name from Full Name box, but then when Mail is closed and reopened, it would lose the previously saved Custom setting and go back to the same. All my other aliases associated with this email account work ok and the receiver sees only the email address.
Does anyone know what is going on?

What if you remove the .mac account from the Accounts panel under mail Preference?
If that doesn't work, sign into the webmail at me.com, click the "sprocket" button and select preference, in preference go the the aliases tab see if you can remove the email address with your name. If not, go to composing tab see if there is anything you can remove from the +Identity: send email as field+. Good luck.

  • Sending from a different email address

I need to be able to send from a different email address (not @me.com) from icloud.com mail but it wont allow me.  I teach at a university and need to be able to email from my school address and using the old mobileme interface I was able to do this.  Now I cannot email out from my school email address through icloud. Is there a way around this?  The school only allows you to email your class mail list from you school email address and now I cannot email my class from icloud.   Please help.  Unforunately, I have to use PC's at school so I am only working from the icloud.com mail.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There shouldn't be any reason you can't use additional email accounts alongside your iCloud account, I do.
Do you still have your alternate account set up on the iPhone, settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Accounts.

  • Mailing photos from iphoto through mail

When I mail photos from iphoto through mail, it sends the picture at very low resolution regardless of the setting I choose (small, medium, large, actual). How can I send photos to others at viewing or even printing quality? Can I resize the pictures to my specifications as I used to be able to do on my PC? Through ACDSee I could resize to 50% which would be small enough to send quickly but still high enough quality for the recipients to view and even print. Thanks!

    drjoan
After iPhoto has created a new Mail message have a look at the bottom right hand corner of the Mail Message window - there's another control there for sizing the pics... try play with that one to find the size you require.
You can access your photos for sending in Mail too. In the New Mail Message Window there's an icon on the toolbar that will show you your iPhoto library.

  • No problems with iPhoto 11,UNTIL I downloaded Lion. Now,I cannot e-mail from iPhoto. The "do not recognize user/password"message.I like to -mail directly from iPhoto, not Mail. Anyone having this problem? Thanks for the assistance

My iPhoto e-mail has been working great;UNTIL I upgraded to Lion. Now,I cannot e-mail directly from iPhoto. I prefer to e-mail photos from iPhoto, not Mail. I sure appreciate anyone's help. Thanks

1 - unless you tell us more then anything would be a wild guess - what happens? what error messages do you get?
and why would you use iPhoto rather than Mail anyway - mail has more templates, has a sent mail box, uses you address book lists and lets you control the message format so PC users can receive photos - and works for everyone

  • How do I block unsolicited e-mail(s) from unsolicited senders? Why isn't there an auto option that simply pops up and asks if you wish to block this sender from future e-mails? I am so tired of my e-mail address being sucked out of a friends address book,

How do I block unsolicited e-mails from the sites that have stolen my e-mail address from a friends address book, and send me non-stop horrid e-mails. Why is there no pop-up to ask if "want sender blocked", to easily solve this problem? Seems like it would be such an easy solution to what must be a universal problem with these e-mail pirates.

It is frontiernet.com that would need to block the emails.
You can setup a Mail "Rule" to send email you do not want into the trash, or a spam folder, etc...
In fact, there is a Mail -> Message ->  Mark -> as Junk Mail, which will train Mail to reconize junk mail and start to automatically move it to a junk mail folder.
You can put this option on the Mail toolbar via Mail -> View -> Customize Toolbar, and drag the "Junk" icon to your Mail Toolbar.
But of course Junk takes training.  You can create a Rule to trash the emails you do not want right away via Mail -> Message -> Add Rule, or Mail -> Preferneces -> Rules

  • Mountain Lion Mail - Replying From Wrong Email Address

    Hello-
In Mountain Lion Mail, when I click reply to an email, the FROM filed is the same account the email was sent to.
If I have a rule applied to a message that delivers it to a different folder when it arrives, if I click reply, it uses my default email address, and not the email address the message was sent to.
To be clear, if I hit reply to a message that doesn't have a rule applied, then the action works fine, and it uses the email address it was sent to.
The problem only happens when I have an incoming email routed to a different folder in Mail, based on a set rule in preferences.
Driviing me crazy of course. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

I reported this problem to Applecare and reached a CPU Senior Technical Advisor (2nd level support), who was able to duplicate the problem.  He reported the problem to Engineering, which got back to him with the following information:
Engineering was aware of the problem
No decision had been made regarding when or if the bug will be fixed.
He suggested that I also report the problem to <http://www.apple.com/feedback/>, which I have done.
I would like to suggest that the other poster to this thread also report the problem through the feedback page (pick the Mac OS X option and select Mail on the feedback form).  The more people who report this, the sooner Apple is likely to fix it.
Here is what I wrote in part: "The reply function does not work properly in Mac OS X Mail when I reply from any mailbox other than Inbox.  When I reply to an e-mail that is in any other mail box other than Inbox, Mail selects the default e-mail account to put into the "From" field instead of the e-mail account to which the original e-mail was sent.  This worked properly in Snow Leopard and Lion, but is broken in Mountain Lion."  I also gave the Case # of my report to Applecare.
