Earlier Logic Pro X Intallers (pre 10.1)
Hi, I have Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and I am about buying Logic Pro X. Where can I find the older installer (eg. 10.0.*) because the latest 10.1 requires OSX 10.9 or newer but I don't want to change the OS of my studio computer. Thanks
the peak level display got an error -0.1db and in some cases -0.2db, when Apple will launch an update for such a serious problem? this can compromise a complete mastering

How do you get rid of 'empty' pre-roll time in logic pro 9?
how do you get rid of the pre-roll time in logic pro 9?
My project's start time is 8-bars before any material, or tempos, or anything...
Can't move the start time back to ")" (zero) STUCK!! at -8
The song now has 20 seconds of dead air time in a pre-roll.
None of these worked or revealed anything...
-tried making a new copy of song
-looked into every track's file information looking for a spurious entry
-tried deleting the time/spaceHi
Check for any Track Automation nodes in the "preroll'.
CCT
Edit
You should note that generally negative (or zero) project start numbers should be avoided at all cost: there are many peculiar behaviour problems associated with them. -
Please help! Logic Pro 9 & Motu 8 pre
I recently upgraded some of my home studio gear, and in that just added a second MOTU 8pre.
Here's my roadblock...
I'd like to run both MOTU 8pres so that I can record 16 tracks simultaneously.
Using the built in CueMix Console I can monitor all 16 tracks.
(I'm using 1st Motu as my main interface with optical outs from the 2nd Motu into the optical inputs of the 1st Motu.)
But once I try to monitor or record channels 9-16 through Logic Pro 9 (even garage band) I get no signal whatsoever.
Maybe I'm missing something, or haven't turned something on. I've checked preferences, etc. with no luck.
Please help! Is what I'm trying to do even compatible between Logic 9 and the MOTU 8 pres??
Thanks in advance,

Lucas, it may not make any difference in this situation but the standard setup for digital devices is to have a single lightpipe/ADAT cable from the digital output of the second MOTU into the Digital in of your 1st, (main) MOTU. The 2nd MOTU will be the digital clock master with the 1st MOTU slaving to the digital clock of the 2nd unit.
That is.. unless you're using a third party digital clock driving both units.
p.s. Trust me on the single lightpipe cable.

I'm using Logic Pro with M audio Firewire 410 and a M57 microphone. Does anyone have suggestions about what pre amps in the lower price range are good. I'm primarily recording oboe and flute. And do I need one and if so, why?

If you are going to make serious records, put your pants on, and go:

Can't open Logic Pro 8 (or earlier) files
I just installed Logic Pro 9 and if I double click on one of my Logic Pro 8 composition projects, it launches Logic Pro 9 but doesn't open the file. Has anyone else had this problem?
(I can open the projects up by launching Logic Pro 9 and selecting File > Open but always found it much quicker and more intuitive to do it the other way.)
Even if I save a piece as a Logic Pro 9 project, double-clicking on the file won't open it... Any ideas?I found a strange thing:
Logic is closed. In Finder double click on logic project file. Logic opens. The project does not appear.
Choose File > New...
Immediately close the New window.
The original file you wanted to open now begins to open in Logic.

Logic pro installations (pre-App Store)
I would like to install Logic Pro on my old (2006) Powerbook Pro however, the disk drives on those machines was notoriously unreliable, so I can't install from the disks (I purchased it as an upgrade from v8, prior to App Store downloads being available).
Can you offer any guidance as to whether the serial number can be recognised by the App Store, and then a copy downloaded. I assume that it's paired with my Apple I.D., but in the App Store, my only option appears to be to repurchase it. This isn't an option for me.
Thanks. No, your serial isn't linked with the copy of Logic that can be obtained from the App Store.. and your Apple ID and Password..
When you install Logic from the boxed set some files are created on your System HD that contain your serial (once you have entered it during the install proceedure)
When you go to update via the newly combined App Store and Software Updater mechanism the update routines check for those files containing the serial and allow you to download any updates if those files exists. No serial codes on your HD? No ability to download or update from the app store app without purchasing the App store version of Logic..
So, you cannot download a fresh copy of Logic from the App store without purchasing it... as doing so uses a different mechanism altogether...
So, how do you install your Logic Studio 2 Upgrade (Logic Pro 9) if your internal DVD has failed...?
Two methods...
Buy an external USB DVD from somewhere like Amazon for $30 and use that to install the Logic Studio 2 Upgrade package.. (It doesn't need the original Logic Studio 1/Logic Pro 8 DVDs.. just the Original LS1 Serial number followed by the LS2 upgrade serial number)
Use a friend's (or any other Mac ) computer to make disk images of your Logic Studio 2 DVDs to an external HD and then install from those images...
Once installed... then you can update using the App Store/Software Update method to the latest version for your PowerPC bearing in mind that Logic Pro 9 is now Intel Only so you can only update to a much older version these days...
It's also worth noting that the version of Logic Pro 9 for sale on the App Store is for Intel Only Macs... so that wouldn't be of any use to you anyhow...
Hope this helps.. -
Sticky proposal: Logic Pro (first draft)
Ok, here's a first draft of the proposed sticky for this forum. After looking at what we had, I decided to basically do it in four parts - introductory stuff (please post version numbers etc), problem solvers, tips, and audio general stuff.
I'm not making this a work of art, but value feedback in order to make this useful before we ask the mods for a sticky. It's not complete, such a task is a much bigger job, but it's a start. What's not there? What's confusing? Is it too much stuff? Too newbie unfriendly?
When we are happy I will probably style/format it a little better as well.
Lemme know - cheers,
This is a compilation of Logic tips, useful threads and information for Logic Pro users, compiled mostly by Eriksimon (thanks!) with additional contributions from Bee Jay and (final forum member list to be completed)
- Getting the best help from the Apple Logic Pro Discussions
This forum is intended to be a user-to-user support form to users of Logic Pro.
Please keep your posts on the topic of Logic Pro, or you risk your post being removed for being off-topic. There are plenty of other general audio and recording forums better suited for asking general audio questions.
Questions about third-party software and hardware are welcome as long as they relate directly to using these products in conjunction with Logic.
This forum is dedicated to the post-Apple versions of Logic, which means questions for Logic Pro 7, Logic Pro 8, and Logic Pro 9 are welcome. However, please include the version of Logic you are using, in order to give useful advice (as things change between versions.) Better still, put your Logic versions and system information in your signature, to save having to ask for it.
If you are a user of Logic Express, you should post in the Logic Express forum, rather than the Logic Pro forum, in order to get advice suited to your particular software version (as some things are different between Logic Express and Logic Pro).
Remember that many questions, especially if you are new to Logic, have been asked multiple times before, so it's good practice to use the Discussions Search feature in the top right of the page to search for previous discussions relating to your issue. You will find a wealth of information. Often you can find a solution to your question without needing to post and have someone type out a response they've already typed out hundreds of times before - or worse yet, have your question ignored.
Please be respectful of the members on the board at all times - we are happy to help people out, but do so in our own free time and don't have a duty to do so.
Posts discussing non-Logic related items, off-topic or controversial subjects, abusive posts and harsh language are not welcome and will likely be removed, as will posts discussing illegal software. Please read the Terms of Use of this board for more info at:
This post is a user-contributed compilation of links to content on this forum, official Apple documentation, and occasionally some other outside content where useful to Logic users. Okay, here I marked some of the links because at the time it was not clear if they adress things that are still actual in L9.
It may be a good idea to name the topics that apply to all Logics' (7, 8 and 9) simply Logic Pro (or leave 'm nameless), and the others after the specific version they apply to. The topics with a (9?) behind it, have still to be confirmed to also apply to L9 (.0.2)

Great Job BJ! -
I'm struggling to install Logic Pro 9 upgrade on Mountain Lion
Way back we bought one of the last pre-Intel G5 in order to do music processing. We also bought Logic Studio v6 or 7. Then we upgraded to Logic Studio 8 and later decided to use a macbook pro instead of the G5. So far so good. We then upgraded to Logic Pro 9 and can run this on Lion on the Macbook Pro.
My partner is now working away and takes his Macbook with him, so we want to set-up Logic 9 on my macbook pro which is running Mountain Lion 10.8.4. Once this is done we will take it off his machine, so not pirating in any way.
I have managed (at great length) to install Logic Studio 8 on my machine using Pacifist, and I can open it and create projects etc... I now want to install Logic Pro 9 on this machine but I get a message saying that a qualifying copy of Logic or MainStage was not found on the disk. To complicate matters, we can't find either the logic pro 9 disk or an image copy, so I downloaded from the following link:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2972851/logic-downloads-fixed.html
which I found in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4948612
I have already spent many many hours fiddling with this, does anyone know how I can get around this problem?Im using LPX and have found it to work well.... and no less stable than LP9 in terms of general stability. There are some bugs but given we are still in the early stages of development, that is not surprising and is no different to how it was with LP8 and 9 in their early days. I should add I haven't come across any "showstopper" bugs that affect my own personalo workflow and method of using Logic... just a few niggles and minor annoyances... that for the most part can be worked around if they haven't already been fixed in the 3 updates that have come out since initial release.
I have had no real issues with importing LP9 projects into LPX other than of course, the lack of 32bit Plugin support in LPX which means LP9 projects that contain 32bit plugins.. will not fully import into LPX. The midi/audio data imports ok.. the 32bit plugins will be missing however... if you don't have equivilant 64bit versions installed. For me, this issue has been very minimal simply because almsot all the plugins i use, have already been updated to 64bit versions over the last few years.
There has also been an issue with certain parameters in the track/region Inspector after import into LPX, containing weird values.. I have only had this issue once out of maybe 40+ LP9 Projects and in this one case i simply reset the values and all was well. Other users have reported different levels of how often this occurs.
Note: Once a project has been opened and then resaved in LPX the LPX version cannot be opened in LP9 as project compatibility is only backwards and not forwards.
If you cannot find your disk and serial..(which you will also need) Contact Apple as they may be able to provide you with replacements disks if they have any left. Bear in mind if, as it appears, your LP9 is an upgrade from LP8 you will also need your previous LP8 serial as well as your upgrade LP9 serial to properly install Logic on a new Mac. Once installed you can and in fact must... then update LP9 to 9.1.8 via software updates in LIon or Mountain LIon... for Logic to under those OS versions. -
My macbook was stolen and I just got a new one. The Time Machine Feature allowed me to put everything onto my new mac and my Logic Pro seems to be installed. When I try to open it, a prompt asks me for a serial number. I have entered the part number from my receipt and every number listed on the barcode sticker on the small box containing my Logic discs, but each gets an invalid number response. I`m out of the U.S. right now and the huge box that the discs and manuals came in is back home. Is that the place I could find the serial number? Is there any way to get the serial number using other identification that I have, my .mac account, purchase receipt, etc?
Assuming you bought it from apple; just call them and explain. I had a similar problem with license keys except that my CDs simply never came in the post even though my imac came pre-installed and I had ordered it as part of a bundle - in my case it was Logic Express. I called Apple, they took some details, and within about 30 minutes I had one of their support guys email me my license key.
I was very impressed, no fuss, nothing. Eventually 3 weeks overdue the CDs turned up - can't necessarily blame apple for that as the rest of what I ordered arrived a week early. -
Logic Pro X Fades Issue?
Trying my first pre-mastering attempt in Logic Pro X. I decided the best way to work was to create "Alternative" mixes for each track on the album totalllying 13, ordering each song as a region. So I went track by track and did my processing and added my in and out fades. Saved each time I switched alternatives to work on the next song.
On return, I opened each alternative and started boucing out. Check the bounced Wavs and three or four tracks had a weird "ghost" of material from other regions in the session. Reopened the Logic session to find that where my fades were, a little nugget of sound was playing from another region in the session.,
Simply altering the fades in any way took care of the problem, but it's not the most elegant solution with an anxious client (eager to hear your awesome masters) next to you and the Discmaker's upload page on the other computer;)
Anyone run into this yet?May I have your attention, Apple Logic Pro X developers/programmers:
Please explain if this is a bug, or if there is a setting I´ve missed somewhere? I have now Googled and checked every possible function in Logic, to no avail. I´ll blow some dust off my Logic 9 box in the meantime.
Note: Logic's Dev are not here.. This is a user community mainly 'staffed' by other users like yourself...
Why doesn't Apple answer the questions that we ask about Logic Pro?
Additional: I cannot reproduce this issue here.. under 10.10.2 and LPX 10.1 I tested on both my testbed Macs and on both of them... Single clicking on the ruler moves the Playhead as normal.
Make sure you are single clicking below the numbers in the ruler....
Failing that.....
Delete both the main Logic prefs and the CS prefs....using these instructions. Please do exactly what they say in the same order.
Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
Quit Logic Pro
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
Restart the computer.
Note. If you cannot find any of these files you didn't follow the instructions exactly as written -
Logic Pro 7 running out of memory!?!
Hi!
I am working on a project were I basically want to cut up every beat of a drum recording on 12 tracks and correct their timing individually (I have my reasons for doing this).
This creates a decent amount of regions and for some reason Logic starts complaining about running short on memory and not having enough memory for the undo history.
It bugs me because I am working on a Dual 2.5GHz G5 with 2 GB of RAM. Activity monitor says I have 480 MB of inactive memory and 1.25GB of free memory. Logic uses 300 MB of real memory and 762 MB of virtual memory. No other apps running.
How can I make Logic use ALL the available memory?
Is there a limit on the amount of memory that Logic can address? What is this limit, and how much memory is reasonably motivated for a PM running Logic?
How about plug ins? Do they have separate memory spaces not limited by Logics potential limits? "Drumkit from ****" can by itself use a couple of Gigs of RAM if available...
Thanks in advance!
/Jont OlofJont Olof Lyttkens, "Logic Pro 7 running out of memory!?!" #5, 03:19pm Sep 7, 2005 CDT
However in the earlier days, running under Mac OS pre 9.x the ability to allocate memory to a specific application could increase the amount for the song event memory
No, it didn't. It increased application memory, but the song event memory remained the same, just as it does now.
I think, though, that with all Logic's new features, there is more actual data in an equivalent song, so the limit may be coming earlier. (I can't be sure of that though)
I know you don't want to, but did you at least try reducing the undo history size (in prefs) ?
Does deleting undo history and then saving help ?
Another thing to consider, although I don't think it generates warnings like you are seeing, is Virtual Memory. If the computer has been up for a long time, running memory-intensive apps, like Logic, then it can get overloaded (too many pageouts) which can slow things down a lot. If you do notice things getting slower, then restarting the computer will flush the Swap File and get things going again. -
Logic Pro "Not Responding" And I have to force quit.
I am having trouble starting up Logic Pro. It keeps opening up to the Template Box and once I make an option every thing stops responding and I am forced to "force quit". I don't understand the issue. Here is the report that keeps coming out. PLEASE HELP ME. THANK YOU.

You are using the latest version of drivers/software for your Maschine, Apogee, ADVC-55 and SL MkII devices
Failing that, Shut down your Mac, unplug all external devices and start up Mac. Test LPX using internal Audio and Musical Typing Keyboard with new project....
If that works normally then...
Delete both Logic's prefs and the CS prefs as detailed here...
Note:If you cannot find either of these files you did not follow all the steps exactly as described!
Now...
Plug in each of your external devices, one at a time.. restarting your Mac each time to ensure which, if any device, is the source of the problem...
Additional: You may have to install and set up your SL MkII again after deleting the CS (Control Surface) prefs
If that doesn't help then as a troubleshooting step....
Please download Etrecheck from here...
http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
..and then launch Logic Pro (But don't load up a project)
Now run Etrecheck and post up the full report here....
Thanks...

Performance issues with Logic Pro 9
Hi,
I'm experiencing quite big performance issues with Logic Pro 9:
bad midi timing and sync, user interface is kinda slowing and less reactive, ...
Mac Pro 2x2.26 Ghz Quad, 4Gb ram, early 2009, shipped with 10.5.6 now upgraded to 10.5.8
Should I upgrade to 10.6.2?
ThanxHi,
I'm using the same machine ...
I never get any performance issues
I bought my mac in March 2009 and I was ben ready to work in less that 3 days without issue...
so more details about your setup are required to answare!
4GB ram???
I suggest to check your ram!!!
Ram must be compatible with Xeon Nehalem Try specification!
if you add 1GB of ram from nor clear manufactor.. i suggest to disconnect the addition 1GB RAM

What is going on ?!?!? I can't start logic pro in 64-bit mode
I have been struggling with this issue for a while now, but I haven't made any progress. I am unable to start Logic Pro 9 in 64-bit mode. And when I say that, I mean that if I select the Logic Pro app in Finder, and say "Get Info," there is no "Start in 32-bit mode" option like all of the tutorials say to do. It used to show up, and I was able to start in 64-bit mode just fine, but suddenly, the option is not there, and the app is starting in 32-bit mode.
My Mac/OSX have been running so well, that I'm not too knowledgeable about where to even start looking for a solution. I am very comfortable with the Terminal, etc, so I can follow directions well, but I don't know where this problem stems from.
The machine is running in 64-bit mode, ie, if I do uname -a, it does return that the system is running in 64-bit mode. Logic runs just fine outside of not starting in 64-bit mode, but I want/need to be taking advantage of all of the RAM I spent so much money on.
I'm not sure what info would be needed, but here goes:
Mac Pro 3,1 (early 2008), 8-core 2.8Ghz.
10GB RAM
4 SATA HDDs
NVidia Geforce 8800 GT 512MB RAM
OS X Mavericks with all current updates
Logic Pro 9.1.x, again, with all updates available.
Steinberg UR22 audio interface (USB)
Also, I'm not sure if it matters, but I also have Windows 7 installed through Bootcamp, and it is running fine, and recognizes 32-bit/64-bit apps just fine.
I hope that's enough for someone to be able to tell me where to start looking. I really don't get it. This was happening when I first installed Mavericks. I ended up doing a fresh install from USB stick, and everything was going fine. I don't think that an update has changed things, as the last time I opened Logic, it did open in 64-bit mode. Suddenly though, that option is unavailable.
Is there a plist entry I can edit that will force it into 64-bit mode?
What part of the OS is in charge of this type of thing?
Any help is greatly appreciated.Could be corrupted preferences.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic.pro.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro.
Be sure and use the ~ character in the path name.
