EA1 - Syntax highlightling of PL/SQL files

Syntax highlighting of pl/sql files with the file extensions '.pls', '.plb', '.pks' and '.pkb' file extension does not work. However, syntax highlighting does work with files with '.sql' file extension. Is there anyway to enable it for files containing pl/sql?

You have to associate the file types, but sadly EA1 has a known problem with these preferences. Wait for EA2...

  • EA2/EA1 - Exception with PL/SQL files open

    When opening a PL/SQL file (.pkb, .pks, etc), I get the following exception appearing in the Logging Page's Log tab multiple times:
    SEVERE     151     0     oracle.dbtools.raptor.utils.Connections$ConnectionKey     null
    This does not appear to affect the functionality, but looks as though it is generated simply by moving cursor over the contents of the file - generating lots of exceptions the same as the first, with the exception of the Elapsed column which is normally around 30.

    My experience with this error seems bound to local files only. As of yet, I do not see this issue when I edit a package that exists in the database. I usually edit my files locally with sqldeveloper, then use sqlplus to compile the pks/pkb files. Editing local files will throw thousands of these errors (FATAL, by the way) ... even .sql files throw the same error for me.
    I hope this helps isolate the issue. It seems as though sqldeveloper is expecting a connection to the database object regardless if the object being edited is local or within the database.
    This is the beta release of sqldeveloper.1.5.0.51 Build MAIN-51.70. Great work, BTW!! I couldn't wait =D

  • EA1 - Exception when SQL Developer opens SQL files on startup

    If I close SQL Developer with a file open, that file is automatically reopened when restarting SQL Developer. This works fine, but for each .sql file which does open, I get the following exception listed in the Logging Page's Log tab:
    SEVERE     147     0     oracle.ide.IdeCore     Exception firing mainWindowOpened to oracle.dbtools.sqlworksheet.sqlview.SqlEditorController$2@xxxxxxx
    This doesn't happen for PL/SQL files (ie .pks, .pkb, etc) - just for .sql files.

    Fixed this in development code. Thx.

  • Andrew - one more doubt in the donsample.sql file,it is urgent

    Andrew,
    I believe you can answer this ,i hope i am not trying too much on your patience.Thanks .I am connected to the oracle server.In that i execute a procedure which i believe is executing on the oracle server.i supply arguments to it .The arguement is a file on my local directory .The error code follows:-
    I have problem running a oracle procedure which uses a xml parser built on java libraries.When i executed this procedure the following error came:-
    SQL> execute domsample('\oraclexdk\xdk\demo\plsql\parser','family.xml','error.txt');
    BEGIN domsample('\oraclexdk\xdk\demo\plsql\parser','family.xml','error.txt'); END;

    ORA-06512: at "IWADM.DOMSAMPLE", line 77
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    Do you know something about this .ie. classpath variables or something like that.if you want the domsample arguement syntax for further clarifications ,i am enclosing this in the following lines.The setbasedir(p,dir) prompts for a parser object and a complete directory path.what i give here is the path on my local directory and i think this creates the error.
    How do i rectify this error.is it on my(client) side or the server side.If it on the oracle server side or my side can you tell me what went wrong.The parser and the dom package everything else is working fine.It is really urgent ,andrew.This is holding up all the work.The arguement syntax help says on 'dir' that this is a pointer to external file system .I have a confusion that whether this refers to external file system of the server or the client.if so form the server how to route it to the client directory or should i have a space on the server, upload this file and execute the domsample.sql file.Can you clear this concept for me.
    'dir' - must point to a valid directory on the external file system
    and should be specified as a complete path name
    'inpfile' - must point to the file located under 'dir', containing the
    XML document to be parsed
    'errfile' - must point to a file you wish to use to record errors; this
    file will be created under 'dir'
    I know i might be bugging you ,but your answers are really great.Thanks.

    I seem to have this error with both windows and unix directory space.Please help me with debugging this .I am really struck with it.The error occurs at the same line when executed with the file on the unix server.

    I won't clutter the forum.just to get your attention,i hope you can help me solving this problem,please can you see this thread,because in future i will be using this only to contact you.Thanks for the continued help.The windows space idea was not used.Many configurations had to be changed.Can you note what is peculiar at line 22 ,line 69.line 63 of domsample reads is just an 'end-if';I will expecting your answer as soon as possible.

  • Java API for running entire ".sql" files on a remote DB ( mySQL or Oracle)?

    Hi,
    Would anyone happen to know if there's a java API for executing entire ".sql" files (containing several different SQL commands), on a remote database server ?
    It's enough if the API works with MySQL and/or Oracle.
    Just to demonstrate what i'm looking for:
    Suppose you've created sql file "c:/test.sql" with several script lines:
    -- test.sql:
    insert into TABLE1 values(3,3);
    insert into TABLE1 values(5,5);
    create table TABLE2 (name VARCHER) ENGINE innoDB; -- MYSQL specific
    Then the java API should look something like:
    // Dummy java code:
    String driver="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver";
    String url= "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/myDb";
    SomeAPI.executeScriptFile( "c:/test.sql", driver, url);
    Thanks.

    No such a API, but it's easy to parse all sqls in a file, then run those command:
    For instance:
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.util.Properties;
    /* A demo show how to load some sql statements. */

  • How to get rid of annoying tool tips while editing SQL files

    I'm using Visual Studio 2013 to edit an .SQL file and I have attached the editor to a local SQL Server 2008 R2 database.
    While editing the string that is passed to a sp_executesql procedure it keeps popping up a tool tip saying:
    "Parameter help is not supported for extended stored procedures"
    Generally I don't care about that and it is annoying because it keeps appearing over the top of the text I want to read. Is there any way to stop Visual Studio doing this?

    Hi aptitude,
    Thank you for posting in the MSDN forum.
    >>I'm using Visual Studio 2013 to edit an .SQL file and I have attached the editor to a local SQL Server 2008 R2 database.
    Could you share us more information about this issue? You said that you edit the .sql file, which kind of app did you create which would use the .SQL file? Whether it is related to the SQL Server database project or others?
    If it is related to the SQL Server Database project, please post this issue to the SSDT forum:

    But if it is related to the SQL Server, to really repro this issue, and make sure that whether this warning is related to the SQL scrip or others, maybe you could select a better forum here:

    If I have misunderstood this issue, maybe you could share us a simple sample and the detailed steps in your new reply, so we could really repro this issue in our side.
    In addition, I did some research about the warning message:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms173434.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
    The IntelliSense functionality of the Database Engine Query Editor does not support all Transact-SQL syntax elements. Parameter help does not support the parameters in some objects, such as extended stored procedures. For more information, see
    Transact-SQL Syntax Supported by IntelliSense.
    In SQL Server, it seems that it is related to the IntelliSense, I'm not very sure that whether it is related to the IntelliSense of VS IDE, but generally we could enable or disable IntelliSense under TOOLS->Option->Text Editor in VS
    IDE.
    Maybe you could disable IntelliSense in VS IDE, and then check it again.
    If I misunderstood this issue, please feel free to let me know.

  • Shell script for calling an sql file

    Hello, I would need your help in creating a ksh file. We have two ksh files. One for deletion the eim table and the other one is for running the eim job.
    Ksh file for running the eim job is okay. But the ksh file running the delete sql is not. We were thinking that we may have some sort of mistake in the syntax could have caused the problem we experiencing now. Need your expertise to check it. Please?
    Here’s the syntax we have.
    #!/bin/sh
    sqlplus -s <user>/<pwd>@dbname << EOF
    @<folder-path>/sqlrun.sql
    EXIT
    ENDSQL
    EXIT
    When we run it against putty, nothing seems to happen as in no error message appears at all. It prove that the sql file did not execute in TOAD.
    We tried the other way around, by putting the /dev/nu// as show below.
    sqlplus -s <user>/<password>@DBNAME > /dev/null <<ENDOFSQL
    still nothing happen.

  • How to execute .sql file in Stored Procedure?

    Hi,
    I have an urgent requirement, where i have to execute .sql file form Stored Procedure.
    This .sql file will have set of update statement. I need to pass value to this update statement.
    Kindly please help me.
    Regards,
    Irfan

    This is required as part of Data Migration where  i have to do 100 of table's update. Each time update table will defer, so its better to have in separate script file (.sql). Can u paste some sample/syntax to exceute .sql file from stored procedure. I am new to this PL/SQL.
    How have you determined that it's "better" to have seperate scripts?  I assume you mean the table name will "differ" (and not "defer" - I assume that's just because English isn't your first language? no problem - I think I understand what you're asking).
    So what I think you're asking is that you have dynamic table names but each table needs to be updated in the same way?
    Question: Why do you have tables with different names that all need the same process doing to them?
    Assuming it's a valid requirement (and 99% of the time doing dynamic coding implies it's not).... you could use dynamic code, rather than 'scripts'...
    e.g.
    create procedure update_table(tbl_name varchar2) is
    begin
      execute immediate 'update '||tbl_name||' set lastupdate = null';
    end;
    As you haven't bothered to provide a database version, any example code/data or explanation of what you're actually doing, you're not going to get any detailed answer.  Please do take the time to read the FAQ and post appropriate details so people can help you.

    An execute in SQL*Plus is the start of the sequence
    SQL> BEGIN <command after the execute>; END;
    /Like if you say
    SQL> execute dbms_stats.gather_database_statsIn your case, this leads to a syntax error, because SQL*Plus will try to convert
    SQL> execute immediate 'create table t';into
    SQL> begin;  immediate 'create table t'; end;
    /In short: You can use execute immediate only inside of a PL/SQL Block. Be it anonymous or stored procedure/function.
    It just makes not much sense to put it into an anonymous block, as you could as well say create table t on the SQL*Plus prompt.

  • Question about having a master sql scrpit/file that calls other sql files

    I know that in SQL Plus, the following works:
    master.sql:
    @script1.sql
    @script2.sql
    @scriptn.sql
    My problem is, I'm using the sql maven plugin and the jdbc driver doesn't seem to like the @script.sql syntax. So the question is two-fold. Is it possible to get this master script behavior using the jdbc driver and not SQL Plus. Second, is the @script.sql syntax, specific to SQL Plus?
    Thanks!
    Justin

    The @<<script>> syntax is specific to SQL*Plus. I'm not familiar with the "sql maven plugin", so I have no idea whether it has some analogous syntax for calling scripts in other files or not. The JDBC API works just with SQL statements, not scripts, so whatever application (I'm guessing SQL Maven?) that is using the JDBC driver has to interpret the @<<script>> syntax.

  • Preview of .sql Files.

    Hello.
    On Finder, I can preview all .txt files (a small reproduction of the file's contents). But by default, it is not possible for .sql files. On the preview window, I can only see the file's icon.
    How can I make it possible, since for me, .sql files are just text files, with a different extension (instead of .txt, it has .sql extension).
    Another question: is it possible to change the icon for all files from a specific type (ex. all .sql files)?
    Thanks in advance
    Carlos

    use this link to make quicklook treat .sql files as plain text files
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20071028184428583
    icons for a specific file type are set by the application which is currently the default application for that file type. if you change the default application the icons will all change. you can also change the icon used by the current default application. go to the main Applications folder, locate the application in question, control-click on it and select 'show package contents". then go to Contents->Resources. find the .icns used by the application and replace it by your own .icns file. restart.

  • How can i pass the Input value to the sql file in the korn shell ??

    Hi,
    How can i pass the Input value to the sql file in the korn shell ??
    I have to pass the 4 different values to the sql file and each time i pass the value it has to generate the txt file for that value like wise it has to generate the 4 files at each run.
    can any one help me out.
    Raja

    Can you please more elaberate., perhaps you should more elaberate.
    sqlplus is a program. you start it from the korn shell. when it's finished, processing control returns to the korn shell. the korn shell and sqlplus do not communicate back and forth.
    so "spool the output from .sql file to some txt file from k shell, while passing the input parameters to the sql file from korn shell" makes no sense.

    The trigger is "attached" to the table so when you drop the table the trigger goes as well.

  • Importing and executing a .sql file into  Oracle 10g

    Hi
    I am looking to import and execute a .sql file(create scripts created of a databse designed in MS SQL Server 2005). The file was imported into Oracle APEX 3.10 but we are unable to execute the script. Please suggest alternatives as to how we can import these files.
    Thanks in advance.

    You likely need to migrate the database (objects and data). This is not so easy and you should have a look to migration tools: http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/07-sep/o57sql.html.
